A passenger has been fiercely defended after refusing to switch seats with a married couple because the woman did not want to sit in the middle seat.

The anonymous man, 45, took to Reddit to share his travel experience while sitting in a window seat next to a man and a woman. He admitted that he refused to trade sweats with the woman sitting in the middle seat.

His admission reignited a heated conversation about travel etiquette after a frequent flyer criticized an “entitled” airline passenger who demanded she move to his middle seat during an 11-hour flight so he could sit next to his wife.

The frequent flyer wondered if he was wrong in a thread titled: “Am I the hole?,” because he refused to trade places with the woman.

He wrote: ‘I (m45) sat in the window seat on the plane. A couple got in and the woman sat in the middle seat, with the man facing the aisle.

After settling in, the woman leans toward me with a sweet smile and says, “Would you be so sweet and switch seats with me?” I really can’t fly well in a middle seat.’ So I leaned over and asked if that was her partner, and she said, “Yes, it’s my husband.”

‘I told her I would never want to come between a man and a woman, but I was more than happy to help with the accommodation by switching places with him so that the two of me would sit in the aisle when they we could then find a solution together.’

However, this solution was not good enough for the woman, who claimed that her husband did not want to sit in the middle seat.

She then continued to beg the 45-year-old passenger to swap sweats with her.

“Oh, my husband would never sit in the middle or near a window… so maybe you could do a woman a favor and switch?”

‘I told her I really apologize, but I won’t do it. A moment later I hear her shouting at her husband in another language (which I speak fluently): “The jerk won’t switch seats, so you have to switch with me.”

“He finally switches and leans over with a smile and says his wife switched with him because she has diarrhea and needs the aisle in case she has to run,” he explained.

People flooded the comments section, criticizing the woman for begging another passenger to switch seats, while praising the 45-year-old for putting his foot down

One person said: ‘Not the hole. Villains do this on purpose because they think they can strong-arm you. Sit where you paid and don’t trade unless it’s better for you and you want to.

“I would have answered that old man in his language: ‘Your wife is a bully, enjoy her diarrhea.’

Someone else commented: ‘Ha. My partner and I often sit opposite each other or in front/behind each other because we both prefer aisles. Never a problem to sit apart for a few hours. Not that hole, by the way.’

‘Not the hole. I hope she made it to the bathroom in time,” someone else wrote.

One user said: ‘Not the hole – you are not required to change seats on a plane. You bought the ticket you probably wanted, and they could have done the same.”

‘Not the hole. Very difficult request to ask you to sit between them. No thanks,” someone else wrote.

In the past, a frequent flyer has revealed that she refused to swap her window seat with an ‘entitled’ passenger who wanted to sit next to his wife.

The unnamed woman took to Reddit to share how she refused to move to a middle seat on an 11-hour flight from New York to Cairo, Egypt, so that the man sitting next to her could sit next to his wife.

The anonymous woman shared her story on the social media platform as a way to rant about the man under a thread captioned: ‘TitledPeople,” prompting others online to condemn the man for asking someone else to switch to a lower-quality seat so he could be happy.

The denial comes months after a man sparked a furious debate when he refused to give up his first class seat for his boss, despite using his own credit card points to do so.

In the past, DailyMail.com’s Jaci Stephen even gave her opinion, confessing that she “absolutely refuses” to switch seats, no matter how angry the passenger who wants to switch may get.

A new documentary has captured the beautiful moment the Prince and Princess of Wales returned to Buckingham Palace after the King’s coronation.

The royal couple beamed as they returned to warm applause in the footage, which captured the moment after the King’s ceremony. service at Westminster Abbey on May 6.

Prince William and Kate, who were dressed in formal robes and cloaks for the historic occasion, walked past a line of people who bowed and cheered on the couple.

Moments later, Kate is seen warmly greeting the new king with a kiss on the cheek after his big day.

The 90-minute film was written and co-produced for Oxford Films by Royal Mail expert Robert Hardman and is a highlight of the BBC’s Christmas programme.

