FIRST GAME – DINOSAUR GAME

One of the most famous Easter eggs that Google has hidden for you iPhone is the dinosaur game.

It is designed to keep you entertained when you lose internet access.

So it’s great if you’re stuck on a plane or your WiFi goes out, or if you’re just a bit bored.

To get this, turn off your Wi-Fi and mobile internet or turn on airplane mode.

Now load any website and wait for this to happen failure because you don’t have internet.

An error page will appear with a small dinosaur icon visible.

Tap the dinosaur and it starts running. Keep tapping to make him jump.

APPLE has released an important security update and has urged all iPhone owners to install it now.

Earlier this week, the tech giant released a new iOS update for iPhones and iPads: iOS 17.4.1 and iPadOS 17.4.

“This update provides important bug fixes and security updates and is recommended for all users,” Apple said.

Regarding the iPhone, the updates have been released for the iPhone XS and later.

iPads that could get the update include the “iPad Pro 12.9-inch 2nd generation and later, iPad Pro 10.5-inch, iPad Pro 11-inch 1st generation and later, iPad Air 3rd generation and later, iPad 6th generation and later, and iPad mini 5th generation and later,” Apple said.

WHY DO I NEED TO UPDATE?

Updating your operating system ensures that your device has access to the latest security measures available.

“Keeping your software up to date is one of the most important things you can do to maintain the security of your Apple product,” Apple says on its website.

Security updates actually patch several vulnerabilities, saving you the need to spend money on antivirus software, experts say.

Conversely, if you don’t update, your iPhone is more susceptible to malware and bugs.

HOW TO UPDATE YOUR IOS

To manually update your iPhone, first go to Settings and then tap General.

Select Software Update and you should see if there is an update available for your device.

If you see an update, tap Update Now or Update Tonight.

If you choose to update tonight, the installation will only start when the device is locked and the battery has sufficient power.

It’s always best to set updates to automatic, so make sure you enable that option at the top as well.

To update your macOS, open the Apple menu > System Preferences > click Software Update.

If Software Update finds a new update, click the button to install it.

The process for updating iPadOS is similar: go to Settings > General > Software Update.

The screen will show which version of iPadOS is currently installed and whether an update is available.

Millions of bizarre blob-like creatures have washed up on West Coast beaches in recent years due to warming waters caused by climate change.

The gelatinous, transparent mases are found along the coasts of Northern California and Oregon, and sometimes as far away as Alaska, but typically live in warm seas – and at great depths.

Now scientists from Oregon State University have discovered that these pyrosomes or ‘sea pickles’ are appearing en masse as a result of a major marine heat wave that began in 2013 – marking the first time the animals have been seen in 25 years.

Since the proliferation of pyrosomes in the Pacific Ocean, they have also consumed most of the energy in the sea, reducing the number of salmon and seabirds.

Pyrosomes feed on phytoplankton, which form the basis of marine food webs that provide food for a wide range of marine animals, but growing numbers of sea pickles mean there are not enough available.

These creatures can grow from just a few centimeters to up to 20 meters in length and resemble a pink tube with stiff bumps covering the body.

Pyrosomes are colonies of thousands of animals called zooids that form in a hollow tube that can grow large enough for a human to fit through.

The sea creatures have a gene called luciferase that produces light and when it reacts with a luminous chemical, it sends the light up and down the tube, allowing it to see several meters in front of it.

They can also reproduce through asexual reproduction – effectively cloning themselves – or they can reproduce with a sexual partner.

The researchers looked at data from 80 groups of creatures, three feeding pools, five waste pools and two fisheries collected since 2014.

“Pyrosomes consume animals at the base of the food web and conserve that energy,” said Lisa Crozier, research scientist at NOAA Fisheries Northwest Fisheries Science Center and co-author of the paper.

“They take energy out of the system that predators need,” she added.

According to the study, pyrosomes have long been considered “trophic dead ends” because they cannot serve as an energy source for other species, and how nutritious they are for other creatures that have consumed them in recent years remains unclear.

“That has an impact on the entire ecosystem… the pyrosome consumes energy that would normally have passed through multiple prey before ultimately ending up in a salmon,” study co-author Dylan Gomes said. The Seattle Times.

Pyrosomes are not consumed as often as other creatures, such as jellyfish, and the study suggests that this “may be because they are harder to digest, offer lower energy content, or remain new to the food web so predators have not yet responded.”

The 2013 marine heat wave, known as ‘the Blob’, increased water temperatures, allowing pyrosomes to thrive, while some fisheries closed as salmon, cod and Dungeness crab populations declined.

