There is little better than a bacon steak.

We revealed this week that the super sarnie has been named Britain’s most loved comfort food in a survey.

But where is the best place to buy your slices?

Hayley Minn put the supermarket’s own brand bacon to the test and rated it out of five for taste, appearance and value for money. . .

Waitrose 8 dry-cured smoked bacon strips, 250 g

£4 (2 for £7) Price of slices: 50p or 44p

The Waitrose slices were the most expensive option, but they tasted delicious too

9

THIS was the most expensive cut I tried, so I had big expectations.

It had a good color, browned well and was nicely salted and not too chewy.

So all good, but there were other, much cheaper options that were even more fun.

Score: 4/5

Morrisons smoked bacon strips, 10 pack, 300g

£2.25 (2 for £4) Slice price: 23p or 20p

Morrisons Balanced Bacon scored perfect marks in our taste test

9

GOOD appearance, nice brown and a good amount of fat on the side, which is welcome.

Just the right saltiness, well balanced with the smokiness of the meat. One of my favorites.

Score: 5/5

You cooked bacon all wrong. Don’t fry it in oil if you want it crispy

Asda Butcher’s Selection smoked bacon strips, 16 pack, 500g

£3, price of slices: 19p

Asda's bacon had more fat than the others, even though it tasted fine

9

SIXTEEN slices is great value for money, but they were much greasier than the rest.

Chunks of fat came off during cooking, but there was still quite a bit of fat in it.

The bacon tasted good, but a little too salty.

Score: 3/5

Sainsbury’s smoked bacon rashers, 10 pack, 300g

£2.25, price of slices: 23p

Sainsbury's bacon looked and tasted delicious and scored top marks

REALLY a sight to behold when I took it out of the pan, perfectly browned, with not too much fat.

The taste was great too.

The smokiness was strong and there wasn’t too much salt.

Score: 5/5

Tesco British 10 smoked bacon strips, 300 g

£2.70 (£2.40 Clubcard) Ticket price: 27p or 24p

Tesco's bacon tasted 'quite nice' but lacked meatiness

9

THE FIRST thing I noticed was how much fat there was compared to other purchases.

The taste was decent Niceand not as salty as some of its rivals, but there wasn’t enough meatiness for my taste.

Score: 3/5

Oakhurst smoked bacon rashers, 10 pieces, 300 g Aldi

£2.15, price of slices: 22p

Aldi's bacon scored poorly because it shriveled too much

9

Aldi’s bacon scored poorly because it shriveled too muchCredit: Stewart Williams

It seemed like a good price for ten slices, but they shriveled a lot when fried and ended up being much smaller than most.

Too salty too. But not too much fat and a pretty good, meaty flavor.

Score: 2/5

Birch wood smoked bacon, 8 pieces, 300g, Lidl

£1.89, price of slices: 24p

You get what you pay for with the very cheap bacon from Lidl

9

At 7 p.m. individually this seemed great value for your money. So I hoped it tasted as good as the price.

But unfortunately it was way too salty, which overpowered everything else. I couldn’t detect much meat.

Score: 2/5

Co-op smoked back bacon, 280 g, minimum 8 slices

£2, price for slices: 25p

The size of the Co-op racers was a good early sign

RASHERS were nice and big, which put a smile on my face.

The flavor was great too, not too salty and packed with meatiness.

But this bacon had a little too much fat compared to the others.

Despite winning the jackpot, countless British lotto winners have suffered astonishing tragedies and lost their fortunes.

Callie Rogers

Callie became Britain’s youngest lottery winner when she won £1.9 million in 2003.

The 16-year-old from Cumbria gave up her £3.60-an-hour cashier job and started spending money, buying a £180,000 bungalow and a £76,000 house for her mother.

But she ended up spending thousands of dollars on wild parties, three boob jobs and drugs, plus around £300,000 on designer clothes.

Eighteen years after her victory, Callie was revealed to be claiming Universal Credit after losing her fortune.

Michael Carrol

The self-styled ‘King of Chavs’ was 19 when he won £9,736,131 from the National Lottery in November 2002.

The part-time binman, who wore an electronic tag when he bought his winning ticket, immediately bought a £340,000 six-bedroom house in Norfolk.

He spent a further £400,000 on luxury home upgrades and spent £49,000 on a BMW to park in his driveway. Notably, he invested £1 million in Rangers FC shares.

Michael’s wife, Sandra, left him due to his incessant party boy lifestyle and took £1.4 million from the divorce settlement. He had declared bankruptcy in 2010.

Roger Griffiths

Griffiths and his wife Lara earned £1.8 million from the National Lottery in 2005.

