It’s one of many alternatives to Netflix and even Amazon’s own Prime Video in an effort to help people reduce costs, especially during the cost of living crisis.

But this week Freevee is getting two extra channels.

A+E Networks – the company behind channels such as Blaze, Crime & Investigation and Sky History – has also launched them at no extra cost on other platforms, including Virgin Media and Samsung TV Plus.

The company already operates a number of free internet channels you may be familiar with, including Inside Crime, Mystery TV and World War TV.

The latest additions include Deal Masters, aimed at anyone interested in shows about making extra money.

Hardcore Pawn, Dickinson’s Real Deal and Flipping Bangers top the bill.

It features programs including Sir Tony Robinson, Professor Alice Roberts, Dan Jones and Al Murray.

Here are some of the shows you can expect:

  • River Hunters
  • Digging to Britain
  • Treasure hunter of shipwrecks
  • Al Murray: Why does everyone hate the English?

The move comes amid a massive explosion of so-called ‘FAST’ channels, which stands for Free Ad-Supported Streamed TV.

In recent years, big names such as Sky and UKTV have launched FAST channels to increase their reach.

“A+E Networks EMEA’s partnerships with leading platforms provide a powerful opportunity to distribute our premium content to new and existing audiences,” said Julie Mitchelmore, VP Digital at A+E Networks EMEA

“Thanks to the hard work of a team of passionate experts, our new FAST channels will complement our existing channels: Inside Crime, Mystery TV and World War TV.”

IN MOTION: The overheated earth and the uprooting of Americaby Abraham Lustgarten

Of course, it’s already happening. You can see it in the fires in California, which are burning down homes and forcing residents to escape the terror of wildfires. You can glimpse it in Arizona, where drought has prompted farmers to give up growing crops and sell their fields to developers.

Tides are rising on the coasts, flooding vulnerable coastal cities, while pervasive heat is expanding ocean volumes and melting the great ice caps of Antarctica and Greenland into the water.

And finally, there are the heat waves: weeks of hellish temperatures that literally mean death for residents of Western states who spend too much time outside. “The places in the world where we think we can live now,” explains Abraham Lustgarten in “On the Move,” his fascinating new look at the population changes caused by the climate crisis, “will not be the same as the places where we will live. can live in the future.”

In a broader context, he warns, we may now be on the cusp of “the greatest demographic shift the world has ever seen.”

Where shall we go? When? And are we welcomed? To answer these questions, Lustgarten collects academic studies and examines models that simulate future migration scenarios; He then combines his insights with reporting.

He also has personal experiences to draw from. He’s a wildfire-weary Californian living in fear that insurers could make his house worthless, or that the next fire could destroy his town. Should he move his family? With each passing year, the question becomes harder to ignore. He keeps a bag packed, water and flashlights ready, knowing that the burning season means he could have to flee at any moment.

Climate-driven migrations will almost certainly become a widespread trend in the coming decades – computer models indicate extraordinary temperature extremes for many parts of the Middle East and North Africa. In the meantime, sea levels are rising and flooding will certainly become a global phenomenon.

Lustgarten’s focus is on the United States, allowing readers to understand the complexities of migration scenarios by examining catastrophes that are now becoming familiar to many of us. And yet: migration is an enormously complex dynamic that goes beyond a period of warm weather or floods. “Of course, not everyone will pack up and move in the face of these changes,” Lustgarten admits.

Some Americans will be too poor to move. Others will be reluctant to give up the familiar way of life. What seems likely based on past migrations is that younger people will be the first to uproot themselves.

The movements may not be extreme at first. Rural residents often migrate to nearby cities; those in the cities are shifting to the cities. And more dramatic movements – similar to the African American “Great Migration” of the first half of the 20th century, or those fleeing the Dust Bowl during the Depression – may not come until later.

Lustgarten’s story sometimes gets bogged down with data and research arcana: Readers are often informed about the potential vulnerabilities of different states under different climate scenarios, as well as what a particular scholar might believe could happen to the U.S. population or to agricultural yields .

