SSI Beneficiaries Will Get Two Payments in August. Here’s Why
Your Supplemental Security Income payment has been on its usual monthly payment schedule, but for August and September, it’s on a different schedule. We’ll explain why below. And if you didn’t know, you may be getting an increase in the amount of your checks later this year.
SSI benefits are administered by the Social Security Administration and go to eligible recipients with limited income and resources, including those who are blind, 65 or older, or have a qualifying disability. Children who are blind or have a disability can also receive SSI.

When will I receive my SSI money each month?
Below you can read when you can expect your SSI payments via direct debit each month up to and including 2024.
- Monday July 1st
- Thursday August 1st
- Friday August 30 (before September)
- Tuesday, October 1
- Friday November 1st
- Friday November 29 (before December)
Why am I not receiving SSI benefits?
The Social Security Administration typically sends SSI checks on the first of each month. There are a few exceptions to the payment schedule.
1. If the first of the month falls on a holiday.
2. If the first of the month falls on a weekend.
Because August 1st falls on a Tuesday this year, your check will be sent out on schedule. However, September 1st falls on a Sunday, so SSI recipients will receive their payments for that month on August 30th. This also happens in November.
If I receive other social security benefits, will I also receive them sooner?
No. If you receive other Social Security benefits, you will still receive them on the normally scheduled day, since those payments fall on Wednesdays. This is when the August payments come in.
August 2: Social security benefits for people who received social security since May 1997.
August 14: Benefits from the Social Insurance Bank for people with a birthday between the first and the tenth of a given month.
August 21: Benefits from the Social Insurance Bank for people with a birthday between the 11th and the 20th of a given month.
August 28: Benefits from the Social Insurance Bank for people with a birthday between the 21st and 31st of a given month.
