Skincare fan shares simple trick to always get more product out of serums and creams
A SIMPLE approach to using beauty products ensures one skin care fan gets every last drop out of expensive creams and serums.
He shared his wisdom and proved that ’empty’ bottles can be a goldmine.
Reddit user Stikx_ called his approach a “public announcement.”
“Always break open your bottles when they are ’empty,’” he said.
He added a photo of his moisturizer, which looked almost full when he opened the package.
“This is the amount left in the Cerave retinol bottle when the pump stopped pumping,” he said.
HOW IT WORKS
Cutting open bottles to get the last bit of product out has been a technique for getting the most out of skin care for some time now.
Although its origins are uncertain, many people use this approach during times of economic turmoil, such as depressions or wars.
Nowadays, many skin care enthusiasts are taking up this habit again, wanting to take full advantage of the product’s benefits.
Stikx_ used the Cerave Retinol Resurfacing Serum, which sells for $18.68 on Amazon.
It is a lightweight serum that is suitable for acne-prone skin and gives a smoother complexion.
It also contains retinol, which has some skin care enthusiasts concerned about air exposure.
Still, Stikx_ was surprised when he saw how much serum was left in the bottle after the pump stopped working.
“I just cut it off because I didn’t expect there to be much in it,” he said.
Other Redditors gave their opinions in the comments.
“You know what you should do is send that photo to the company that took it and ask them how they plan to change the packaging so this doesn’t happen again,” one person wrote.
“Any halfway decent company will send you a brand new one.”
“I have makeup spatulas to dig out every last bit of retinol,” added another. “I still have two weeks of it.”
Yet another Redditor said they cut another moisturizer to make it last longer.
“I’ve been doing this forever with my La Roche Posay moisturizer,” they wrote.
“The pump stopped working so I started cutting the bottle open and scooping it into another container and I easily got at least a month’s worth of [or more] leftover moisturizer for my face.”
“I’m using this now and thanks for the reminder,” said another. “I’m going to do exactly this.”
