King Charles has broken his silence on his cancer diagnosis and today expressed his 'sincere thanks' to the British public in a letter.

It was discovered by doctors when the 75-year-old monarch was being treated for an enlarged prostate and was announced on Monday, but his specific diagnosis remains unknown.

The royal has been living in Sandringham since leaving the London Clinic in the capital, where he stayed for three nights and left on January 29.

The letter, released today, features a distinctive red Sandringham House letterhead and is signed 'Charles R'.

It reads: 'I would like to express my sincere thanks for the many messages of support and good wishes I have received in recent days.

'As anyone affected by cancer will know, such kind thoughts are the greatest comfort and encouragement.

'It is equally encouraging to hear how sharing my own diagnosis has helped to promote public understanding and shine a light on the work of all those organizations supporting cancer patients and their families in the UK and the support the rest of the world.

'My lifelong admiration for their tireless care and dedication is all the greater as a result of my own personal experience.'

It is believed the King will also hold face-to-face meetings in London next week, despite his ongoing cancer treatment.

He will spend about a day in the capital as his travel is likely to overlap with his medical appointments.

But the king is well enough to hold a limited number of face-to-face meetings, sources say.

The letter comes after he was visited by his estranged son, Prince Harry, 39, following the shock announcement on Tuesday.

The Duke, 39, flew to London on Tuesday on a 10-hour British Airways commercial flight from Los Angeles to Heathrow, arriving at the royal residence at 2.42pm.

He then spent about 45 minutes talking to his father, believed to be their first real contact in 15 months.

It was their first formal in-person meeting since the funeral of the late Queen Elizabeth II in September 2022.

The father and son had a 'brief meeting' before the king and Camilla were driven to Buckingham Palace, where a helicopter waited to take them back to Sandringham.

Before his trip back to the United States, Harry was spotted in Heathrow's exclusive Windsor Suite as he prepared to fly back that afternoon.

It is believed the royal family has not seen his estranged brother and heir-apparent Prince William, or sister-in-law Kate.

Meanwhile, Meghan Markle was pictured smiling as she drove her Range Rover to her $14 million Montecito home just hours before Prince Harry returned home.

Harry is expected to return to Britain in May for a service at St Paul's Cathedral to mark the tenth anniversary of the Invictus Games.

The heir to the throne, 41, has taken care of some duties, but a source said William's priority is “supporting his wife and family.”

He organized an investiture ceremony in Windsor castle on Wednesday before attending the London's Air Ambulance charity gala dinner later that evening.

As he entered the room, the Prince of Wales said he 'very much appreciates everyone's kindness' as he spoke out for the first time since the shocking news about the King's health.

His wife, the Princess of Wales, 42, is recovering from abdominal surgery and is on extended leave.

Kate, 42, is on the mend and went on a half-term holiday at the Sandringham estate in Norfolk with her husband and their three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, Richard Eden reported.

A friend told Eden: 'Catherine is recovering well.

'She was looking forward to a change of scenery and will be able to take it easy in Norfolk while the kids let off some steam with William.'

The royal family was discharged from the London Clinic twelve days ago.

The heir to the throne has no further duties planned this week as he continues to put his wife and children first.

A source told the Daily Mail earlier this week: 'The prince has always made it clear that his priority for now is to support his wife and family – and he has not put a timetable on that.

“He'll be back at work on Wednesday, but you shouldn't expect to see him again for a while after that.”

It is clear that William has his father's '100 percent' support to return at his own pace.

A source said: 'The King adores Catherine and thinks she is doing a great job. He understands that family comes first.”

Queen Camilla also broke her silence on her husband's diagnosis in her first public appearance since the announcement.

The 76-year-old made a five-hour drive from her husband's side in Sandringham to Wiltshire after the local helipad was flooded.

She made the comments as she arrived at Salisbury Cathedral for a charity musical evening.

On Thursday, Ben Abbott, 40, an intensive care paramedic at Wiltshire Air Ambulance, said: 'I hope His Majesty is doing well, Ma'am, we are all very sad to hear the news.'