What continually enlivens the book are the author’s eloquent personal insights. His visits to Guatemala in particular are both astonishing and poignant, providing great insight into why poor farm workers, ravaged by droughts and disastrous economic conditions, risk everything to come to northern neighbors who greet them with hostility. For Lustgarten, this provides a test case for how the planet’s most vulnerable populations might respond in a climate crisis.

For those of us who already live here, Lustgarten suggests that the decision to stay or go may depend on geography. He points out that for years, state and federal incentives have allowed Americans to settle in dangerous places — for example, offering them cheap flood insurance if they live in a flood zone, or offering subsidized or regulated home insurance policies even if they live in a flood area. area with wildfires or near an eroding beach. Ending such practices could allow homeowners to assess climate risks more clearly, potentially hastening moves to safer places.

But floods, heat waves and fires can have dramatic consequences for the lives of all Americans. “It will affect everyone,” one scientist tells the author. “No one escapes.”

While reading, I sometimes wondered whether Lustgarten should have further tempered the speculative nature of the migration models on which his book is based. In tone, he moves between a confident prediction of the future and caveats that the shifts he writes about are merely predictions, the “threshold of discomfort” that will force one to make difficult-to-determine moves.

After all, personal unwillingness to move is unpredictably associated with external factors. We cannot be certain that interstate politics will allow waves of relocations in, say, 2050. And if we manage to reduce CO2 emissions and avoid the worst-case scenarios for a warming climate, we may discover that human ingenuity could lead to better adaptation to water shortages and rising sea levels (or excessive heat). .

Even a massive volcanic eruption could cool things down, albeit temporarily; it is difficult to predict the future. Be that as it may, climate maps and projected patterns “above all capture the imagination,” as Lustgarten puts it, for what might unfold decades later.

In that regard, this book should fill readers’ minds with possibilities. We know that many Americans are facing a future that is either too hot, too dry, too wet or too chaotic for comfort. And – if our current immigration disputes are any indication – too mean.

When Lustgarten travels to Michigan, he wants to explore whether some Rust Belt cities, now dwindling in number, have the historic infrastructure and ability to grow again. It’s an exciting idea; Whether the region would welcome millions of newcomers is a bigger question. When he asks the city of Ann Arbor’s sustainability director if she thinks residents are more concerned about climate change or newcomers, her answer is telling: “The people coming in, hands down.”

With so much to fear, and so much work to do to make our environment livable, the thing we seem to fear most is… each other. As “On the Move” convincingly demonstrates, with all the heat and disruption coming our way, we’re going to have to do much better than that.

Amid the debate in Washington over whether TikTok should be banned if its Chinese owner doesn’t sell it, one group is watching with particular interest: the many brands – especially in the beauty, skin care, fashion, and health and wellness industries – they used the video app to increase their turnover.

Youthforia, a makeup brand with over 185,000 followers on TikTok, is considering moving more marketing to other platforms, such as YouTube and Instagram. Underlinings, from popular brand Nailboo, planned to launch a product with TikTok at a major retailer in August and is now wondering whether it should change course. And BeautyStat, which sells skincare products on TikTok Shop, can’t even fathom the idea of the platform’s disappearance.

TikTok is “just too big, especially in the beauty industry and in certain sectors, I think, to go away,” said Yaso Murray, BeautyStat’s chief marketing officer.

Companies and creators have known for years that TikTok could be in danger. But those fears seem more real now that the House of Representatives has passed a bill that would ban TikTok in the United States unless its owner, ByteDance, sells it. (Since that vote last week, the bill’s progress in the Senate has slowed.)

Some lawmakers in Washington believe TikTok is a platform for Chinese government espionage. Parents worry it will rot their children’s brains. But many companies – big and small – credit TikTok and its group of influencers for bringing their products to potential customers, especially young ones.

Retailers, whether Sephora, Walmart, Target or Amazon, have also been big beneficiaries of TikTok, says Razvan Romanescu, CEO and co-founder of Underlinings and 10PM Curfew, a company that connects content creators with brands.

