I spoke with Nate Cohn, The New York Times’ chief political analyst, about when Trump’s nomination could become a lock. (On the Democratic side, neither of Biden’s main opponents — Dean Phillips or Marianne Williamson — has won a single delegate or appears poised to do so, so there’s no real math to do there.)

Nate, what are the basics of delegation math?

The basics are simple: A candidate must win a majority of the 2,429 delegates to the Republican National Convention to become the party’s nominee. These delegates are usually awarded on a state-by-state basis, based on the results of the primaries and caucus.

The complicated part is that Republican rules allow states to decide how to reward their delegates, and they take very different approaches — from awarding them proportionately based on a candidate’s share of votes to allowing one candidate each delegate receives if he wins statewide.

Could Trump clinch the nomination on Super Tuesday?

It’s close, but the answer is no! By the end of Super Tuesday, just under half of the Republican convention delegates will have been awarded, so it’s not technically possible for any candidate to win a majority by then. For the record, Nikki Haley and Ron DeSantis won enough delegates in Iowa, New Hampshire and other early states to prevent Trump from winning even if he won every Super Tuesday state.

What are the possible scenarios coming out of Super Tuesday?

If the polls are right, there is really only one scenario: Trump is within striking distance of the nomination.

Right now, national polls show him with almost 80 percent of the vote, which would give him the most delegates regardless of the exact state-by-state rules. Better yet for him, many states — including California — award all their delegates to the winner if that person gets more than 50 percent of the vote, as Trump is expected to do. There are a few Super Tuesday states that award their delegates proportionately, but he would still win almost all the delegates if he does as well as the polls suggest.

Add that up and Trump could easily win more than 90 percent of the available delegates on Super Tuesday.

How quickly could he secure the nomination, and what would need to be done?

Mathematically, the soonest possible date is March 12, when Georgia, Hawaii, Mississippi and Washington will vote.

That would be difficult to achieve, but given how well he’s doing in the polls, it’s hard to rule out without a very detailed analysis. If Haley fails to get 20 percent of the vote, she might not even receive delegates in states where the rules make it relatively easy for her to do so.

If he doesn’t succeed, when will he?

More realistically, Trump would emerge victorious on March 19, when Arizona, Florida, Illinois, Kansas and Ohio cast their votes.

Trump says little about Gaza

In the nearly five months since Hamas terrorists invaded Israel on October 7, Donald Trump has said remarkably little on the subject.

He criticized Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of Israel before quickly retreating to more standard expressions of support for the country. And he has blatantly claimed that the invasion would never have happened if he had been president. But his overall approach was laissez-faire.

“So there’s a war going on, and you’re probably going to have to let it play out. You’re probably going to have to let it happen because a lot of people are dying,” Trump said in a speech interview with Univision a month after the attack. His main advice to Netanyahu and the Israelis, he said at the time, was to do a better job at “public relations,” because the Palestinians “beat them at public relations.”

Trump’s hands-off approach to the bloody conflict in the Middle East reflects the profound anti-interventionist shift he has brought about within the Republican Party over the past eight years and is colored by his feelings about Netanyahu, who he may never forgive for congratulating President Biden on his 2020 victory.

Trump’s initial instinct in the days immediately following the greatest single-day loss of Jewish life since the Holocaust was to use Israel’s national trauma to settle his score with Netanyahu.

On October 11, Trump publicly attributed Hamas’s invasion to Netanyahu’s lack of preparation, praising the Lebanese militant group Hezbollah as “very smart.”

Trump has not made any substantive criticism of Biden’s response to Hamas’ invasion and Israel’s retaliation in Gaza. Instead, he has placed the blame for the entire crisis on Biden’s “weakness,” as he often does when there is violence or tragedy.

“You would never have had the problem you just had, the terrible problem of Israel on October 7, where Israel was so terribly attacked,” the former president told a crowd in Rock Hill, S.C., on February 23.

It is unimaginable that in a pre-Trump Republican Party, the standard-bearer would have had so little say in a major terrorist attack on Israel and a widening regional conflict in the middle of a presidential campaign.

“This is one of America’s closest allies under attack. And it’s mind-boggling that you’ve heard so little from Trump in such circumstances,” said John Bolton, a former national security adviser to Trump who became a sharp critic of his and who has long been aggressive in his support of Israel.

Yet people close to Trump, who is leading Biden in the polls, sense little or no urgency for him to put forward more detailed foreign policy plans — on Israel or any other issue.

Trump has also enthusiastically consumed news about young progressives turning against Biden over Israel. And his campaign and his allies plan to exploit those divisions to their advantage.

One idea being discussed among Trump allies as a way to drive the Palestinian wedge deeper into the Democratic Party is to place ads in heavily Muslim areas of Michigan that would thank Biden for “supporting Israel,” according to two people informed about the plans who were not authorized to discuss them publicly.

People from Generation Z have reported that they now go to bed at 9 p.m. so they can get nine hours of sleep.

A New York City bar has also hopped on the late-night trend, as they recently had an 8:00 PM countdown on New Year's Eve so drinkers could be in bed by 11:00 PM.

Those between the ages of 18 and 35 have said they have noticed a direct link between sleep and overall health when they get the right amount of sleep at night.

Emma Kraft, 19, and Madelyn Sugg, 25, have both continued to adopt nighttime routines and found it has benefited their lives.

Joyface, a bar in the East Village, has decided to capitalize on the growing trend and has previously hosted dance parties and “matinees.”

