Super Monkey Ball Banana Rumble announces brand new content later this year with its DLC roadmap
Good news, monkeyballers, because Sega has announced that Super Monkey Ball Banana Rumble will receive even more downloadable content and free updates after the current Season Pass expires.
The news was confirmed via the officially Super monkey ball X / Twitter accountwho posted an image announcing upcoming season pass content and what players can expect later this year. It also confirmed that a new, free multiplayer stage is now available, joining Tails, Knuckles, and Amy as playable characters via the season pass.
Then, in September, a new multiplayer mode will be released as part of a free update. It will be accompanied by season pass content in two new playable characters: Crazy Taxis Axel and Jet Set Radios Beat. That’s in addition to a Sega-themed costume pack that lets you dress up your monkeys as Akira (Virtua Fighter), Gilius Thunderhead (Golden axe), Nights (Nights in dreams), Goro Majima (Yakuza / Like a Dragon) and Shadow the Hedgehog.
Finally, the post gives a sneak peek at content that hasn’t been fully announced yet. In “late 2024,” Super Monkey Ball Banana Rumble is getting new multiplayer levels and modes, and again these will be free additions. The most notable one, however, is the announcement of additional characters coming to the game.
Sega is keeping who these characters are—and how many there will be—under wraps for now. But it’s possible that a second season pass is on the way, given the surprising popularity of the Nintendo Switch exclusive. If I were in charge, I’d continue to dig into that Dreamcast era by bringing Ulala from Space Channel 5 there. Or, go completely crazy and take the Daytona USA Hornet car out of retirement.