The couple quit their day jobs, enjoyed expensive holidays and luxury motorbikes and also spent £800,000 on a converted barn in Wetherby, West Yorks.

After wannabe rock star Roger spent £25,000 making a music record, the couple invested in safer assets, but the global financial crisis struck and left them worthless.

In 2010, their uninsured home tragically went up in flames – and three years later, all their funds dried up.

Lee Ryan

Ex-con Ryan won the £6.5 million jackpot just 17 weeks after the lottery launched in 1994.

It later emerged that he was charged with handling stolen cars and served 18 months in prison after his huge payout.

Once released, he enjoyed his wealth for ten years, even buying a helicopter and a £2 million mansion, but ultimately ended up penniless.

Lee suffered his final blow when he made an ill-fated trip to Kyrgyzstan and invested the last of his profits in real estate, which failed due to an economic crisis.

Gillian and Adrian Bayford

The loved-up couple’s lives changed overnight in 2012 when they raked in a whopping £148 million.

But just 15 months after the victory, their eight-year marriage ended, with both parties partly blaming stress for their stunning victory.

Adrian moved in with ex-horse groomer Samantha Burbidge, who eventually ran off with his money, 30 horses, a horse trailer and a car that he gave her as a gift.

Gillian was convicted of attacking her ex-lover Gavin Innes. She then moved on and started dating fraudster Brian Deans, who ended up in jail and last made headlines in 2021 for claiming almost £40,000 in furlough.

Margaret Loughrey

Margaret earned £27 million in 2013, becoming Northern Ireland’s biggest winner at the time.

However, the 48-year-old later admitted that the enormous fortune did not bring her happiness.

She told local media: “Money has only brought me sadness. It has ruined my life.”

Tragically, Margaret, now in her 50s, was found dead in her home in September last year.

Martyn and Kay Tott

The Totts got the shock of their lives when they realized they had won £3 million in 2001 – six months after buying the ticket.

By the time they saw a call for the winner to come forward, they couldn’t find the ticket.

Computer records in their local Londis showed that Kay had actually bought the ticket.

But a little-known rule that required reporting lost tickets within 30 days meant they would never receive the money, ultimately putting too much strain on their marriage and causing it to break down.

A pig whose lifetime paintings fetched $1 million after being rescued from the slaughterhouse has died in South Africa.

Owner Joanne Lefson, 52, announced the death of her beloved eight-year-old Pigcasso, who suffered from chronic rheumatoid arthritis.

Images show the animal beaming as she paints on a canvas at her home and even at the beach.

During her lifetime, Pigcasso sold her artwork worldwide to celebrities such as Ed Westwick, Rafael Nadal and animal expert Dr. Jane Goodall.

Lefson rescued her from a factory farm in South Africa in May 2016, just weeks before she was to be sent to the slaughterhouse.

Pigcasso was transferred to Farm Sanctuary SA, a non-profit foundation that provides a safe shelter environment for rescued farm animals in Franschhoek.

Lefson said: ‘There is great sadness that such an inspiring figure for animal welfare has passed away, but we also celebrate a life well lived and the profound difference she made.

‘Pigcasso would have become a piece of cake within six months. Instead, she was saved and rose to inspire millions of people to rethink what they eat thanks to her extraordinary talent. Her legacy continues through the sanctuary and our mission to inspire a kinder, more sustainable world for all.

‘Although Pigcasso had already shown complaints of arthritis in recent years, her physical condition deteriorated rapidly in September 2023.

‘By early October, both her hind legs had become lame due to the calcification of her lower back, aggravated by the arthritis; Both incurable conditions directly related to the manipulations and modifications to which farm animals are subjected in today’s industrialized factory farms.’

Pigcasso’s popularity grew and in 2018 she became the first animal artist to organize a solo art exhibition at the V&A Waterfront in Cape Town, South Africa.

Since then she has organized exhibitions around the world, including in the Netherlands, Germany, France, China and the United Kingdom.

‘Her last work of art was called ‘Standing Ovation’.’

Myriam (@myriamestrella8) shared the meal idea with her TikTok followers.

“I lost over 60 pounds and this is what I eat for dinner for my lazy girls,” she said.

She explained that she considered skipping dinner because it was her weigh-in day the next day, but Myriam decided to eat her favorite tuna salad as a dip instead.

“It has 43 grams of protein. I don't count calories, but I like to try to get my protein, that's just my goal,” she said.

“I love adding these bacon bits because they add a really nice smoky flavor and I like a good crunch,” she said as she added the bacon bits to her tuna.

For an extra protein boost, she added some nutritional yeast to her tuna.

