AN UNHAPPY woman who narrowly missed out on an eye-watering £3.6million Lotto jackpot shouted: “Why do bad things always happen to me”.

Nicole Makrigannis, 23, thought she was in with a chance of winning the Set for Life draw, which would have seen her take home as much as £10,000 a month for 30 years.

The make-up artist from Liverpool chose numbers 3, 12, 20, 39, 44 and 6.

She watched in shock as the winning numbers were announced.

Nicole’s jaw dropped when she saw that each figure was only one less than she had chosen.

The balls drawn were 2, 11, 19, 38, 43 and 6.

She said, “Oh my God.

“Why do bad things always happen to me?

“It wasn’t in the universe’s plan to let me live my life.”

People were just as stunned as Nicole when they discovered her accident.

One stunned punter said: “This would be my thirteenth reason why.”

Another suggested bigger plans were at play, saying: “It’s called ‘one-off’.

“Usually this means you are very close to the big win.

“The universe is just testing to see how you will respond.”

A third said the nail-biting coincidence would be enough to send them over the edge.

“No, this would stop my villain era from lying,” they wrote.

Another added: “Just the words ‘set for life’ after seeing those numbers would have me rocking back and forth in the corner sobbing.”

It comes as one man told how a heartbreaking decision saw him miss out on a massive £61 million lottery win.

Paul Ridge, 76, was stunned when ex-wife Debbie Nuttall, 54, claimed the latest EuroMillions jackpot.

Now the ex-husband, who has not seen his ex-wife for 30 years, has said he would be “very grateful” to see a share of the profits.

He told the Mirror: “She can donate some of her winnings to me if she wants. I would be very grateful!”

Meanwhile, a couple who thought they had scooped an eye-watering £182 million EuroMillions jackpot were left devastated when they received a devastating message.

Students Rachel Kennedy and Liam McCrohan were deciding how to spend the money.

They were “absolutely heartbroken” when they called to claim the pot and were told their direct debit had been declined.

Another man was left devastated after his ex won £14.5 million and immediately told him he wouldn’t see a penny.

How do you play Set for Life?

Set for Life’s top prize is £10,000 per month for 30 years.

To play Set for Life, choose five numbers from one to 47 plus one Life Ball number from one to 10.

Then choose which days you want to do the draw and the number of weeks you want to play.

You can play up to seven number lines and purchase up to 10 playing vouchers at the same time.

The draws take place every Monday and Thursday

And she recently shared a budget-friendly tip that can turn any bra into a strapless one, while still giving you plenty of support.

Speak with BBC The SocialKatie said: “Don’t you have a strapless bra? Don’t worry, I’ve got your back.

“By folding the straps down, you can transform a simple T-shirt bra into a strapless one.

“If you feel like you could use some extra coverage or support, you can add a long bandeau made of stretch fabric a few sizes down.”

She added: “It can be very difficult to find a strapless bra that has the right fit.

“Too big and it falls off, too small and you get a quad boob.

“You can test your bra by fastening it backwards and doing the two-finger test.

“The perfect stretch is when you can put two fingers between you and the band, but no more.”

With a ribbed bandeau crop top costing just £4 at Primark, this is a very cost-effective hack.

And Katie’s large community has welcomed the clever idea as one said: “Ahh perfect, thanks! I was struggling with my bra!”

Are you one of the 81% who wears the wrong bra size?

A second wrote: “I wish I had seen this growing up, omg what a hero.”

Meanwhile, a third said: “Major love for this.”

The bra tip comes because research by lingerie brand Boux Avenue showed that 81 percent of women wear the wrong size.

Despite women’s breasts changing shape and size throughout their lives, more than a third (35 percent) have never worn a bra.

Experts say you should have a bra fitted every six to 12 months to ensure you’re wearing the right fit and style for your bust.

Priya Downes, founder and CEO of lingerie brand Nudea, says: “Wearing the right bra is the single most important factor in a woman’s wardrobe, regardless of size.

“If your shoes caused blisters you wouldn’t wear them anymore, so why do we stick to uncomfortable underwear?