A new documentary captured the beautiful moment the Prince and Princess of Wales return to Buckingham Palace after the King’s coronation

It is the first time a crew has been given fly-on-the-wall access to the Royal Family ahead of such a momentous national event.

On Coronation Day, Kate wore formal robes and the Mantle of the Royal Victorian Order, reflecting her status as Dame Grand Cross of the Royal Victorian Order.

The Order was created by Queen Victoria in 1896 to enable her to recognize people who assisted or represented her.

Underneath the robe, she wore a dazzling ivory Alexander McQueen gown with thread embroidery featuring rose, thistle, daffodil and shamrock motifs to represent each of the four nations.

William looked dapper in the Mantle of the Order of the Garter over the ceremonial dress uniform of the Welsh Guards.

He also wore the Most Ancient and Most Noble Order of the Thistle Sash, with the Badge of the Order, and RAF Pilot Wings.

The documentary was written and co-produced for Oxford Films by The Mail’s royal expert Robert Hardman, who provides more wonderful details in today’s Weekend Magazine.

The program includes interviews with family members, especially Princess Anne, and staff responsible for making the King’s big day a success.

On Saturday morning, May 6, King Charles and Queen Camilla are involved in the last-minute preparations at Buckingham Palace.

Down the hall Her Majesty walks out in her Bruce Oldfield embroidered ivory dress, accompanied by her pages – whom she affectionately calls ‘the boys’.

“Very slowly, together,” she says. Lady Lansdowne, one of Camilla’s two official ladies present that day, says of the moment: ‘It wasn’t until we were all ready that we actually all came together to see each other for the first time.

‘She hadn’t seen our dresses and we hadn’t seen her dress. That was a very special moment. It looked a bit like a wedding. It was the bridesmaids who went to visit the bride.’

The images show the queen walking gingerly towards the exit, accompanied by her three grandsons and great-nephew.

“Don’t step on my dress or there will be a problem,” Camilla reminds them fondly.

She adds, smiling to the cameraman, “Here we are, with all the boys.”

The King then appears in conversation with his equerry Lieutenant Colonel Johnny Thompson, smiling and helping to ease everyone’s nervousness by waving the mantle of state that his grandfather, King George VI, wore at his coronation in 1937, during his own ‘I Can Fly Titanic moment. .

Camilla also jokes, “Someone’s always getting pulled over,” referring to the weight of their finery.

As the couple depart for Westminster Abbey in the Diamond Jubilee State Coach, Lady Lansdowne, lifelong friend of the Queen, comments: ‘It was a very exciting moment to get them into that carriage for the first time and then we set off.’

In an exceptionally moving clip, Camilla’s other lady present, her sister Annabel Elliot, waves her goodbye and dabs her face with a handkerchief, apparently moved to tears.

She remembers: ‘I thought back to when I was two years old and watching Queen’s [Elizabeth] Coronation on a small black and white television – and there goes this golden carriage with my sister in it.

‘It’s so surreal and this can’t be happening. Yes, it was quite a moment.’ Lady Lansdowne added: ‘We were ready to go out and literally face the world.’

The Prince and Princess of Wales brushed off the fallout from a race row yesterday evening as they were greeted by raucous applause as they headed in to the  Royal Variety Performance.

Kate, 41, paired her stunning £1,288 Talina gown from Safiyaa with dazzled as she took her seat in the royal box alongside William.

The royal couple, who were joined by Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel of Sweden, got a standing ovation as they headed in to the Royal Albert Hall in south Kensington.

Showing no sign of anguish after a turbulent week for the royal family following the release of a bombshell book, the couple looked delighted to greet crowds.

Senior royals in the UK are said to be ‘dismayed’ at the row after the book by Omid Scobie mentioned two names of senior royals he claimed expressed ‘concerns’ about the colour of Prince Archie ‘s skin.

The Dutch version of his book Endgame was pulled from shelves in the Netherlands after it appeared to name the two royals – something Scobie has put down to a translation error.

Amid the controversy, the Princess of Wales maintained a ‘business as usual’ attitude as she attended the annual event with Prince William and their guests, Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden, dressed in a black Toteme frock, and Prince Daniel.

