Spotify is raising the prices of its premium subscriptions for users in this country
Spotify – the Swedish audio streaming platform – has announced a price increase for all of its premium subscriptions in the US. With this move, the company aims to “provide the best experience for users,” according to the company. Spotify Premium subscribers in the US will soon receive an email with information about the price increase and what will happen to their existing subscription. The same email will also contain instructions on how to cancel your Spotify Premium subscription, for those who no longer wish to remain subscribed.
Spotify Premium prices increased
In a blog afterSpotify announced that new users can now subscribe to the Individual plan for $11.99 per month, down from $10.99. On the other hand, the Duo plan sees a $2 price increase and now costs $16.99. The Spotify Premium Family plan, previously listed at $16.99, now costs $19.99.
The price of the Student subscription will not change, however, and will remain available for $5.99 per month, the audio streaming platform announced on Monday.
This is the second time in 12 months that Spotify has increased its price. The first increase came in July 2023 for all Premium plans, including a $1 increase for the Individual plan.
Explaining the subscription price increase, Spotify said: “Spotify is where users discover and enjoy music, podcasts, and audiobooks. To continue investing and innovating in our product features and providing the best experience for users, we occasionally update our prices. Over the next month, subscribers in the US will receive an email explaining what this update means for their subscription.”
For people currently on the Spotify Premium trial, the company has announced that it will initially offer a monthly subscription with current prices. After that, the prices will be revised in line with the increase.
More expensive than Apple Music
This price increase places Spotify Premium above Apple Music in terms of price. The Apple Music Student plan is priced similarly to the plan Spotify offers, costing $5.99 per month. However, the Individual plan now costs $1 less, at $10.99 per month.
The biggest difference is the Family plan, which costs $16.99, $3 less than Spotify Premium’s family plan. Additionally, Apple Music also offers a cheaper $4.99 Voice plan, which gives users access to the Apple Music library via Siri.