Camilla then replied: 'He is doing extremely well considering the circumstances.

'He has been very touched by all the letters and messages the public have sent from all over. That's very cheerful.'

They say fairytales are make-believe.

Grade I-listed Askham Hall hotel in the Lake District will leave you doubting this – it’s like a fantasy-fable house made real, with grand yet homely interiors, a kitchen garden straight from Middle-earth’s Shire and staff with welcomes warm enough for any Disney prince or princess.

I was there with my partner and young daughter following the hotel’s crowning as VisitEngland Small Hotel of the Year 2023.

Did it live up to the hype?

We fell in love with the jewel of a property a few steps beyond the entrance lobby, where awards for the 19-bedroom hotel and its Michelin-starred restaurant, Allium, form a guard of honour.

Ted Thornhill checked in to Grade I-listed Askham Hall hotel in the Lake District

We were warmly welcomed in the magnificent hallway and given a quick guided tour of the three majestic ground-floor guest lounges. Each room was regally lavish, big enough to house a small zoo – and I sensed that every nook and cranny had a story to tell.

This is a property that oozes history.

It lies above the river Lowther in the Eamont valley in the quaint village of Askham, a short drive from Ullswater and Penrith, five miles away.

It dates to around 1280. At this time, it was a peel tower, a fortified crenellated building that provided refuge from invasions by Picts and Scots, the hotel reveals.

Cumbria was volatile during these years.

In 1375, it was bought by the Sandford family, with Thomas Sandford turning it into an Elizabethan mansion in the 16th century with the addition of various wings.

In 1815, it was sold to William Lowther, 1st Earl of Lonsdale, and it has remained in the Lowther family ever since.

They lived in it from the 1930s until 2012, when it became a boutique hotel.

Prince Philip stayed at the house every year for 30 years, attending the annual Lowther Show week, sometimes with his wife in tow.

The Duke’s regular room was the Admiral’s Room.

We were in the Train Room, so named because the Lowther family kept their model railway in it.

It must have been some railway. We could almost fit our entire south London flat inside it.

The cavernous space was smothered in timber and comforting Burgundy-red hues and featured a thickly pillared super-king four-poster bed, a wood-burning stove, and a mezzanine with two single beds.

The bathroom was relatively small with nice farmhouse tiling, but I was surprised to see a cheap shower unit  installed. As Cecile Bell, the interior designer who oversaw my bathroom upgrade, said: ‘Spend big on the tiles, taps and shower unit. Those are the things that will spoil the look if they’re cheap.’

And she was right.

I’m not sure Cecile would approve of the slightly harsh faux-chandelier lighting, either.

We were back on track with the view, though, which was lovely. Essentially, you gaze through mullioned windows upon the menu for the Michelin-starred restaurant Allium, which prepares dishes using ingredients from the kitchen gardens and surrounding fields.

We ate there on night two – and it was utterly wonderful.

Proceedings began in one of the beautiful drawing rooms, where there’s an impressively stocked honesty bar, bookshelves lined with ancient tomes, epic oil paintings, dramatic exposed stonework and richly upholstered armchairs, arranged around a wood-burning stove.

As we gazed into the flames, gin and tonics in hand, enveloped in contentment, Frenchman Nico Chieze, the affable ‘Maitre de Maison’, arrived with delectable pre-dinner nibbles from head chef Richard Swale – one comprised mackerel tartar, cauliflower puree, dashi jelly and nori seaweed; the other was a delectable Montgomery cheese gougeres, with ‘mushroom ketchup’.

Nico also deployed the wine list, so enormous that at first I thought it was a book of spells. Or perhaps the Magna Carta.

The hefty tome – beautifully bound by master bookbinder Glenn Malkin, the introduction reveals – lists the restaurant’s sensational varietals, with the cellar stocking between 10,000 and 15,000 bottles, from a wine from 1893 to a £32,000 Vosne-Romanée Premier Cru by producer Henri Jayer.

There are plenty of enticing modest options, but feeling slightly daunted by the sheer length of the list, we opted for the £95 wine pairing.

