Now, no business thrives by standing still, and there is no improvement without change. Course corrections, reorganization and strategic pivots are all necessary from time to time. Technological changes continue to require the restructuring of major industries. But over the past quarter century, the idea of disruption has also metastasized into a kind of cult, whose creed is that everything must be constantly disrupted, and that if you don’t change everything, you’re losing.

You can take disruption courses at the business schools of Stanford, Cornell, Columbia and Harvard. On the cover of a leading business magazine, you can read how to “Build a Leadership Team for Transformation: Your Organization’s Future Depends on It.” And if you are looking for the catechism of chaos, you can buy the inspirational posters and chant the slogans: Fail fast; disturb or be disturbed; move fast and break things. Some of this, of course, is a product of the hubris of Silicon Valley technologists. But there is also a belief that a leader’s fundamental job is to bring about change. It’s hard to remember a time when there were different ideas about how to run a business.

Moreover, because a majority of business leaders—along with the consultants and bankers who advise them, the activist investors who exhort them, and the financial analysts who evaluate their efforts—have been raised on this credo of change, the ongoing churn becomes something of a crisis. of flywheel. A leader brings about change because that’s what a leader does. The advisors and investors and analysts respond positively because they have learned that change is always good. There is a rapid rise in reputation, stock price, or both. The executives – paid, remember, usually in stock – feel like they’ve been appropriately rewarded for maximizing shareholder value, and then everyone moves on to the next change.

But it is hardly clear whether this has the desired result. Research on mergers and acquisitions activities has shown that the rate at which they destroy – rather than increase – shareholder value falls somewhere in between 60 And 90 per cent; Jeffrey Pfeffer, professor at Stanford Business School, has argued that layoffs rarely result in lower costs, higher productivity or a solution to the underlying problems in a company; and few of us who have experienced reorganizations remember them as the opportunity for a sudden flowering of productivity and creativity.

Seen through the eyes of those on the front lines, the reason for this gap between intention and results is coming into sharper focus. When the people around you are ‘transferred’, or when you suddenly find yourself working for a new boss who is not yet convinced of your competence, it is quite a challenge to convince yourself that all this change and disruption is not an improvement at all. .

The genre of fun games has exploded in recent years, but its popularity can be traced back to one game released in 2016: Stardew Valley.

Stardew Valley is played by tens of millions of players and now, almost seven years after its release, the game has received one of the biggest updates ever.

Stardew Valley’s version 1.6 update is now available on PC via Steam and brings hundreds of additions, changes, and new content.

New additions include a new Desert Festival, a three-day event in the game’s spring, and two mini fishing festivals, the Trout Derby and SquidFest.

Update 1.6 also introduces a new type of starter farm called Meadowlands Farm, which has tough blue grass, starts with a chicken coop and two chickens, and focuses more on raising animals than regular farming.

Players can also have multiple pets, provided they can indulge their starter pet, and pets also sometimes give you gifts.

In addition to all of the above, there are also dozens of new items, new furniture for your home and more animals.

The entire change log for Stardew Valley 1.6 is absolutely massive, covering hundreds and maybe even thousands of changes, including bug fixes and tweaks to make the game a little better across the board.

So far, the new update is only available on PC via Steam and Microsoft Store, but sole developer ConcernedApe says the update will be available on Nintendo Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox and mobile platforms as soon as possible.

The hospital where Kate Middleton was treated was at the center of a major security scandal tonight after staff tried to access her personal medical records.

Bosses at the London Clinic, where the Princess of Wales underwent a planned abdominal operation in January, launched the investigation after it was alleged that at least one staff member had tried to access the royal family’s notes.

An insider told the newspaper Mirror‘This is a major breach of security and incredibly damaging to the hospital, given the hospital’s unblemished record of treating members of the Royal Family.

‘Senior hospital bosses contacted Kensington Palace immediately after the incident was brought to their attention and assured the palace that there would be a full investigation.

“The entire medical staff is utterly shocked and distraught over the allegations and deeply hurt that a trusted colleague could have been responsible for such a breach of trust and ethics.”

Kate is said to be aware of the alleged incident, with a Kensington Palace spokesperson saying: ‘This is a matter for the London Clinic.’

It is a criminal offense for staff in an NHS or private healthcare environment to access a patient’s medical records without permission from the medical provider’s data controller.

The Met Police were contacted by MailOnline but did not immediately respond to the allegations.

The London clinic declined to comment on the claims, but told the newspaper it firmly believes “that all our patients, regardless of their status, deserve total privacy and confidentiality regarding their medical information.”

The investigation comes amid a tsunami of speculation on social media about the princess. unknown health condition, which Kensington Palace said would be out of action until afterward Easter.

