Rumors are swirling about the owner behind one of Australia’s original Instagram watchdog accounts, Celeb Spellcheck.

The infamous ‘snark’ account, run by an anonymous user believed to be a 20-something Melbourne PR executive, corrects the bad spelling of influencers and reality stars and often spreads salacious gossip.

Now a bizarre and false new conspiracy is circulating, claiming the account is owned and operated by country singer Keith Urban.

The rumors started after fellow snark account Aussie Influencer Opinions responded to a fan in a Q&A that they believe Nicole Kidman’s husband “100 percent” controls the Instagram page.

Several followers reacted with shock and surprise to the Aussie Influencer opinions.

Rumors are swirling about the owner behind one of Australia’s original Instagram watchdog accounts, Celeb Spellcheck. Now a bizarre and false new conspiracy is circulating, claiming the account is owned and operated by country singer Keith Urban.

“WTF mind blowing,” one user wrote, while others replied, “Wait what?”

The account then shared on their story that “Keith Urban celeb spellcheck” is the second option that appears when you simply search the name “Keith” on TikTok.

Celeb Spellcheck has built a huge following in recent years for calling out notable Australian influencers, celebrities and reality stars.

More recently, the account simply posts nostalgic memories of pop culture, fashion trends, and celebrity romances from the 2000s and 2010s.

But in the past, the admin has shared scandalous moments from influencers, including a video of former Bachelor star Laurina Fleure snorting a white substance off a countertop during a party.

They have also accused model Steph Claire Smith of having a breast augmentation and questioned mommy blogger Sophie Cachia’s moves during Melbourne’s COVID-19 lockdown.

As a result of its content, several influencers and reality stars have publicly condemned the account, accusing it of ‘bullying’.

However, a leading Sydney lawyer has claimed it would be almost impossible to successfully sue an account like Celeb Spellcheck for defamation.

Speaking to the Outspoken podcast, labor and media attorney John Laxon explained that it is very difficult to prosecute someone who hides behind an anonymous Instagram account.

‘[Social media platforms] will never volunteer if someone is behind [accounts like Celeb Spellcheck]. You have to use legal proceedings to force the platforms to tell you,” he said.

Celeb Spell Check Explained

Celeb Spellcheck started a few years ago as an account making fun of Instagram models’ bad spelling, but has since grown into a platform to hold influencers accountable for their lies and irresponsible behavior.

The profile is also a hub for user-submitted gossip about influencers.

Celeb Spellcheck has faced criticism over the years, with people like Tayla Damir accusing the page of ‘bullying’.

“It is very difficult when you are up against multinational platforms like Google or Facebook,” he said, adding that such legal proceedings are both very expensive and time-consuming.

Even if you manage to identify the anonymous user behind accounts like Celeb Spellcheck, they may not even be worth suing if they have no assets, Mr. Laxon added.

“What if it’s a teenager operating from their bedroom? “There’s no point in suing someone who doesn’t have any assets because if you do, you can’t get anything out of it,” he said.

Mr Laxon also pointed out another challenge: proving that the post is in fact defamatory (in the sense that it would damage someone’s reputation) and also untrue.

If the message is true, it cannot be defamatory. So it goes without saying that simply reposting someone else’s typos does not fall under the definition of defamation.

The admin has also accused model and influencer Steph Claire Smith of having a breast enlargement. Shown in a photo from a few years ago

Steph's chest appears to have increased in size since her early modeling career, but she has not publicly commented on it

The admin has also accused model and influencer Steph Claire Smith (above, in two photos taken years apart) of having a breast enlargement

“So assuming you have identified the person, you need to be absolutely certain that you have been defamed and that what they have published is defamatory and untrue,” he said.

“If a publisher can easily rely on the defense of the truth, someone would be crazy to file a defamation suit,” he said.

Mr. Laxon noted that a “photo typically speaks for itself,” and that simply reposting an unmanipulated image or video of a celebrity would fall under the “truth” defense.

In 2021, Celeb Spellcheck revealed that a celebrity once tried to sue her for defamation for uploading a video of them “doing drugs,” insinuating that the celebrity’s attempt was unsuccessful.

“They said it was her ‘acne medicine,’ lol,” she added wryly.

On March 20, Celeb Spellcheck shocked its loyal followers by deleting its archive of content after a wave of backlash from influencers and reality stars.

In a message to their followers on March 20, 2021, the admin shut down rumors that they were facing lawsuits or that their identities were about to be exposed.