Scientists have speculated whether rising temperatures could be to blame for animals’ metabolisms increasing in warmer water, causing them to use more energy.

“You can think of it as more being consumed for the same amount of seafood produced,” Gomes said NewScientist.

Gomes said the study does not take into account factors that could affect declining marine life, such as declining oxygen levels caused by warming waters.

However, he added: ‘It is a first attempt to understand how marine heat waves are changing the ecosystems of the northeast Pacific Ocean.’

The team also compared other marine animals to the pyrosomes and found that they benefited most from the ecosystem, while other species such as jellyfish, cod, sardines, sea snails and other creatures missed out, causing their populations to decline.

While other creatures such as salmon pass on their energy source to feed larger animals, the research suggests this is not the case for pyrosomes, where 98 percent of their waste and residue accumulate in the seabed – so-called waste pools.

HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) will close a major telephone line for six months from next month.

The Ministry of Government will close the self-assessment helpline from April 8 to September 30, which received three million calls in 2023.

The phone line will be closed at the same time every year, HMRC said.

Meanwhile, the helpline will reopen between October this year and March 2025, but only to assist customers with queries “that can be resolved quickly and easily”.

We’ve asked HMRC whether the reduction in service from October to March will also be a permanent change and will update this story once we hear back.

HMRC said advisers will continue to be available for customers who are unable to use online services or who need extra help due to health or personal circumstances.

It added that all other helplines will continue to function as they currently do.

The Foreign Ministry said the move to close the major telephone line was part of its efforts to modernize the tax system.

But it means customers will have to go online to HMRC’s website or via the Department’s app to carry out requests.

Angela MacDonald, Second Permanent Secretary and Deputy Chief Executive of HMRC, said: “Online services have transformed our lives and often provide a better service for tax management – ​​they are faster, easier and always available.

“By changing our services to encourage customers to offer online self-service where possible, our helpline advisors can focus support where it is needed most: helping people with complex tax questions and those who are vulnerable and need extra support.

“We must maximize every pound of taxpayers’ money. By embracing online self-service, we can help more customers and improve our customer service without spending additional government money.”

Concerns have been raised about HMRC’s latest announcement that changes were being “forced” on taxpayers.

Harriett Baldwin, chair of the Treasury Select Committee, said HMRC has not yet demonstrated that the department or the public are “ready to make such a monumental change in the way they resolve tax issues”.

She added: “It is a great shame that HMRC have decided that it is now time to effectively close all options for people to contact them by telephone for large parts of the year.

“We’ve heard time and time again that every effort is being made to help people solve problems online.”

HMRC’s latest announcement comes after it launched a trial closure of its self-assessment helpline last summer.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs closed the helpline between June 12 and September 3.

At the time, HMRC said the ‘seasonal model’ would allow staff to answer around 6,600 other calls a day.

The Department of State says 97% of self-assessment customers file their tax returns online and not over the phone line.

Who uses the helpline?

Self-assessment is a system that HMRC uses to collect income tax.

Tax is usually automatically withheld from wages, pensions and savings, but some people and businesses with other incomes do not need to declare this on their tax returns.

This applies to the following:

• Earned more than £2,500 renting out property
• You or your partner received child benefit on a high income and either of you had an annual income of more than £50,000
• Have received more than £2,500 in other tax-free income, for example from tips or commission
• Are independent sole proprietorships
• Are limited company directors
• Its shareholders
• Do employees declare expenses of more than € 2,500?
• Have an annual income of more than €100,000

TV viewers have just 24 hours to prepare their children for the disappearance of a beloved children’s channel tomorrow.

Children’s channel Tiny POP is no longer broadcast as a traditional TV channel on all major platforms, ranging from Sky and Virgin to Freeview and Freesat.

The channel is home to shows like Barbie, CoComelon and Sesame Street spinoffs like Elmo’s World.

But from March 20, it will only exist as an online service available on these platforms:

“Why on earth did you delete your channels,” one mother ranted on Facebook when the move was first announced.

It follows the closure of CITV last year after 17 years on screen, which switched to digital-only via ITVX Kids.

Replacing Tiny POP is, unfortunately for the children, not a channel aimed at seven-year-olds and younger.

Arriving on March 20 is AMAZING! Real, the first channel in the GREAT! Network to broadcast only unscripted content.

Shows will include Heathrow: Britain’s Busiest Airport, Paddington Station 24/7, Island Medics, Emergency Rescue: Air, Land and Sea and Coast Guard Alaska.

It comes as the makers of Freeview and Freesat recently announced plans for the next generation of TV delivered to homes over the internet.

Freely will launch sometime from April this year, built into new smart TVs.

