An American travel influencer has been criticized for promoting a ‘slum tour’ during her visit to India.

Tara Katims, 24, originally from the US but recently moved to Mexico, posted a video advising her followers on the best way to spend 72 hours in Mumbai.

The full-time solo traveler documented her activities on her TikTok account @tarkatims, which included a pilates class, clubbing and a cooking class, as well as a “tour of the slums of Dharavi.”

Tara said she is ‘so happy’ to have gone on tour despite being ‘so nervous’ – but she is being criticized online for turning others’ ‘poverty’ into her own ‘tourism’.

Recommends the two-hour tour to her fans in a video, Tara said: ‘I’m not going to lie, I was so nervous going into this experience, but I’m so glad I did. If you’re the kind of person who likes to stay in touristy places when they travel, then this probably isn’t for you.

‘I saw this advertisement on Airbnb for a tour given by a man who has lived in the slums himself.

‘His motivation in starting these tours was to help break the stigma associated with growing up in the slums. People can be denied jobs after growing up in the slums, and much more.

‘The tour takes you through the different industries in the slums and you see daily life there and the NGOs and organizations that go there to help.

“It’s easy to come to India and only see the beautiful parts, but the reality is that this is how most people in Mumbai live.”

But despite saying she would ’10/10 recommend’ the tour, Tara was slammed online by those shocked that she was promoting the tour to her 15,000 followers.

One social media user wrote: ‘“Slum tour” girl, hey people live here – poverty is not tourism, it’s not your place to be entertained – instead of posting a “slum tour” maybe you could promote a charity that helps them.’

A second added: ‘Definitely not how “most” people live in Mumbai. This is a big slum, but only a small part of Mumbai. At least try to be accurate.’

A third said: ‘I understand the intention behind this video but calling it a slum tour puts the whole idea in a really bad taste,’ while another commented: ‘Using the SLUMS world tour will NOT help reduce the stigma breaking through.’

However, some people quickly rushed to Tara’s defense, with one saying: ‘How insensitive is she? It literally says ‘Dharavi Slums Tour’, she didn’t make up the name.”

The ‘Dharavi Slums Tour’ is advertised on Airbnb as a two-hour experience organized by Jitrenda, who grew up in Mumbai.

It costs £6 per person and has an average rating of 4.98 stars from 300 reviews – aiming to ‘dispel the negative image of the slum and spend some of the profits from the tour on social activities’, according to the listing on Airbnb.

The Dharavi residential area is considered one of the largest ‘slums’ in the world, with around a million inhabitants, and was used as the setting in the Oscar-winning British film Slumdog Millionaire.

Search results for such tours return hundreds of results, including listings on the likes of TripAdvisor and Airbnb.

In 2019, The Telegraph reported that tours of the area had become India’s ‘most popular’ tourist attraction, despite controversy over the ethics of participation.

‘Slums’ are areas of densely packed housing and are often associated with poverty.

However, many no longer use the word ‘slum’ due to its derogatory associations and negative connotations.

Some say the use of the word slum is an attempt to delegitimize land by repurposing it.

The UN defines slums as: ‘Individuals living under the same roof and lacking one or more of the following conditions: access to improved water, access to improved sanitation, adequate living space, sustainability of housing and security of tenure.’

Tara has traveled the world and posted videos of her trips to Mexico City, Nepal, India and Egypt, among others.

She previously revealed that she would never visit Egypt alone as a female traveler because she was harassed in Cairo.

People have criticized a self-styled ‘rich man’ for his bizarre behavior after choosing to park his £130,000 4×4 in the disabled area of a supermarket.

Luke Desmaris, 28, posted a video to his account on TikTok of himself parking the large Mercedes car in what appeared to be a Sainsbury’s car park.

Explaining his reasoning behind this, Mr Desmaris lashed out at disabled people, claiming he would finish shopping before 100 people arriving in need of disabled parking.

He said: ‘I’m a very fast person and I need to be close to the shops to save time.

‘Time is money and within the two minutes I’m in the store, a hundred disabled people don’t show up. That’s why I park in a handicapped parking spot.’

Luke Desmaris, 28, posted a video of him parking the large Mercedes vehicle in what appeared to be a Sainsbury’s car park to his account on TikTok

Responding to the video, other users quickly found a flaw in his supposed logic, as they pointed out that if he wanted to save time by being closer to the storefront, he could park outside a handicapped parking spot and be closer to the entrance.

One user replied: ‘There are spaces closer to the shop doors though’.

