SSDI September 2024: the final round of checks is underway

The latest round of Social Security Disability Insurance checks will be going out in a few days. When you get your check depends on a few factors, such as what day of the month you were born, how long you’ve been receiving benefits, or whether you’re receiving multiple Social Security payments. If you’re not sure when to expect your check, we’ll explain all the details.

Through SSDI, the Social Security Administration sends monthly payments to people with disabilities that stop or limit their ability to work. Read on for the September 2024 payment schedule and how your payment date is determined.

Payment schedule if you have had SSDI since May 1997 or earlier

If you began receiving SSDI before May 1997, you would typically receive your payment on the third day of each month. Note that this is not always the case, such as when the third day falls on a weekend or holiday. This past March was such a month, and SSDI recipients received their payments two days early, on the first day of the month.

For all others, payments depend on date of birth

If you began receiving SSDI after May 1997, your payment date is determined by the day of the month you were born. Payments are typically issued on the second, third, and fourth Wednesdays of the month. The Wednesday on which you receive your check is broken down as follows:

When you receive your SSDI payment for the month of September

When should your SSDI payment arrive this month:

If you received a benefit from the Social Insurance Bank before May 1997 September 3
If your birthday falls between day 1 and 10 of the month September 11
If your birthday falls between day 11 and 20 of the month September 18
If your birthday falls between day 21 and 31 of the month September 25
