Ceremony of Ram Lalla Pran Pratishtha: The Union Cabinet has saluted Prime Minister Modi for presiding over the ceremonial enthronement of Shri Ram Lalla.

Prime Minister Modi called on citizens to pledge from this moment on to build a strong, capable, great and godly India.

New Delhi: The Union Cabinet has passed a resolution praising Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the successful conduct of Shri Ram Lalla's 'Pran Pratishtha' at the Grand Ram Temple in Ayodhya. The newly constructed Lord Ram temple was opened to devotees across the world on January 22 and witnessed a huge influx of devotees to take 'darshan' of Lord Ram's idol in Ayodhya.

The Union Cabinet greets Prime Minister Modi

The Union Cabinet also saluted Prime Minister Modi for presiding over the ceremonial enthronement of Shri Ram Lalla at his birthplace Ayodhya. The Cabinet in its resolution affirmed that Prime Minister Modi fulfilled an age-old dream that is inextricably linked to Indian civilization.

Terming the resolution as 'historic', the Cabinet further noted that the enthronement of Ram Lalla and the grand opening of his majestic abode, both presided over by Prime Minister Modi, were 'historic' as the moment arrived after centuries of wait. The resolution further stated that although the country had achieved organic independence in 1947, its soul was freed from centuries of colonial slavery on January 22, 2024.

“You (PM Modi) said in your speech that Lord Ram is the influence, flow, policy and destiny of India. And today we can say, not from a political perspective, but from a spiritual perspective, that destiny has chosen you for the Pran Pratishtha of Maryada Purushottam Lord Ram, the pillar of India's Sanatani stream and global influence,” said the Cabinet. mentioned in its resolution. The government felt that the 'Pran Pratishtha' was not only a 'once-in-a-lifetime' but also a 'once-in-many-lifetimes' moment.

A once in a lifetime opportunity

“If we look at reality, this opportunity for the cabinet members cannot be called a one-time opportunity, but a once in a lifetime opportunity. We are all fortunate to be present on this occasion in the highest committee of the country, the Cabinet,” it added.

“The Prime Minister, through his actions, has raised the morale of this nation and strengthened cultural trust. The kind of emotional outpouring from people that we saw across the country during the Pran Pratishtha ceremony, we have never seen such an outpouring of emotions,” the resolution said. The Ram Lalla idol was unveiled during the elaborate 'Pran Pratishtha ceremony' on January 22, during which hour-long rituals took place in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who conducted the ceremony.

Mandy Moore's family grows by four paws thanks to their new rescue dog.

“Welcome to the family, Marshmallow,” Moore, 39, wrote via Instagram on Saturday, Jan. 20, next to a photo of the dog lying on a white dog bed. “This sweet boy was found on the street, many miles away, for several days by our beloved nanny, Celina. He's about 6-7 months old, not chipped, not fixed (but scheduled for next week) and just the most unexpectedly wonderful addition to our gang.

She continued: “We weren't looking for another dog, but he was looking for us and the fact that he looks strikingly similar to our sweet Joni made it too impossible to ignore. The cats are baffled and Jackson (our 14 year old sheepdog rescue) is a little too 🤷‍♀️ but Marshmallow is slowly winning them over.”

Moore and husband Taylor Goldsmith are currently pet parents to dog Jackson and three cats. They previously shared pup Joni, who was euthanized in December 2020.

Mr Guterres said he hoped the resolution would help the UN and aid agencies deliver more food, water and medicine to people in Gaza, but said the only way to truly tackle the crisis was to end the fighting.

“A humanitarian ceasefire is the only way to meet the desperate needs of the people of Gaza and end their ongoing nightmare,” he told reporters after the vote.

Israeli Ambassador to the UN Gilad Erdan thanked President Biden and other US officials for “standing with Israel” during the negotiations and “maintaining defined red lines.”

“The resolution maintains the Israeli security authority to monitor and inspect aid entering Gaza,” Erdan said in a statement. He also criticized the Security Council for not condemning the October 7 attack, adding: “The UN’s focus solely on Gaza aid mechanisms is unnecessary and disconnected from reality – in any case Israel is allowing aid to come in any way. necessary scale.”