“If you can’t wait to get home at the end of the day and take yours off as soon as you walk in the door, chances are you’re wearing the wrong size.”

Tips for selecting the right bra for you

HERE are Priya’s bra checks for finding the perfect fit:

UNDERBAND: This is crucial for support.

It should feel seamless on your skin and rest in a straight line.

Now try to place two fingers under the band – there should be just enough room so that you have a perfect snug fit.

HEADS: You don’t want them to be too tight, with your breasts sticking out over the top or out the side.

And you really don’t want a gap between the cup and the top of your breast.

Nor is it good to look under your clothes.

CENTER FRONT: The wires that run up between your breasts should lie flat against your sternum without any discomfort or loose wire sticking out.

Most open world games these days are based on a tried and tested formula, and if you’ve played one or two, you’ll know what you’re getting into when you pick up the next one in the genre.

There’s usually a huge map to traverse, littered with quest markers and fast travel points that unlock more quest markers.

2

Surprises await around every corner in Dragon’s Dogma 2, so be preparedCredit: Capcom

You get a relatively linear main story and side missions to level up your character between major story pieces.

Typically, open world games hold your hand and make sure you know where to go so you don’t miss any content.

Dragon’s Dogma 2 takes most of these genre pillars and throws them away, proving that not sticking to what everyone else is doing is the way to go.

The game forces you to think about your every move, rather than mindlessly following a quest marker on your screen.

It rewards you for preparing well for your next adventure, and ensures you are well-rested and well-equipped for the task ahead.

You are encouraged to change your character’s calling and hire the right pawns into your party.

Still, the game will always punish you whenever you do something downright stupid.

This gives it an almost Monster Hunter-like feel, as Capcom’s other celebrated series are also more about preparation than the actual combat.

Dragon’s Dogma 2 makes no distinction between main and side missions, as even the most mundane task can often quickly turn into an adventure with major consequences.

The game wants you to be in charge of your decisions, good or bad, so there’s only one save file per playthrough, and it autosaves after important bits.

Fast travel is mostly limited to bullock carts between selected major locations, and even that system isn’t as simple as long-pressing a button, as things can happen along the way.

You can also travel between Portcrystals you find or place in the world, but this option is limited by the number of Ferrystones you have in your possession.

Everything in the game requires you to prepare and think, if you want to avoid or successfully deal with unpleasant surprises.

Even safe areas, such as camps and cities, are not completely safe, as random events can occur, which I won’t reveal.

Your own careless actions can turn a city against you, while aimless button pressing during combat will get you nowhere.

Unlike many other games in the genre, the world of Dragon’s Dogma 2 is designed for exploration rather than fast travel.

The game doesn’t reveal its secrets, but challenges you to find them for yourself, and trying to get the most out of them is infinitely more rewarding than following a question mark on your compass.

Dragon’s Dogma 2 is no picnic and may seem quite challenging at first, but once you figure out what it wants from you, all the systems and quirky design choices fall into place.

Once that happens, it’s a true sandbox game that invites you to experiment with its mechanics and see how the complex world responds as you explore every corner.

Dragon’s Dogma 2 will be released on March 22, 2024 for PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.

PRINCESS Peach: Showtime marks the first time the iconic princess has had a solo outing on a home console.

Thematically, it plays to Peach’s strengths extremely well, adding a new dimension to a typical one-note Mario character.

Each level is designed like a stage performance, with cardboard cutouts for backgrounds and glamorous costume changes in each level.

These costumes serve to give Peach unique abilities, such as becoming a master swordsman, ninja or detective.

It gives each level a special atmosphere, both in terms of atmosphere and gameplay.

One moment you’re heroically charging through a city and knocking UFOs out of the sky, the next you’re investigating a stolen artifact from a museum.

It provides a fast-paced experience, allowing you to switch between fast-paced platforming, stealthy stealth or relaxing baking.

Most levels are short – no longer than 10-15 minutes – but allow each level to be an contained experience, telling a quick but fun story before dragging you into the next stage.

The downside of this loop is that it makes the game exceptionally easy.

This game feels more kid-oriented than most of Nintendo’s other first-party titles, as it isn’t suitable for gamers looking for more of a challenge.