Baseless and hurtful conspiracy theories spreading about her online include that she is dead, has been replaced by a body double or that Wales’ marriage is in trouble.

The absurd claims only increased when the princess took the blame for the family photo released by Kensington Palace on Mother’s Day, which was ‘killed’ by six of the world’s top photo agencies over concerns it had been ‘doctored’.

The social media furor prompted the princess to issue a personal apology to X, writing: “Like many amateur photographers, I occasionally experiment with editing.”

The hospital’s investigation comes just days after videos and photos emerged on Monday of Kate and Prince William visiting a farm shop in Windsor.

It showed a smiling Kate carrying a shopping bag as she quickly walked out of the shop, a mile away from their Adelaide Cottage.

While the film brought relief to millions of people in Britain – suggesting the princess’s recovery is on track – crazed trolls took to social media claiming the video wasn’t Kate, but a body double.

The breach of hospital security is not the first time the princess has faced public disclosure of otherwise private medical records.

In 2012, two Australian radio DJs posed as the Queen and Prince Charles in a prank on staff at King Edward VII’s Hospital, where Kate was being treated for acute morning sickness.

Unable to understand their impressions, night nurse Jacintha Saldanha connected them to a nurse who helped treat the Duchess.

The stunt, which provided information about Kate’s medical condition, was broadcast in full. But it became a tragedy when mother-of-two Mrs Saldanha was found hanged three days later.

The incident – and its tragic consequences – were known to have had a major impact on the royal couple. In a letter to Ms Saldanha’s family, William said they felt it was ‘such a shame that someone who cared so much for others found themselves in such a desperate situation.’

The London Clinic, where the Princess of Wales was treated earlier this year, first opened its doors in 1932.

The illustrious list of previous patients includes Prince Philip, Princess Margaret, Hollywood star Elizabeth Taylor and future US President John F. Kennedy.

The clinic has a leading form of cancer center where patients are accommodated for chemotherapy, radiotherapy and other treatments.

Since the 1980s, a number of facilities at the site have been officially launched by members of the Royal Family.

The King, as then Prince of Wales, opened the physiotherapy department in 1989, while Princess Margaret launched the MRI unit in 1991 and the late Queen unveiled a new cancer unit in 2010.

Prince Philip was admitted to the clinic in 2013 for what was described as an ‘abdominal examination’, while Princess Margaret was treated there in 1980 to have a benign skin lesion removed.

In 1947, Kennedy, then a US congressman, was diagnosed with Addison’s disease in the clinic.

Taylor underwent knee surgery there in January 1963 after falling on a film set.

Other former patients include former Labor Prime Minister Clement Attlee, who was admitted for surgery on his prostate in 1939 – when he was Leader of the Opposition.

Another former prime minister, the Conservative Anthony Eden, had his gallbladder removed at the London Clinic in 1953 when he was Foreign Secretary.

Current Foreign Secretary David Cameron, who was Prime Minister from 2010 to 2016, was born there in 1966.

Tesco did not specify how many customers or which regions were affected.

A spokesperson said: “We are working to resolve a technical issue which has caused us to cancel a number of online orders due for delivery today.

“We are sorry for the inconvenience.”

A disabled woman told The Sun in an email that she had heard about her canceled delivery, but did not tell her why.

Zoe, from Gloucestershire, suffers from chronic fatigue and long Covid-19 and therefore relies on home deliveries to feed her family.

She said: “I will have to ask someone to go to the local shops for the necessities for my family until Monday evening, or use today’s energy to go out. I am a disabled single parent.

“Because of my disability, I have to rely on biweekly shopping at the supermarket. I cannot manage large supermarket stores.”

The problems also sparked anger online as Tesco customers expecting home delivery or click-and-collect had their orders canceled.

One woman says she had to rush to the shops to get nappies after her delivery was cancelled.

She fumed: “So annoyed that my online order from Tesco was canceled due to a technical problem… I had to buy things because I desperately needed nappies and I’m not doing well.

“@Tesco, what’s going on?”

Another said on

“She works all day in the NHS and could do without this. Do you have the same problems as Sainsbury’s?”

A third said she turned up to collect her order but was told it was “unavailable”.

She added: “I was told it would be canceled but you marked it as collected.”

SAINSBURY’S CHAOS

It comes just hours after Sainsbury’s canceled thousands of home deliveries and contactless payments collapsed following an overnight software update.

Trolleys full of groceries were dumped as panicked shoppers rushed to withdraw cash, leading to huge queues at ATMs.

But now that the card-only self-service machines are out of use,

Unable to use card-only self-checkouts, customers crowded into lines at manned checkouts.

