Stylist warns of reason why you shouldn’t wash your hair on the same day as a flight
FLYING can be stressful, but that doesn’t mean the health of your hair has to take a back seat as you navigate the friendly skies.
A celebrity hairstylist shared his tips for low-maintenance hair care you can use on the go.
Rossano Ferretti explained that maintaining a good hair care routine while traveling is important, but it doesn’t have to be difficult.
“A good hair care routine before, during and after the flight is essential to maintain healthy hair,” he said.
“There’s been a huge increase in skincare routines during flights, but people often forget about their hair.
“The plane environment can be extremely drying to your locks, especially if your hair is already prone to dehydration – but there is a risk of dehydration. [are] a few steps you can take to keep your hair healthy while flying.”
To keep your hair hydrated, he recommends nourishing the strands from within.
“The air on a plane is extremely dry, which can lead to dry hair, so hydration is essential,” says Ferretti.
“Make sure you drink plenty of water in the days leading up to your flight to keep your hair well hydrated.”
Before a flight, he recommends adding a light moisturizer to your strands, such as Vivace Leave-In Conditioner Spray.

Others who need it can also opt for an intensive care treatment for an extra protective layer.
“Look for products with natural oils and proteins to help lock in hydration,” he advised.
One mistake many people make, Ferretti adds, is washing their hair on retirement day.
“Avoid washing your hair on the day of your flight. Washing your hair daily will strip the scalp of its natural oils, which are necessary to ensure a healthy scalp and strong hair with a natural shine,” he said.
“You can freshen up your hair between styles while cleansing and nourishing your scalp at the same time.
“If you want to freshen up your hair during the flight, use a dry shampoo. Our Vivace Dry Shampoo Cream is formulated with over 90% natural, vegan and organic certified ingredients.
“The ingredients leave no powder or scum residue and absorb excess oil and sweat. They cleanse and nourish the hair and add volume for a ‘just washed’ result.”
Styling measures, such as avoiding heat, wearing protective styles, and wearing silk accessories, can also make a big difference in the health of your locks.
“Tight hair can damage certain hair types. A soft, messy braid is a great way to keep your hair under control,” he said.
“These styles minimize exposure to the dry air and reduce the risk of tangling and breakage. Plus, they can be a stylish way to get to your destination.
“Silk is much gentler on your hair and reduces friction, which can help prevent hair breakage and frizz,” he added.
“A silk scarf or pillowcase is a great travel accessory to keep your hair sleek.”
Aftercare and light attention can give dehydrated hair the moisture it needs again.
“Rinse with cold water to close the cuticle and seal in moisture. Apply a nourishing hair mask or oil to replenish any lost moisture; this will help restore your hair’s natural balance and shine,” he said.
“With a little preparation and the right products, you can ensure your hair looks and feels its best, no matter where you travel.”