Where games like Super Mario Wonder balance simple stages with hidden challenges and collectibles, Showtime doesn’t fully commit to including these elements.

Each level has a range of unique collectibles, but they’re not at all difficult to find, and anyone with even a little video game experience will be able to spot the obvious hiding places.

Challenge levels make up for this a bit, but they suffer from being far too short and offering no meaningful rewards, so I often didn’t feel like doing them.

That said, the basic concept is enough to keep me coming back for more.

Each level has something new to offer that just makes me smile as I discover all the cute little details in every corner.

It’s so good that I’d say it’s worth playing just to see how much fun the team had creating a game specifically for Princess Peach. It finally sanctifies a lot of the personality that fans have injected into the character over the years.

Still, a full £50 is a lot to ask for a game this short and simple.

With main levels, a handful of boss battles and side challenges – most of which you’ll get through quickly – it can’t hold a candle to Mario’s recent adventures, or even other spin-offs like the Luigi’s Mansion games.

However, it does have something meaningful to offer, and while I don’t think the overall package fits together perfectly, I still had fun playing each level because of its charming design.

It won’t appeal to every gamer, but if you like Peach as a character, this game will do it justice.

“But you just have to forget about it and move on.”

Helen, 69, who rose to fame as a comic in the early 1980s and later starred in the TV sitcom Absolutely Fabulous, admits that if, as an emerging actress, she had been given trendy slimming tricks Wegovy or Ozempic, she would have jumped at the chance to try them out. to take.

“The shots sound like a dream come true,” she says of the diabetes medication that has helped celebrities like Sharon Osbourne and Oprah Winfrey lose weight.

‘If only they had had that when I was young…’ . .

I haven’t had the figure of a model, or the type of attractive actress, so I’ve experimented with dieting all my life, limiting myself to 400 calories a day.

“And if skinny shots help people be healthy, then that’s great.

“Plus, it’s prescribed by professionals, unlike the naughty diet pills I used.”

Weight loss medications are big now newsMorgan Stanley Research expects the market for obesity drugs to rise to £60 billion by 2030.

And Helen can understand the call well.

She says, “In life you always think, ‘Oh, if only I had perfect legs.’ . . ‘You always just want the perfect body, so it makes sense why these have become popular.

“I haven’t had the figure of a model, or the type of attractive actress, so all my life I’ve experimented with dieting, including limiting myself to 400 calories a day.”

The mother-of-one, who grew up in Eltham, south-east London, added: “I was no stranger to trying anything when I needed to lose weight, it didn’t matter how I did it.

Comedian Helen Lederer wants YOU to get excited about women’s cancer

“I managed to get slim, but then I got tired of it, so I gained weight.

“It had a lot of ups and downs.

“If I had gotten the skinny shot when I was younger, who knows? Maybe it would have helped me.

“It’s great that it works for people and it’s amazing how far science has come.”

Helen, who will appear in Corrie next Wednesday and catches the eye of Ken Barlow on a stag night, says she loved starring opposite William Roache, 91, the Street’s longest serving actor.

‘It’s a burden to be different’

“Bill was such a charming, lovely man,” says Helen, who admits she “dropped everything” when she was offered the role.

But while Helen may feel better about herself these days, she has struggled with her body image for decades.

At 6ft 4in, she has yo-yoed from a size 10 to a size 16 throughout her career and admits she starved herself to stay thin.

“I’ve been in different phases of my body my whole life,” she says.

“For years I had phases where I had to switch on and off diet pills.

‘When they worked I thought they were great, but it wouldn’t take long for your heart to start racing.

“I remember there was a comedy series I was in Scotland and I don’t think I ever ate anything while I was taking it – I just drank a lot of wine.

“Now I look back and think, ‘How?’ But then people just did this and got on with it.

“It really was like living the Ab Fab life: ‘I’m the muggins that really do it’.”

Helen started her career as a stand-up comedian at London’s Comedy Store, and quickly became one of the country’s most popular TV personalities, working with acts such as French & Saunders, Rik Mayall and Harry Enfield.