Sainsbury’s customers were left furious by the chaos, as some criticized the supermarket giant’s lack of communication.

Hilton Lord said the store in Warlingham, Surrey, fell into chaos when staff alerted motorists to the IT glitch as they arrived at the car park.

He told The Sun: “The end result was a huge traffic jam as cars waited to get in and blocked straight-through traffic.

“Inside the service points where payment could only be made in cash worked, but not the service points where payment could only be made by PIN.”

Another said on

A third fumed: “Proactively contact customers?

“I’ve been on hold for over an hour trying to figure out what’s happening with my order, no hold music, so I’m not even sure I’ve been in line.”

A fourth posted: “You made an enemy in me today.”

On Friday, McDonald’s suffered a system crash that forced it to close a number of restaurants.

Customers were reportedly turned away from stores and some reported problems ordering online.

A spokesperson for Sainsbury’s previously said: “We are currently experiencing a technical issue which is impacting some stores, our Groceries Online service and our ability to contact customers directly.

“Unfortunately, we will not be able to deliver the vast majority of today’s groceries online.

“We are working hard to resolve the issue and apologize to our customers for the inconvenience.

“We will proactively contact customers to rebook orders as quickly as possible.”

SONY is rolling out a massive free upgrade to millions of PlayStation owners.

This week’s new PS5 system update brings some big changes, including a surprise boost to DualSense controllers.

The update was announced back in February, but Sony has now started rolling it out to PS5 consoles around the world.

There are three major changes that PlayStation gamers should take note of.

DUALSENSE UPGRADE

Some of the biggest changes are coming to the DualSense and DualSense edge controllers.

For starters, the speakers in the controllers can now reach higher volumes.

Sony says this will allow you to “hear in-game sounds and voice chat audio more clearly.”

If you’re not happy with the sound volume coming out of the controller, you can adjust it in the settings.

Noise cancellation on the DualSense controller’s microphone has also been upgraded.

“Microphone input quality on these controllers has been improved thanks to a new AI machine learning model,” Sony said.

“Background noise from button presses and game audio is suppressed, resulting in a better voice chat experience.

I’m a PS5 expert and a little-known settings trick gets you faster Wi-Fi – just don’t press the wrong button

“Install the beta version of the system software and update the controller device software to enjoy improved clarity of your voice chat audio when using the controller microphone.”

SHARE SCREEN

The existing Screen Share feature has been upgraded.

Sony says players viewing Share Screen in full screen will be able to use pointers and emoji reactions to interact with gameplay.

This feature is enabled by default, but Screen Share hosts can disable it in the settings.

To see the feature, you’ll need to join the PlayStation beta.

PS5 POWER

It is now possible to adjust the brightness of the PS5 console’s power indicator.

You can change this at any time by going to your settings.

Just go to Settings > System > Beep & Light > Brightness.

This can be a big advantage if you have trouble with the brightness of the light in a dark room.

FAN FAVORITES

PlayStation fans took to Reddit to reveal their thoughts on the new changes.

One gamer wrote: “Ahhh, I love that we can finally turn down the brightness of the power indicator.

“It was a bit annoying while watching movies in the dark.”

Another said: “It’s much better! At least in mine opinion.”

And someone added: “Definitely an improvement. You can choose between low/medium/high (high is default and the light level it was before the patch).

“Low/medium are definitely nicer in a dim/dark room.”

But fans were disappointed that a feature is still missing.

One disappointed gamer said: “Still no way to share screen on Discord? :(“

Another said this would be “the dream”, while one added: “This was the main feature I was hoping for when they announced they were adding Discord. It’s been a while, we need this.”

A fifth steel monolith shaped like a giant Toblerone was spotted on a hillside in Wales last weekend, in the latest in a series of bizarre sightings.

The sighting follows a number of similar reports in Britain and the US. But where exactly have previous monolith sightings occurred? When did they take place and could there be a deeper meaning behind them?

Read on below for everything you need to know about monolith sightings that have occurred in recent years.

Hay-on-Wye, Wales

Locals in Hay-on-Wye spotted the three-metre-tall block of steel, which resembles the distinctive chocolate bar shape, on Hay Bluff near the town of Powys this weekend.

The last monolith sighting was captured in a photo by Richard Haynes, who took the photos while running on Hay Bluff.

While some speculated that the structure could be the work of aliens or a sign of life on Mars, others said it was an elaborate work of art.

Speaking to WalesOnline, Mr Haynes said: ‘I was heading towards Hay Bluff, where the trig point is, and looked to the right. I thought it looked a bit bizarre and might have been a scientific media study collecting rainwater.

