Insiders claim President Joe Biden is privately “talking” about his disastrous election numbers to his staff and is “angry and concerned” about his 2024 reelection efforts.

The story comes after Biden didn’t get the typical election rating after his State of the Union address last week — and his approval rating is now at a new low of 37.4 percent.

However, reports of the president’s anger date back to January, when aides told him that his voting numbers in the key swing states of Michigan and Georgia had fallen as a result of his handling of Israel’s war against Hamas, although he still believed he had done the same. right thing.

‘He started shouting and cursing’ NBC reports, citing a story that interviewed 20 lawmakers, current and former administration officials and Biden allies.

“President Biden makes national security decisions based solely on the country’s national security needs – and no other factor,” White House spokesman Andrew Bates said in response.

However, allies say Biden’s frustrations are growing as he questions travel choices and apparent inability to communicate his agenda to the American people.

His weak approval rating is well below the last three presidents who failed to win a second term: George HW Bush (39 percent), Jimmy Carter (43 percent) and his November opponent, Donald Trump (48 percent).

The 81-year-old Biden is reportedly unhappy with those who are said to want to “minimize the chance of catching the flu” and says he is cocooned and wants to make his case to the public and thwart Trump.

The president’s temper toward staff has been detailed in the past, with him often yelling at staff and shouting obscenities.

“He’s probably a little mad at himself for not being more forceful with the staff,” a Biden White House insider claimed, adding that he often gets conflicting advice on how to deal with the perception that he’s too old to do the work.

Many polled by NBC agreed that Biden simply needed to be clearer about what he has done for the country during his first term, citing clean energy projects, high-tech manufacturing and infrastructure.

“There’s a real story to be told,” said Biden supporter and ex-Louisiana Senator Mary Landrieu.

‘It’s a winning message and it’s about jobs, prosperity and evolution. If that message can be delivered, I think the American people will respond.”

His weak approval rating is well below the last three presidents who failed to win a second term: George HW Bush (39 percent), Jimmy Carter (43 percent) and his November opponent, Donald Trump (48 percent).

However, some Democrats, such as Washington State Congressman Adam Smith, are losing patience.

“Biden stood up in front of the whole world and said, ‘I’m ready. “I am the man who can take down Donald Trump,” he said.

“So he damn well better do it. We don’t have time for him to worry about whether or not people are saying things right or whether the poll numbers are at the right level. I want focused energy and not defensive anger.”

However, campaign chairman Jen O’Malley Dillon remains confident that once Trump is the clear opponent, Biden can beat him again.

“We know he lost in 2020,” she said. “To win, he must expand his voter base to find new people to join him. And that’s not something he’s shown he’s really focused on.”

Biden and former President Donald Trump both reached the number of delegates their respective parties needed for the 2024 nomination in Tuesday’s primaries.

This means that a rematch between the two geriatrics will take place in November, despite the majority of Americans saying they do not want that.

A Yahoo News/YouGov poll The survey, conducted just days after Biden’s speech to a joint session of Congress on Thursday, shows that the current president’s chances against Trump actually diminished following his fiery comments.

“Biden stood up in front of the whole world and said, 'I'm ready. I am the man who can take down Donald Trump,” said Congressman Adam Smith. “So he damn well better do it.”

Biden, 81, was impassioned throughout his State of the Union address and took several jabs at his “predecessor” and Republicans in the House. But his age was still showing as he coughed, mumbled and stumbled over some parts of his speech

Before the speech, Trump was up 45 to 44 percent over Biden in the late January poll. While the latest recording from March 8 to 11 is still within the polls’ margin of error and amounts to a statistical tie, Trump is now at 46 percent to Biden’s 44 percent in a hypothetical election battle.

The same poll shows Biden’s approval rating dropping from 40 percent to 39 percent before and after the speech. His disapproval went from 56 percent to 55 percent.

But a FiveThirtyEight average shows that the number of Americans who approve of Biden’s job as president has fallen to a new low of 37.4 percent.

A post-State of the Union Harris X poll estimates Biden’s approval at a flat 37 percent and disapproval at 58 percent. But among those in that survey who did watch the State of the Union, 13 percent more approved of Biden’s job as president, compared to those who did not tune in.

In previous years, State of the Union addresses were a way for presidents to address everyone — and often the comments were accompanied by a backlash.

For example, Trump’s approval rose a few percent after his 2019 speech in February of that year.

Before his State of the Union address, his approval rating was about 37 percent, according to Gallup polls. But after the comments, the same poll showed the then-president rising to 44 percent.

Another poll, taken after Biden's comments to a joint session of Congress, shows the president's approval rating at a new low of 37 percent

Another poll, taken after Biden’s comments to a joint session of Congress, shows the president’s approval rating at a new low of 37 percent

Overall, Biden’s final speech of his first term wasn’t exactly the reset the White House was hoping for amid low approval and mounting criticism of the president’s age and fitness for office.

Fifty-one percent of those who watched the State of the Union say Biden looked 81, according to the YouGov poll. Another 24 percent say he seemed “older” than they expected. Only 17 percent say he didn’t seem that old.

Most polls from the past year show that Americans do not want Biden and Trump (77) as two options in the 2024 presidential election.

But after Tuesday’s primaries in the states of Georgia, Mississippi and Washington, that is exactly the general election ballot Americans will receive in November.

Gucci treated a top saleswoman who sold $50 million worth of designer goods like a slave, mocking her age and bullying her until she withered away and her hair fell out, a lawsuit alleges.

Tracy Cohen worked for eighteen years as a customer advisor sales associate for Gucci’s Chicago store on Michigan Avenue. She sold more than $50 million worth of goods, including $5 million in 2021 alone. But in October 2023, she was fired without severance.

Cohen, 54, claims she was discriminated against because of her age and that bosses favored those under 40. She also claims she was targeted because of her gender and disability: anxiety and depression.

She was told she was “crazy” and “old” because she complained about working 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Cohen says she has been denied thousands of commissions to punish her for filing a complaint with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) and the Illinois Human Rights Division.