I didn’t look particularly conventional and it’s a bit difficult to be different

But it wasn’t easy being a young woman in the male-dominated comedy world and Helen remembers how she had to develop a thick skin.

“It used to be that a funny woman who didn’t look normal or average was someone to avoid,” says Helen, who releases her memoir Not That I’m Bitter on April 11.

She adds: “I didn’t have the look of it, so I don’t think I was necessarily that accepted through any group because I didn’t fit into any category.

“I didn’t look particularly conventional and it’s a bit difficult to be different.

“But I guess as you get older you just have to come to terms with it.

“If I can make people laugh, I just have to try where I can.”

Devastated by insecurities about her body, Helen says she would cover up in clothes that distracted from her physique.

“I would dress functionally and not wear clothes where someone could see my bosom, or mine, you know what,” says Helen, who has a daughter named Hannah, 33, with her first husband Roger Alton, a former newspaper editor . married 1989-1991.

She says, “You don’t want people to watch it, especially if you’re trying to be funny.

“People can’t help but make comments.”

‘I was that big person… who was funny’

Despite setbacks in her career, Helen is happily married GP Chris Browne has persevered for 25 years since 1999, landing a semi-regular role at ratings giant Ab Fab as idiot magazine contributor Catriona.

“I always wanted to work in comedy and I must have been so determined that no one would stop me from doing that,” she says.

“I’m not saying it all went smoothly.

“It’s a competitive world and society was different then.

“I was the big person in the class who was funny, so I played on that, which I thought worked.

“I didn’t wear glamorous clothes and I never tried to. I understood that look was not for me.

“I wore pants instead of skirts and made sure I had things that covered my crotch.”

One thing Helen has always resisted is the urge to have cosmetic surgery.

“If people want to make adjustments, that’s fine, but personally it’s not for me,” says the star, who also appeared in the series Celebrity Big Brother in 2017.

‘I don’t agree with some people’s choices about what they do with their faces, but that’s to each their own, right?

“I stay away from judgment. It’s not up to me to do that.

“People who have had all this dental work done now look more uniform.

“We used to be a rough old mix – we were probably quite ugly.

‘It sounds terrible, just like in the war, but that’s because we didn’t have the opportunity to change ourselves. We just kept going.

“But I think all those things, like cosmetic surgery, are great – if they work.

“On the other hand, for me there are areas that I have left untouched – probably too untouched.

“I don’t know if I should try it, maybe?

“I think that might become something else to worry about.”

After four decades in showbiz, the actress, who also starred on TV in medical soap Doctors and drama series Midsomer Murders, shows no signs of slowing down.

She says: “I’m still going to continue wherever life takes me.

“I like to have a party and I certainly won’t stop that.

“My motto in life now is just keep going, and maybe gain more self-confidence.”

A MAN has revealed how he was once so broke he slept in a car park but it pushed him to become a millionaire selling tacos.

A reporter for the YouTube channel School of hard knock stopped multi-millionaires in a luxury shopping district in Texas to ask them for top advice.

The taco company owner admitted that he started his business at a low point when he was broke and that he was “used to sleeping in parking lots.”

Now he sells “Only tacos, tacos are really big,” adding, “We don’t even have big restaurants.”

The man said he started selling tacos at a gas station with his wife and another man.

He added: “Now we have five locations and I have between 85 and 100 employees.

“You just have to push hard and everything will happen automatically.”

He has been a business owner for ten years now and in his best year he earned $10 million (£7,860,300).

The man said he achieved this despite never going to college.

He added: “I didn’t go to university. If you really want to be a businessman, it is not a school to learn your business.

“How are you going to teach me when you’ve never owned a business before.

“You have to get up early, when no matter how much money you have, no matter how much business you have, you still have to work hard.”

I used a £500 overdraft to start my business – now it’s worth £350 million and I’m Britain’s biggest self-made millionaire under 40

On where his motivation came from, he said: “I think when you’re broke, you think differently.

“Because what are you going to lose?

“Like me, I wouldn’t lose anything if I tried anything.

“You know what I mean? I was already in the ground, so what else?

“Whatever you do, you just keep moving forward.”

