Sony plans to release ‘big’ single-player games every year, with Ghost of Yōtei and Death Stranding 2 due in 2025
- Sony appears to be doubling down on its efforts in single-player gaming output
- The company claims it will release “major” single-player games every year
- Ghost of Yōtei and Death Stranding 2 are coming in 2025
Sony has promised to continue its single-player game production on PS5 and – apparently – future PlayStation hardware.
As reported by IGNSony Finance and IR head Sadahiko Hayakawa expressed a desire to continue the release of single-player games on PlayStation consoles during an investor call.
According to Hayakawa, Sony plans to “release major single-player game titles every year starting next fiscal year.” To support this, Hayakawa highlighted Sucker Punch’s Spirit of Yōtei and Kojima Productions’ Death Stranding 2: On the beach – both of which will be released exclusively for PS5 in 2025. We can’t help mentioning it either Astrobot, which launched this year to near-universal acclaim.
As for what we can expect in 2026 and beyond, that’s still a bit up in the air. We know Insomniac Games is working hard on it Wolverine title, plus PlayStation Studios has no shortage of development houses, including Guerrilla, Naughty Dog, Bluepoint Games, Bend Studio, Housemarque and Bungie to name a few.
It’s a bit of a relief to hear that Sony plans to keep up with single-player game releases, especially after its form on live service titles. While Hell divers 2 continues to enjoy a healthy player base, the same cannot be said for the canceled ones The last of us multiplayer game or Treaty – which closed abruptly two weeks after launch. That said, Bungie’s Marathon and the Horizon multiplayer titles are also still in development, so expect more attempts at the live service model in the future.
It’s also highly likely that future first-party PS5 games will receive PS5 Pro enhancement features, such as better framerates at higher resolutions and support for PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR), which dynamically adjusts image quality during gameplay for the smoothest experience .
