Belle Gibson, the shameless con artist who lied about having cancer to promote her food app, has lashed out at reporters for telling them to 'have a little humanity'.

Gibson – the infamous Melbourne fraudster who concocted an elaborate lie that her terminal brain cancer could be cured by a healthy diet – was recently confronted by A Current Affair for failing to pay her huge fines.

Gibson was fined $410,000 by the Federal Court in 2017 for lying about cancer when promoting her Whole Pantry app and cookbook to the media.

It is believed that Gibson has yet to pay her debts, which rose to more than $500,000 due to interest when she failed to pay.

Besides briefly joining an Ethiopian diaspora group, Gibson has managed to stay out of the spotlight in recent years.

That is, until she recently bumped into Channel Nine's Sam Cucchiara at a gas station.

Gibson was refueling her Subaru Forester when she was ambushed by Cucchiara – in a segment expected to air on Monday night.

During the clip, Gibson can be seen wearing sunglasses and casual clothes as he greets the cameras and boom microphones with a smile.

The grin was quickly wiped off her face when she was asked when she would pay the fine as she got into her car.

Despite her history, you hear her tell the reporter that she “needs to have a little humanity.”

Then she cracked it: “That's it!”

Before her cheating was undone, Gibson boasted about how her healthy diet had cured her terminal cancer, claiming that she “gave up conventional treatment when it made my cancer more aggressive and started treating myself naturally.”

She also claimed to have helped others down the same path of unproven and unconventional treatments “countless times… for everything from fertility, depression, bone damage and other types of cancer.”

The Whole Pantry was downloaded more than 200,000 times in its first month, making it Apple's best food and drink app of 2013. It was a preloaded app on the Apple Watch at launch and landed Gibson a book deal.

According to facts from the 2017 federal court case, the scam made $440,000 over a three-year period.

Despite the lucrative business and awards, Gibson was virtually penniless by the time the case was decided.

A letter exclusively obtained from her to Victoria's Department of Justice at the time said she had just $5,000 to her name and was drowning under the weight of $170,000 in personal debt.

“As a result, I am unable to pay the amounts ordered by Judge Mortimer (the Federal Court judge presiding over her case),” her letter said.

She ended the letter with dated November 14, 2017, by asking the government to contact its accountant directly in the future, 'given my current health'.

Gibson's rented white-picket home in Melbourne's northern suburbs was raided twice by the sheriff in 2020 and 2021 in an attempt to recover her unpaid fines.

On the day of the raid in 2020, images emerged of Gibson wearing a headscarf and nicknamed 'Sanbontu' in an Ethiopian community in Melbourne.

She told a reporter from an African news channel that she had been adopted by the community after volunteering with them for more than four years.

This claim was dismissed just hours later by the Australian Oromo Community Association in Victoria's president, Tarekegn Chimdi.

Mr Chimidi said Gibson was 'not a member of the community nor does she work with the community', claiming she had only been seen a handful of times at events.

Belle, now 32, once claimed she had terminal brain cancer which was cured by simply eating healthy food – but it was later discovered she never had the disease.

Her shameless lie became a cause célèbre in Australia, and the story of ‘Healing Belle’ will soon be told around the world when the six-part drama starring Emmy-nominated actress Kaitlyn Dever hits screens.

In addition to having her sordid past dragged up, Belle has also been hit with another blow by seemingly parting ways with her partner and ‘housemate’ Clive Rothwell.

Gibson previously shared a rental property with Rothwell, who a source said acted as a ‘stepfather’ to her young son Oliver.

Rothwell paid most of the rent on the home they once shared, and even forked out the cash to take Gibson and her son on a month-long trip to Africa in 2019.

After Daily Mail Australia exposed her new connections to Melbourne’s Ethiopian set, a leading member of the community revealed she has now been frozen out forever.

Dr Tarekegn Chimdi, president of the Australian Oromo Community Association in Victoria,said: ‘She was was told not to come.

‘It was concerning when someone is using the community’s name who is not a member of that community,’ he continued.

‘She was coming across as more Oromo than Oromo people.’

He added: ‘She is not involved with us. She’s not coming to our place, no way, no time.

‘She is not involved in any fundraising for us. I have not seen her since that happened.’