In the complaint, Cohen alleged that Gucci’s top boss ignored her pleas. When she went to her manager and human resources, hoping to finally get help, she was told she had been suspended and was “being investigated.”

The lawsuit against Kering, Gucci, Gucci, Gucci America, Inc. and Gucci North American Holdings was filed on January 22, 2024 in the US District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, Eastern Division.

The lawsuit alleges that “during her employment, Gucci, instead of wooing her with recognition and giving her opportunities for success, instead consumed nearly every second of her life and exploited her through a modern-day slavery program of psychological abuse, manipulation and discrimination.” with her collaborators – Gucci and Kering – destroying her sense of self and putting her in constant fear of losing her job.”

Cohen was hired by Gucci in 2006. In 2018, she became the number one salesperson at Gucci Chicago, surpassing at least twenty other sales associates. She was responsible for 15 percent of the store’s entire monthly quota.

In 2021 – the year she moved $5 million worth of goods – she received a bonus of just $20,000, it is claimed.

According to the complaint, Gucci and Kering devised an elaborate scheme of deception to induce Cohen to sell more Gucci products while she remained in fear of losing her job.

“Defendants controlled nearly all aspects of Plaintiff’s life by isolating her from society, requiring her to work 24 hours a day while connected to her electronic sales equipment, making negative comments about her age and mental health, and giving her a monthly sales quota that was nearly two to three times the quota of her peers,” the complaint said.

When she was suspended, something that has never happened in her 18-year career, she was told she was “under investigation.”

The company continued to punish her, telling her she could still sell from home during the five-day suspension. But bosses banned her from speaking to any of her co-workers while she was “under investigation,” further isolating, traumatizing and bullying her, the lawsuit alleges.

The lawsuit alleges that co-workers confided in her that they witnessed the suspects assaulting her, but never came to her aid. Instead, they watched her physically deteriorate,” the complaint said.

A male employee under the age of 40 told him, “Why don’t you just quit,” after watching her manager bully her, according to the complaint.

She was also denied an assistant to help her manage her excessive workload, according to the complaint.

“Plaintiff continued to work under exploitative conditions as her hair fell out, and as she visibly wasted away to skin and bones, suffering the physical manifestation of Defendants’ disparate treatment of her,” the complaint said.

While in the top position, she continually told her superiors that she was suffering from exhaustion, anxiety and depression, and that their behavior was exacerbating her disabilities.”

When she confronted both Gucci and Kering, she claimed the managers had bullied her. When she asked to be transferred to another store, they refused, while transferring younger, non-disabled, less successful colleagues to other locations.

In September 2022, when she went to then-president and CEO of Gucci, Marco Bizzarri, who had reportedly created a “values framework” dedicated to women’s rights and equality in the workplace, hoping she would listen to him, the lawsuit that he ignored it.

“President Bizzarri ignored Plaintiff, the female employee who generated nearly $50 million in revenue for Gucci and Kering during her nearly 18-year career,” the lawsuit said.

Cohen claims in the lawsuit that she was excluded from prestigious opportunities, and that she felt guilty when she tried to take time off. One such instance was when her father was dying and she had to care for him, she claimed.

In March 2022, when She was asked to nominate a dear customer for Billie Eilish concert tickets. Management told her her customer choice was too old, according to a letter reviewed by DailyMail.com.

“I believe the business community is looking for Gen Z or Millennial customers – he could be a good fit for Elton John,” the letter said in part.

The lawsuit also details Gucci’s alleged abusive and exploitative labor practices around the world. Cohen says Gucci officials maintained sweatshop conditions in China, forced pregnant women to have abortions and ignored sexual harassment complaints.

She further highlighted the luxury goods giant’s alleged decision to push new mothers out of their jobs, leaving women suffering from incontinence, calling women “crazy” and forcing female models to wear straitjackets against their will on the catwalk.

Cohen’s attorney Tamara Holder told DailyMail.com that “they fired her because she spoke out.”

“We’re highlighting Tracy’s case, but other women are coming forward. We look forward to the opportunity to showcase how these fashion brands treat women in the workplace.

“We have had other women come forward – high-achieving women – from other locations,” she added.

Holder said the first interaction she had with the lawyers was a “threat” and plans to litigate it in court.

“The threat was that they demanded I drop the human trafficking charges from the lawsuit and threatened me with sanctions if I didn’t do so.”

Holder said that since the story broke, five additional women from the Seattle area, Houston and California have come forward.

Holder said: ‘All from various Gucci retail locations across the country with virtually identical claims.’

Editor’s note: The University of Michigan announced Friday afternoon that Juwan Howard will not return as head basketball coach next season.

Crisler Center was mostly empty the night of March 4, 2021, but Michigan basketball brought the place to life. A win over rival Michigan State secured a conference title in a season shaped by pandemic restrictions, and players danced around a confetti-covered court, hoisting a “Big Ten Champions” sign. It was an achievement of resolve, one that would result in a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament for only the third time in program history.

Stepping away from the party, Juwan Howard surveyed a building with fewer than 200 people inside. He locked eyes with Warde Manuel, the Michigan athletic director who hired him. They pointed to one another. Then Howard squinted, looking up at Section 114, finding John Beilein, the man he replaced as Michigan coach and the program’s all-time wins leader. Beilein pointed down at him; Howard tapped his chest and pointed back.

The postgame celebration felt as much about where the program was going than what it had achieved.

When Howard, then 46, was hired by his alma mater in May 2019, he had never before coached college basketball. But he returned to Ann Arbor with a quarter-century of NBA experience, infinite respect in the game, and Fab Five roots that the program had long needed to reconnect with. At his introductory news conference, Howard brushed away what he called “tears of joy” and told the gathered crowd, “My heart is with Michigan and will always be that way.”

Any concerns about his staying power were dashed by a second season ending with a 23-5 record and a trip to the Elite Eight. He was named national coach of the year and lined up an incoming 2022 recruiting class featuring three McDonald’s All-Americans. Year 3 wasn’t so smooth, but ended in the Sweet 16, nevertheless. The program’s biggest concern was NBA teams swarming to poach the coach each offseason, but Howard swatted away rumors.

Three years later, it’s impossible to square such a promising beginning with the current view.

