In a remarkable comeback creepy to his Kentucky Derby Victory, sovereignty caught up with journalism to win the 157th running of the Belmont Stakes on Sunday in Saratoga.
The 5-2 second favorite won in 2 minutes, 0.69 seconds, with the winner journalism of Preakness Stakes defeated with three lengths.
Just like last year, it contained the winners of Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes. In contrast to last year and for the first time since 2018, one of those two won two of the three legs of the Triple Crown.
Sovereignty and Jockey Junior Alvarado crosses the field of eight on a fast Saratoga track after rain shower and dried up early in the afternoon before the time after the time.
The three -year -old was Racing for the first time since that historic first Saturday in May. Owners and trainer Bill Mott decided not to enter sovereignty in preaksness due to the short, two -week turning, so that she denied the chance of a triple crown.
The winners take the prize of $ 1.2 million followed by the Journalism’s ownership group at $ 360,000. The third place team and the owners of Rodriguez with four place take home $ 200,000 and $ 100,000 respectively.

For Alvarado, the victory comes after he had sustained a fine of $ 62,000 for whipping sovereignty too often on the way to the victory of Kentucky Derby.
There is a limit of six strikes that is applied on the race – a number that is already considered excessive by racing areas – and Alvarado was eventually suspended for a few races in Kentucky last month.
The Triple Crown has not been won since 2018, when Justify of Bob Baffert won the 105th Belmont Stakes to secure the third jewel.
Journalism was the only horse that ran the legs in all three and won the preakness.
“I think they are three really good horses,” said Sovereiny trainer Bill Mott. “I am happy (sovereignty) was able to come back and have a race like he did in the derby.”
It was the second victory of Belmont for Mott. He spends most of his summer with his horses in Saratoga, so winning the Belmont in Saratoga was extra special.
“This is at home,” said Mott. “It is the race we were for after the derby, and luckily it worked very well … The horse was good. Junior drove him well. ‘
It was the second Belmont in Saratoga, where renovations were made to his usual house in Belmont Park on Long Island.