Riyad H. Mansour, the Palestinian ambassador to the UN, gave an emotional speech to the Council, choking back tears as he told the story of a Palestinian girl who lost her parents and two siblings in an Israeli airstrike on their house. She too was later killed in an attack on a hospital, he said.

“This resolution is a step in the right direction,” he said. “It must be implemented and accompanied by enormous pressure for an immediate ceasefire – I repeat, an immediate ceasefire.”

Currently, aid trucks entering Gaza for inspection must drive from Egypt to Kerem Shalom in Israel, then return to Egypt and cross the border into Gaza – a process that UN officials said was cumbersome and untenable.

The United Arab Emirates and Egypt, which control the Rafah crossing, wanted the UN to inspect aid shipments for weapons and other contraband, arguing this would streamline the process. But the United States argued that Israel must be involved in the inspection process for it to be workable.

Health officials in Gaza say about 20,000 people, many of them children and women, have been killed in Israel’s military offensive.

Israel Hamas War Latest update: The United Nations has adopted a resolution condemning Israeli settlement activities in occupied Palestinian territory. The draft resolution, which was adopted on November 9 (Thursday), was passed by an overwhelming majority, with 145 countries, including India, voting for and against “illegal Israeli settlements”.

The resolution entitled ‘Israeli settlements in the occupied Palestinian territories, including East Jerusalem, and the occupied Syrian Golan’ was introduced by the UN to condemn ‘Israel’s illegal settlement activities in Palestinian lands’.

Only seven countries – the United States, Canada, Israel, Hungary, the Marshall Islands, the Federated States of Micronesia and Nauru – voted against the resolution, while 18 members abstained.

India has reiterated its position on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and while it maintains cordial ties with the Jewish nation, New Delhi has maintained that it favors the two-state solution that envisions a separate Palestinian state, free from any form of Israeli influence.

Prime Minister Modi reiterates India’s position on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict

On October 18 and ten days after the war broke out between Hamas fighters and Israel, Prime Minister Narendra Modi called Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas and reiterated India’s long-standing “principled position” on the Israeli-Palestinian issue.

Modi told Abbas that India remains steadfast on the two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. He also said New Delhi will continue to send humanitarian aid to the Palestinian people.

In a telephone conversation, Prime Minister Modi simultaneously shared Abbas India’s “deep concerns” over terrorism, violence and the deteriorating security situation in the region, an official statement said.

“Spoke with Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas. I expressed my condolences for the loss of civilian lives at Al Ahli Hospital in Gaza,” Prime Minister Modi said on ‘X’.

“We will continue to send humanitarian aid to the Palestinian people. Shared our deep concern about terrorism, violence and the deteriorating security situation in the region,” he said.

“Reiterated India’s long-standing principled position on the Israeli-Palestinian issue,” the Prime Minister added.

India calls for strict compliance with international humanitarian law

Speaking in the backdrop of an attack on a hospital in the Gaza Strip that sparked global outrage, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said India is concerned about civilian casualties and the humanitarian situation.

We insist on strict compliance with international humanitarian law, he said during his weekly media briefing, answering questions about the attack on the hospital, which killed at least 500 Palestinians.

We strongly condemned the heinous attack on Israel, Bagchi said, adding that the international community must stand together in the fight against terrorism in all its forms.

On the Palestinian issue, he said India reiterated its position in favor of direct negotiations on a two-state solution.

Recently, Israeli Ambassador Naor Gilon had urged India to ban Gaza-based militant group Hamas as a terrorist organization. “It is time for India to declare Hamas as a terrorist organization in India,” Gilon had said, adding that many countries have already done so.

Israel-Hamas war

Israel is currently engaged in a bloody conflict with Hamas militants who control the Gaza Strip.
Since the start of hostilities, more than 10,000 Palestinians have been killed in the counter-offensive launched by the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) in retaliation for the October 7 attacks.

According to official Israeli sources, at least 1,400 Israelis and foreigners have been murdered in Israel.

Three babies die as Gaza hospital goes ‘out of service’

On Saturday, three babies reportedly died in the neonatal ward of Al-Shifa Hospital in northern Gaza after the hospital went “out of service” amid continued Israeli fire in the area, CNN reported citing the Hamas-controlled Ministry of Health.