Gin and tonics dispatched, we were warmly greeted for our tasting menu odyssey in the delightfully boutique-y dining room on the other side of the building, which overlooks a finely sculpted garden.

The kitchen is in the corner in a room within the room, encased by a thick stone wall, with mullion windows providing diners with a tantalising glimpse of Richard and his team rustling up what proves to be a culinary tour de force, with salute-worthy wines matched to perfection.

Food highlights included ravishing roasted Isle of Man scallops (with a heavenly smoked cod roe sauce); shorthorn beef tartare with truffled egg yolk; North Sea cod with a peppers emulsion and a mixed herb and anchovy sauce; and Whinfell partridge with a truffle sauce so tasty it was almost overwhelming – I had to put my fork down and try to process what my taste buds were experiencing.

There was no dip in standards for desserts.

A quince, fermented honey and creme fraiche creation presented with dinky little edible flowers on a honey tuile, however, perhaps had the edge, marginally, over the denouement – Richard’s sticky pudding tart with fig leaf cream.

Each course, meanwhile, was delivered with a soupcon of panache by waiting staff who clearly believe in the Askham mission, which I’m guessing is to send every guest home with a burning desire to come back at the earliest possible opportunity.

The sommelier was on board with this, too. She was very knowledgeable and confident, deftly answering questions and obviously proud of the pairing list.

Two of the reds, a French and an Italian, fell categorically into the knockout category – a rustic 2018 Domaine Marcel Lapierre Morgon and a beautifully fruity 2010 Lungarotti Rubesco Vigna Monticchio.

We also adored the Maury 1928 Solera from Roussillon in France. This sweet wine is made from old Grenache bush vines and was aptly described by the sommelier as ‘Christmas pudding in a glass’.

By the end of the meal the dining room was buzzing with banter, every table enjoying the offerings from this thoroughbred restaurant.

Any criticisms? Perhaps there was a longer wait between some courses than you might expect at a Michelin-star restaurant. But nothing beyond quibble territory.

When we weren’t swanning around Askham Hall pretending to be members of the nobility, we were exploring Askham village, which is awash with delightful Grade II-listed houses; roaming nearby Lowther Castle, a striking semi-ruin a 20-minute walk from Askham Hall with a jaw-dropping adventure playground (we spent hours there) – and ambling along the shoreline of eight-mile-long Ullswater as clouds embraced clusters of peaks in the distance.

It all felt so fantastical. And just for a weekend, we got to pretend we were living happily ever after there – and in some style.

A twill coat is perfect when it comes to beautiful winter clothing. There are tons of different styles, but they rarely come in bright and fun colors. This means that you often have to go for black or white. While they certainly work, sometimes you just don’t want to rely on the same old shades over and over again. You want to wear something more fun, light and with lots of color.

Timothee Chalamet looked dapper as he continued his press tour for Wonka after his girlfriend Kylie Jenner and her mother Kris appeared incognito at the LA premiere.

The 27-year-old actor showcased his style while heading to an interview at the Good Morning America studio in New York City on Tuesday.

Timothee wore a long, black checked, double-breasted coat over a charcoal gray turtleneck.

He added a bit of edge to a relatively stylish look as he wore baggy black leather jeans and buckle boots.

His signature long wavy brown locks were combed back and tucked behind his ear as he strutted his stuff along the sidewalks of the Big Apple.

Timothee didn’t forget his fans as he stopped for a few selfies before heading into the studio.

He appeared on the morning chat/news program with his 14-year-old co-star Calah Lane.

In a very sweet moment, the actor praised Calah’s natural talent as an actor, while also recognizing her mother.

Timothee was asked by Michael Strahan if he had given his younger co-star any advice, to which he replied: “Calah didn’t need my advice, she’s more of a natural at this than me and she has a great mother.”

The A-lister further pointed out that both his mother and Calah’s mother were there to support them.

The two even shared a hug while proudly looking at their children during the national interview.

