Some Ubisoft games may become unresponsive after the latest Windows 11 update
The latest Windows 11 update will cause certain Ubisoft games to stop working, Microsoft has confirmed. Installing Windows 11, version 24H2, causes problems with some Assassin’s Creed titles, Star Wars Outlaws and Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, the company said. Ubisoft and Microsoft are working on a fix for the issue, and the latter has held up the Windows update on devices with the affected games installed.
Windows 11 update causes problems for Ubisoft games
Microsoft confirmed the problem on a support website after about known issues and notifications for Windows 11, version 24H2. The Windows 11 2024 update causes some Ubisoft games to become unresponsive.
“After installing Windows 11, version 24H2, you may encounter problems with some Ubisoft games. These games may become unresponsive when launching, loading, or during active gameplay. In some cases, users may see a black screen,” Microsoft said in the post.
The issue affects Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, Assassin’s Creed Origins, Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, Star Wars Outlaws, and Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora.
To prevent Windows users from facing this problem, Microsoft has applied a compatibility block on devices with these games installed. “These devices will not be offered to install Windows 11, version 24H2 through the Windows Update release channel,” the company said.
Microsoft also warned users not to attempt to manually update to version 24H2 using the Windows 11 installation assistant or media creation tool until the issue is resolved. In the meantime, the company is working with Ubisoft on a solution.
Ubisoft has released a workaround for Star Wars Outlaws as part of a update to prevent the game from being unresponsive. However, Microsoft said users may still experience performance issues with the game.
Windows 11 users who have updated and are facing the issue with Ubisoft games can use Task Manager to terminate the gaming application if it becomes unresponsive.
Windows 11, version 24H2, the third major update for Windows 11, was rolled out in phases in October.