However, other members of the Oromo community have thrown their support behind the fraudster. 

A Shabo Media spokesman said the Belle has ‘changed a lot’ and was ‘trying to move on’ from the scandal.

‘She’s part of the community, she’s into it – she’s trying to help out the community. We know what she’s done before.’

A two-year-old Staffordshire Bull Terrier, Belle, is believed to be one of the first dogs in the UK to ever be admitted to a hospital ward.

The smart dog was serves as a delivery partner for owner Amee Tomkin, 33, who has severe anxiety and ADHD.

Belle guided Amee through her fertility treatments, scans and midwife appointments throughout her pregnancy.

The dog was so well behaved that Milton Keynes University Hospital allowed her to support the nervous Amee in the maternity ward before she underwent a C-section in April.

Loyal dog Belle even waited for Amee when she came out of the theater and was the first to meet Olly, her newborn son, in April 2023.

Amee, from Milton Keynes, said: ‘Belle waited patiently in the hospital room when I went to the theater to have my baby.

“And when I was driven back, she was the first person Olly met – I couldn’t have done it without her.”

Since she was a little puppy, Belle has been trained by Amee as a service dog, helping her deal with her fears, autism and panic attacks.

And Amee said that it was clear from the start that Belle naturally stood by her.

For the past year and a half, the pup has accompanied Amee wherever she went — and when she fell pregnant with her son Olly after 12 years of fertility treatments, nothing changed.

She attended all of her pregnancy scans with her, where doctors decided a C-section would be better for Amee’s autism and anxiety because she would know exactly what was going on.

Amee said: ‘Belle can detect symptoms of a panic attack and, for example, helps me find exits from crowded places when she senses I’m feeling anxious.

The prospect of giving birth without Belle by her side worried Amee, so her midwife at Milton Keynes University Hospital asked if she could accompany her to the ward.

Once the green light was given, the doctors put the dog to sleep on Amee’s hospital bed.

Amee said, “She came with me to all my appointments during my pregnancy and kept me calm – I couldn’t have done it without her.”

She added: “As soon as she saw Olly, she gently sniffed him and gently licked his face to welcome him. Since then she has never left his side.”

She rested her nose gently on her stomach, near her navel.

Amee said, “It was like she was checking the baby’s heartbeat when I was pregnant.

“She even learned to tell the difference between the baby’s heartbeat and mine. It was such a reassurance.

“Belle was allowed to stay with me before I went to the theater and we got her own room so she could stay with me and the baby afterwards.

“As soon as she saw Olly, she gently sniffed him and gently licked his face. She’s never left his side since then.’

Milton Keynes University Hospital has been contacted for comment.

Jessica recently finished her run as Nora in A Doll’s House, a classic play written by Henrik Ibsen.

The latest iteration was adapted by Amy Herzog and directed by Jamie Lloyd.

The show closed on June 10, and the actress took to Instagram to share a note from the Stage Door.

On a yellow Post-It, a message was stuck to her backstage vanity on opening night of the show.

It read: ‘Happy opening, red! You’re opening many door for women to be seen and heard! 

‘We’re glad to open the stage door for this work. Crush it tonight!’

In the post, uploaded to her Instagram Stories, Chastain wrote, ‘Final show of @adollshousebway,’ with a row of black heart emoji. She added, ‘Will miss this so much!’

A Doll’s House is nominated for Best Play Revival and Jessica is nominated for Lead Actress in a Play.

This year’s ceremony has become the latest production to be impacted by the ongoing Writers Guild of America Strike. 

It marks the first time in 35 years that the Tonys has been afflicted by a strike.

Despite the challenges, the show will still go on.

The ceremony will air on CBS in an unscripted format, and the union has agreed not to picket the event. 

Broadway icon Lin-Manuel Miranda dropped out as writer of the opening segment in solidarity with the WGA.

Seasoned actress Ariana DeBose will be host this year’s event from the United Palace Theatre in Washington Heights.

Viewers will still be entertained with plenty of live performances from a variety of Tony-nominated musicals.

Some Like It Hot, the musical adaptation of the Marilyn Monroe film, is up for the most Tonys with a staggering 13 nominations.

It will battle it out for Best Musical against & Juliet, Kimberly Akimbo, New York, New York, and Shucked.