Timothee and Calah star alongside Olivia Colman, who plays Mrs. Scrubbit stars, and Hugh Grant, who plays an Oompa Loompa.

During an interview with Fashion in May, Timothée opened up about taking on the role of Wonka in musical fantasy.

An airport worker has been fired after scrawling a swear word on a baby’s suitcase after the family checked in ‘late’.

Father Mario Lucas, 40, found the words ‘c*** stop checking in late’ written in a pen on his seven-month-old son’s bag as it went into the luggage hold.

The Cypriot saw the message after catching a flight home from Stansted Airport after visiting Britain to see family.

Mr Lucas, his wife Serena and their son had checked in for the Ryanair flight to Paphos, on the south-west coast of Cyprus, about 90 minutes before it was due to depart.

Although he said he didn’t check in two hours before takeoff as recommended, he has been later in the past and had no problems.

He said that no one at the counter and Stansted had made any comment to them and that ‘everything was fine’, the Sun reports.

The entrepreneur told the newspaper that he immediately saw his son’s suitcase on the baggage carousel and that his wife Serena “immediately noticed the writing.”

He said calling his young son the c-word is “rude and outrageous.”

The outraged father has said he wants airline Ryanair to replace the suitcase, which he claims was bought new in September.

Mr Lucas said he has complained to the budget airline, which has launched an investigation into Stansted-based baggage handling company ABM Blue Handling.

The company said the incident was “unacceptable” and was immediately investigated.

After compelling evidence came to light, the staff member responsible was fired, the baggage handling company said.

ABM Blue Handling told The Sun: ‘This unacceptable incident was reported by our own team that day, immediately investigated and following compelling evidence the individual involved was dismissed.

“Mr Lucas was contacted and an apology was issued. We have a zero-tolerance policy towards offensive behavior and would like to sincerely apologize to Mr Lucas.”

An obsessive ex-boyfriend ‘planted bugs’ in his ex’s home and checked them 302 times while she was on a date with her new partner before he ‘beat her to death’, a court has heard.

Sheldon Rodrigues, 30, is said to have spent most of his night shift listening to his former partner Stephanie Hansen, 39, as she enjoyed a passionate date with her new boyfriend, Celcso Cabillan, the night before she was murdered.

It was claimed that Rodrigues remotely accessed the devices on his phone and was caught on CCTV checking and rechecking his handset and headset while he was said to be working as a freight agent at Heathrow Airport.

One clip shows him accessing the small camera he had buried in the carpet on the landing of the house they still shared, the Old Bailey heard.

Rodrigues then allegedly returned home from work on his electric bicycle in the early hours and waited for Mr Cabillan to leave before stabbing and bludgeoning Ms Hansen to death, it was claimed.

He then set out to trap Mr Cabillan, jurors heard.

During his shift at work before the murder, Rodrigues – who denies the murder – was seen on CCTV touching his earphones, putting his finger to his ear or adjusting his earpiece.

The jury heard how he had one earbud in his ear while he attacked the other so he could listen in all the time.

PC Chris Hough told the court he made 302 movements with his phone or headphones.

“He took out one button to charge it and then switched,” the officer said.

“He had one button on the go, while the other was charging.

About the camera: ‘The camera may have been on the floor in the middle of the landing.’

On December 10, 2022, less than three weeks before Ms Hansen was murdered, Rodrigues was stopped by police for following her boyfriend Celcso Cabillan in a friend’s car.

Rodrigues – of Willenhall Drive, Hayes, west London – sat in the passenger seat of the car, with the friend driving and the driver’s children in the back of the car.

The driver and Rodrigues had waited until Mr Cabillan left work at Heathrow Airport before following him.

Mr Cabillan was so shocked that he called the police and gave them the registration number.

When police questioned Rodrigues, he said, “(We were) looking for a nice place to eat with the kids and that must have been a misunderstanding.”

Rodrigues and Ms Hansen both worked as freight agents at Heathrow and briefly dated in 2014.

The court heard how Rodrigues had become ‘obsessed’ with Ms Hansen and rejected the idea that they should be anything more than friends.