According to the report, in which Dr. Munir Al-Bursh, director general of the Hamas-controlled Ministry of Health, is quoted as saying that doctors in the neonatal ward are now being forced to manually perform artificial respiration on the 36 babies they are treating at the hospital. Hopital.

Bursh also said the hospital was “surrounded on all four sides,” estimating that 400 people were being treated at the hospital and about 20,000 displaced persons were seeking shelter in the hospital complex.

The spokesman for the Hamas-led Ministry of Health in Gaza, Dr. Ashraf al-Qidra, said he was being held in the al-Shifa complex.

Dr. Qidra said in a statement to CNN that the complex is currently “out of service” after being repeatedly targeted by Israeli fire.

“The intensive care unit, the pediatric ward and the oxygen equipment are no longer working,” said Dr. Qidra.

The IDF has regularly said that Hamas uses hospitals and other civilian infrastructure in Gaza as cover for its military operations. It has also warned civilians in northern Gaza to move south, CNN reported.

Islamabad: In less than 24 hours after officially ‘rejecting’ the ‘hybrid model’ for the Asia Cup following a nod from the Asian Cricket Council (ACC), Pakistan Cricket Board-emerging chairman Zaka Ashraf launched a full ‘volte -face’ by accepting the four matches awarded to the original hosts.

The hybrid model, with the Asia Cup jointly hosted by Pakistan and Sri Lanka, will see India play all of their matches, including two against the island’s arch-rivals.

The model was proposed by Ashraf’s predecessor and bete noire Najam Sethi and the banker, who will take over the reins of PCB on June 27, had “rejected” the idea at a media conference.

It has been learned that Ashraf was unaware that PCB chief Sethi had already been a signatory to ‘Hybrid Model’, which has been approved by the almighty ACC board headed by BCCI supremo Jay Shah and the decision cannot be reversed.

Pakistan Cricket Board could have faced punitive action if Ashraf caused a roadblock without full details of the event. “In my personal opinion, this whole hybrid model is not beneficial to Pakistan and I didn’t like it,” Ashraf told ESPN Cricinfo.

“As the host country, Pakistan should have negotiated better to ensure that the entire tournament would be played in Pakistan. Sri Lanka takes the largest number of games and leaves Pakistan with only four games, which is not in our country’s interest,” he added.

Ashraf then admitted he didn’t know all the details and made a full U-turn. “But I see the decision has been made, so we have to go with it. I will not block or have any intention of not complying with the decision. There’s not much I can do but keep the promise. But going forward, every decision we make will be made for and in the interest of the country.”

Haunted by its responsibility for World War II and the tyranny of the Nazis, Germany embraced the pursuit of peace with the fervor of a convert. But on Wednesday, the government took a major step toward shedding that legacy as war once again transforms the European continent.

For the first time since the end of the world war, the government has unveiled a comprehensive document national security strategy intended to address Germany’s vulnerability to new military, economic and geopolitical threats, including climate change.

With the war in Ukraine in its 16th month, Chancellor Olaf Scholz hailed the security plan as “a big, big change in the way we handle security issues.” The goal, he said, is to combine foreign, domestic and economic priorities and increase spending on the military.

But the document may not be all the chancellor had in mind when he took office in December 2021 with a pledge to rethink the national security strategy. Mr Scholz’s tri-party coalition has been hampered by increasing public bickering that both delayed the new plan and left it vulnerable to criticism that it was too watered down.

The Russian invasion of Ukraine, which came months after the German government came to power, has only reinforced the sense of urgency that it can no longer cling to the self-imposed taboo on military power it has had for three-quarters of a century.

While the document received relatively positive reviews from analysts as an explanation of how far Germany has come in changing its strategic culture since the invasion, they questioned whether the ministries of a rival coalition government will follow through on the document’s ambitions or money will stick behind.

A pledge made in February by Mr Scholz – to meet the NATO spending target of 2% of GDP next year and maintain that spending – has been capped, with a pledge to meet that target as an average over a multi-year period.

At the same time, the coalition rejected a request from Defense Minister Boris Pistorius to increase its own budget by 10 billion euros (about $10.8 billion) to get a decent start on rebuilding the German military. Instead, he promised his budget will not be cut — meaning it will be eroded by inflation.