A disabled person added: ‘It’s not two minutes, it’s a disability section, I’m disabled and people like you are fit and healthy to walk a mile to the shops.’

Another pointed out that he simply “had no right to park there.”

A fourth also questioned why he was demonstrating the video in a seemingly empty parking lot, without any activity or the sight of other customers around him.

They wrote: ‘You better explain why it’s in an empty Sainsbury’s car park.’

It comes after Luke was filmed by a friend driving his £130,000 Mercedes G Wagon into an empty bus lane to avoid a line of cars in traffic.

The cost of fines for driving in bus lanes varies from country to country.

Within Greater London you may be charged up to £160, or £80 if you pay within 14 days, while in other parts of the country this can cost up to £60.

In the video, the online trader – who left school in sixth grade – said: ‘For poor people this is a bus lane. For rich people it is a VIP job to avoid traffic. We are not concerned about the fines.’

Desmaris was harassed by fellow drivers who were outraged by his actions.

Charlie Francis said angrily: ‘Police and ambulance use these lanes to respond to emergencies.’

Nick Chorlton said: ‘So if everyone was rich it’s just another blocked lane.

“Typically a hole in the sky, just because you can afford to do something doesn’t mean you should.”

Another person said: ‘Bit sad. Clearly think you are above everyone else.”

One added: “Do you care if you lose your driver’s license.”

A couple has been criticized after they decided to charge their wedding guests to attend the big day as they would rather save $10,000 for home improvements.

The debacle was shared on Reddit’s Wedding Shaming thread with a after slamming an American couple for charging each guest a whopping $150 to attend.

In the original Facebook post, the wedding shamer wrote, “Bride wants guests to pay for their meal because *checks notes* they’re not rich, plus some extra,” has received just under 600 votes.

The Reddit community was quick to respond to the bride and groom’s antics, with people suggesting they decline the invite.

This anonymous bride, believed to be based in the US, was slammed when her post surfaced on Reddit, on their Wedding Shaming thread

The message originally shared by the poster on Facebook read: “We will be asking our guests to pay for their seats, which amounts to $150+ per person.”

She then gave reasons for her bold decision, citing limited financial resources and “earning the wedding of her dreams,” which sent the folks at Reddit into an uproar.

The bride continued: ‘[We] prefer to spend money on improving our home and paying off our home.

“We have everything we need and don’t need any gifts, and all we care about is that the food is high quality and that we have a beautiful wedding.”

She added that she hopes her loved ones will “understand and respect” her choice, adding: “We know so many people and want our friends and family to be there and enjoy this unique event with us.

“Besides, both of us, especially me as a bride, absolutely deserve the wedding of our dreams.”

The Redditor who shared the post revealed that “three of her bridesmaids backed out and joked that it was for an ‘unknown’ reason.”

The second screenshot instructed wedding guests to respond as quickly as possible, but also asked them to forward the money needed for food at the reception.

Redditors were outraged by the bride-to-be’s brazenness, with one saying: ‘Yes, she deserves to have the wedding of her dreams where no one shows up.

Another joked: ‘If you can’t afford your dream wedding you literally don’t deserve it. It’s a celebration, not a birthright.”

And one even suggested that ‘this is when you turn down an invite’, while others were shocked that some were supporting her in the other images shared in the post.

‘When you read those supportive comments, it’s like being in an alternate universe. Yes’.

First of all, her cut into pieces some pink pool noodles and taped them to the wall, with funnels at the top – so her daughter could pour water through them.

Then she cut another noodle into even smaller pieces and wrote a letter on it so her little girl could make words with it.

Micah then used toothpicks to connect some smaller pieces of pool noodles together to create a scientific-looking creation.

She added pink sparklers to the water, as well as a crab with a bell coming out of its mouth and several smaller bath toys thrown in.

She placed an ice cream-shaped bath bomb on the side for her daughter to throw in, and added a swimming penguin to the tub.

Micah completed the setup by adding floating LED lights in the tub and a disco ball light on the cabinet.

She then showed what the bath looked like when it was finished, and what it looked like when the lights were off.

Over her video, Micah wrote: “POV: You are a mother who loves to create magical moments.”

The comments section was almost immediately filled with people having their opinions on Micah’s creation. Some loved it, while others weren’t so excited about it.

“Too much for one bath!” one raged.

‘Mommy, please don’t ever do this again,’ people warn as mom dresses BABY daughter in ‘Lil-boutin heels’ from Amazon

“Spoiled,” said another.

