Sports icon Dawn Fraser reveals the painful amount of weight she has lost – and her hair -raising moment after horrorfall: “I didn’t want to die that way”

Aussie Sporting Icon Dawn Fraser has revealed that she lost 22 kg after a fall in her driveway in December last year – and that she could have died after the subsequent operation.
Fraser, 87, is a national treasure after winning Olympic gold in the 100m freestyle on three consecutive summer games, between 1956 and 1964.
“The pain was unbearable,” she said News Corp When thinking about the serious fall in her Noosa house QueenslandSunshine Coast in December last year.
“I had never felt so pain. I never fell a bit or broken in my life and it was a shock for me. ‘
And the cause of autumn? Fraser tried to open a case of soft drinks when they Slipped on a small ledge and fell on hard concrete.
Fraser’s hospital X -rays were grim – they unveiled a broken hip, four cracked ribs and potential internal bleeding.

Given her age, the anesthesiologist then warned ‘Dawny’, she cannot survive the operation.
“When the anesthesiologist came in and said I could die, it was the frightening part,” Fraser recalled.
“I didn’t want to die that way, so that set up my will to get through and get out.”
Fortunately everything went according to plan – only for Fraser and then tolerate a heartbeat weeks later.
Now equipped with a pacemaker, the heart of Fraser is checked 24 hours a day.
Recognizing that she has to delay has been a fight.
She was in antidepressants, but an old friend – swimming – has helped to keep phrasal strong.

Fraser also admitted that the recent setbacks have resulted in one of the most difficult periods of her life.
“This has definitely been the biggest challenge,” she said. ‘It’s not something I thought I should be confronted (ever).
“But now it’s there for me. Winning the gold medals was much easier. I feel so happy that I survived. ‘
In terms of attending the 2032 Olympic Games in Brisbane, it is still to be seen whether Fraser is the swimming pool.
She turns 95 – but you never write off a champion.