“It tastes like a nutty cheese, but it has a lot of protein in it,” she explained.

On her snack plate, she showed off the vegetables next to her tuna, including cherry tomatoes, cucumbers and pickles.

“I love these because they are fermented and taste spectacular,” she said, holding up a large pickle.

However, as she bit into the pickle, the juice squirted out through a leak in the side.

Sherri Shepherd shows off her 50-pound weight loss and toned abs in an orange sports bra as the host brags about feeling 'cute'

'Did you see that? It went all the way into the wall. It squirted up my sleeve,” she said.

“I can't believe this happened and I don't think I'll ever be able to eat a pickle the same way again!

“Tonight we'll pass the pickles.”

She also liked to snack on heart of palm, which also went well with her tuna.

“You eat the interior and then you have a boat, a ship if you will, perfect for the tuna,” she said.

For an extra protein kick, she snacked on protein chips.

“They taste like Doritos and I love dipping my tuna in them,” she said.

In her videothe self-proclaimed “professional recipe tester” (@modishly_plated) demonstrated how to make her bacon puffs.

For her first step, the TikToker preheated her oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit and lined a baking sheet with parchment paper.

“Unroll one sheet of puff pastry and sprinkle evenly with grated mozzarella and parsley,” she told her viewers.

The recipe professional recommended using one and a half cups of mozzarella and four tablespoons of parsley.

“Cover it with the second sheet of puff pastry and cut it into two-inch strips,” she said.

She advised her audience to match the width of their strips to their slices of bacon.

“Cover each strip of dough with the bacon strip and if the strips are too long, trim off the excess,” she said.

She then lifted each strip and twisted it loosely in her hands three times.

She then placed each twisted strip on her lined baking sheet and measured out a quarter cup of Parmesan cheese.

She also beat an egg to give the dough a golden brown finish.

“Brush with beaten egg and sprinkle with Parmesan cheese,” she said as she demonstrated the final step.

Super Bowl Bacon Puff Pastry Twist Ingredients

  • 2 puff pastry sheets
  • 1 1/2 cups mozzarella cheese
  • 4 tablespoons of parsley
  • Pack of bacon
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese

She recommended baking the dish for 15 minutes or until the bacon is done.

After serving the pastries, she served them with a layer of cheese sauce.

Despite Kevin Bacon And Kyra Sedgwick Having been married for over thirty years, the husband and wife duo will have their first on-screen reunion in two decades.

Bacon, 65, and Sedgwick, 58, will star alongside each other in the Connescence, Deadline reported on Tuesday, January 30.

“We are so excited to be working together on screen again for the first time in two decades in such a funny, moving and original script,” they said in a joint statement to the outlet.

The film centers on Stan Olszewski (Bacon), a “sharp, funny, but chronically underperforming security guard.” He breaks up an attempted robbery at the home of Cynthia Rand (Sedgwick), who is married to former Watergate prosecutor Warren Rand (Judd Hirsch).

‘I love animals, they are a joy to be around, and they are very soothing to me. But we also love to go into the garden and get fresh herbs or tomatoes or basil or peppers or zucchini.

“I feel like if you’re always eating out or always having something to eat, you’re always handing over your power to the people who are going to prepare the food for you.” I can’t do that for the rest of my life. I need to have a little more control over what I put into my body.”

An Iraqi man filled a Quran with bacon and burned it Stockholm on Wednesday, an event that has enraged Turkey as Sweden applied to join NATO.

The incendiary stunt was carried out by two men outside the city’s main mosque on the first day of the Muslim three-day Eid al-Adha holiday.

About 200 spectators witnessed one of the two organizers – Salwan Momika – tearing pages from a copy of the Quran and wiping his shoes with it before putting bacon in them and setting fire to the book, while the other protester spoke into a megaphone .

Some in attendance shouted “God is great” in Arabic to protest the burning, and a man was detained by police after attempting to throw a stone. A supporter of the demonstration shouted ‘let it burn’ as the holy book caught fire.

It came after police approved a request to allow the man to continue the action, two weeks after a Swedish appeals court rejected a police ban on Quran burning protests that have sparked anger among Muslims in Sweden and across the country. abroad.

A series of demonstrations in Sweden against Islam and for Kurdish rights have offended Ankara, whose support Sweden needs to gain access to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization.

Who is Salwan Momika?

After months of trying, Salwan Momika got his wish and burned a Quran outside Stockholm’s main mosque.

In a recent newspaper interview, he described himself as an Iraqi refugee – who fled his homeland several years ago – seeking a ban on the Koran.