A third agreed, writing: “Way too much for a bath lol!”

“This is exaggerated,” someone else commented.

“No bath bombs, electric too close and no to toothpicks!!!!” said another, pointing out the safety concerns.

“VERY confused by this,” someone else said.

However, others insisted the bath was incredible.

“She will love it!! Omg,” one person wrote.

To which Micah replied, “She sat in the bath for an hour and refused to get out!”

“That’s cool,” another added.

“This would be magical,” said a third.

As someone else wrote: “Wow!! This is extraordinary!

“I love your imagination for your daughter.”

The latest edition of Wetherspoon’s food menu has been criticized for being ‘incredibly boring’ and ’embarrassing’.

The pub chain introduced Bao Buns as part of its affordable Small Plates range, described as ‘traditional Asian steamed buns with spicy crispy chicken’.

Reddit user u/Yougotsnail posted image of their ‘pathetic’ serving of bao buns on the subreddit r/CasualUK, which has since received more than 220 comments and 1,500 votes from amused regulars who poked fun at the concoction.

The hungry guest at an unnamed Wetherspoons branch seemed distressed, but not entirely horrified, by the sandwiches, with the caption: ‘I didn’t even get coriander or chilli! Only one piece of onion! Nice.’

The photo shows a rather pale pair of steamed bao buns placed side by side in a basket.

Each bun is split open to reveal a strip of crispy fried chicken, sitting on dollops of Japanese katsu curry sauce.

Most alarming, however, as many Redditors noted, is the single measly piece of red onion placed beneath the chicken pieces – leaving many to wonder why chefs had bothered to include this in the meal in the first place.

Commenting on the photo, someone wrote: ‘Just the single strip of red onion in one, and f*** all of it in the other.

‘It’s that attention to things that makes me wonder what actually happens in the kitchen.’

Another surprised person joked: ‘F*****g, that’s depressing. A goujon in a cardboard fold,” while a third wrote: “I think that lone piece of onion may have been lost on the way to an even less tasty meal.”

One Brit joked: ‘This is why the rest of the world thinks we have no taste and that mayonnaise is spicy.’

Meanwhile, two people of Asian descent took umbrage at the outcome of Wetherspoons’ Chinese-inspired offering.

One said: “People in Asia are crying at this photo, so am I,” while another joked: “As a person of Chinese descent, I don’t want to have eyes right now.”

In other news, two avid Wetherspoons fans decided to sample what each branch has to offer – and embarked on a mission to visit every branch in Britain.

Alan and Agnes Forbes, 63 and 46, successfully completed their mission after visiting all of the chain’s 900 locations across the country in eight years.

The couple became addicted to finding Wetherspoons pubs wherever they went to view the beautiful architecture of many of the buildings, with the highest number of branches visited in one day being eight.

But according to the couple, it is the carpets that have a ‘huge appeal’, with each spoon having an individually designed pattern to suit the building, environment or person the pub is named after.

Each bespoke carpet is handmade on a traditional loom by Devon-based luxury carpet manufacturer Axminster Carpets and costs up to £30,000.

A Federal Aviation Administration report released Monday found shortcomings in Boeing’s safety culture, noting that the aircraft manufacturer had made some improvements since two fatal crashes involving the 737 Max 8 plane in 2018 and 2019.

The report, written by a group of experts that met a year ago at the behest of Congress, found that there was a “disconnect” between senior management and other employees at Boeing. The panel found that the company was at times “inadequate and confusing” in the way it implemented its safety culture.

In a statement, the FAA said it would “immediately begin a thorough review of the report” and take action on the recommendations as appropriate.

“We will continue to hold Boeing to the highest safety standards and will ensure the company fully implements these recommendations,” the agency said.

Boeing said in a statement that it supported the panel’s assessment and has taken “important steps” to improve its safety culture, although it acknowledged that “there is still more work to be done.”

New concerns about the company’s safety culture arose last month after a panel blew open on a Boeing 737 Max 9 plane during an Alaska Airlines flight. The new FAA report does not reference that incident, but the National Transportation Safety Board has said the panel, known as a door plug, on the Alaska plane appears to be missing crucial bolts to hold it in place.

The FAA panel made 53 recommendations, based on a review of thousands of pages of Boeing documents and more than 250 interviews. The recommendations include urging Boeing to better communicate and define the language it uses in strengthening safety and to do more to reassure employees that their anonymity will be protected when they report concerns or problems.