Having missed last year’s NCAA Tournament, Michigan fell to unthinkable depths this season. An 8-24 record is the program’s worst in 40 years. Its regular season ended with eight straight losses by an average deficit of nearly 19 points. A 3-17 Big Ten record cemented a last-place conference finish for the first time since 1966-67. Crisler Center has been empty and lifeless but for very different reasons than 2021.

On Wednesday night in Minneapolis, Michigan lost 66-57 to Penn State in a predictably brief visit to the Big Ten tournament.

The season began in flux after heart surgery sidelined Howard for the preseason and much of November and December. The roster wasn’t good enough. Over the last two summers, the program lost four underclassmen to the NBA, an All-American to the transfer portal, and suffered from school admissions blocking some portal additions. In early February, Howard noted that “buy-in has to be reciprocated (by players)” but said he isn’t questioning his approach. “This sh– works,” he told reporters.

But the program’s present issues seem to run deeper than its play on the court.

That’s why a makeshift meeting room was assembled inside Michigan Stadium last week. There, officials from Rankin Climate, an external firm specializing in organizational “climate assessments,” convened to conduct a probe into the culture of the men’s basketball program. Rankin officials asked some athletic department employees about their experiences in the program, Howard’s leadership and support offered by the athletic department. Those interviewed were told that participation was voluntary, according to multiple university employees granted anonymity because they are not permitted to speak about the investigation.

The review, following claims made by former Michigan strength and conditioning coach Jon Sanderson, marked a new flashpoint for a program looking to find a floor in such a precarious fall. It also complicates the task facing Manuel, who must weigh what was versus what is, and how much trust and faith are owed to one of Michigan’s own.

Hired in May 2019, Howard built a staff that locked in for the long run. He retained assistant coach Saddi Washington, listened to advice from Kentucky coach John Calipari to hire an experienced consigliere named Phil Martelli, and tapped New York Knicks assistant Howard Eisley, a lifelong friend and Detroit native. Other internal support staff also remained in place, notably strength and conditioning coach Jon Sanderson, whom Beilein hired in 2009.

Four years later, the staff remained entirely unchanged. The lack of turnover was considered a major asset when Howard was forced to step away following his September heart procedure.

But then came early December and a moment that now in many ways threatens the whole of the parts.

Following a Dec. 7 disagreement between a trainer and senior guard Jace Howard, Juwan’s 22-year-old son, tempers flared, resulting in a scene that Sanderson later described as “totally out of control.” In his account, described in an email to Manuel and later obtained by The Athletic, Sanderson intervened in the spat between Jace Howard and the trainer, which upset Juwan Howard. Sanderson wrote that he tried to de-escalate the situation, turning his back and walking away. But he said Juwan Howard came at him “angry and ready to fight,” repeatedly yelling as players and staff held him back. News of the incident emerged days later when Sanderson did not travel with the Wolverines to a road game at Iowa.

On Dec. 15, following a human resources review, the university cleared Howard of any wrongdoing. In a statement, Manuel said “nothing was found to warrant disciplinary action for anyone involved.”

Juwan Howard has never publicly addressed the incident, telling reporters to refer to Manuel’s statement, saying, “I think it was clear. It was precise.”

Sanderson spent the ensuing weeks working primarily with some of the school’s Olympic sports teams.

Two weeks ago, Sanderson officially parted ways with the university after 15 years. The athletic department said Sanderson resigned from his post; two sources briefed on the agreement confirmed he reached a settlement that included a non-disclosure clause.

While Sanderson’s departure seemingly put an end to the December incident, broader concerns voiced by Sanderson in the days after the altercation ultimately became the focus of the recent investigation into the program’s culture.

According to documents obtained by The Athletic, which include emails between Sanderson and athletic department officials along with the letter from Steven Stapleton, Sanderson’s attorney, Sanderson alleged that Howard physically threatened one of Howard’s sons – then a player on the team – during a 2022-23 practice and bullied members of his basketball staff.

“There is a culture of fear within the MBB (men’s basketball) program and concern for retaliation by Coach Howard that has prevented staff from coming forward earlier, but now it is time to address that abhorrent culture,” Stapleton wrote in a letter emailed to Manuel on Dec. 11, 2023.

Sanderson claims Howard approached his son, Jett, visibly angry during a 2022-23 practice and threatened, “I’ll slap the sh– out of you,” adding the incident “sparked a lot of internal conversation.” Sanderson said one coach on staff said he saw Juwan Howard “manhandle” Jett on the side of the court; that coach expressed that he was upset with how Jett was being treated.

Other allegations levied by Sanderson include bullying behavior directed toward members of the coaching staff and others.

“There are troubling issues within the program and it is clear that Head Coach Juwan Howard has created an intolerable environment for both staff and Student Athletes,” Stapleton wrote in the letter.

Michigan declined to comment to The Athletic, citing a previous statement that Manuel plans to review the program after the season.

Sanderson, who recently joined Illinois basketball in a consulting role for 2024 postseason play, also declined to comment.

The complexity surrounding Sanderson’s claims is what preceded them. The most high-profile moment of Howard’s coaching tenure remains his actions following a game at Wisconsin in February 2022. Howard attempted to walk past Badgers coach Greg Gard in the handshake line but was stopped by the Wisconsin head coach in mid-stride. The two coaches exchanged heated words before things escalated. Amid the disorder, Howard struck Badgers assistant coach Joe Krabbenhoft in the head. He said in a news conference afterward that someone touched him and “I thought it was time to protect myself.”

Manuel called the Wisconsin incident “unacceptable behavior” and the Big Ten suspended Howard for the final five games of the 2021-22 regular season and fined him $40,000. In a statement released by the university after his suspension was announced, Howard apologized. “After taking time to reflect on all that happened, I realize how unacceptable both my actions and words were, and how they affected so many,” he said. “I am truly sorry.”

That incident came only a year after Howard was involved in a blowup with Maryland coach Mark Turgeon. In the 2021 conference tournament, Turgeon stepped toward Howard, Howard stepped toward Turgeon, and both sidelines rushed in to separate the two. Howard was issued double technical fouls, ejected, and escorted off the floor, while Turgeon received a technical. According to a source involved in the matter, the official report submitted to the Big Ten office from the incident stated Howard yelled to Turgeon, “I’ll f—— kill you.” Howard was not punished following that incident.