You have to get up early, when no matter how much money you have, no matter how much business you have, you still have to work hard

Owner of a taco company

Other people the reporter spoke to in the video included a 70-year-old in a Lamborghini who had been a “business owner” in supply chain management for forty years.

The next one was a man in a G-Wagen, which can retail for more than £112,409.

He worked in private equity and said, “Nothing comes easy, nothing comes overnight and be patient.”

He added: “I think everyone these days is looking for a get-rich-quick scheme. You know?

“Just go to school, learn from someone.

“It’s all connected, right?

“Go learn from someone who has done it, but understand that as you learn, you are not going to create what that person has.

“And then take note and do it.”

As she got ready for her day, she decided not to wear eyebrow makeup.

Instead, she opted for hair growth oil to get the job done.

“Realizing that you can use hair growth oil instead of filling in your eyebrows because it looks better,” she said.

Using a thin-tipped brush, she ran the oil over individual brow hairs, parting each hair as if she had run it over with a fork.

“I joke that it looks better, but it does help your eyebrows grow like crazy!” she said.

Other beauty fans have turned to growth serums instead of makeup to revamp their brows.

Shoppers raved about a popular beauty deal, a $20 Dersie Rapid Brow Serumthat worked to restore their thin hair.

“I over-plucked and tried to grow my eyebrows back for years,” said one reviewer.

“This product has helped fill in the gaps that I thought were lost forever.

“I have sensitive skin and haven’t had any problems with this serum other than maybe a little drying, so I moisturize in the morning.

“I apply this product every night before bed. The hairs have definitely gotten thicker and are growing much faster, so I have to tame them more often, but I am very pleased with the results.”

Another satisfied customer thought the serum ‘worked like magic’.

“My eyebrows have never looked so full,” they said.

“It’s easy to apply and it’s worth your money. Highly recommended.”

A WOMAN has revealed how she made £50,000 in passive income thanks to her self-run Etsy store.

Ana Colak-Fustin, 32, from Sweden, used to work as a recruiter and career coach and decided to start creating resume templates for people looking for a job.

She opened her store in 2021 after noticing that many people of all career levels could use help applying for jobs.

Speak with Business insidershe said: “Initially, I thought 1:1 services were my only option, but when I came across digital products on Etsy, I realized that balancing a digital products-based business with my 9-5 job would be much easier then a service-oriented one.

“I have made over $70,000 (£50,000) in income on Etsy. I pay Etsy a standard 6.5 percent transaction fee for each sale, and I pay a few dollars a day for Etsy ads.”

The best part is that her store makes money without much input from her, while she works full-time doing HR consulting for small businesses.

Ana adds: “I now work an average of 30-40 hours a week on my business, while my Etsy shop runs almost on autopilot in the background.”

Every day she does a quick 30-minute Etsy check-in for stats, keyword trends, and customer interactions.

But the rest of her time is spent on her main business and creating content for her website.

She replenishes her Etsy shop with new resume templates about two to three times a year, and has found that one strategy has helped her scale her profits.

After raising just $4,000 (£3,141) in her first 15 months, she said she needed to “do things differently” and incorporated Pinterest into her strategy.

Using Pinterest has helped her expand her reach and increase store traffic, with 35 percent of traffic coming from Pins she created.

I earned £39,000 as a stay-at-home mum from my part-time job. I only work when my baby is sleeping and you can do the same

Ana recommended prioritizing SEO to help people find Etsy shops with the right keywords, calling it the “backbone” of her success.

She concluded: “One of the most satisfying aspects of my business is seeing the significant impact these simple products can have. I have played a small part in the career journeys of thousands of people, and I regularly receive messages about the interviews and job opportunities my clients secure, which is incredibly rewarding.”

What is Etsy?

“Etsy connects people looking for unique goods with independent sellers around the world,” the company said.

Etsy is an American e-commerce company founded in 2005 by entrepreneur Rob Kalin and partners Chris Maguire and Haim Schoppik.

It is a global online marketplace that provides millions of handmade, vintage and artisanal items, created and curated by millions of independent sellers.

These sellers may be long-time entrepreneurs, enterprising hobbyists, or even factories in China.

The site really took off in late 2011, just two years after it started turning a profit.