Internally, Boeing has encouraged employees to be proactive in protecting safety and other principles the company values, urging them to “Seek, Speak and Listen.” But the panel found that ‘little or no attention had been paid to searching or listening’.

A bride-to-be has sparked heated debate online after adding a ‘tacky’ detail to her wedding invitations.

Earlier this month, one of the bride’s guests posted a screenshot of the divisive invitation to the Facebook group That’s It, I’m Wedding Shaming.

After laying out the order of service for the day and the dress code, the US couple asked their guests to cover the cost of their meal at the reception.

It read: ‘In lieu of traditional wedding gifts, we kindly request that you contribute towards the costs of our reception buffet.

“It allows us to share a delicious meal together and create lasting memories with our loved ones.”

Pictured: The wedding invitation that divided members of the That’s It, I’m Wedding Shaming Facebook group

The bride then explained how adults are expected to pay $40 [£31] while children under 12 will be charged $20 [£15].

In addition, the couple requests the contributions prior to the wedding and includes their bank details on the invitation.

The invitation continued: “To facilitate the planning process, we kindly ask that you include your contribution when you register.

“This will help us provide accurate numbers to our venue and ensure a seamless experience for everyone.”

They concluded by writing, “Your presence at our wedding is the most meaningful gift we could ask for and we are truly grateful for your love and support as we begin this new chapter of our lives together.”

The guest invited other members of the Facebook group to comment on the invitation and captioned their post: “No, no, no, no, no and no.”

The invitation sparked a series of reactions in the group, with some labeling the couple’s approach as ‘weird’.

One replied: ‘If you can’t afford a wedding, don’t have a wedding.’

“It’s so tacky,” another added. ‘It’s not about the amount, it’s about asking people to come to your wedding and help pay – that’s strange.’

A third said: ‘If you’re on a budget, don’t have a big wedding, or write ‘no boxed gifts’ on the invite, as is standard practice.

“Most people know it’s a code for ‘cash or checks only, please.’

However, others were quick to defend the couple and insisted this would be a normal practice.

Mrs. WebMarvel’s latest superhero movie and a Spider-Man spin-off, debuted in February 2024 to overwhelmingly negative reviews. Its 13 percent Rotten Tomatoes score and 26/100 Metacritic score were bad enough, but the film’s star Dakota Johnson‘s own comments about the film’s press tour didn’t exactly help matters.

Asked if she could name the three Tom Holland Spider-Man movies, she replied (between giggles) with “Spider-Man: Here He Comes,” “Spider-Man: And He’s Back” and “The Goblet of Spider-Man.” They are all clearly false.

She didn’t stop there as she continued one of the most entertaining press tours we’ve ever seen. Johnson later said that she had seen exactly 4 percent of all Marvel films and that she could win an Oscar for her drive-in stunt Mrs. Web (spoiler: she didn’t do the stunt driving), and how she constantly tries to get her friend arrested.

Oh, and she has no plans to actually see the movie she was promoting.

To be fair, that’s typically Johnson’s policy for all her films. She calls it a way of self-care.

“For me it’s a way not to end up in an existential crisis,” says de Fifty Shades of grey the star said in an interview with Magic FM. “Not watching my movies is like self-care.”

She later added, “I don’t know when I’ll see it.”

Johnson hasn’t called at all Mrs. Web another flop, but that’s clear. The numbers and reviews say it all. While we wait for her next viral moment, keep scrolling to see how other actors responded to their biggest box office bombs.

“You know what? I think it was a little bit overwhelming,” the EGOT winner said of the critically devastating, star-studded adaptation of Andrew Lloyd Webber‘s Broadway musical. “It’s a shame it was misunderstood. I think people will see it differently later. But it’s something I’m still very proud of and grateful to have been a part of.”

Rooney Mara: Pan (2015)

Sometimes the criticism goes further than the quality of the film. Critics were furious Pan (on Peter Pan et al.) for casting Mara, who is of European descent, to play the Native American character Tiger Lily. In retrospect, Mara understands why people were angry.

“I really hate, hate, hate that I’m on that side of the money laundering conversation. Really,” she said. “I never want to be on that side again. I can understand why people were angry and frustrated. …Do I think all four of the main people in the movie should have been white, with blonde hair and blue eyes? No. I think there should have been some diversity somewhere.”