Now the conversation is not only centered on another physical altercation, but on the culture of the program. It’s unclear how many individuals participated in last week’s external probe and what findings have been delivered to the school.

“You don’t see it, but behind closed doors, I feel like our culture is good,” said Terrance Williams II, a Michigan senior and member of Howard’s second recruiting class, after Wednesday’s season-ending loss. “I feel like Coach Howard is doing a good job, and he’s going to continue to do a good job.”

Juwan Howard walked across the Crisler Center floor a week before Christmas, pumping a fist both in celebration, and relief. An easy win over visiting Eastern Michigan marked his first game in a full head-coaching capacity since easing back from open-heart surgery. He would say later the procedure felt like getting “hit by a Mack truck” and that he lost over 30 pounds in a recovery that required 15 days in the hospital.

Celebrating the comeback, Michigan president Santa Ono embraced Howard before leaving the floor that day. It had been, at the time, less than 24 hours since Howard was cleared of wrongdoing in the Sanderson incident.

Now, three months later, Ono, the first-year university president, is entrusting Manuel to decide if Howard will spend a sixth season in Ann Arbor. The 51-year-old has two years remaining on a contract extension paying nearly $3.4 million annually. It was signed in November 2021, when he was the reigning national coach of the year.

Manuel, in his eighth year as athletic director, and himself a constant target of fan ire, told reporters in February that he hadn’t considered the idea of a change in leadership of the men’s basketball program. Whether that’s still the case, and whether Ono supports that stance, remains to be seen.

Michigan’s decline can’t be seen as a one-off event specific to 2023-24. Last year, despite having All-American center Hunter Dickinson and Kobe Bufkin and Jett Howard, the Wolverines finished the regular season 17-14 and missed the NCAA Tournament. Dickinson transferred to Kansas in the offseason, while Bufkin and Howard were both selected in the first round of the NBA Draft.

Michigan’s slide has been a gradual one; one stemming as much from damning miscalculations in roster construction as anything else. Multiple times Howard went to great efforts recruiting underclassmen transfers who couldn’t clear Michigan’s admission requirements. But a program like Michigan doesn’t find itself in its current state due to one or two reasons. It’s a culmination.

Whether Manuel and Michigan afford Howard the chance to reboot the program or not comes with a dash of historical symmetry. In 2020, many Michigan fans and leaders were adamant the football program needed to move on from Jim Harbaugh. Instead, Manuel restructured the polarizing coach’s contract and stuck with him. Three years later, the program won a national title.

Howard told reporters in Minneapolis on Wednesday night that he had yet to speak to Manuel about his status as head coach and repeated his clear desire to be the one to fix Michigan basketball next year.

The question now is whether he is going to get that chance.

A jury found James Crumbley guilty of involuntary manslaughter late Thursday after about 11 hours of deliberation, holding him partly responsible for failing to prevent his son from carrying out Michigan’s deadliest school shooting.

Mr. Crumbley’s wife, Jennifer Crumbley, was convicted of identical charges last month in the same courtroom in Pontiac, Michigan, after a jury deliberated for about the same amount of time. The trials became a lightning rod for issues of parental responsibility at a time of high-profile gun violence by minors.

Each defendant’s parenting skills were closely monitored, as was the shooter’s access to a gun his father had purchased. Now two separate juries have taken the unusual step of holding a parent criminally responsible for a child’s heinous crimes.

Oakland County prosecutors charged the Crumbleys three days after the Nov. 30, 2021, shooting at Oxford High School, where their son, Ethan, who was 15 at the time, killed 17-year-old Madisyn Baldwin; Tate Myre, 16; Justin Shilling, 17; and Hana St. Juliana, 14, and injured seven others.

“James Crumbley had the easiest and most striking opportunities to prevent the deaths of these four students,” Oakland County Prosecutor Karen McDonald said in his closing argument Wednesday. “And he did nothing.”

Mariell Lehman, Mr Crumbley’s lawyer, urged the jury to take into account how much Mr Crumbley could not have known until it was too late. “You have heard no testimony, and you have seen no evidence, that James had any knowledge that his son was a danger to anyone,” she said.

Mr Crumbley has been in prison since December 2021. He and his wife requested separate trials and unlike them, Mr. Crumbley chose not to testify in his own defense. Both will be convicted later and face up to 15 years in prison.

Their prosecution was seen as part of a national effort to hold some parents responsible for enabling deadly violence by their children. In recent months, parents in other states have pleaded guilty to charges of reckless endangerment or neglect after their children injured or killed others with weapons.

The witness lists in the two Crumbley trials were similar, but there were a few key differences in the evidence presented. During Ms. Crumbley’s trial, lawyers delved into her communications with her son, including months of text messages, as prosecutors tried to portray her as a distant and neglectful mother.

But in Mr. Crumbley’s case, testimony focused less on his parenting and more on the Sig Sauer pistol that prosecutors say he bought his son as an early Christmas present four days before the shooting.

Law enforcement officers who searched the Crumbleys’ home shortly after the attack testified this week that they found the gun storage case open on the parents’ bed, along with an empty box of ammunition. They said there was no indication the case had been closed.

In her closing argument Wednesday, Ms. Lehman said that Mr. Crumbley did not know before the shooting whether his son was aware of the gun’s hiding place. During her rebuttal, Ms. McDonald put on a pair of gloves, picked up the murder weapon and a cable lock and demonstrated for the jury that the gun could be locked in seconds.

Prosecutors also walked the jury through several entries in the shooter’s diary, including one that appeared to have been written the day before the shooting. “I have access to the weapon and ammunition,” the entry said. “I am now fully committed to this.”

It was not clear whether either of the shooter’s parents had seen the journal entries before the shooting. But they were called to school on the morning of November 30 after a teacher saw their son making violent drawings. Those drawings included an object resembling the gun Mr Crumbley had bought, and phrases such as ‘help me’ and ‘blood everywhere’.