China has been such a contentious issue that the coalition has shelved it, and it will be addressed in a separate paper due next month.

And after fierce arguments about the establishment of a German National Security Council, the parties abandoned the idea.

“It’s hard to be ambitious with so many chefs,” says Ulrich Speck, a German analyst. The vagueness in the document about how Germany plans to deliver on its ambitions is deliberate, he suggested, a way for Mr Scholz, a Social Democrat, to keep the chancellery free to act on the big questions of foreign policy and not to be relinquished to the Foreign Office and German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock, a Green.

In general, the strategy focuses on three pillars of German security. First, there is an active, “robust” defense, including a new strategic culture, high military spending commitments, including meeting the NATO spending target, at least as part of the multi-annual average, and a concentration on deterrence, not disarmament.

Second is resilience: the ability of Germany and its allies to protect their values, reduce economic dependence on rivals, deter and defeat cyber-attacks, and defend the United Nations Charter and the rule of law.

Third is sustainability, a pillar that includes things like climate change and the energy and food crisis.

“Calling it a status quo document sounds unfair, but it does try to take stock of where we are now, and it is already an achievement to say how far Germany has come,” said Claudia Major, head of the International Security Division at the German Institute for International and Security Affairs.

Strategies should be progressive and link resources and goals, she said. “But to some extent this strategy is incapable of doing that because it is not linked to clear budgetary implications,” she said. “Ambitions are nice to have, but without the resources they are hard to judge.”

Christian Lindner, the country’s finance minister and head of the Free Democrats, acknowledged on Wednesday that any new commitments proposed in the strategy — particularly the 2 percent defense spending — would require new funding, but he could not provide forecasts on costs.

Germany has always considered its national interests safe within the NATO alliance, the European Union and its relationship with Washington. So it has never before felt the need to map out its own security strategy.

But that changed with the complicated US presidency of Donald J. Trump, who spoke at various times about leaving NATO and accused Germany of being a free rider and not spending enough on its own defense.

The drafting of a strategy was an important part of the agreement between Mr Scholz’s social democrats and their two coalition partners, the Greens and the Free Democrats. But the Russian invasion in February 2022, just a few months after the coalition took office, generated new urgency, attention and controversy.

Norbert Röttgen, an opposition legislator from the Christian Democratic Union and a foreign policy expert, was sharply critical of the document, which he called “the lowest common denominator” of a divided coalition government, “a description of the undisputed part of the status quo’ and ‘essentially without strategy’.

There are no answers to important questions, he said. He noted the postponement of a China strategy until next month because it has been so controversial, while the current paper simply echoes the European language received about China and never mentions the word Taiwan.

“What is the German idea of a European security order after the war?” he asked. “What about NATO membership for Ukraine, Georgia and Moldova? Not a word,” he said. One of the main challenges for Germany is “the reduction of our trade and investment in China and vice versa, which requires an economic growth strategy to compensate,” he said.

But the links between foreign and economic and technology policy are also left out, he said.

Daniela Schwarzer, foreign policy analyst and member of the board of directors of the Bertelsmann Foundation, said the strategy paper was an important “next step” for Germany. Although it is disappointing for many, “it is as ambitious as it gets for this coalition,” she said.

It’s thinnest to pay for new targets with a static budget, she said, but it shows that “Germany is more serious about defending itself, even if it hopes not to spend more, which of course won’t work.”

But it also includes major cybersecurity goals, sharpens language somewhat about China’s nature as a troubling partner when needed, and “is a call to action” for government ministries and industry.

For Anna Sauerbrey, Die Zeit’s foreign editor, the newspaper was “slightly disappointing” but tried to “provide a holistic view of security that combines foreign and domestic issues, but which must be filled in by tangible policies.”

She noted a new commitment to EU enlargement for Ukraine and Moldova, beyond the Western Balkans, but said the main weakness was “no commitment to increase budget spending”.

Mr Speck, the analyst, said the document broadly described the issues, “but what is particularly lacking are clearly defined goals and priorities to decide where resources should be deployed.” It helps different parts of the government to jointly gain insight into the major goals.

But ultimately, he said, “it is too weak to really make a difference in foreign policy and won’t be very consistent in setting a future course,” which will be decided in the chancery.
