The college student was left with the terrifying reaction after hyaluronidase — usually used to dissolve old fillers — was injected into her lip earlier this month
Isis had to have her filler dissolve after one side of her lip was fuller than the other following a recent plumping appointment.
She told local media: “First we tried to shape it, because hyaluronic acid can be formed in the first days, but there was an excessive build-up of the product and it didn’t work.
“We also tried punching to squeeze it out, but we couldn’t. The last time I went, we applied hyaluronidase, which I later learned has a very strong allergic potential.’

She had no idea she was going to have an extreme allergic reaction to the enzyme that made her lip so swollen it poked out
Isis said her face started to swell uncontrollably as soon as she got the enzyme, including her eyes and neck
She said she was very scared because the swelling happened very quickly and she felt a lot of pain
She was rushed to the hospital where they gave me adrenaline, steroids, anti-allergic drugs and the swelling started to calm down after a while
Isis said her face started to swell uncontrollably as soon as she was given the enzyme.
She told local media: “Within an hour everything was already very swollen. I rushed to the hospital, they gave me adrenaline, steroids, anti-allergic drugs and there was time for everything to calm down.’
She added: “I was very scared because it happened very quickly. And I felt a lot of pain. My mouth hurt a lot, I couldn’t see because my eye was closed a lot.
“I kept thinking I was going to have an aftereffect, that my face wouldn’t go back to normal.

Isis was worried the swelling would never go down, but thankfully her face was back to normal four days later
Fortunately, the students’ lips and faces are now back to normal, but a dermatologist said she could have died
‘I was very scared and thought ‘my God, what have I done?’ and very afraid that something worse will happen.’
Isis revealed that it took four days for her face to return to normal. She says she has no plans to have any more cosmetic procedures done anytime soon.
She explained that she decided to post images of her accident on social media to warn others about the potential risks of such procedures, but had no idea it would go viral.
She said: ‘I didn’t expect it to have such an impact. I posted it to warn people because it was very dangerous and I hadn’t seen anything about it.”
Dermatologist Camila Novak – who was not involved in the procedure – told local media that if Isis had not sought help immediately, she could have died.
She said: ‘A significant part of the population can suffer from swelling of the mucous membranes, of the lips, of the eyes, it can cause edema of the glottis, breathing narrowly, it can cause allergies throughout the body.’
WHAT IS HYALURONIDASE
Hyaluronidase is an enzyme that breaks down a substance in the body called hyaluronic acid.
Hyaluronic acid is found throughout the body in connective tissue, skin, and fluids in the joints and in the eye.
In medicine, hyaluronidase is made in the lab and given by injection under the skin along with other drugs to treat certain conditions.
Using hyaluronidase to break down hyaluronic acid helps thin the fluids and connective tissue so that the drugs can get into the tissues more easily.