“Suddenly it's so much cooler and much more accepted to sleep early, and everyone has just adapted,” Kraft said.

The Wall Street Journal reported that an analysis of Sleep Number smart-bed customers found that people aged 18 to 34 went to sleep at an average of 10:06pm in January this year. Last year they went to bed at 10:18 p.m.

Kraft, a junior at the University of California, Berkley, said that even when she slept in a crowded dorm full of 65 other women during her sophomore year, she still made sure she slept.

“For me, nothing good happens after 9 p.m.,” she told The Wall Street Journal.

Since her rewarding sleep schedule changed, where she finds herself in bed by 9:30 every night, Kraft said many of her friends have asked her for advice on how they can do the same.

Because they slept more, a recent study found that Gen-Z members have preferred to drink less than previous generations, according to Cleveland Clinic.

While it's unclear why the generation is drinking less, Dr. Akhil Anand, an addiction psychiatrist, said there could be many factors that play a role in the decision.

First, Generation Z may have realized that alcohol is a depressant that can affect people's mental health.

Dr. Anand said there is a huge mental health crisis happening in the world right now and that Generation Z, instead of drowning in alcohol to meet its needs, has “gone in a different direction.”

He also suggested that Gen-Z has turned to smoking cannabis as a method of reducing stress.

An alcohol-free lifestyle also goes hand in hand with better sleep patterns, weight loss and more energy.

Jennifer Shorr, Joyface's owner, said her bar has hosted four “matinees” since October, all starting at 5 p.m.

Another girl, Madelyn Sugg, 25, started going to bed earlier at night when she moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma, in November.

Sugg, who said she used to bar hop until the early morning, has come to find her happiness in early nights out.

“I was afraid of that feeling of FOMO or feeling like I'm failing at building community, but it actually turned out to be an improvement in all of those areas,” Sugg admitted.

The fictional operations analyst said she now prefers to have drinks with friends every Thursday around 5pm and see a jazz show on Mondays at 6pm.

As well as saving her a lot of stress, anxiety and fatigue from lack of sleep, Sugg also revealed that her bank account has also benefited from the change as she has managed to avoid the cost of midnight snacks and drinks.

Shorr said the 70s-style bar hosted the countdown to 2024 on New Year's Eve at 8 p.m. and had a waiting list for the event with more than 200 people on it.

“We order pizza for everyone, it peaks at 8 p.m., so everyone can still be in bed at 11 p.m.,” says the owner.

In August the New York Post reported that a study found that Generation Z prioritized sleep so much that they failed to complete other tasks before going to bed.

The research concluded that the generations 'most likely not to complete their nightly routine' before going to bed, and that 68 percent of the survey of 2,000 adults fell asleep with their phone in hand.

The survey also found that 53 percent did not brush their teeth before going to bed, while 47 percent ended up falling asleep while still in their regular clothes.

Halle Bailey, 23, shocked her fans on Saturday with the joyful surprise announcement that she has welcomed a baby boy into the world.

There have been rumors for months that Halle and DDG were expecting a baby, and both have pushed the speculation aside.

As recently as New Year’s Eve, DDG denied secretly having a daughter and told fans snooping into his private life to “mind your business.”

This weekend, Halle ecstatically revealed that she gave birth to a bouncing baby boy sometime in 2023 and named him Halo.

She announced the news on Instagram with a heartbreaking photo, which showed her holding her son’s tiny hand as he wore a gold bracelet with his name engraved on it.

[E]Even though we’re already a few days into the new year, the best thing 2023 could have done for me was having my son,” she wrote in her caption.

The Little Mermaid star said, “welcome to the world, my halo,” and, in a possible nod to all the suspicion, added, “the world would like to get to know you.”

On New Year’s Eve, DDG did a Q&A on Snapchat and when a fan asked, “Do you have a daughter?” he answered bluntly, “No.”

He expressed bewilderment that his and Halle’s fans were “so interested in what I was doing or what we were doing.”

DDG, whose given name is Darryl Dwayne Granberry Jr. is, added, “So, man, mind your business. Like, go outside, touch some grass, buddy.”

In September of last year, Halle was followed by the persistent suspicion that she was expecting a baby.

The pregnancy rumors spiraled out of control in October when Halle was spotted wearing a noticeably baggy hoodie while out and about with DDG in Santa Monica.

Adding fuel to the fire, she posted a bikini album in November in which she diligently looked away from the camera in every shot.

The online chatter became so intense that in the middle of that month, Halle reacted with irritation, firing back at claims that she had a “pregnancy nose.”

“If I see someone say something about my nose again, it will be hell to pay,” she said. ‘And do you know why? Because I’m black. I love my nose.’

In September, the month when pregnancy rumors started circulating, she revealed that her romance with DDG is the “first time” she’s ever actually been in love.

“You know, you have puppy love experiences, you think that’s love,” she said Cosmopolitan. “But this is my first deep, deep, real love.”

She spilled, “All musical inspiration really just comes from life experiences. Love has also been very important to me because that’s something I’m experiencing for the first time, and it’s like, “whoa” in your head. It’s just fireworks, a spark for creativity.’

The pair were first linked in early 2022 and DDG confirmed their romance in March by posting a sparkling Instagram tribute for her birthday.

In August, Essence asked Halle if she was in love with DDG and the pop singer replied, “Yes. I am for sure.’

DDG was published at the end of 2022 The breakfast clubwhere he revealed that he was “eventually” open to the prospect of popping the question to Halle.
