No money, no electricity, no public boat service, but a strong sense of community – these are just some of the features of one of the most remote islands in the world, as revealed in a fascinating documentary.

YouTuber Lucas Korns look for Utupua, one of the most remote outcrops in the Santa Cruz Island chain, and it can only be reached by private boat.

In a video titled “I Visited the Island Capitalism Never Reached,” Luke begins his journey by flying to the capital of the Solomon Islands, Honiara.

From there he took a smaller plane to Nendo Island, where he met a man named John Mark, who was originally born in Utupua and wanted to return.

Since there is no public boat service to Utupua, it can be expensive to get there, but eventually Luke and John Mark band together to rent a small motorized vessel to make the journey.

John Mark explains that he ended up in Lata village in Nendo with his family for work and has been living there for four years.

However, he reveals to Luke that life was much simpler and more fun on Utupua, where no money is needed.

He says, ‘No [I’m] not really happy here in Lata. Once you get here, you have to use money. TThat becomes a frustration for me.’

Luke and John Mark manage to convince a local man to let them rent a boat from him.

They made sure the boat was loaded with enough gasoline, as fuel is nowhere to be found on Utupua.

Before they left, Luke tells viewers: “We had to make sure the weather was absolutely perfect that day because even in perfect weather you never know what can happen.”

John Mark also adds that the journey is “quite dangerous, but we must risk our lives now.”

Towards evening and after a day of travel, the duo finally reaches the shores of Utupua.

Images show islanders coming to greet them, while torches are lit to show them the way.

After getting off the boat, Luke had to ask permission from the head chefs and explain the purpose of his visit to gain access.

According to a 2019 census, Utupua has a population of about 1,000 and there are five villages.

Luke — who initially ventured into a community with about 200 people living there — explained that his goal was to capture a place that “not a lot of Americans talk about,” as a travel-oriented filmmaker.

Despite not being confident in his speech, the chiefs granted him entry and allowed him to stay overnight.

The enthusiastic traveler continues: ‘The next morning I felt, I think, as confused as everyone else.

‘It’s always difficult to break the ice in these kinds of circumstances, but I’ve learned that you just have to go for it.’

Luke discovered that all the villagers were dressed up because there was a religious festival in honor of the new bishop.

His visit was also cause for celebration.

After some singing and enthusiastic dancing, John Mark gave Luke a tour of his village.

The YouTuber discovered that there was no electricity, apart from solar lighting, and he discovered that “within the community here, no money is used at all.”

John Mark explains that in lieu of money, all households invite other members of the village to come and eat and “that’s the beauty of our community… it’s all about sharing.”

The villagers also help each other build shelters using natural resources. The next day John Mark took Luke to another village on the coast.

In the YouTube video, you can see locals excitedly running to the beach to greet them in traditional tribal clothing. From there, Luke checked off all the other villages on the island.

By talking to locals, he discovered that while they are happy to be one with nature, they would like more support from the government so that they can improve their healthcare and education facilities.

Luke says that because the island receives little outside support, islanders often refer to their homeland as “the forgotten island.”

A man Luke meets shows him how a book with a map of the region names all the other islands except Utupua.

In an effort to improve the lives of the people of Utupua, John Mark reveals that he has decided to run for the position of chief communications officer for the island.

He says: ‘TThe system is there, but sometimes part of the system does not address our problems, I am working on that. I have to take care of the people of Utupua and the voice of the people, this is this where I will stay and forever.’

John Mark concludes on a poignant note in which he explains why life on Utupua is so special: ‘The meaning of life is a sense of unity. People walk together, live together in peace, live with nature and the environment.

‘We eat with our hands, we swim in the sea and take care of each other. The meaning of life is about sharing.

‘Sharing what you have with the neediest people in the village and with the relatives and with everyone… one big family here… it’s very beautiful.’

A TikToker has revealed why she loves living on a canal in London – saying she couldn’t afford an apartment as nice as her boat.

Maisy Dewey, 24, originally from Savannah in Georgia, lives on a narrowboat on the River Thames with her fiancé Harry and Dalmatian Kipper.

Maisy says she never planned to live on a boat, but came across this one by accident while hunting after it was advertised as a ‘riverside’ property – and didn’t realize how literal the description was .