“When something goes viral on TikTok, they sell out,” Romanescu said. “So I feel like the whole ecosystem is powered by the discoverability that TikTok provided.”

For some brands, TikTok has become an integral part of marketing strategy and revenue growth. This is partly because the short videos are easily digestible for consumers and partly because marketing on the platform is relatively cheap for smaller brands. TikTok Shop, which launched last year and allows shoppers to purchase products directly through the app, has become especially popular among beauty and fashion brands.

“Before Covid, the beauty category was quite flat and growing maybe a few percentage points per year,” says Anna Mayo, vice president of beauty and personal care at research firm NIQ. But during the pandemic, as consumers had more time on their hands and Zoom calls became more popular, TikTok’s beauty and skincare videos exploded.

“Since then it has been all about growth in the beauty industry and it has not slowed down,” Ms Mayo said. “TikTok is a major driver of that growth.”

New products or clothing can be promoted by individuals who, unlike movie stars or models, feel more recognizable to viewers. The short how-to videos can show you how to best mix and match spring sweaters and jeans, or how to apply toner, serums, moisturizers and sunscreen in a morning skincare routine. Some people say they’re more likely to go to TikTok than Google for shopping.

“The first video was a makeup tutorial, showing how to flawlessly cover acne with three products,” says Mikayla Nogueira, a 25-year-old influencer who started making TikTok videos four years ago. “You can learn a new skill in just 60 seconds.”

That was when Ms. Nogueira found herself with time on her hands after her university halted classes and Ulta Beauty, where she worked, closed its stores because of the pandemic. Today, she has 15.5 million followers on TikTok and regularly collaborates with beauty and skincare brands.

While larger companies can spend marketing dollars on various sites, TikTok offers a more affordable advertising channel than platforms like Google and Meta, which own Instagram.

“For a direct-to-consumer company like ours, the platform is very unique,” says Nadya Okamoto, who started posting TikTok videos about her company’s organic menstrual products, August, in the summer of 2021.

First, TikTok’s “For You” feed continually puts August’s videos in front of new consumers, rather than those who have chosen to follow the brand on other social media platforms like Instagram. Second, the platform allows Ms. Okamoto to be an internal lead content creator.

“Other brands spend hundreds of thousands of dollars on advertising every month, and we spend virtually nothing,” she said.

When asked about a possible TikTok ban, Fiona Co Chan, the CEO and co-founder of Youthforia, said: “I don’t know if anything could fill the gap in the same way.”

TikTok allows Frida to talk about her baby and postpartum products in ways that other advertising and social media platforms might consider taboo, says Chelsea Hirschhorn, the company’s founder. The brand was a relative latecomer as an active user of the app – posts increased about a year ago – but has around 123,000 followers and several videos have gone viral.

Still, Ms. Hirschhorn said, there are legitimate concerns about TikTok disappearing or changing in some way, and Frida isn’t overly reliant on the app. It has figured out how to advertise both in traditional forums (it is now sold in 4,000 Walmart stores in the United States) and in more creative ways (it sponsored Jason Kelce’s pregnant wife, Kylie, at the Super Bowl when his Philadelphia Eagles played in the game). last year).

“I think it is really important that brands have a robust, robust marketing plan across a variety of media channels, both traditional and emerging, to meet any future challenge,” said Ms. Hirschhorn.

While some companies are working on contingency plans for new products, others are watching and hoping that lawmakers won’t ban the platform.

At BeautyStat, Ms. Murray said she was “trying not to get too alarmed by everything that was going on because I think a lot of brands would suddenly experience a big gap in their sales.” She added: “It would be very damaging.”

The real estate agent who accidentally set fire to a $3.2 million home before an open house inspection had previously had a relationship with the owner, court documents show.

Julie Bundrock’s employer, Domain Residential Northern Beaches, was ordered to pay $862,315 to the owner and four tenants for negligently causing a fire that burned the house to the ground.