He then allegedly returned home from work at 6.49am to attack Ms Hansen, who was found naked from the waist down in her bloodstained pajamas.

The court heard the stabbing was so brutal that the knife slipped from his hand, seriously injuring Rodrigues. He was later seen on CCTV buying bandages for a cut he claimed he got from ‘doing some housework’.

Mr Cabillan had gone to the house when his messages to Ms Hansen went unanswered and he was seen banging on the door for half an hour before returning to his home in Feltham.

It was then claimed that Rodrigues spent more than 24 hours in the house with Ms Hansen’s lifeless body before calling an ambulance, in an attempt to pin the blame on Mr Cabillan.

Ms Hansen was found dead on December 31 last year.

In the call to the operator, Rodrigues said, “I just found my roommate’s body. I just went to her room. I found her dead there.

‘I think her boyfriend did something to her. He stayed here two nights ago. There’s also blood splattered all over the room.’

The process continues.

Princess Eugenie cut a stylish figure as she was spotted running errands with her husband Jack Brooksbank yesterday.

The royal, 33, braved the cold in London and wrapped up warm in a navy blue and green checked coat.

The mother-of-two wore her brown hair in a loose bun and wore a chic pair of gold hoop earrings.

Under her trendy winter coat, Eugenie wore a white patterned top and blue leggings.

Eugenie completed her off-duty look with a pair of baby blue sneakers and opted for minimal makeup for the excursion.

Meanwhile, Jack, 37, looked stylish in a khaki jacket with a brown cord collar, which he wore over a navy blue hoodie.

The father-of-two – who works in marketing and sales for financier Michael Meldman’s property development company – wore a black cap with the outline of a white heart.

Jack completed his ensemble with black slim-fit jeans and a pair of black and white Nike sneakers.

The couple crossed the road yesterday before joining the queue in London.

The parents – who married in October 2018 – confirmed the arrival of their second son Ernest in June. Eugenie and Jack welcomed their son August Philip Hawke in February 2021.

While Jack and Eugenie did their shopping, the Princess’ mother made her debut as co-host of This Morning yesterday.

During the recording, Sarah had spoken her words of wisdom to viewers who were struggling with problems in their love lives.

During the love and relationships segment, the Duchess acted as a suffering aunt, offering advice to two couples struggling with intimacy issues in their marriages.

And there was a common thread in Sarah’s responses, with the mum-of-two suggesting both callers rekindled the spark by livening things up in the bedroom.

“Put a nice, provocative underwear section in your dresser drawer and you really make the hair, you know, blow-dry the hair and take it out for a treat.”

“It’s the element of surprise and it will bring the magic back into your relationship,” Prince Andrew’s ex-wife continued.

Princess Eugenie’s appearance in London follows reports that the royal family had contacted Prince Harry in the hours before the queen’s death for more information about her condition.

The contact came as the Duke of Sussex raced against time to Balmoral Castle, where the Queen had been in residence, to try to get to her side before she died. Sadly, Her Majesty died before Harry arrived.

Scobie writes in his book that Eugenie, who is a close friend of the Sussexes and has maintained a relationship with them since their move to Montecito, wanted to know if he had more information about the queen’s condition than what had been shared with her. .

The biographer writes that Eugenie had heard it was “time” but didn’t have much more information, in a clip from Endgame shared with People magazine.

Kate Middleton showed off her style talents as she arrived in Scotland with Prince William today.

The Prince and Princess of Wales – known as the Duke and Duchess of Rothesay during their visit to Scotland – are visiting rural communities in Burghead, Moray and Inverness.

For the occasion, the mother-of-three, 41, wore a statement Burberry jacket, layered over a navy turtleneck and indigo kick flare jeans.

Kate’s diamond-stitched outerwear is made from wool-blend flannel, decorated with a seasonal check print.

The jacket is detailed with a contrast corduroy collar and nipped in waist, as well as the Burberry logo on the cuff.

Kate Middleton showed off her style skills when she arrived in Scotland

Mother-of-three Kate wore Reiss ankle boots while her hair was styled in voluminous waves.