Neither the Crumbleys nor school officials searched the teen’s backpack, which contained the gun.

Mr Crumbley, dressed in a gray suit and blue tie, appeared somber and shook his head slightly on Thursday evening as the jury’s four guilty verdicts – one for each charge of involuntary manslaughter – were announced. Sheriff’s Department officers then handcuffed him and led him out of the courtroom.

Prosecutors called 15 witnesses in Mr. Crumbley’s trial, including people who saw the shooting and law enforcement officers who investigated it. The defense called only one witness: Karen Crumbley, the defendant’s sister. She said she had never seen a reason to be overly concerned about her cousin until the shooting.

According to his lawyer, neither did Mr. Crumbley.

“He didn’t know,” Ms. Lehman told the jury. “He didn’t know what was going on with his son. He didn’t know what his son was planning to do.”

Ethan Crumbley pleaded guilty to 24 charges stemming from the shooting, including the first-degree murder of his four classmates. He was sentenced last year to life in prison without the possibility of parole and has not testified in any of the trials against his parents.

Christie Brinkley once earned the nickname Uptown Girl after she inspired her former husband Billy Joel’s hit song of the same name.

And while it may be a fitting moniker when it comes to her immensely successful career and quick ascent to the top of the modeling world, the same can’t be said of her personal life.

On first glance, it seems the former catwalk queen’s story is a glittering tale of a small town girl who achieved a fairytale ending filled with fame, wealth, and dazzling success in front of the camera.

But if you take a closer look into Christie’s life behind the glitz and glamor, her story is actually filled with a series of devastating tragedies and terrifying health woes.

Former supermodel Christie Brinkley announced that she had been diagnosed with skin cancer this week

Christie’s life has been filled with a series of devastating tragedies and terrifying health woes, including the death of her boyfriend, a bitter divorce battle, and an explosive cheating scandal

The supermodel has endured numerous heartbreaks over the years, including the death of her boyfriend and a bitter divorce battle that saw the sordid details of her husband’s infidelities laid bare to the entire world.

After three failed marriages in quick succession, Christie was convinced she had finally found her soulmate when she walked down the aisle a fourth time to Peter Halsey Cook in 1996.

But what she thought would be her long-deserved happily ever after ultimately turned into her biggest nightmare – when a man approached her at a local event and told her, ‘Your husband is having an affair with my teenage daughter.’

Christie’s entire world began crumble as she unraveled the layers upon layers of her husband’s lies.

Not only was he cheating on her with an 18-year-old, but he had also secretly signed up for a porn website and was sharing crude videos and images of himself on the internet while searching for more mistresses.

A horrified Christie quickly filed for divorce, unknowing that it would launch an explosive, years-long court showdown between her and her now-ex-husband that brought every aspect of the controversial affair into the spotlight.

The cheating scandal was only one of the many devastations that Christie has had to endure over the years.

In addition to her rocky love life, she’s also faced a series of health scares and gruesome injuries – including a terrifying helicopter crash that left her in pain for more than 20 years.

Christie was also forced to get emergency surgery in 2019 after she suffered from a terrible fall while rehearsing for Dancing With the Stars that completely ‘shattered’ her arm.

In the latest terrible twist to Christie’s story, the former Sports Illustrated Swimsuit star revealed this week that she had been diagnosed with skin cancer.

As she shares the shocking news with the world, FEMAIL has recapped her rollercoaster ride journey from start to finish.

From her impressive modeling career that has seen her grace the cover of more than 500 magazines to her husband’s shocking affair, her multiple surgeries, and now, her newly-announced cancer battle, take a look back at Christie’s many career highs and personal lows.

Christie’s quick rise to the top: How she went from a small town girl to a top supermodel and catwalk queen that now has a net worth of $100 million

Christie was born in Monroe, Michigan, on February 2, 1954, but she moved to Los Angeles, California, at a young age when her mom married acclaimed TV writer and producer Donald Brinkley.

After she graduated from the elite private school Le Lycée Français de Los Angeles in 1972, Christie moved to Paris, France, so she could study art.

One year later, she was discovered by photographer Errol Sawyer after he noticed her in a post office in the French city.

Errol became instantly drawn in by her bright blue eyes, golden hair, and dazzling smile, and insisted on photographing her.

He then helped introduce her to modeling executive Eileen Ford, who asked her to come to California for a lunch meeting with her assistant – and by the end of that meal, despite having no experience, Christie had already booked three national campaigns.

After that, the young model burst onto the scene.

She landed the cover of Glamour magazine, booked a 25-year contract with CoverGirl, and graced the front of Sports Illustrated Swimsuit three years in a row – in 1979, 1980, and 1981.

She also posed for a ton of well-known magazines, including Vogue, Rolling Stone, Esquire, Harper’s Bazaar, and Cosmopolitan, to name a few – racking up more than 500 magazine covers during her heyday.

Christie also entered the world of acting, making an appearance in the 1983 film National Lampoon’s Vacation, as well as its 1987 sequel, Vegas Vacation.

She also had a guest role in NBC’s Mad About You in 1994, which became the network’s highest-rated 30-minute episode at the time.

Then, in 1992, the supermodel landed her own CNN show, entitled Living in the 90s – With Christie Brinkley.

Her more recent roles include the 2011 comedy Jack and Jill, the NBC show Parks and Recreation, and the sitcom Nightcap.

That’s not all. She also wrote and illustrated her own book on health and beauty, called Christie Brinkley’s Outdoor Beauty and Fitness Book, in 1983, released her own fragrance in 1998, entitled Believe, and teamed up with Swank to drop a jewelry collection.

The catwalk queen is now also a vastly successful business woman, and has been behind numerous companies, including a beauty brand called Christie Brinkley Authentic Skin Care, a hair extension line called Hair2Wear, a sparkling wine label called Bellissima Prosecco, and an eyewear collection called Christie Brinkley Eyewear.

Her net worth was estimated to be at a whopping $100 million as of 2023.

While Christie’s career has soared, it’s hard to say the same for her personal life.

The supermodel has spent decades looking for love, walking down the aisle four different times – only for each one to tragically end in divorce.