Instead, they said they were taking a break to determine the bill’s future.

After assuring fans that things were going “all right,” the account owner explained their sudden decision to delete the profile.

The person behind the account admitted that they were considering whether or not to reveal their identity and whether or not they should monetize the page.

They also said they were considering whether to continue gossiping.

SMARTPHONE owners have been warned about Trojans aiming to steal their data.

A Trojan horse virus is a type of malware that is downloaded to a system disguised as a legitimate program.

Smartphone owners have been warned about TrojansCredit: Getty

Now in a new one after on Reddit, iPhone and Android owners are raising the alarm about this malicious software infiltrating devices.

The thread links to an article by 9to5Mac that warns of an Android Trojan called GoldDigger.

After coming to light last year, researchers discovered that the malware can steal biometric data and bank account information.

Now the trojan has evolved into the GoldPickaxe trojan and can infect both iOS and Android.

HOW DO TROJANS WORK?

Typically, hackers use social engineering methods to hide the malicious code in software.

Once the software lands on your device, it can infiltrate discreetly to steal sensitive information.

This can include personal photos, text messages, emails, login details and contacts.

It then sends this information back to advertisers, data companies or third parties, such as hackers.

In some cases, the malware can help hackers gain remote access to your device.

“I found a new trojan, I unlocked my phone, gave it to a malicious person and told them my password. It gave them full access to my device,” a Reddit user shared below the thread.

‘Criminals can eavesdrop on you’, say experts who warn all iPhone and Android users not to log in with ‘text codes’ anymore

“This happened to me when I used a third-party app store on Android a few years ago,” said another.

“I tried everything to remove the trojan. In the end, the only thing that worked was resetting the phone. It was a huge task, but I learned my lesson,” she added.

“Everyone will be scammed or deceived at some point in their lives. It’s impossible to know about every scam,” warned another.

HOW TO STAY SAFE

There are a number of ways users can protect your device from Trojans and other malicious software.

For starters, you should never download apps from outside the official Apple or Google app stores.

It’s important to also keep your phone’s software up to date as updates often include security patches.

Never download a link or open an attachment from an email or text message that seems strange, suspicious, or unfamiliar.

Finally, you’ll want to install an antivirus program on your device so it can scan for malware.

Mr. Biden expressed particular outrage at that line. “How on earth does he dare bring that up?” the president said at a news conference hours after Mr. Hur’s report became public. “Honestly, when I was asked the question, I thought to myself, it was none of their damn business.”

The transcript shows that Mr. Hur did not specifically ask when Beau Biden had died. Instead, Mr. Hur pressed Mr. Biden about where he kept papers related to work he did after leaving the vice presidency in January 2017, such as teaching at a Washington think tank, a “moonshot” project against cancer and the book he wrote about Beau’s disease. dead.

At that point, Mr. Biden, who sometimes stutters, began stammering and garbled. He said “when I got out of the Senate” when he meant to refer to leaving the vice presidency, apparently conflating the events of 2015, when Beau died and Mr. Biden chose not to run against Hillary Clinton running for the 2016 Democratic presidential nomination. , with events in 2017 when he wrote the memoir and decided to run for president in the 2020 cycle:

BIDEN: Well, um…I, I, I, I, I don’t know. This is, what, 2017, 2018, that area?

HUR: Yes sir.

BIDEN: Remember, in this time frame, my son – either deployed or dying, and, and he was – and by the way, there were still a lot of people at the time I left the Senate were encouraging me to go into this period to participate, except the president. I’m not – and it’s not a mean thing to say. He just thought she had a better chance of winning the presidency than I did. And I wouldn’t have done that at this point either. Even though I’m at Penn, I still haven’t run away from the idea that I might run for office again. But if I were to run again, I would run for president. And so what happened: in what month did Beau die? O God, May 30 —

RACHEL COTTON, A WHITE HOUSE LAWYER: 2015.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE SPEAKER: 2015.

BIDEN: Was it in 2015 that he died?

UNIDENTIFIED MALE SPEAKER: It was May 2015.

BIDEN: It was 2015.

ROBERT BAUER, BIDEN’S PERSONAL LAWYER: Or – I’m not sure of the month, sir, but I think that was the year.

MARC KRICKBAUM, HUR Deputy: That’s right, Mr. President. It –

BIDEN: And what’s happened in the meantime is that – and Trump gets elected in November 2017?

UNIDENTIFIED MALE SPEAKER: 2016.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE SPEAKER: ’16.