The Burberry check has become synonymous with the British luxury heritage brand since its inception in the 1920s.

The checked print, designed by founder Thomas Burberry, is inspired by the tartan patterns used by Scottish clans.

It consisted of a camel, red, black and white color palette and wax registered as a trademark in 1924.

Over the years, Burberry has undergone numerous updates to its iconic check, ensuring it remains at the core of the brand’s aesthetic and cementing its status as one of the most universally recognizable patterns.

The princess oozed elegance as she stepped out of the car at the couple’s first stop at the charity Outfit Moray, which offers outdoor learning programs to young people.

Meanwhile, Prince William, also 41, looked sharp in a khaki jacket and navy trousers.

The couple’s visit today has three destinations: Outfit Moray, Brodieshill Farm and the DAY1 mentoring charity.

Outfit Moray offers young people from the area accessible and affordable outdoor learning workshops.

The aim of the work is to encourage the generation to get outdoors, help them develop life skills and improve their mental and physical health in the process.

The charity particularly helps children aged eight to 18 who are vulnerable or from disadvantaged backgrounds. Since its inception in 2003, Outside Moray has worked with over 16,000 young people.

Activities the charity involves young people in include mountain biking, paddle sports, rock climbing, archery and bushcraft.

It also runs a number of programs in local schools, such as bicycle training, bicycle maintenance and first aid.

Brodieshill Farm is a family business where Lower Speyside Young Farmers come together to meet the Royals.

Representatives from Farmstrong Scotland also talk to Their Royal Highnesses about how the organizations are supporting the mental wellbeing of young people in rural communities across Scotland – and local farmers in particular.

Lower Speyside Young Farmers is available for young people aged 14 to 29, providing opportunities for socialization and interaction in a sometimes isolating environment.

The group recently took part in the Are Ewe Okay campaign, run by the Scottish Association of Young Farmer Clubs, which encourages members to talk about mental health and break the stigma and taboo associated with it.

The couple’s third and final involvement of the day is with the Inverness charity DAY1, which provides mentoring, training, personal development and employability services to vulnerable young people.

The charity aims to equip its people with the social and emotional skills to succeed in life through mentoring and personal development programmes. This allows participants to build self-reliance and self-confidence, allowing them to clearly identify their personal interests.

The charity also owns and manages the social enterprise Inverness Kart Raceway, which serves as the location for its Automotive Skills apprenticeship programme.

Beginning in December, Google will begin deleting accounts that haven’t been used in at least two years as part of an effort to address security threats, the company said Tuesday.

Deleting old accounts doesn’t just mean losing access to Gmail. Work in Google Docs, Google Workspace, Google Photos, and other Google products will also be wiped, as will any videos an affected user has uploaded to YouTube.

Ruth Kricheli, the company’s vice president of product management, said in a statement announcing the new policy that the move was intended to protect users from security threats, as accounts that had been idle for a while were more likely to be used.

An internal analysis at Google found that abandoned accounts were much less likely than active accounts to have two-factor authentication, an authentication method that helps confirm a user’s identity, the company said.

“These accounts are often vulnerable,” Ms. Kricheli said, “and once an account is compromised, it can be used for anything from identity theft to a vector for unwanted or even malicious content, such as spam.”

The policy went into effect on Tuesday, but the company said it wouldn’t start deleting unused accounts until December at the earliest. Google said it would begin cleaning accounts that were set up but never used.

Before deleting an account, Google said it would deliver several notifications to users via Gmail and any backup email addresses provided.

Ms Kricheli said the plan to scrap inactive Google accounts would only apply to personal accounts and would not affect organizations such as schools or businesses that use Gmail and other Google services.

Google users who haven’t used their account in at least two years and don’t want their account deleted can keep it active by simply logging into Gmail or any other Google service, such as Google Drive, YouTube, or Google Search, or by downloading any app from the Google Play Store.

The company said anyone with an existing subscription that was set up with a Google account, such as one associated with a newscast, would be considered an active user and their account and would not be deleted.