She has endured heartbreak after heartbreak, suffering from the horrific death of a boyfriend, a blistering divorce battle, and an explosive cheating scandal when it was revealed that her husband had been embroiled in a secret affair with a teenager.

Christie first walked down the aisle in 1973, when she was only 19 years old and living in Paris, to a French artist named Jean-François Allaux.

They were together for eight years before they ultimately split in 1981.

After that, she started dating race car driver and French champagne heir Olivier Chandon de Brailles – but he tragically passed away in a horrific car crash in 1983, one year after they got together.

Christie moved on with musician Billy soon after, who she had met months before Olivier’s shock death while they were both on vacation in St. Barts.

The Piano Man singer once explained that he reached out to Christie after he heard that her boyfriend had died to offer his condolences, they struck up a friendship, and things eventually turned romantic.

The two started dating while he was still in a relationship with Elle Macpherson, as Billy wrote in his 2014 memoir, Billy Joel: The Definitive Biography, that he once brought Christie home while Elle was already asleep in his bed.

‘Part of me thought, “Oh god,”‘ he recalled. ‘Another part of me was going, “Holy crap, if my friends could see me now.”‘

Elle once told Andy Cohen on Watch What Happens Live, ‘There was some overlap. Yeah, I got ousted.’

Immediately, since Christie was at the height of her modeling career and Billy was a massive music star, the world quickly became enthralled with the couple.

The public’s obsession with the pairing only heightened when he released his massive hit Uptown Girl in late 1982, which was inspired by his love for Christie; she also starred in the music video for it.

Christie and Billy officially married in March 1985 on a 147-foot yacht off the New York harbor, and they welcomed a daughter together, named Alexa Ray, later that year.

But in August of 1994, the couple shocked the world when they announced that they were getting a divorce.

Christie later shed some info on what went wrong, stating in a 2001 interview, ‘Just because people can express themselves through their art doesn’t mean they are great communicators in person.’

Following her and Billy’s split, the star struck up a romance with real estate mogul Richard Taubman after they were introduced by a mutual friend.

They exchanged vows in December of that year – almost as soon as her divorce from Billy was finalized – and announced that they were expecting their first child together soon after.

They welcomed their daughter, named Sailor Lee, in 1998, and it seemed like Christie had finally gotten her happy ever after.

‘I finally have what I always wanted – a husband who is so involved in the family, who cares about it with every ounce of his being, who is there for us,’ she gushed following the birth of their daughter.

On the outside, the couple looked picture-perfect, but behind close doors, the marriage was plagued by Peter’s infidelities – which were brought to light during their explosive divorce trial years later.

The couple announced that they were ending their marriage in 2006 after a decade together, and soon, the sordid details of his wrongdoings began to emerge.

Soon after news hit the web that they were divorcing, an 18-year-old woman named Diana Bianchi came forward and claimed that then-47-year-old Peter had been cheating on Christie with her.

In an explosive interview with the New York Post, Diane said that she had been seduced by the architect while she was working as his employee, eventually striking up a romantic love affair that went on for months while he was still married to the supermodel.

During their divorce trial two years later, Christie took to the stand and told the jury that she found out he was cheating in June 2006, and it ‘completely shattered’ her whole ‘world.’

After that, Christie said she looked through his computer and not only discovered racy messages between him and teenager Diana, but also came across his $3,000-a-month subscription to a porn site.

She told the court that she was horrified to find that he had used his computer webcam to record himself masturbating and had uploaded naked photos of himself to the site.

‘It was not [only] a voyeur site. It was a meeting site,’ she added. ‘It was more than I could bear.’

The divorce was ultimately settled in 2012 after a multi-year-long court battle. Christie had to pay Peter $2.1 million but was given full custody of their daughter and got to keep their whopping 18 properties – which likely added up to more than $2.1 million.

Peter later spoke about the affair to ABC News, stating, ‘I was seeking a connection I could not find in my own marriage.

I think the emotional aspect of our lives had changed. I think we were both feeling more like we were living with a brother and sister than a life partner.

‘I think I just suddenly realized when I was getting attention from someone else that this is something that is missing in my life.’

When asked to expand further on what was ‘missing’ from his marriage to Christie, he added, ‘I wanted a little acknowledgement, a little attention, a little thank you every now and then for my efforts, for the amount of time I took to care for her and my family, for the wealth I was building.

‘Just the tremendous amount of work I was putting into my family. My world became her world. It had to be that way.

Since then, she hasn’t been linked to anyone, but in 2022, she admitted to Hello! that while she was not ‘looking for romance’ she hadn’t given up on finding love.

She also confessed at the time that her friends had just ‘set her up’ on a blind date.

‘I am not looking for romance – there is an expression when you don’t look, it happens so I haven’t been looking for a while and maybe it will happen,’ she shared.

‘It’s not very often my friends set me up, but recently a friend has sort of made an introduction so we’ll see what happens.’

The model faced another horrific blow when it was reported that her eldest daughter, Alexa, who she shares with Billie, had attempted suicide in 2009 by purposely overdosing on sleeping pills.

The aspiring singer was rushed to the hospital and thankfully survived.

In the months before the incident, Alexa, who had just moved out of her family home and into her own West Village apartment, had shared a series of worrisome posts online.

‘I’ve really been having a hard time with everything lately, between moving into my new apartment and getting used to living alone… I was crying my eyes out tonight,’ she wrote in one post. ‘I felt overwhelmed and terribly lonely.’

Christie later said in 2010. She said, 'I told Alexa, "You got yourself worked into such a tizzy. You need to examine that, you need to seek professional advice."' They're seen in 2019

Christie later reflected on her daughter’s struggles to Home Journal in 2010.

‘Your job as a parent is to listen. And to dole out as much love as you can. That includes tough love,’ she said.

‘I told Alexa, “You got yourself worked into such a tizzy. You need to examine that, you need to seek professional advice.”‘

The mom-of-three added that Alexa was going through a heartbreak at the time, and was ‘trying to do something dramatic to prove to her boyfriend how much he had hurt her.’

