Stacey Solomon Spices Up Her Boring Halloween Pumpkin With Fake Tattoos
CARVING Halloween pumpkins takes time and skill.
And as children come up with increasingly difficult designs, it can be difficult to meet their expectations.
But Stacey Solomon has shared a genius trick that will transform any pumpkin. All you need is a few fake tattoos.
The mother of five took her Instagram stories to post a video explaining her idea, as she began: “I tried that whole trick of making flowers on a pumpkin for Halloween with tissue paper, but it’s such a mess and takes forever.
“I want to try these temporary tattoos.”
She insisted she had “no special tricks” for applying the tattoos and that she “literally applied it to the pumpkin just like I would my kids, with a wet towel.”
Stacey demonstrated how she chose which tattoo she wanted, then peeled off the plastic, set it in place and applied pressure to the design with a wet towel.
She was then able to peel off the paper backing, leaving the flower stuck to the pumpkin.
“I can’t handle it!” she cried.
“Tell me this isn’t the best thing you’ve ever seen.
“This is a hundred times easier than the napkin trick!”
She completed the design by coloring the stem of the pumpkin with a gold marker.
“You know what?” she said.
“I’m so happy!
“I really doubted myself for a moment.
“I thought, temporary tattoos don’t stay on a pumpkin, but they do!”
Stacey added that she has now discovered that the idea works, and is therefore going to host a Halloween decoration night with her girlfriends.
“I think this would be a really good idea!” she said.
Fabulous’ Commissioning Editor Martha Cliff Weighs in on Spooky Season
While some may be waiting for Mariah Carey to slowly thaw, I couldn’t care less that Christmas is less than 100 days away.
Have we all forgotten that there are only 50 more nights of sleep until the most beautiful holiday of the year?
I have long preferred Halloween to Christmas and spend most of the year mourning the loss of the spooky season.
Not that I don’t find ways to incorporate it into my year.
In April I marked the halfway point of the best day of the year with a ‘half-o-ween’ picnic in a cemetery (where else?). In July I had to satisfy my need again and organised a ‘Summerween’ barbecue complete with watermelon carving and Piña Ghoul-adas.
Christmas fanatics often hate it when I turn them down during the Christmas season, but for me, December is mainly a time of stress and overspending.
I don’t know about you, but for me it’s not a fun idea to rack my brain for better and bigger gift ideas and spend four times as much time and money at the grocery store.
There is no expectation to spend money on Halloween. Homemade costumes are often much better than store-bought ones, and when it comes to decorations, what could be better than a carved pumpkin that only costs a few cents to make?
In January, the children return to school and brag about what Santa brought them this year, hoping to outdo each other. But on November 1st, it’s a different story.
Trick or treating is completely fair. Unless you bribe the neighbors, all the kids get the same, and for free, so you have no right to brag on the playground.
I especially love the chaos of curation when it comes to Halloween. There’s no obligation to strive for perfection, in fact the rule is the crazier the better. It’s all the nostalgia of Christmas, but without the pressure.
So spare me the Christmas spirit, I’d rather choose a full-fledged spirit.
She also wrote over a photo of the finished pumpkin: “I’m going to make this craft for our Halloween girls night this year.
“I always invite the girls over for Halloween night and we make something.
“How cute! All I need now is a pack of cheap temporary tattoos, some pumpkins, and a gold marker!”
Stacey used beautiful flower tattoos for her design, but of course you can also choose a fake tattoo yourself.
That means the possibilities for decorating your pumpkin this year are literally endless.
It’s also less messy and easier to get the kids involved without having to worry about them using sharp objects.
