Simpliforge and IIT-H collaborate with MES for Indian Army’s largest 3D printed building in MP – Times of India
The building, which will house barracks for jawans with a capacity for 14 jawans, was constructed to showcase efficient housing solutions for troops in remote and challenging terrain.
Co-founder and CEO of Simpliforge Creations, Dhruv Gandhi, said that while the foundation work for the 10-12-foot structure, spread over about 2,500 square feet, was carried out using conventional construction techniques, the 10-foot portion above the ground, with the exception of the beam, was all 3D printed in just a month.
“The foundation work took approximately two weeks, of which one week was for construction and one week for curing. The plating and finishing work took just over two weeks. The 3D printing work was completed within a month,” Gandhi said, noting that the construction was about 20% more expensive than conventional construction.
While the IIT-H team was responsible for the design analysis and vetting the structure, Simpliforge Creations prepared the design and did the construction for the project.
The barracks was inaugurated by Major General KTG Krishnan, General Officer Commanding Shahbaaz Division.