‘I think many people can relate to that excruciating pain of love gone wrong. I’d rather have a broken arm than a broken heart,’ she joked.

She also insisted that it was ‘homeopathic aspirin’ that Alexa had taken, adding, ‘She’s not the kind of kid who hangs around clubs and does drugs.’

Her numerous health woes and terrifying near-death accident: Christie was involved in a horrific helicopter crash in the ’90s that left her with injuries that would plagued her for decades

Long before her recent cancer diagnosis, Christie faced numerous other health woes – and she even once suffered from a terrifying near-death accident.

In 1994, while she was on a ski trip with friends in Telluride, Colorado, the model was involved in a horrific helicopter crash.

It was said that Christie and five others became ‘trapped’ on a mountain amid ‘heavy winds and snow’ for over five hours after the aircraft went down – before finally getting rescued.

She later recalled thinking to People, ‘I am going to die. Right now? Like this? A ski trip? Today?

‘All of a sudden I said, [my daughter’s name] Alexa. I suddenly thought, “I am her mother, and she needs me. I am not going to die. I refuse. I won’t.”‘

While at the time it was reported that she had only suffered ‘minor injuries,’ the model has been open about how the incident lead to many health complications ever since.

And in 2021, she revealed that she had to undergo a hip replacement due to the crash, 26 years after it happened.

‘I injured my hip in a back country skiing helicopter crash on a mountaintop in Telluride many years ago. The pain in my hip got a little bit worse each year,’ she wrote on Instagram at the time.

’12 years ago I was told it needed to be replaced but the surgery was daunting. And I had things to do.

Michigan will no longer allow guns intended for destruction to be sold as parts online — a change prompted by public anger over revelations that firearms turned in through buyback programs were not destroyed as promised.

Michigan State Police, responsible for collecting unwanted firearms from local law enforcement, said Tuesday that the weapons would now be crushed “in their entirety” and melted down at a scrap metal site. The agency said it removed 11,582 weapons last year.

The policy change came after The New York Times reported in December that communities across the country that claimed to be taking guns off the streets through buyback programs and eliminating confiscated or surplus guns were allowing them back on the market. Cities handed the guns over to companies that had a single regulated part containing the serial number; the companies then sold the rest of the parts online, often as nearly complete weapon sets.

Some law enforcement officials and gun control advocates worried that the kits were being used to build so-called ghost guns — untraceable homemade firearms.

The largest of the cleanup companies, Gunbusters of Missouri, said it had seized more than 200,000 guns from about 950 law enforcement agencies over the past decade; The Michigan State Police was the largest customer. After the Times investigation, community leaders and government officials in Michigan raised objections to the arrangement, and state police said in January that they would rate it againleading to the announcement on Tuesday.

“This new method will improve public safety by ensuring that all parts of a firearm are destroyed and never used again,” said Col. James F. Grady II, director of the state police.

Outside of Michigan, members of Congress have also raised concerns about the inability to ensure that guns collected through buyback events are not completely destroyed, contrary to what the public has been led to believe. In a typical buyback, people are encouraged to turn in firearms to police in exchange for a gift card or other incentive.

Citing the Times article, Reps. Dan Goldman of New York and Gabe Amo of Rhode Island, both Democrats, said wrote a letter to ask the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives to take steps to stop the resale of gun parts. The agency’s position was that, under the law, discarding just that one regulated part — called the receiver or frame — is enough to consider the gun inoperable and destroyed.

“We are concerned that current ATF guidance on the destruction of firearms does not address this regulatory gap,” the congressmen’s letter said.

Although the remaining gun parts are not subject to regulation, the ATF issued a statement in December saying the “recommended best practice” is for law enforcement agencies to “destroy the entire firearm, including any unregulated parts.”

“This is particularly the case given the increasing criminal use of untraceable, privately made firearms (‘ghost guns’), which are often assembled from used firearm parts,” the statement said.

Testimony ended Wednesday morning in the trial of James Crumbley, whose son carried out Michigan’s deadliest school shooting more than two years ago, and whose wife was convicted in the same courtroom last month of failing to prevent the disaster.

Prosecutors took the rare step of holding the Crumbleys partially responsible for the Nov. 30, 2021, shooting at Oxford High School, in which their son Ethan, who was 15 at the time, killed four people and injured seven others.

“That nightmare was preventable and foreseeable,” Oakland County District Attorney Marc Keast said in an opening statement last week. He accused Mr Crumbley of failing to secure the gun his son used in the shooting.

Mr. Crumbley has been in jail since December 2021, when he and his wife, Jennifer Crumbley, were each charged with four counts of involuntary manslaughter. They requested separate trials, and unlike his wife, Mr. Crumbley chose not to testify in his own defense.

The witness lists in the two trials were similar, but there were a few key differences in the evidence presented.

During Ms. Crumbley’s trial, lawyers delved into her communications with her son, including months of text messages, as prosecutors tried to portray her as a distant and neglectful mother.

But in Mr. Crumbley’s case, the testimony focused less on his parenting and more on the Sig Sauer pistol he bought for his son as an early Christmas present four days before the shooting.

Law enforcement officers who searched the Crumbleys’ home shortly after the crash testified this week that they found the gun storage case open on the parents’ bed, along with an empty box of ammunition. They said there was no indication the case had been closed.

Officials walked the jury through several entries in the shooter’s diary, including one that appeared to have been written the day before the shooting. “I have access to the weapon and ammunition,” the entry said. “I am now fully committed to this.”

It was not clear whether either of the shooter’s parents had seen the journal entries before the shooting.

Mariell Lehman, Mr. Crumbley’s lawyer, said in her opening statements last week that her client did not know his son had access to the gun, and that he had no reason to believe his son would act violently.

“James Crumbley didn’t know what his son was going to do,” she said. “He did not know that his son could possibly harm other people. He didn’t know what his son was planning to do.”

The jury will hear closing arguments on Wednesday afternoon.

Opening statements will begin Thursday morning in the trial of James Crumbley, in the same courtroom in Pontiac, Michigan, where his wife was convicted last month of failing to stop their son from committing the worst school shooting in Michigan history to be carried out.