It can now be revealed that Mrs Bundrock was previously in a relationship with Peter Bush, who was preparing to sell the house at the time of the incident. news.com.au reported.

When questioned by Bush’s barrister, Dominic Priestley SC, Ms Bundrock said the pair had dated when they were younger and were still friends in 2019.

Ms. Bundock is not accused of any criminal wrongdoing and there is no indication that she acted with malicious intent when she accidentally started the fire.

Earlier this week, Daily Mail Australia revealed Ms Bundock herself owns two coastal properties.

The Northern Beaches real estate agent accidentally set the Avalon Beach home on fire in 2019 after noticing the current tenants had left some bedding on the deck to dry.

She threw the sheets on a shelf in a room downstairs and then turned on a lamp placed above the shelf.

Twenty minutes later a fire broke out and destroyed the entire house. It is believed that the light heated the bedding until it ignited.

Ms Bundock, who no longer works for Domain Residential Northern Beaches, has an extensive property portfolio on Sydney’s North Shore.

She owns a two-bedroom Queenscliff unit with panoramic views of the nearby beach.

She bought the clifftop property in 2004 for just $785,000 and now rents the apartment on vacation rental website Stayz for $695 per night.

‘A very private and peaceful area, the highest point of the hill. Enjoy the sounds of the waves and enjoy the sunrises over the ocean and beautiful sunsets over the hills,” she describes on the property listing.

‘Luxuriously furnished with designer finishes, recently renovated with luxurious carpets and an open plan living area leading through sliding glass doors to an extensive wrap-around balcony.

‘Designer kitchen and bathroom, king size main area, very comfortable second, views and built-ins in both. Sep toilet with sink. Study room, unlimited WiFi, washer-dryer combination, closed garage with automatic door.’

She also owns a nearby property in Dee Why, which she bought in 2007 for $290,000.

Ms. Bundock is no stranger to luxurious living.

On social media she shares photos of holidays to Vincentia in Jervis Bay and lavish trips to the snow.

On Tuesday, Avalon owner Peter Bush filed a complaint in court, along with the four tenants who lost everything in the 2019 fire.

Mr Bush told the court that Mrs Bundock said words to the effect of: ‘Oh my God Pete, I think I burned down your house’, and she did so in front of others.

‘I was doing some cleaning up. “I gathered some sheets that were drying on the porch and threw them on a free-standing metal shelf in the bedroom under the stairs,” Ms. Bundock reportedly told Mr. Bush.

‘I just threw them there, Piet, right against the light on the wall. I think that’s what started the fire.”

On Tuesday, Ms Bundock’s employer argued in court that the four tenants who rented the property at the time were responsible for the fire.

The defense stated that the tenants left the house “untidy,” forcing Mrs. Bundock to remove the bedding from the deck before the open house.

During her cross-examination, Ms Bundock said the house was ‘particularly messy’ that day and she was making it ‘presentable for sale’.

Chief Justice David Hammerschlag ruled that Ms Bundock ‘actively created the risk of fire and resulting damage’.

‘It is obvious that a fire can start if you put or throw bed linen against a burning light. That risk was clearly foreseeable, and Bundock should have known,” Hammerschlag said in his decision, also noting that the officer was an “aggressive and uncooperative witness.”

“Her evidence was clearly colored by a heightened sense that she had caused the catastrophe,” he said.

Mr. Hammerschlag ordered Ms. Bundock’s employer to pay Mr. Bush $740,642 for the loss of his home and a total of $121,475 to the four tenants, plus interest.

A high-flying Sydney real estate agent who accidentally set fire to a $3.2 million home while preparing for an open house owns two coastal properties herself.

Northern Beaches real estate agent Julie Bundock accidentally set the Avalon Beach home on fire in 2019 after noticing the current tenants had left some bedding on the deck to dry.

She threw the sheets on a shelf in a downstairs room and then turned on a light placed above the shelf, news.com.au reported.