BIDEN: ’16, 2016. Okay. So – why do I have 2017 here?

ED SISKEL, BIDEN’S WHITE HOUSE COUNSEL: That’s when you left office, January 2017.

BIDEN: Yeah, okay. But that’s when Trump is sworn in, January.

SISKEL: Right.

BAUER: Right, right.

BIDEN: OK, yeah. And in 2017 Beau had passed away and – this is personal…

Mr. Biden then talked about Beau’s death; how he came to write the subsequent book “Promise Me, Dad,” based on his son’s dying request to remain involved in public service; and how in 2017, after a rally of white nationalists in Charlottesville, Virginia, he decided to run for president against Donald J. Trump.

The transcript also contained some minor apparent errors that were not noted in Mr. Hur’s report. For example, Mr. Biden had to be prodded to remember the name of the federal agency that holds official documents — the National Archives — or that fax machine is the name of the device that transmits images of documents over telephone lines.

But Mr. Hur made a particularly striking claim, saying that Mr. Biden “couldn’t remember when he was vice president.” As evidence, Mr. Hur quoted him as saying: “If it was 2013 – when did I quit as vice president?” According to the report, Mr. Biden showed similar confusion on the second day of questioning by asking, “Am I still vice president in 2009?”

SAVVY mum Shelley Ward has saved thousands of pounds a year thanks to several smart moves.

The 41-year-old from Manchester has even turned a regular hobby into a money-saver in a bid to boost her bank account.

3

Shelley is now studying horticulture after saving money by growing her own vegetables

The green-fingered mother-of-one, who lives with daughter Elisha, 22, started growing her own vegetables three years ago when she was struggling to make ends meet, and hasn’t looked back since.

Shelley told The Sun: “I now grow a lot of my own food. I fill about 50% of my garden with seeds and vegetables.

“I think this will save me more than €600 per year.”

It was Shelley’s mother who planted the seed in her mind to take up this hobby.

“Mom is a wonderful gardener,” Shelley said. “Because I had very little money at the time, I thought: I would give vegetables a try.”

According to the gardener, it is easy to get started.

“All you need is some seeds and a place to grow them,” Shelley said.

“I got some boxes from eBay, known as ‘pallet collars’, for £12 and used them to make raised beds. My mother then helped me with pots and compost.”

From humble beginnings, Shelley now grows fourteen different vegetables every year.

“I go for things like tomatoes and potatoes, which are very useful in the kitchen,” she said

This is how you find the best bargains in the supermarket

“But zucchini and cucumbers are definitely my favorite. They are easy to grow and you always have too many to eat, which means you can give items as gifts to friends and family.”

Shelley estimates she saves around £50 a week on her food bill in the summer.

“Being vegan, I usually just buy beans, legumes and rice to go with my home-grown vegetables,” she said.

“My daughter is a great cook, so I usually leave the recipes to her. She loves herbs and spices, so I planted a lot more this year.”

The tricky part, according to Shelley, is managing many different plants, because they all need specific conditions to thrive.

“As a beginner, I recommend starting small with your favorite vegetables and building up from there once you get the hang of it,” she said.

“I usually focus on fast-growing, high-yield staples that don’t take up too much space.”

According to Shelley, she spends about an hour a day gardening in early spring.

This includes preparing beds, reading books, planning the layout, sowing and maintaining lots of seedlings.

“It may seem like a lot, but I find it therapeutic,” she said.

“If you’re looking for something that’s less maintenance, you can opt for just herbs and potatoes, which don’t need much more than a little watering.”

If you’re keen to follow in Shelley’s footsteps, she recommends investing in essentials such as a compost bin, a rain barrel and a heated grow kit with a UV light source.

“You can then use lots of things you already have – such as toilet roll tubes that work well as seed pots, along with old tires or plastic containers,” she said.

“With just a small effort I was able to achieve enormous savings. This has made a big difference to the household finances.”

“Check prices to get a good deal on seeds, and don’t be afraid to ask around. People on allotments are often willing to exchange seeds and young plants.”

Shelley believes that making mistakes is all part of the learning process.

“I’ve made a lot of mistakes over the years,” she said. “I once planted purple broccoli, but didn’t realize I needed to protect the plants from pests – and thus created a huge caterpillar farm.

“Within a week they ate almost everything down to the stem.”

Life has been hard at times for Shelley, and there are times when she has very little money.

That was a real incentive for her to save money wherever she could.