Mr. Crumbley faces the same charges as his wife, Jennifer Crumbley: four counts of involuntary manslaughter for the four students killed by their son, who was 15 when he opened fire in an Oxford High hallway on Nov. 30, 2021 School.

The teen, Ethan, pleaded guilty last year to 24 charges, including first-degree murder. But in a rare move, prosecutors have also sought to hold his parents criminally responsible, saying they ignored warning signs about their son’s mental health and plans for the deadly rampage that also injured seven people.

Their lawyers have said the couple had no idea their son was capable of such violence, and Mrs Crumbley, 45, testified she had not seen him as a danger to others. However, jurors found her guilty after eleven hours of deliberation.

Mr. Crumbley, 47, who requested a separate trial, will face a different jury, but with many of the same arguments made by prosecutors, along with an additional factor for jurors to consider: He bought the 9-millimeter Sig Sauer pistol his son used. to kill his classmates, Madisyn Baldwin, 17; Tate Myre, 16; Justin Shilling, 17; and Hana St. Juliana, 14.

That purchase, which came four days before the shooting and was intended as an early Christmas gift, “is the one differentiator that makes his case more of an uphill battle” for Mr. Crumbley, said Mark Chutkow, a lawyer and former federal prosecutor. in Michigan.

But, he added, involuntary manslaughter is a charge that can be interpreted broadly, leaving jurors plenty of room for subjectivity — and no guarantee that prosecutors can obtain a second conviction.

“It’s a different jury,” Mr. Chutkow said. “And every time you have a new business, it’s like rolling the dice again.”

At her trial last month, Ms Crumbley was described by prosecutors as a distant and neglectful mother who had an extramarital affair and sometimes showed more interest in caring for her horses than her son. But prosecutors could take a different approach with Mr. Crumbley, who was videotaped at a police station shortly after the shooting repeatedly saying “I love you” to his son and then sobbing before an interview with officers.

“I think he has more opportunities to portray a more sympathetic portrait of himself,” Mr. Chutkow said.

Prosecutors will most likely focus on how the teen gained access to the gun, which he brought to school in his backpack. Neither his parents nor school officials searched the bag the morning of the attack, when the Crumbleys were called to a meeting with a counselor after a teacher saw Ethan making violent drawings.

In her testimony last month, Mrs Crumbley said her husband was more familiar with firearms and was responsible for storing the weapon.

However, at the time of the shooting, Michigan did not require adults to keep guns in their homes, out of the reach of children. State legislators legislation passed last year requiring firearms stored in the presence of minors to be unloaded and locked up. The rules came into effect last month.

During Ms Crumbley’s trial, prosecutors also introduced evidence, including multiple text messages, showing that Ethan had been struggling with mental health issues in the months before the shooting. He claimed his house was haunted and that he heard or saw things that weren’t there.

Several of those messages were sent to a friend, and some to Mrs Crumbley. It was unclear whether Ethan had shared similar texts with his father, but messages exchanged by the Crumbleys suggest the couple was aware of their son’s distress to some extent.

Ethan had also kept a diary in which he wrote about a plan to cause bloodshed. “My parents won’t listen to me when it comes to help or a therapist,” he wrote. Judge Cheryl A. Matthews, who also presided over his wife’s case, last month denied Mr. Crumbley declined to exclude his son’s diary entries and text messages from evidence.

It is unclear whether Mr. Crumbley will testify in his own defense, as his wife did. His attorney did not respond to requests for comment. Mrs. Crumbley cannot be forced to testify against her husband.

Ethan is unlikely to testify. During his mother’s trial, Judge Matthews did not require him to do so because he was expected to invoke his Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination. The teen was sentenced to life in prison without parole in December, but can still appeal his sentence.

Ms Crumbley’s conviction may also be appealed. She will be sentenced next month and faces up to 15 years in prison.

Michigan voters on Friday will see the first television commercial of the campaign cycle featuring a Democratic candidate for Congress talking about her experience using IVF to start a family.

The spot offers a glimpse of how Democrats plan to put the issue of access to fertility treatments and reproductive health care in general at the center of campaigns across the country after the Alabama Supreme Court ruled that frozen embryos should be considered children.

In the ad, Jessica Swartz, an attorney challenging Republican Rep. Bill Huizenga in southwestern Michigan, speaks directly to the camera about her struggle to conceive.

“More than anything, we wanted to start a family,” Mrs. Swartz says in the ad, in which she sits on the couch with her husband and looks through their wedding photo album. “But like millions of Americans, we were struggling.”

“IVF was an answer to our prayers,” she adds, claiming that Mr. Huizenga “wants to roll back our freedoms.”

Ms. Swartz is running in a solidly Republican district, but the issue is expected to resonate in Michigan. In 2022, voters there approved a proposal that created a constitutional state right to reproductive freedom, including decisions “on all matters relating to pregnancy,” such as abortion and contraception. Governor Gretchen Whitmer has made the fight for abortion rights central to her political identity.

In Congress, Mr. Huizenga is co-sponsoring the Life at Conception Act, a nationwide abortion ban that could severely limit IVF treatments, which typically involve the creation of multiple embryos, only one of which is implanted while the others are frozen. enable subsequent attempts at successful implantation.

Since the Alabama ruling, Republicans in Congress have rushed to express their support for in vitro fertilization treatment — even though the bill, which many of them have supported, states that life begins at the moment of conception , which could severely limit or even prohibit certain aspects. of the procedure.

Mr. Huizenga did not immediately respond Wednesday to a request for comment on his position on IVF or on the attacks from any of his opponents.

“My family is important – and so is yours,” Ms. Swartz says in the ad, describing herself as a “pro-choice mom for Congress.”

Ms. Swartz’s campaign spent $100,000 on the ad buy, which will begin on cable channels and air.

Nikki Haley zal zich woensdagochtend in een toespraak eindelijk overgeven aan Donald Trump, nadat de ex-president een reeks verwoestende klappen heeft toegebracht aan haar falende campagne op Super Tuesday.

Haley, 52, zal rond 10.00 uur lokale tijd in haar thuisstaat South Carolina spreken, meldt De Wall Street Journal.
