Soren's plea for exemption from personal appearance was rejected in the ED case
RANCHI: A special one MP/MLA court in Ranchi rejected Jharkhand CM-elect Hemant Soren’s petition seeking exemption from personal appearance in a case filed by ED for alleged non-compliance of the agency’s summons. Soren’s lawyer Pradeep Chandra said, “The court has fixed the next hearing date of December 4 for the petitioner’s appearance. The court had reserved its order on Soren’s petition after hearing both sides.”
ED filed a petition before the Chief Judiciary on February 19, alleging that Soren had failed to appear in eight of the 10 summonses it had issued. The summons relates to the alleged illegal occupation of 8.86 hectares in Bargai circle of Ranchi. On March 4, the court took notice of ‘non-attendance in obedience to order of public servant’ under Section 174 of the IPC.
Soren then moved HC against the cognizance of the CJM court in the case.
