Stunned airline passengers shocked by clever Specsavers ad at Sydney airport

Australians are praising Specsavers for a clever advert that tricked airline passengers into thinking they had boarded a plane to the wrong city.

Currently, a giant LED screen at Sydney Airport’s arrivals hall displays the words ‘Welcome to Melbourne’ on a green background.

In smaller text below, the The company’s popular slogan, ‘Should have gone to Specsavers’, reassures travellers that they are in the right city.

The hilarious ad was cheered on social media, with people wondering if a similar ad had already been launched in other cities.

“When I fly and see this I always have to laugh,” one person wrote.

“That’s hilarious. I wonder what they have in other cities like Brisbane or Adelaide,” someone else wrote.

A third shared: ‘Earlier this week there was a ‘Welcome to Adelaide’ billboard on the roadside from Perth Airport’.

Others said the ad was the last thing they wanted to see after a long flight.

‘Wow. Flying to Sydney for the first time tomorrow. I’m glad I saw this. I could have had a heart attack,’ said another.

Others said people would quickly realise they were in Sydney when they got into a taxi or found out how much public transport cost.

“Don’t worry, you know you’re at the right airport when you can take the train straight from the terminal for an exorbitant fee,” said one.

Australians confirm that similar advertisements are also appearing at other Australian airports.

A traveler recently saw the same ad on a baggage carousel in Melbourne, reading “Welcome to Sydney.”

The ad was also praised after he shared a photo online.

‘Look, that’s quite funny. Well played Specsavers,’ he wrote.

“I love clever advertising, this is gold,” wrote someone else.