“I moved to Manchester in 2020 after a traumatic experience left me with complex post-traumatic stress disorder,” says Shelley.

“Just when I was feeling better, I was fired. Since this was during the lockdown, it became very difficult. And with my daughter in college, I found myself unemployed and alone.”

Fortunately, things started to improve for Shelley after she started therapy, as this led to her getting out into nature a lot more. This was also the point when she started gardening.

“Since I had very little money, I wanted to try vegetarian,” she said. “Things just grew from there.”

Top tips for growing your own vegetables

EVERYONE can get started growing their own vegetables, and it costs from just €1.

GRASS ROOTS Culinary herbs are a good start for anyone just starting to grow.

You can get a starter pack from just €10 and before you know it you will have mint, chives, parsley, thyme and basil.

KEEN BEANS Hardy broad beans can be sown early in the year and later added to tasty stews or rice dishes.

Buy a packet of seeds for just €1, pot them up and put them in your greenhouse or store them indoors on your windowsill.

SALAD SAVINGS Microgreens are the early shoots of larger crops and can bulk up salads and add flavor.

To save even more money, you can use washed-out yogurt pots to plant in and place on your windowsill.

In a few weeks you should be able to cut off the green sprouts and add them to dishes.

SPICY AND EASY Peppers can be grown all year round, although it is suggested that the earlier you sow them, the hotter they are.

Place your seeds in seed compost in a small pot and place them on a sunny windowsill.

You can also cover it with a plastic bag tied to the bottom of the pot with an elastic band to increase humidity and give them the best chance.

Shelley is now in her first year studying horticulture online: the RHS (Royal Horticultural Society) Level 2.

Growing her own food is just one of the many methods the savvy mom uses to save money.

“I also taught myself how to make chutney,” she said. “I often give jars as gifts to friends. This saves me the cost of buying presents. I think this will save me about €200 per year.”

Shelley’s tips to boost your bank balance

Another hack that Shelley swears by is using Topcashback before purchasing anything online.

This is one of the top cashback sites where you can earn money just by shopping at retailers through their website.

The process is simple. Once you’ve found a deal on something you want, you can contact cashback sites to see if they have an offer.

If you find one, click through to your chosen merchant and the kickback will usually be deposited into your account within 30 days.

Shelley said: “I love voucher sites and discount sites, but Topcashback is my favorite because there are so many stores on the site.

“One of the ‘biggest’ amounts I got was £50 cashback from a big shopping trip at Sephora.

I spent almost £500 on a lot of things including a Dyson hairdryer and toiletries.”

At Christmas she earned around £29 cashback from Superdrug after spending around £150 on presents.

Shelley added: “Overall I think I made around £200 from Topcashback last year.”

The smart mother tends to plow her earnings back into the garden.

“I’ve just bought a £200 ‘hot compost’ bin,” she said.

“This in turn saves me up to £200 on the cost of buying compost. Not only does it save me money, but it also means I am gardening in a more sustainable way.”

How can I save on my supermarket shopping?

There are plenty of ways to save money at your grocery store.

You can look for yellow or red stickers on products, which indicate when they are discounted.

If the food is fresh, eat it quickly or freeze it for another time.

Making a list should also save you money because you’ll be less likely to make hasty purchases when you go to the grocery store.

Choosing your own brand can be an easy way to save hundreds of dollars a year on your food bill, too.

This means ditching the ‘best’ or ‘luxury’ products and instead opting for ‘own’ or value-for-money lines.

Many supermarkets have shaky fruit and vegetable programs where you can get cheap prices if they are misshapen or imperfect.

For example, Lidl runs its Waste Not scheme, offering 5kg boxes of fruit and vegetables for just £1.50.

If you’re on a low income and a parent, you could potentially get up to £442 a year in Healthy Start vouchers, which you can also use at the supermarket.

In addition, many municipalities offer supermarket vouchers as part of the Household Support Fund.

When Shelley needs to buy food, she always shops online.

“That way I don’t get tempted by extra stuff,” she says.

“I also do a price comparison between different stores to make sure I’m paying the lowest possible price for my basket of goods.”

Not only is Shelley an expert in the garden, she’s also a bit of a DIY pro.

“I’ve taught myself a whole set of skills so that I can save costs by not having to hire professionals,” she says.

“I cleared a load of concrete from my garden last year with a ‘concrete breaker’, which was scary but fun.

“My advice to others is not to be afraid to learn a new skill.

