'Sitting with people opposing Ram Mandir, CAA': Amit Shah's jibe against Uddhav Thackeray
NEW DELHI: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday accused Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray of joining the Congress party, an organization that Shah said disrespects both. Balasaheb Thackeray And Veer Savarkar.
Shah was speaking at the launch event of BJP’s “Sankalp Patra”, or manifesto, for the times ahead Maharashtra Assembly Elections set on November 20.
“I challenge Uddhav Thackeray to ask Congress leader Rahul Gandhi to say two good words about Veer Savarkar. Can a Congress leader honor Balasaheb Thackeray with a few words? The people of Maharashtra deserve to know about those who dream of an alliance government amid such contradictions,” Shah said.
“I want to tell Uddhav Thackeray that you are working with people who are opposing Ram Mandir, Citizenship (Amendment) Act, Uniform Civil Code, Waqf board amendments and Savarkar’s abuse,” he said.
The opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) (comprising the Shiv Sena (UBT), Congress and Sharad Pawar’s NCP (SP)) has no credibility, the senior BJP leader said.
The Home Minister emphasized that the BJP’s manifesto reflected the true aspirations of the people of Maharashtra.
During the speech, Shah also addressed controversial demands for reservations by minorities. “An Ulemas organization has been demanding reservations for minorities and state Congress president Nana Patole has acknowledged this. Are the people of Maharashtra in favor of giving their reservation rights, meant for the SCs, STs and OBCs, to the Muslims? Our Constitution does not make reservations based on religion. However, Congress promised reservations before coming to power and people should take note of this issue,” he said.
Highlighting the BJP’s track record, Shah pointed out the party’s commitment to delivering on its promises, asserting that the BJP’s resolutions are “etched in stone”. He criticized the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) party, labeling its promises as ideologically superficial and focused on reconciliation.
Shah also targeted Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar and urged him to be accountable for his contributions to Maharashtra during his tenure as a minister in the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government .
At the event to launch the BJP manifesto in Mumbai, Shah was accompanied by prominent leaders including Union Minister Piyush Goyal, Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra Devendra Fadnavis and BJP’s state chief Chandrashekhar Bawankule.
