Sony rolls out new PS5 beta featuring 3D audio profiles, adaptive charging and more
Sony announced a new update for PS5 beta participants on Wednesday. The PS5 beta brings support for personalized 3D audio profiles for headphones and earbuds, the ability to limit Remote Play access for individual users, and adaptive charging for DualSense controllers for beta users on the latest PS5 slim model. The beta rolled out to eligible users on Thursday, with a worldwide release planned for later.
The PlayStation parent said that users selected to participate in the beta will receive an email invitation on Thursday when the update becomes available for download. The beta update will be available to invited participants in the US, Canada, Japan, the UK, Germany and France. While Sony plans to release the update globally in the coming months, it said that some features of the beta update may be subject to change or may not even make it into the final version.
The new beta will allow eligible users on all PS5 models to create a custom 3D audio profile. The PS5 ships with support for 3D audio, and the new update will allow players to create personalized audio profiles for supported headphones and earbuds, such as Sony’s wireless Pulse Elite headset or the wireless Pulse Explore earbuds. The feature will allow users to run through various sound quality tests to determine a profile that suits them best.
New PS5 Beta Features
“For example, your personalized 3D audio profile can allow you to sense the positions of characters and objects in a game world better than before, making the experience more immersive,” the PlayStation Blog Post announcement of the update. The 3D Audio Profile feature can be found in the Sound section of the PS5 settings.
Beta users can now also adjust Remote Play settings for individual users. The update allows PS5 users to disable Remote Play access for other users who are signed in to their PSN accounts on their console. To access this feature, PS5 users can visit Institutions > System > Remote play > Enable Remote Playand select the user you want to grant access to Remote Play.
Finally, the beta also adds adaptive charging for the DualSense wireless controller, DualSense Edge wireless controller, PlayStation VR2 Sense controllers, and Access controller for PS5 slim users. The feature works when the PS5 is in sleep mode, with the controller connected to the console via a USB Type-C cable. According to Sony, adaptive charging saves energy by adjusting how long the controller charges based on its battery level.
This feature can be accessed by going to Institutions > System > Energy saving > Available functions in sleep mode and select Provide power to USB ports > Custom.