“I’m definitely a ‘jack of all trades, master of none.’ But I like the challenge – and the money it saves me.”

Shelley estimates that doing chores herself will have saved her more than £1,000 by 2023.

Additionally, she has learned how to perform her own beauty treatments.

“I dye my own hair and do my own nails,” she said.

“This is another good way to reduce expenses and probably saved me £100 last year.”

All told, Shelley thinks that by combining a whole host of clever hacks – growing her own vegetables, making her own gifts, checking cashback, getting the lowest price on her groceries, doing her own chores and performing her own beauty treatments – she’s got it saved a whopping £3,000 last year.

She added: “With just a little effort I have been able to make huge savings. This has made a big difference to the household finances.”

A LOYAL customer who was ‘debanked’ by Barclays was living a ‘nightmare’ after being blocked from £15,000 of his own money.

The British expat opened his account with the major bank in 1965, but moved to France twenty years later.

In 2022, the stunned member was told his account had been closed and his checks had stopped.

He wrote to This is money and said: “I was later told I could no longer keep my account due to the changes in Brexit rules, and the account was closed.

‘My problem is getting the £15,000 I had with Barclays transferred to my French bank – it’s been a nightmare.

“It’s been ten months and my money is still tied up in a ‘holding account’ that I have no access to.”

The frustrated customer told how he had to send Barclays a copy of his British passport, French account details and other forms provided by the bank.

After jumping through endless hoops and making sure all the paperwork was signed off, he claimed that “the money still hasn’t been transferred.”

“I am in my 80s, don’t use the internet and due to my ill health cannot travel to Britain to sort this out,” he added.

The pensioner explained how Barclays’ complaints department called and told him they couldn’t see any bill for him at all.

“This is quite concerning,” he said.

‘It’s shameful,’ shout Barclays customers who have to make a 50-mile trek to the nearest branch, while the bank is only closing a branch in Suffolk

‘Banks are getting lazier’

In response, Helen Crane from This is Money explained how many banks prevent people who do not have a home address in the UK from holding an account with them.

Others allow existing members to keep their accounts but prevent them from opening a new account – or pay a significant fee for doing so.

Helen highlighted that Barclays had given the concerned expat a six-month warning before closing the account by post – which he said he had not received.

The confused customer also claimed he had not had a bank statement from Barclays for six months prior to this warning.

Helen said: “If you had realized about the closure earlier you could have simply transferred the money yourself to your French bank account before the UK account was closed.

“But because you missed that deadline, the process was much more difficult.

“I do feel that banks are becoming lazier when it comes to dealing with customers who prefer to correspond by mail or telephone, rather than doing things online.”

MONEY TRANSFERRED

The consumer champion said older bank members who have problems accessing the internet are particularly vulnerable.

She explained how she contacted Barclays in an attempt to help.

They claimed that the bank did not have his correct phone number despite him calling them several times.

And a Barclays employee had called him from the complaints department on the correct number, which meant they had the right number.

“I had to send them your correct phone number in order to transfer the money, and I’m glad that finally happened at the end of December,” Helen said.

This was ten months after his first attempt to contact Barclays and get his money back.

“If I hadn’t been involved, who knows how long it would have lasted,” she added.

A Barclays spokesperson said: “Our Barclays UK products are designed for customers within the UK. Barclays UK no longer offers personal checking or savings accounts to retail customers who have an address registered with us outside the UK, with limited exceptions.

“Our client was given six months’ notice of this decision in July 2022 ahead of account closure in February 2023, with accompanying information explaining the next steps they needed to take.

“Between April 2023 and July 2023, monthly letters were sent to our client requesting information that would allow the funds to be released.

“Unfortunately, without this information we were unable to complete the claim. Once we were able to speak with our customer, the required information was obtained and the funds were released.”

The Sun asked Barclays for comment.

‘THE BANKS’

More cases like this are coming to light as the big banks are being held accountable.

Debanking gives people or organizations access to their money, often without any warning.

It comes as a woman who had her bank account closed by Barclays without warning said she was unable to access her £47,000 for weeks.

Hayley Grocock said she was almost forced to close her West Yorkshire charity after the bank was written off.

Hayley is the CEO of Wakefield District Sight Aid (WDSA), an organization that provides vital assistance to blind people.

After four weeks, the charity received the money in the form of a check from the banking giant.

Barclays then offered Hayley to reopen the account as they claimed there was no evidence of wrongdoing.

Meanwhile, a pensioner has told how he was left penniless after his bank account was closed by Barclays “without warning”.