At the time, about twelve years ago, the association had about 10 million members.

Today that figure stands at over 96 million.

Jade Morrissey looks at her reflection in the mirror and likes what she sees – everything except the roll of loose skin wrapped around her waist.

And she hopes strangers will donate their money to help her get rid of it.

After losing an incredible 11st, she is only half the size she used to be and although she is much healthier than when she weighed 21st and 4lbs, no amount of weight loss will be enough to make up for the excess.

Jade says the skin removal surgery carried out privately in Britain would cost her £5,500, which she says she cannot afford – and she is not eligible for it on the NHS.

The final hurdle

The 27-year-old, a carer who lives in Swansea, said: “When I look in the mirror all I see is skin, which looks like a barbell strapped to my stomach.

“I have to wear three sports bras to go to the gym, and tuck the excess skin into my leggings to feel comfortable.

‘I would have to lose another stone to qualify for surgery on the NHS, which I don’t want to do, and even then the waiting list is so long and causes a lot of skin problems such as pain and rashes.

“I don’t want to take the risk of going abroad, I haven’t heard good things about what can happen in clinics there, so I’m hoping to raise enough money to do it in the UK.

“Although I have lost all this weight and I am very proud of myself, I now have to overcome this final hurdle.”

‘I don’t dare think about how many calories I ate’

Jade first gained weight in 2022 after eating chocolate and chips for comfort following a miscarriage at seven weeks – at her biggest she squeezed into a size 26.

“It was such a difficult time, I was really depressed,” she explains.

“Most evenings would be a Chinese takeaway, topped off with a tub of ice cream – I dread to think how many calories I ate.

“I really hated looking in the mirror.”

Traumatizing turning point

Jade’s health soon began to decline and she had multiple health problems, including acid reflux, difficulty walking and shortness of breath.

She finally got a ‘wake-up call’ during an endoscopy in 2022 – during which a camera – which doctors hoped could identify the cause of the reflux – was sent down her throat to her stomach.

Due to her size, Jade was told it would be too dangerous to put her under general anesthesia, so Jade was left “traumatized” after the procedure.

She says: “The turning point really came during the endoscopy: I couldn’t believe I was too big to use anesthesia.

“I realized how much my weight was affecting my life.

“It was such a horrifying experience to have the camera down my throat while I was wide awake.

“It was a big shock.”

Now Jade is healthier than ever, but still has problems due to the excess skin that requires surgery

Spurred to action

It spurred her into action and in January 2023, she signed up for the gym and completely changed her diet, making healthy, home-cooked meals from scratch.

She lost a whopping 11 stone in just a year – and has now dropped to 10st 4lb, a slim size 8.

The excess skin causes ‘sweating and irritation’ and she says she is so desperate to get rid of it that crowdfunding is the only way it will happen.

Jade, who is married to 28-year-old Adam, a children’s animator, said: ‘I really hope I can raise this money through people’s donations and this skin can be removed.

”It’s so uncomfortable, but the surgery is very expensive, and I’m also trying to save as much as I can for it, but anything people can donate would be great.

“I don’t expect anyone to make a donation, but if anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated.

“Luckily my husband Adam doesn’t care about the excess skin and loves me anyway – he just wants me to feel comfortable.

“I sometimes worry about him seeing or feeling the skin, but he doesn’t care, and that’s the most important thing.”

Weight Loss Wonder Woman

Jade and Adam are fans of cosplay and regularly go out in public in superhero costumes – which Jade says was the motivation for losing the last bit of weight.

Now the care assistant regularly goes out dressed as Wonder Woman – while Adam is Captain Marvel.

But she says removing the excess skin will really unleash her confidence.

She explains, “I never had the confidence to dress up or go out in public when I was older.”

“At first it was nerve-wracking to see if people would watch, but I don’t care anymore.

”My husband and I love it, and we go to cosplay events in costume – although I still have to hide the excess skin and wear a gastric band under my costumes.

“Finally having the surgery will be the last piece of the puzzle for me, and I’m so excited.”