The pair identified in the book were named widely by media organisations around the world last night, including the Guardian and the Times, as King Charles and Kate.

However, the Princess brushed off the mentions as she arrived at the Royal Variety Performance 2023 in the show-stopping gown which featured flared sleeves and statement shoulders, plus a gem-encrusted high-neck.

she donned a chunky gem bracelet with matching earrings, carried a sparkling clutch bag and wore her thick brunette locks in bouncy curls.

Meanwhile Prince William looked sharp in a black tuxedo, and he acted as the perfect gentleman as he held out his hand for his wife as they took to the red carpet.

On arrival they met ITV executives before being introduced to Daphne Selfe, who at 95 is the world’s oldest supermodel.

Excited crowds gathered outside the hall to peer through the windows for the royal arrival.

Speaking to Ms Selfe, Prince William said: ‘You’re modelling at 95, that is incredible,’ before adding: ‘They don’t make you travel about too much do they?’

Femail fashion verdict: Show-stopper Princess, classy in a cape

By Alice Hare

As her gallant prince took her by the hand, the Princess of Wales stepped out in a show-stopper cerulean gown with dramatic, flowing cape-style sleeves for the Royal Variety Performance last night.

It was the perfect choice for a sub-zero night in the capital. Kate’s dress, by London brand Safiyaa and costing £1,545, boasted shoulder pads and a bespoke bejewelled neckline to amp up the drama.

A £445 twinkling Jenny Packham clutch bag, dazzling diamond and sapphire bracelet and matching blue heels completed the red carpet look, with her glossy mane free in the occasionally gusty evening air. Incidentally, the Duchess of Sussex knows the power of a cape dress, too, having worn a red creation – again by Safiyaa and also to the Royal Albert Hall – for her last royal engagement in March 2020.

Somehow, the dramatic impact of a cape never verges into ostentation: it is unfailingly chic.

Bradley Walsh, who hosted the show, said it was ‘an honour’ to serve the monarchy and present the Royal Variety Performance – but joked that he would be grateful for a CBE.

There was also a brief appearance from Simon Cowell, who came on stage wearing Bono-esque yellow-tinted glasses for his ‘terrible eyesight’ to introduce Britain’s Got Talent winner Viggo Venn (CORR).

The Prince and Princess of Wales appeared to particularly enjoy a sketch from West End magician Simon Lipkin, where Bradley Walsh played the role of a servant.

Pointing at Their Highnesses Mr Walsh said: ‘If I don’t get a knighthood after this there’s no justice,’ causing the Prince and Princess to laugh together.

After the show Their Highnesses met performers including Cher, who had performed her new Christmas single, DJ Play a Christmas Song.

Prince William said: ‘It’s an energetic song isn’t it!’

They then spoke to performers including McFly, Mel C and Paloma Faith.

Faith, who was still barefoot from her performance, said the Prince and Princess of Wales were ‘really nice and very relaxed’.

She added: ‘They said they didn’t mind that I wasn’t wearing shoes as I seemed more comfortable that way.

‘They just put you at ease, which is a real skill.’

The British royals will no doubt be hoping an evening of entertainment at the Royal Albert Hall, featuring performances from Rick Astley, Zara Larsson and music icon Cher, will distract from an awkward week in which a 2021 controversy has been rehashed in Scobie’s book.

Allegations first surfaced that a member of the royal family had ‘concerns’ about the colour of Prince Archie’s skin in 2021 during Harry & Meghan’s sit-down interview with Oprah Winfrey.

Meghan, at the time pregnant with Princess Lilibet, told the veteran broadcaster there had been ‘concerns and conversations about how dark his skin might be’.

She added the conversations had taken place between Prince Harry and members of his family, but refused to name the person or people in question because she believed ‘it would be very damaging to them’.

Harry later added in the same interview: ‘That conversation… I’m never going to share.’

In another sit-down interview with ITV’s Tom Bradby earlier this year as he promoted his memoir, Spare, the Duke of Sussex claimed he and Meghan had never said his family was ‘racist’ in reference to these alleged conversations.
