‘Sufficient material not registered’: SC upholds decision, rejects NEET-UG 2024 re-exam | India News – Times of India
“There is no error visible at first glance. No case for review under Order XLVII Rule 1 of the Supreme Court Rules 2013 has been identified. The review petition is therefore dismissed,” the court, consisting of, said Chief Justice DY Chandrachud and Justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Misra, according to an order dated October 22, which was recently made available.
The review petition was filed by Kajal Kumari.
The top court upheld its August 2 position, saying a reexamination was not warranted due to insufficient evidence of systemic problems affecting the integrity of the exam.
The court said: “…there is not currently sufficient material on record to indicate a systemic leak or systemic malpractice of other forms. The material on record does not currently substantiate the claim that there is widespread malpractice, affecting the integrity of the compromised the exam. On the contrary, a review of the data shows that there are no anomalies that indicate systematic cheating.”
While upholding the validity of the exam, the court raised concerns over the organization of NEET-UG 2024 by the National Testing Agency (NTA). It emphasized the responsibility of the NTA in conducting such crucial exams and warned against missteps.
The apex court expanded the scope of a seven-member committee, headed by former Isro chief K Radhakrishnan, to review the functioning of the NTA and recommend exam reforms. Over 23 lakh students appeared in the NEET-UG 2024 exam held on May 5 for admission to medical courses including MBBS, BDS and AYUSH.