‘But then I realized that it was much too big and too strange for that. Then I went there and it was at least ten feet tall and triangular, definitely stainless steel.

‘It was hollow and I think it was quite light. Light enough for two people to lift and plant in the ground.’

Curiously, Mr Haynes said he often walked the route and had never seen the monolith before, while a friend who visited the site for two weeks also said he had not seen the structure at the time.

“I noticed on Google that it has popped up quite recently and from what I can understand it goes away after a few days,” he added.

On December 12, 2020, local resident Luke Brown stumbled upon another imposing monolith in Cornwall and captured a video of the metal object.

He said: ‘I was rather shocked and awestruck to find a monolith in the center of the Merry Maidens stone circle just before sunset, the only time I left my camera at home.

‘It was a beautiful thing, but I can’t help but think about the damage that may have been done to this beautiful conservation area.’

The Merry Maidens, also known as Dawn’s Men – a likely corruption of the Cornish Dans Maen Stone Dance – is a late Neolithic stone circle.

The circle, thought to be complete, consists of nineteen granite megaliths and lies in a field along the B3315 between Newlyn and Land’s End.

Dartmoor, Devon

Dartmoor National Park quickly removed the monolith after photographer Sarah Clarke posted a photo of it, with the body saying the moorland is protected.

Just one day before the monolith was captured in Cornwall, one measuring 2.5 meters high was also spotted in Dartmoor National Park, Devon.

The structure was spotted on Dartmoor by photographer Sarah Clarke, who took a photo of the monolith before posting it to X, formerly Twitter.

She assured her followers that the image was not created with Photoshop software, saying: ‘So a very exciting morning – it’s real!

“Anyone who knows me knows that I just can’t do Photoshop, so take my word for it.”

Mark Bullock, who went to look at the pillar on Wednesday, said the vantage point on the hill made it seem like “there was something wrong with the sky.”

He added: ‘It was a bit surreal.’

Dartmoor National Park quickly removed the monolith after Ms Clarke’s post, saying the moorland is protected.

A spokesperson said: ‘We know people may find this sort of thing an interesting topic of conversation, but we must remember that Dartmoor is a protected landscape because of its importance for wildlife, nature and archaeology.’

Glastonbury Tor, Somerset

Just 48 hours earlier, another similar structure was spotted at the top of a hill in Glastonbury with ‘Not Banksy’ etched on it.

Walkers discovered the large silver structure top of Glastonbury Tor – an ancient hill linked to King Arthur and Celtic mythology.

It is believed that the monolith was placed there overnight before being felled by a gust of wind.

The shiny triangular pillar features a stencil drawing of a rat, similar to the style of street artist Banksy.

Michelle Cowbourne spotted the metal structure on National Trust grounds during her regular morning walk.

“I walked up the long slope and this was on the other side and when I saw it I couldn’t believe my eyes,” she said. “I just thought, what the hell is that.

‘There were two large metal bolts, but they were not properly secured to the ground.

“It’s a large piece of metal and it was very heavy,” Ms Cowbourne added.

Compton Bay, Isle of Wight

On December 6, 2020, another monolith was found by beachgoers in Compton Bay on the Isle of Wight.

A number of photos from different angles suggested that the monolith was buried in the sand, providing a perfect reflection.

It is unclear how the object ended up on the beach, as it is only accessible via a footpath.

Locals were quick to question whether the images of the monolith posted on social media were ‘photoshopped’ or whether it was ‘just a belated April Fool’s joke’.

But photographer Alice Williams insisted it was real and shared photos of the two-metre-tall structure at sunset in a local Facebook group.

Climate protesters have brought traffic to a standstill on one of Melbourne’s busiest streets, causing massive chaos for thousands of frustrated commuters trying to get to work.

Dozens of Extinction Rebellion members blocked and walked slowly along Collins Street in the CBD during the morning rush hour on Tuesday.

Tram and bus services are also embroiled in the chaos.

Police have arrived and cordoned off a busy intersection on Queen Street, adding to the chaos.

Motorists caught in the chaos were furious.

“It’s just wrong,” one motorist told Sunrise.

“Something would take me five minutes to get to the road, but it took me about 25 minutes.”

The latest protest comes a week after a truck blockade on the West Gate Bridge caused major traffic delays and forced a young mother on her way to hospital to give birth along the highway.

Despite being arrested and charged last week, activist Joseph Zammit was back on the streets Tuesday morning

“What I was told was not unlawful protesting. It’s not clear to me what that means,” he told Sunrise.

‘So I’m playing it safe. I’m on the sidewalk handing out flyers.

More to come.