“I want to protest in front of the Grand Mosque in Stockholm, and I want to express my opinion on the Quran… I will tear up and burn the Quran,” 37-year-old Momika wrote in his application for the action.

Before the protest, Momika told TT news agency that he also wanted to emphasize the importance of freedom of expression.

He had previously applied to burn a Quran following a similar protest by far-right Danish political party politician Stram Kurs Rasmus Paludan in January.

His request was initially rejected, but in mid-June an appeals court ruled that the police had wrongly banned his protest and gave it the go-ahead.

After getting permission, he performed the stunt on Wednesday – timing for the first day of the Muslim three-day Eid al-Adha holiday.

Momika stomped on the Quran, stuffed strips of bacon into it, set pages on fire before slamming it shut and kicked it while waving Swedish flags.

According to Aftonbladet, Momika said he “doesn’t want my demonstration to be negative about Sweden’s request to join NATO.”

Sweden sought NATO membership after the Russian invasion of Ukraine last year. But Turkey – a Muslim-majority country – has said Sweden harbors members of what it considers terrorist groups – a charge Sweden denies – and has demanded their extradition as a step towards ratifying Sweden’s membership.

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan condemned the act in a tweet on Wednesday, writing: “I condemn the vile protest against our holy book in Sweden.”

In its permit for Wednesday’s demonstration, the police wrote that the demonstration “may have foreign policy implications,” but that the security risks and consequences of a Koran burning were not such that the application should be rejected.

Before the stunt, police said they expected only two people to participate, including the organizer, Momika, who described himself in a recent newspaper interview as an Iraqi refugee who wanted to ban the Quran.

It was feared the burning could spark unrest, with police saying they had called in reinforcements from across the country to keep order. Journalists said several police cars were already parked near the mosque on Wednesday morning.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson said on Wednesday that Sweden still wants to join NATO before or during the summit in Vilnius next month, although it was not certain whether it could by then.

He said at a press conference that he would not speculate on how the protest might affect Sweden’s NATO process. “It’s legal, but not appropriate,” he said, adding that it’s up to the police to make decisions about Quran burnings.

Wednesday is not the first time this year that a Quran has been burned during a public protest. In January, far-right Danish politician Stram Kurs Rasmus Paludan burned the religious book outside the Turkish embassy in Stockholm.

Police then banned two successive requests for protests involving Quran burnings – one by a private individual and one by an organization, outside the Turkish and Iraqi embassies in Stockholm in February.

The appeals court ruled in mid-June that police had wrongly banned it, saying that “the law and order and security problems” referred to by police had “no clear enough connection with the planned event or its immediate surroundings.”

The application for the Wednesday demonstration was made by the same private individual who had his earlier application blocked.

“I want to protest in front of the Grand Mosque in Stockholm, and I want to express my opinion on the Quran… I will tear up and burn the Quran,” 37-year-old Momika wrote in the application, a copy of which was obtained by news agency AFP.

According to Aftonbladet, Momika said he “doesn’t want my demonstration to be negative about Sweden’s request to join NATO.”

Paludan was not expected to participate in Wednesday’s demonstration.

Swedish politicians have criticized Koran burnings, but have also adamantly defended the right to freedom of expression.

Sweden has said that freedom of expression is firmly enshrined in its constitution and that it meets all the requirements set out in an agreement with Turkey and Finland signed in Madrid a year ago.

In addition to Turkey, several Arab countries, including Saudi Arabia, Jordan and Kuwait, also denounced the Quran burning in January.

Mosque representatives said they were disappointed by the police’s decision to authorize the protest on the Islamic holiday of Eid al-Adha, mosque director and imam Mahmoud Khalfi said on Wednesday.

“The mosque suggested to the police that they should at least divert the demonstration to another location, which is legally possible, but they chose not to,” Khalfi said in a statement.

According to Khalfi, up to 10,000 visitors visit the Stockholm mosque each year for the Eid celebrations.

Swedish and Turkish officials met on June 14 for what the Swedish chief negotiator described as good talks, and will hold another high-level meeting in Brussels hosted by NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg.

This meeting will be held before the Vilnius Summit.

Sweden and Finland have given up decades of military non-alignment after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine last year, seeking greater security by joining NATO.

Finland joined the alliance in April, but the process was slower for Sweden.

Sweden has set its sights on participating in the alliance summit on July 11-12, and although it has strong support from other members, including the United States, both Turkey and Hungary have so far held back ratification.

“Sweden will become a member of NATO,” Kristersson said in an interview with public broadcaster SVT.

“No one can promise that it will happen specifically in Vilnius or just before Vilnius, even though that has always been our ambition. And we also share that ambition with all other NATO countries.’