Her boat is permanently moored, meaning they are connected to the normal sewage system and can still access utilities such as electricity and Wi-Fi, while drawing water and gas from separate tanks.

Maisie gave a tour of her boat to her 25,000 TikTok followers in a videoshowing off her cheerfully decorated and spacious boat.

Speaking to the camera, she explained: ‘I’ll give you a tour of our boat while I tell you why we love living here. First of all, looking around, we wouldn’t be able to afford a regular apartment as nice as our boat.

‘We have a beautiful kitchen, we even have an extra room as an office/cloakroom and the boat is surprisingly spacious.

‘We lived in three other apartments with our dog Kipper before boarding our boat, and this is by far the most spacious place we’ve lived. We also have a lot of storage space.’

A narrowboat is a type of tour boat, specially built for the narrow waterways of Great Britain. Most are about six feet wide and semi-permanently moored or constantly cruising.

Maisy filmed the beautiful interior of the boat, which consists of a combined living and kitchen area, a guest room for an office and wardrobe space, a large double bedroom with extra storage and a bathroom.

The couple moved aboard in November and despite an ‘extremely draughty’ winter, they are generally loving boat life.

Maisy continues: ‘Apart from generally having a nice place to live, we love being on the quay and on the river. It’s just such a great atmosphere and our neighbors are so nice.

‘We’re still getting used to the boat lifestyle, but so far we’re enjoying life on board the boat and all the nice little quirks. I love waking up every night and going to bed on the river, it’s such a dream.”

She added that the boat, which they rent, is the only living space they’ve had that’s big enough for their dog Kipper to run around in.

The boat largely manages to remain stable due to its large size, but can become rocky in windy weather or at high tide.

It has a 50-gallon water tank in the back that provides enough water for the entire boat, and it refills when it becomes empty.

They also have a gas tank, which the landlord refills.

Maisy did not reveal the exact location of the boat or how much she is paying for the rent, but says it is cheaper than apartments she has rented in the past.

Her boat trip video has now been viewed 1.8 million times as people are intrigued by the idea of ​​boat life in the capital.

It comes amid a growing trend of people leaving their expensive London flats for a cheaper life on the water.

She made the move after feeling ‘trapped’ by the London property market, and previously shared a house with five other people for £800 a month.

Her rent is now the price of her bills, but she has also warned people that life on a boat is sometimes not as glamorous as it seems.

She spends around £3,000 a year on costs including driving licence, insurance and diesel, but admits she does ‘more cruising than most people in London’.

Emily added that any repairs are always more expensive than repairs to a house – and boaters are advised to always have £1,000 on hand in case of an emergency.

According to the Canal & River Trust, more than 34,000 boats navigate Britain’s 2,000-mile waterway.

This is the terrifying moment a tour boat crashed into an open-air tour boat in Miami earlier this month.

Twenty-nine passengers were injured, with one taken to hospital, as a result of the ‘horrific’ February 11 crash.

New footage of the collision, which took place around Fisherman’s Channel, shows the tour ship ‘Obelix’ speeding directly over the speedboat ‘Thriller’.

A group aboard the tour boat, which takes passengers on rides at speeds of 60 miles per hour, was visiting from New York, their attorney Thomas Graham. told NBC News.

Graham said his clients suffered broken bones, one lost consciousness and another suffered a traumatic brain injury. They are now seeking unspecified monetary damages.

The US Coast Guard confirmed that the Obelix was operating illegally without a permit.

“Both boats were simply not safe in this case,” Graham told NBC.

“They failed to keep a lookout, they failed to avoid a collision, they accelerated,” he explained.

Adding: ‘You can see from this video, which our client was fortunate enough to witness, that an extremely horrific collision occurred which, if safety was observed, was completely preventable.’

“When you go out on the water as a captain, especially if you take passengers for hire, you have to maintain a safe speed, look out and avoid collisions, and that didn’t happen here on either boat.”

Officials said they were deployed to the scene several kilometers from the seaport to pull survivors from the two boats to safety.

In total, more than 30 units responded to the crisis in the early afternoon, according to officials.

That response included an air rescue and several fire boats, along with U.S. Coast Guard and Florida Wildlife Commission vessels.

The patients were then taken back to shore several kilometers away from where the crash occurred, said Horacio Rodriguez, division chief of MDFR.