Ryan Reynolds: Green Lantern (2011)

“There were just too many people giving too much money and if there was a problem, instead of saying, ‘Okay, let’s stop spending on special effects and let’s think about [the] character,” he said at the Just for Laughs comedy festival in 2023. “That’s just never… the thought was never there to do that. … It wasn’t a feeling I wanted to repeat. So I really took ownership as much as I could over the next few years, it was the only way to kind of process it.

George Clooney: Batman and Robin (1997)

Clooney famously played Batman for just one film. “Let me just say that I actually thought I had destroyed the franchise until someone else brought it back years later and changed it,” he said during an appearance on The Graham Norton Show. “I thought at the time that this would be a very good career move. It wasn’t that.”

Kumail Nanjiani: Eternals (2021)

Negative reviews can damage any actor’s ego, and Nanjiani admitted Michael Rosenbaum‘s “Inside of You” podcast which is Marvel’s response Eternals – for which he famously transformed his body with a personal trainer – led him to seek therapy.

“It was very difficult, and at the time I thought it was unfair to me and unfair to me [my wife] Emily, and I can’t approach my work this way anymore. Some [thing] needs to change, so I started counseling. I still talk about that with my therapist.”

Tom Hanks: The bonfire of vanities (1990)

“One of the crappiest movies ever made,” he said of the movie it was based on Tom Wolfe‘s classic novel. “And yet, if I hadn’t gone through that experience, I would have lost something valuable. … Bonfire taught me that I couldn’t make a core connection. … When I played Sherman McCoy, people stopped me on the street to say, ‘You’re not Sherman McCoy.’ I was like, ‘Oh, yeah?’ I went against everything about the character and even the screenplay, but I kept telling myself, ‘No, no, no – there’s a way I can get into this.’

Halle Berry: Cat lady (2004)

Berry appeared at the Razzies to personally accept her Worst Actress award Cat lady (a standalone DC Comics film about Batman’s nemesis) and used her acceptance speech to criticize everyone involved with the film.

“First of all, I would like to thank Warner Bros. thank you for putting me in a terrible movie. It was exactly what my career needed! I was at the top, and then Cat lady just plunged me to the bottom. Love it! It’s hard to be on top. It’s much better to be at the bottom,” she said. “I want to thank my manager Vincent Cirrincione. This man loves me. …He loves me so much that he convinces me to do projects even when he knows they’re no good! That’s how much he really loves me. My only advice to you… is that next time I make a movie, if I get a chance to make another movie, maybe you should read the script. … Just counting the zeros after the ones is really not enough. You really need to read the script. I love you husband. Love you.”

Jamie Lee Curtis: Virus (1999)

“That would be the latest piece of s–t. … It’s just terrible,” she told IGN about the box office flop based on the comic book of the same name. “That’s the only good reason to be in bad movies. Then when your friends have done that [bad] movies that make you say, “Ahhhh, I have the best.” I bring Virus.”

But if the response to Gigli If that hadn’t happened, I probably wouldn’t have ultimately decided, “I really have no other option but to direct films,” which has turned out to be the real love of my professional life. So in that respect it’s a gift. And I got to know Jennifer, with whom the relationship has been very meaningful to me in my life.”

Charlize Theron: Reindeer games (2000)

“That was a bad, bad, bad movie,” she said Esquire in 2007. “But even though the movie might have been bad, I went with it Johannes Frankenheimer. I didn’t lie to myself – that’s why I did it.”

Jennifer Lawrence: Mother! (2017)

“It’s amazing what we’ve done – some people hate it and the people who hate it really hate it,” she said Variety of the divisive film directed by then-boyfriend Darren Aronofsky. “But it’s nothing that needs to be defended and when I read a negative review I just feel defensive.”

She was recently forced to defend her bold new look after she debuted a choppy, rock star-inspired hairstyle on Instagram.

And Julie Bishop had the last laugh on Monday as she defiantly showed off her new style during a glamorous appearance on the Today show.

The former foreign minister, 67, spoke to hosts Karl Stefanovic and Sarah Abo about the latest news, dazzling in an animal print shirt dress that perfectly matched her wild new hairstyle.

The blonde, who is affectionately known as the Minister of Fashion, also dished out some fashion advice and advised viewers on the benefits of investing in quality garments.

“This season we're focusing squarely on inner investment pieces,” says Julie, ambassador for retail giant David Jones.

It comes two weeks after Julie clapped back at critics of her new mane.

Earlier this month, Julie uploaded a photo of herself dining at Chiswick restaurant in Sydney's Woollahra with two friends.