Jade now has the confidence to wear whatever she wants, and enjoys dressing up as Wonder Woman

From getting picked up in the pouring rain in Milan to taking a helicopter ride over Central Park, this American woman traveling the world in search of love has certainly had her fair share of interesting dates.

Anne Marie Hagerty began a “global search” to find her husband two years ago after splitting from a man she thought she was “going to marry.”

Since then, she has visited 25 countries, exploring the dating scene in each country and collecting anecdotes such as souvenirs. She posts her dating adventures on her TikTok account (@annemariehagerty), where she has amassed 50,000 followers.

The 28-year-old spoke to MailOnline Travel about her international encounters and shared details about the most romantic spots and places that failed to capture her heart.

Before her dating quest, Anne Marie was certainly no stranger to travel. She moved from a small town in North Carolina to New York, has flown everywhere from Japan to Panama, and even lived in India when she was 18. But, she said, dating abroad opened her eyes to a “whole different side” of travel. .

The most romantic places, she claimed, are New York, Italy and Croatia. Anne Marie described New York as her “number one” place so far. And said it’s a “big part” of why she moved there.

She explained: ‘The serendipity of the city is magical, plus the fact that you are surrounded by millions of people, but when you find one special person it feels like you are living in a super romantic movie.

“I love grand romantic gestures and unique experiences, and New York is the best place in the world to make those things happen. For example, I scheduled a meeting with a man to fly in a helicopter with doors over the Statue of Liberty, the Empire State Building and Central Park.”

And Italy also left her swooning with delight. There she experienced one of her ‘best dates’. In Milan, Anne Marie was picked up by a stranger in the pouring rain. “He walked up to me and said, ‘I think you’re beautiful, I’d like to take you out to dinner,’” she said.

Lake Como was another passionate place. She said it is “hands down the most romantic place I have ever been in my life.” But overall, she claimed it was difficult to find dates in Italy.

Meanwhile, Croatia, she said, was just as romantic and easier to meet people than Italy. She explained: ‘It has the charms of Italy, with a more off the beaten track feel. And people were generally friendlier and open to dating early on.”

Although not as romantic as some places she has visited, Anne Marie said London was one of her favorite places so far.

ANNE MARIE HAGERTY’S DATING EXCLUSIONS BY COUNTRY

NEW YORK: ‘Being surrounded by millions of people, but finding one special person feels like living in a super romantic adventure movie.’

ITALY: ‘Lake Como is without a doubt the most romantic place I have ever been in my life. It’s literally in the air.’

CROATIA: ‘Has the charms of Italy with a more off-the-beaten-path feel – and people were generally more friendly/open to dates early on.’

MEXICO: ‘I’ve had a lot of machismo experiences with guys who were quite chauvinistic and pushy.’

BELIZE: ‘I met some great expat friends, but many of the locals I met gave off the air of a big player.’

SWITZERLAND: ‘The men are friendly and kind, but isolated.’

ARGENTINA: ‘The men are so exaggerated and aggressive, almost like a love bombing.’

LONDON: ‘The men are an interesting combination of weird, stylish, reserved and chivalrous.’

She found an ‘interesting combination of men’ in the British capital, and wAlthough she had some “weird encounters,” she said most were “sweet, reserved and quite chivalrous.”

What made it stand out? She said: ‘There is a sense of global connectedness and the ability to connect with the world in some way.

‘There’s something sweet about British culture for me too. There’s tea, there’s Sunday roasts, it’s just very sweet and very family oriented.”

But Anne Marie was not impressed by the places she visited. She said Colombia is an “amazing country” with “cool food” but the dating scene is “not for me.”

She explained, “There’s a little bit of this throughout Latin America, but it’s a very machismo culture that I don’t buy into.” Mexico was another place where she found men “quite chauvinistic and pushy.”

She also struggled to connect with men in Switzerland, where she said it was “difficult to get to know people more deeply.”

She added: ‘I discovered that Swiss people are more isolated and tend to stay within their group. I respect it and they are very nice, but they are not the most welcoming to newcomers.”

While Anne Marie visited dozens of countries with the intention of finding a husband, she has not yet found one.

For now, she’s enjoying the process, meeting new people and exploring connections without “high expectations.”