Clive Sparks, 73, was furious when his family business was thrown into ‘chaos’ after Barclays suddenly announced it was closing the account after 85 years.

Why can a bank block your account?

YOUR bank may decide to dump you simply because you don’t meet the conditions.

For example, when you signed up, you agreed to pay a certain amount every month or to set up multiple direct debits.

In these types of situations, the bank must give you at least 30 days’ notice so that you can take your money elsewhere.

But which? Money editor Jenny Ross says: “Under certain circumstances, banks may close accounts without notice or reason.

“This also applies to suspected fraudulent use of the account.”

Your bank can immediately freeze your account if it detects expenses or large transfers that appear suspicious.

It can prevent money from leaving your account to help protect you if you fear you have fallen victim to fraudsters.

Likewise, if a large amount of money is received, it may be suspected that you are involved in a money laundering operation.

Fraudsters can manipulate customers into becoming so-called money mules.

This means they could be helping crooks move money earned from crime without even knowing it.

Sometimes victims think they are helping a friend or getting paid for a job that seems legitimate.

After your account has been temporarily blocked, the bank will conduct further investigation.

If he is still not satisfied after this, he can close your account permanently.

META has started warning users that they should switch accounts very quickly or risk having it permanently deleted.

The social networking giant has issued notices to owners of Quest VR headsets who are still using an old Oculus account.

Those who still have an Oculus account must migrate to the Meta account system or all games, purchases and store credits will be lost.

Meta has been phasing out Oculus accounts for a while now, as Mark Zuckerberg’s company shifts its brand to Meta.

Today, the Oculus name has all but disappeared with devices falling under the “Meta Quest” umbrella.

Initially, the company wanted users to create a Facebook account.

However, that didn’t go down well with people who didn’t want their Facebook profile linked to their Quest headset.

So in 2022, meta accounts were introduced.

In January 2023, the social network stopped allowing users to log into their Oculus accounts.

Active users of Quest headsets have already migrated to continue accessing the service.

But those who haven’t used their account in a while are being warned about their last chance to switch or lose their account and everything associated with it. The edge reports.

“If your Oculus account is deleted, you will no longer be able to use Meta Quest with your Oculus account and you will not be able to reactivate or retrieve anything from your account,” reads an email message.

Watch as Mark Zuckerberg tries out Apple’s new rival gadget and rejects it for three reasons – mainly the price difference

The removal will take place in a few weeks, on March 29.

SMARTPHONE owners have been warned about scammers sending malicious emails to steal their money.

Phishing fraud is a major threat to online security and is becoming increasingly common.

According to a recent McAfee blog post, millions of phishing emails are sent every day.

WHAT IS PHISHING?

Phishing messages trick people into clicking malicious links or attachments that can steal their personal or financial information.

In some cases, scammers can pose as legitimate companies or organizations, such as banks, credit card providers, or even your employer.

To help people avoid falling victim to phishing emails, McAfee has shared some warning signs to look out for.

RED FLAGS

According to McAfee, there are a few sentences in emails that could indicate they are a scam:

  • “You have won our cash prize draw! Send us your bank details so we can deposit your winnings!”
  • “You owe back taxes. Send payment immediately via this link, otherwise we will refer your case to the police.”
  • “We have noticed some potentially unusual activity on your credit card. Follow this link to confirm your account information.”
  • “There was an unauthorized attempt to access your streaming account. Click here to verify your identity.”
  • “Your package was undeliverable. Click on the attached document for delivery instructions.”

Most scammers will use a sense of urgency to get you to send money or information.

Bad actors know that victims who feel pressure act less rationally when making decisions.

Furthermore, legitimate entities will never ask you to send money or banking information on the spot.

Instead, they give you information and a specific time frame to trade.

My bank account was emptied for 43,000 minutes after a strange pop-up on the work computer – on the next call I made, all was lost

Another thing you should pay attention to is whether you are asked to transfer money at all.

Finally, it’s important to know that if an offer seems too good to be true, it probably is.

HOW TO STAY SAFE

There are several steps you can take to reduce the risk of becoming a victim of phishing.

The first step you can take to lower your risk is to recognize the scam; pay attention to clues and never click on suspicious links.

Second, you want to make sure that your devices are protected and that the software is constantly updated.

The last thing you need to do is protect your information with strong passcodes and encryption.

If you think your device or data has been compromised, you should run an anti-malware program and change all your passcodes immediately.
