A popular island in Spain Has introduced a new ‘pay and display’ system for tanning beds on the most busy beaches.
Tourists who go to Gran Canaria must now use the system if they want to rent Sun Loungers or Parasols on El Perchel, Puerto Rico or Playa de Mogán and only have cash.
The service was launched last Friday and works as a parking meter, where visitors have to use the machine, select the item they want to use and pay.
The machine will then print a ticket that the customer must keep while using his sunbed and umbrella.
If a beach visitor has a bank card, instead of cash, they do not have to use the pay-and-display service.
Instead, they can still go to the servants and use one of their card machines to pay for their beach accessories.
Willy García, from the Mogan city council, told Canarian Weekly: ‘Until now, payment is only available per card due to security problems.
‘However, many beachgoers have asked to pay cash.
