Sister and brother commanded warships in the Indian Navy for the first time
A sister-brother duo will simultaneously command several warships under the Western Command for the first time in the Indian Navy. Commander Prerna Deosthalee achieved a historic milestone last year by becoming the first female officer to command a Navy ship and currently commands the fast attack vessel INS Trincat.
Meanwhile her brother Commander Ishan Deosthaleehas been commissioned by INS Vibhutia Veer class missile ship of the Indian Navy.
INS Vibhuti took part in the Steam Past ceremony presented to President Draupadi Murmu along the Goan coastline in the Arabian Sea.
On November 7, President Droupadi Murmu visited INS Vikrant accompanied by Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi and observed an operational demonstration by the Indian Navy.
During her address, President Murmu praised the operational capabilities and strategic influence of the Indian Navy.
“Indian Navy units are deployed for extended periods over vast areas, showcasing their capabilities and strategic influence. Your positive, proactive and quick actions have saved countless lives at sea. It was a special moment for me when the President of Bulgaria called I express my gratitude for rescuing the Bulgarian crew from a hijacked ship earlier this year,” said Murmu.