Twenty minutes later a fire broke out and destroyed the entire house. It is believed that the light heated the bedding until it ignited.

Julie Bundock was preparing for an open house at a four-bedroom house on Sydney’s prestigious Northern Beaches when she noticed the current tenants had left some bedding on the deck to dry

Ms Bundock, who no longer works for Domain Residential Northern Beaches, has an extensive property portfolio on Sydney’s North Shore, Daily Mail Australia can reveal.

Chief Judge David Hammerschlag ruled on Tuesday that Ms Bundock ‘actively created the risk of fire and resulting damage’.

He ordered Ms Bundock’s employer, Domain Residential Northern Beaches, to pay Mr Bush $740,642 for the loss of his home and a total of $121,475 to the four tenants.

Mr. Hammerschlag also ordered the agency to pay interest on the combined $862,315, from the time of the fire in May 2019.

The only catch is that you are willing to watch ads, but you will save money if you can watch the ads.

Free TV App #1 – Plex TV

First up is Plex, which started as a way to create a kind of “personal Netflix” by letting you stream your own saved media to a screen of your choice.

But in 2019, Plex added a library of free content, supported by ads.

Plex now offers over 600 live TV channels, all of which are completely free.

Plex has a score of 4/5 on Amazon’s app store based on over 210,000 reviews.

One reviewer gave it five stars and wrote: “I love the live streaming this channel offers. Great for the whole family.

“We watch most of our movies and TV shows through the live streaming apps. Great for the wallet.”

Amazon reviewer

The app has a rating of 4.2/5 on Amazon’s app store, based on more than 780,000 user reviews.

And 66% of those reviews included five-star ratings, while another 13% handed out four stars.

One reviewer wrote: “Cord cutters rejoice! Your app is here!”

They continued: “This is one of the best apps available on the Fire TV in my opinion. If you have a Fire TV or even a phone, tablet, or computer, you owe it to yourself to at least try this.

“You’ll enjoy it for many, many hours. Well done, Pluto TV!”

A little-known streaming service full of free TV shows and movies has gotten a big boost in its offerings.

Rakuten TV has signed a new agreement with A+E Networks, the company behind channels such as Blaze, Crime & Investigation and Sky History.

This means that a new channel called Deal Masters will be launched on the streaming app, with shows about making extra money.

Hardcore Pawn and Flipping Bangers are among the shows coming, with about 40 series new to free streaming.

Another new station is History Hunters with historians and celebrities including Sir Tony Robinson, Professor Alice Roberts, Dan Jones and Al Murray.

A third offering is the RTV Biography Channel.

The station hosts real-life stories about fascinating people and celebrities, with documentaries on Robin Williams, Elvis Presley, The Krays, Muhammad Ali, Jennifer Aniston, Megan Markle, Tina Turner, Seve Ballesteros, Dua Lipa and Tom Cruise.

Rakuten TV is already available to millions of Brits as a free smart TV app and via Amazon Fire TV Sticks.

Remember that if you watch live streamed TV channels you will still need a TV license or you could be fined up to £1000.

But there are hundreds of on-demand shows and movies that aren’t live and don’t require a TV license to watch.

Free movies on the service include:

  • Kidnapping
  • Meet Dave
  • Stay
  • London robbery
  • Riddick
  • Noah
  • Mr. Magorium’s Wonder Emporium
  • All dogs go to heaven
  • Once upon a time in London
  • Love and other drugs
Amazon Fire Stick owners have discovered a neat trick to control their TVs

The move comes amid an explosion of so-called “FAST” channels, which stands for free ad-supported streaming TV.

Samsung and LG have already built a lot of their own devices into their TVs, with UKTV and Sky channels on them.

“We are very pleased to see top providers globally and locally investing further in FAST and we welcome these partnerships as it supports Rakuten TV’s continued growth in delivering locally relevant content to our audiences,” said Marcos Milanez, Chief Content Officer from Rakuten TV.

“Rakuten TV also remains committed to investing in its portfolio of owned and operated channels.”

