So cute she wore it twice! Anthony Albanese’s fiancée Jodie Haydon upcycled sparkly 2022 dress to Midwinter Ball amid cost of living crisis

Anthony Albanese’s fiancée Jodie Haydon turned heads on Wednesday night when she turned up at the Midwinter Ball in Canberra in a recycled dress.

The 45-year-old financial services executive and the 61-year-old prime minister arrived just before 7.30pm and looked completely in love as they posed for photos.

Mr Albanese appeared to want to avoid negative attention amid the ongoing cost of living crisis and opted to wear a simple black suit, while Ms Haydon opted for a sparkly dress which she last wore in public in 2022.

Ms Haydon looked sensational once again in the sequined showstopper which she first wore at the 2022 Midwinter Ball.

It came just days after an embarrassing gaffe by the ABC saw Ms Haydon mistaken for Australia’s new Governor-General, Sam Mostyn.

ABC News presenter Gemma Veness was reporting from the swearing-in ceremony taking place in Parliament House on Monday when the mistake occurred.

Ms Haydon walked out of the parliament building that morning with Mr Albanese to greet the waiting media.

But of the footage, Veness told viewers: “We can now see Sam Mostyn arriving in Canberra for the swearing-in ceremony on our screens.”

A moment later, as the duo got closer to the cameras, Veness realized her mistake and corrected herself, saying, “My apologies… this is indeed Jodie Haydon.”

Later in the Senate, Ms. Mostyn was seen smiling as she entered just as the swearing-in ceremony was about to begin.

Last week, the government passed a law that gives the governor general an annual salary of $709,000, $200,000 more than her predecessor.

The reason for the $200,000 increase follows the constitutional requirement that the Governor General’s salary cannot be changed during the five-year term and is set in proportion to the salary of the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court.

The pay rise sparked outrage from the coalition and the Greens, who were out of touch with reality during the cost of living crisis, but it was eventually passed by parliament without too many problems.

On Monday, politicians from both major parties gathered in the Senate to watch Mrs Mostyn, a well-known republican, pledge “to be faithful and bear true allegiance to His Majesty, King Charles III, and his heirs and successors according to law”.
