The fate of Yellowstone – and its upcoming sequel – is once again in jeopardy.

Several of the hit show's main cast, including Kelly Reilly, Cole Hauser and Luke Grimes, are all asking for a significant increase in their per-episode fees to star in the upcoming follow-up show.

However, Paramount is opposing the increases, which it says amount to hundreds of thousands of dollars per star Puck news.

Both Reilly and Hauser are reportedly aiming for rates of more than $1 million per episode of the new show, while negotiating requests for Grimes — who recently confirmed he's releasing his debut album — aren't entirely clear.

A bigger sticking point, however, appears to be the actors' claim that they should appear first in the credits of the new show, ahead of new lead actor Matthew McConaughey, who has not yet signed on to the series.

The latest delay in negotiations comes after original Yellowstone star Kevin Costner was written off the show for the second half of the fifth and final season after asking for more money and a significantly shorter shooting schedule to accommodate the two-part Western epic film he directed and starred Horizon.

Yellowstone stars Kelly Reilly (L), Cole Hauser (R) and Luke Grimes (center) are reportedly locked in negotiations with Paramount over big salary increases for a follow-up show, according to Puck News; depicted in a publicity campaign for Yellowstone

According to Puck, series co-creator Taylor Sheridan – who is writing the follow-up series – did not originally plan to include Reilly, Hauser and Grimes in the new series.

An unnamed source says Sheridan agreed to use the actors after they were pitched as a way to bridge the gap between the original Yellowstone and the new series, though it's unclear whether that claim could be a negotiating strategy to to strengthen the role of the actors in the new series. seem weaker.

However, Paramount seems to want to keep the actors on board to ensure that the sequel can achieve similar success to Yellowstone.

Kelly Reilly, who plays Beth Dutton, the daughter of Costner's character John Dutton III, has reportedly made an opening request of $1.5 million per episode of the new show, although she is now reportedly asking for significantly less, at $1.2 million per episode.

Her current salary has not been shared, but she is reportedly still asking for a significant raise.

Reilly's agent has reportedly put together a collection of memes and social media posts about her character to show how much of a favorite she is during the negotiations.

Cole Hauser, who plays Rip Wheeler, initially asked for $1.25 million, though it's not clear if his current demand has dropped yet.

That would also be a big pay increase for him, considering he currently only makes $700,000 per episode of Yellowstone.

Paramount has reportedly offered him $850,000 for each episode of season one and $950,000 per episode of season two, which is guaranteed.

Reilly and Hauser apparently see themselves as the top players on the new show, and they reportedly asked to have their names mentioned above intended star Matthew McConaughey in the show's credits, which seems unlikely given his significantly increased star power.

Grimes is in a slightly different position as he is also asking for a raise, but his initial demands were either less important or he negotiated them faster than his fellow players.

Puck also reported that McConaughey won't sign on to the show until he has a chance to read a script, so his future with the show is still up in the air.

However, producers are reportedly much closer to signing Michelle Pfeiffer to the show.

They are said to be close to finalizing a deal within a week or two, although Pfeiffer could still walk away at that point if she doesn't like it.

She would play a female lead on the show, giving the new show even more star power than the original Yellowstone, which initially focused largely on Costner, although the supporting cast became increasingly prominent over time.

However, Reilly and Hauser's demands regarding McConaughey and Pfeiffer could complicate negotiations. They both request that their names be listed first in the credits — above McConaughey and Pfeiffer — despite both A-listers being significantly bigger draws.

That demand could well be a maximalist bargaining chip, as it's unlikely to be approved by Paramount, who likely want the two stars at the top of the bill to help publicize the new show.

McConaughey and Pfeiffer would also likely expect top billing, as they are significantly more famous than their potential future co-stars.

To get around Reilly, Hauser and Grimes' requests for higher salaries, Paramount is proposing to use some of their guaranteed salaries for Yellowstone's sixth season – which will not be paid out – to help pay for those increases.

However, the actors are said to be pushing back, saying this would violate the original agreement because they were promised money for season six regardless of whether it was produced, and the increases would have to apply to their new show salaries.

Paramount is reportedly trying to let the actors live with the loss in exchange for potentially years of guaranteed high salaries for the Yellowstone sequel, assuming the success of the original can be matched.

The studio has now reportedly sent a 'hard letter' to end negotiations with a 'take-it-or-leave-it deadline'.
