When will I get my Social Security check?

Would you like to know on which day of the month you will receive your check? Here is the Social Security and SSDI payment schedule for December.

Social security payment schedule December 2024

You received social security before May 1997 December 3
If your birthday falls between the 1st and the 10th of a given month December 11
If your birthday falls between the 11th and the 20th of a given month December 18
If your birthday falls between the 21st and the 31st of a given month December 24

How is my social security payment date determined?

Social Security payments are typically paid out starting on the second Wednesday of the month. The remaining two payments are paid on the following two Wednesdays of the month. The week you receive your payment depends on your date of birth. There is one major exception, which I will discuss below.

Date of birth between:Social security check date
1st and 10th 2nd Wednesday of the month
11th and 20th 3rd Wednesday of the month
21st and 31st 4th Wednesday of the month

Will I receive my other government benefits on the same day?

If you received Social Security benefits before May 1997, or receive both Social Security and Supplemental Security income, your payment schedule will not be determined based on your date of birth. Instead, payments are made on the same date every month, with a few exceptions that I’ll explain below.

Social Security payments are sent on the 3rd of every month, while SSI payments are sent on the 1st of every month. These dates can sometimes change if the 1st or 3rd of the month falls on a weekend or holiday. For example, March 3 fell on a weekend, so Social Security recipients received their March payments two days earlier, on March 1. The same will happen in the month of November.

The only benefits paid on the same schedule are Social Security and Disability Insurance.

Have you not received your Social Security check? Start here.

If your check doesn’t show up when it’s supposed to or at all, the Social Security Administration suggests waiting an additional three mailing days before reaching out. Then you can call the national toll-free number: 1-800-772-1213.

The SSA notes that “wait times to speak with a representative are typically shorter in the morning, later in the week, and later in the month.”

If you are having trouble reaching the SSA via the national number, you can use their number office finder to find a local office to reach.