How to lower your streaming bills with the best FREE TV

Netflix, Disney+ and Amazon Prime aren’t cheap – and subscription costs seem to be rising year after year.

Luckily, there are tons of free streaming TV alternatives that not everyone knows about.

And we’re not just talking about BBC iPlayer and ITVX.

Here are some free alternatives worth trying:

A FORMER pub worker is doing the devil’s deeds – after creating Scotland’s hottest sauce.

Former chef Ewen Mackenzie, 50, makes the infernal concoctions under his Mack Chilli label, which he exports around the world.

Red Hot Chilli Fifer, owner of Something Different gift shop in Cowdenbeath, said: “The first thing people often ask me is ‘Where’s the hottest sauce?’

“But with chili it’s not about the heat, it’s about the taste. There are more than four and a half thousand peppers in the world and it would be foolish if they were all hot.

“It’s quite a difficult balance to find what people want and what they can actually handle.

“People try the hottest and finish dancing kind of like idiots because they panic. You’d be surprised how many people I’ve seen cry.”

Ewen named one of his sauces Valhalla, after the location in Norse mythology where Viking warriors killed in battle go.

He adds: “I think some of the people who tried Valhalla are there now.”

Ewen worked in pubs and kitchens for years until he got serious raid left him with major health problems.

Forced to reconsider his futurehe chose to become self-employed and took over a gift shop.

It was during that time that he learned all about hot sauce and realized it was going to be big company. Since launching his own brand in 2021, Ewen has been flogging more than 1,500 bottles a year around the world.

With dozens of different options, there is something for everyone on their sliding scale of heat. His most infamous offering, however, is Angel of Dead.

This extreme seasoning is Scotland’s hottest sauce and contains 90 percent Carolina Reaper – the second hottest chili pepper in the world – with 9 million Scoville extracts.

These units range on a spectrum from zero, meaning no heat at all, to 16 million and higher for pure firework. The measurement is carried out by diluting a pepper extract with sugar water and asking human testers to identify the heat level.

The more water needed to beat the heat, the higher the number of Scoville Heat Units (SHU).

Ewen’s scariest offer amounts to being over a thousand times hotter than even the angriest jalapeño.

It’s no surprise that Mack Chilli has a disclaimer accepting no responsibility for misuse of the product.

Despite his reputation for making some of the world’s most fearsome sauces, Ewen would rather people enjoyed the taste than simply see them as a challenge.

He doesn’t recommend that people throw themselves in at the deep end, but instead advises people to build their tolerance level the right way.

HOT TAKES

I had never tried anything other than Tabasco before visiting Ewen, so the thought of this taste test made me warm under the collar.

And while I was pleasantly surprised by the fruity flavors at the lower end of the spice scale, I’ll leave the extreme options to the masochists with a stomach of steel.

Here is my hot version of chili sauce:

LEAVE THE LIGHT ON (charity bottle, £3 per sale to Andy’s Man Club) BBQ sauce with flavors of cherry, cola and smoked chipotle.

CHIQUILA SUNRISE A tasty, fruity sauce with notes of strawberry and plum. Goes very well with game meat.

TROPICAL TEMPTATION This is truly tropical with hints of mango, peach and orange and a moderate burn.

CELTIC GHOST With a serious kick it’s still tasty, with flavors of mango that can shine.

ANGEL OF DEATH This will blow your mind: it has fruits like cranberry and orange in it, but all you feel is the burn.

Ewen adds: “If you can tolerate the heat, that’s fine, but for a beginner I would avoid anything that is too much.

“Start with jalapeño and don’t go straight in and don’t go too far because you’ll hurt yourself and throw yourself off.

“I’ll take my sauce to the pub and see if they can take it.”

Ewen jokes, “They ask me if I’m trying to kill them.

“There was a man who thought he could handle the heat, but he couldn’t finish his pint and had to go At home.

“Many schoolchildren like it. And girls seem to have a higher tolerance than the boys.
