- HighPoint RocketStor 8631CW gives you 64 GB/S GPU -Bandwidth – No drivers or software required
- Real PCIE Gen5 X16 riding strips that are delivered directly to your GPU via a single copprlink cable
- Fits on double or triple lock GPUs from Nvidia, AMD or Intel – no compatibility tricks required
External GPU (EGPU) Housing are not new, but from HighPoints RocketStor 8631CW the scene has entered with an unusually aggressive pitch.
The company says this externally GPU Setup delivers a direct PCIE Gen5 X16 connection with a full-sized graphic card via its own 1-meter copprlink CDFP cable.
In addition to the bandwidth for Desktop-Class GPUs, this device supports plug-and-play, OSagnostic and does not rely on software or drivers.
A further consideration of the hardware setup
The core of the system is the Rocket 1634D -Host interface card, which uses the PEX 89048 switch from Broadcom to support its Gen5 X16 link, with a transfer speed of up to 64 GB/s.
The card fits in low-profile systems, measuring 68.9 mm x 165 mm and supports a single CDFP channel.
It supports LED indicators for visual feedback on connecting status and secure start -up on both hardware and software content.
Connected to this is the RocketStor 8631C chassis, which uses Asteralabs PCIE 5.0 retimers to maintain signal integrity.
The housing supports one complete, complete, dual or triple-slot GPU of a large, dual or triple supplier, including Nvidia” AMDAnd Intel.
It can handle the current taxes up to 600 W and includes real-time stream monitoring and an advanced dual fan cooling system with programmable smart fan control for thermal problem warnings. There is also a back panel damping button in case the audible reports become too talkative.
The dimensions are 370 mm x 170 mm x 88 mm, making it large enough to house an RTX 5090-class card, but still compact enough not to overwhelm a desk.
This arrangement is aimed at workflows where stability and zeroconfiguration environments are mandatory – think of AI modelt training, 8k Edit or Enterprise-Grade Rendering pipelines.
But in a world where laptops are increasingly equipped with powerful built-in GPUs, this housing feels more like a solution for Edge cases.
A maker looking for the Best laptop for video editing or the Best laptop for photoshop Probably will find many capable systems that do not need such a setup, especially when taking into account portability, price and simplicity are taken into account.
That said, such as integrated GPUs and compact systems improve, the need for such a solution narrower and costs rise considerably.
You need a PCIe slot in your system, a matching full-power GPU and a compelling reason to justify the costs if you can drag the RTX 5090 class electricity without a tower without a tower, this is perhaps the only hardware currently that is up to the task.
The HighPoint RocketStor 8631CW is currently selling HighPoint’s website for $ 1,999.
