Siri, powered by Apple Intelligence, could be introduced early next year

Apple is expected to launch a new, smarter Siri powered by Apple Intelligence – its suite of artificial intelligence (AI) features for the iPhone. According to a report, the new Siri could arrive earlier than expected with a version of the iOS 18 update. When it does launch, it is speculated that it will join the Apple Intelligence features scheduled to roll out with the iOS 18.1 update next month, which include writing tools and web page summaries.

Siri with Apple Intelligence feature

Apple previewed its in-development Apple Intelligence features at its Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2024 in June. While some have already been tested in developer and public beta updates, the new Siri remains elusive, despite the Cupertino-based tech giant rolling out its new user interface (UI). But that could soon change, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman.

In his power on newsletterGurman suggested that the arrival of the new Siri could come sooner than previously expected. Apple is expected to roll it out with the iOS 18.3 update, rather than iOS 18.4. Development of that update could wrap up by the end of the year, with a release tipped for January 2025.

However, only some of Siri’s features may be rolled out with iOS 18.3 already. Apple expects some of the features to be available in the iOS 18.4 update, which is scheduled for release sometime in March next year.

Siri Upgrades

According to Apple, one of the most notable additions to Siri is contextual understanding. Apple’s voice assistant will be able to understand natural language and vaguely spoken phrases to find the underlying meaning behind them, using the company’s AI model. It will also integrate with several native Apple apps, and be able to take actions within the apps through verbal prompts.

After the iOS 18 update, Siri also has a new UI. When activated, the screen glows around the edges. In addition, users can now also take advantage of the Type to Siri feature, which accepts text prompts in addition to voice commands.