Anna Paul’s father Hanns has dismissed claims that he is homeless and that his daughter does not support him financially despite earning millions as a social media star.

Hanns is a nomad and lives and travels through Australia in a modest van.

Rumors circulated on Monday that Hanns is struggling to live out of his van, while his daughter lives a lavish life full of foreign travel, fast cars and expensive jewelry.

Hanns released a statement on Instagram on Tuesday, decrying the “gossip” and praising his daughter for being so supportive of his “dream” lifestyle.

“It has come to my attention that there is toxic misinformation regarding my personal life and my relationship with my family,” he wrote.

“This is just to set the record straight. I lived MY dream and my daughter has been nothing but supportive.”

He continued, “If you look at my Instagram feed, you will easily discover that I have traveled the world over the past few years and I don’t want for anything.

‘I am very proud of what my daughter Anna has achieved and the person she has become!

“If there’s anything to take away from this, it’s that idle gossip only causes pain. Don’t participate! Now back to my family vacation.’

Followers of Anna and her father, who recently holidayed together in Germany, were divided as they flocked to the comments on Hann’s recent Instagram post on Monday.

Hanns, who is currently in Miami with his daughter Anna, shared innocent photos and videos of a pelican hunting for food while strolling along a beautiful beach.

One follower began the comments by asking directly if Hanns was broke, homeless and not financially supported by his own daughter.

He immediately denied the accusations, writing, “That’s insane. I’m in Miami now. My daughter is the best.’

Others continued to criticize Anna, with one person writing: ‘Anna is such a grub. From lying about growing up poor to now treating her father this way, and yet she still buys her ex a car for 100,000. I’m sure she could surprise her dad and upgrade his van if he wanted to live his life this way.”

Another said: ‘You’d think his daughter would at least buy him a nicer van.’

“So you’re homeless, you can’t afford a bottle of water, while your OWN BLOOD is bathed in money, leaving you to live in a van. Terrible family you have, you can’t even lie. They should support you no matter what you have done in the past. No father or anyone for that matter should be left in a van,” a third added.

Yet another commented: “I hope you are doing well. It’s not fair that they use you for your image while they’re filming and then just let you wrestle again.”

Many followers rushed to Anna’s defense, saying it was ridiculous that people would ever believe such a rumor if Hanns had been open about his desire to live the ‘van life’ while traveling the world.

One person wrote: ‘This is so funny because if I had Anna’s money I KNOW my dad wouldn’t want to live in nice houses and would like to live in the wilderness on his own terms. Why do people act as if Hanns isn’t a grown man with his own wants/needs in life?’

How to watch Apple TV+ for free

If you’re a Virgin Media O2 customer, you can access Apple TV+ for free via the Priority app.

It’s only available to new customers who haven’t had free Apple TV+ before.

MILLIONS of households on various legacy benefits are being asked to switch to Universal Credit as part of a massive wealth change.

All two million legacy benefit claimants must move to Universal Credit (UC) or pension credit by the end of March 2025, through a process known as managed migration.

Universal Credit was created to replace old benefits.

Eligible households will be contacted with letters in the post explaining how they can make the switch from tax credits to Universal Credit.

Once you receive a letter, you have three months to switch. Otherwise, you may lose your current benefits.

However, the latest statistics show that more than 31,000 people with tax benefits who were invited to move to UC have not made a claim and have had their benefits stopped.

There could be a number of reasons for this, including the issue of the five-week wait for cash.

When you first sign up to the Universal Credit scheme, there can be quite a long wait for your first payment.

In some cases it can take up to five weeks before you are in the system and this can cause problems for many people.

Many households struggle to afford basic necessities during this period as other pre-existing benefits are usually canceled.

For example, if you claim tax credits under the managed migration process, your entitlement will stop as soon as you apply for Universal Credit.

However, those receiving income support, housing benefit, means-tested Jobseeker’s Allowance (JSA), means-tested Employment and Support Allowance (ESA) will continue to receive their old payments for a further two weeks after making a Universal Credit application.

This means there are still three weeks without benefits.

However, households waiting for their first Universal Credit payment can apply for an advance loan.

The advance loan is designed to help you bridge the gap while you wait for your first Universal Credit payment.

However, keep in mind that it is not free cash, it is just a loan and the money does have to be paid back.

This means that the amount of Universal Credit you receive will be reduced until the cost of the loan is repaid.

However, it can still be a lifeline for some. Here’s exactly how it works.

How much can I get?

Claimants can borrow up to 100% of their estimated payment, but you can also ask for less.

The advantage of this loan is that it is interest-free, so if you do need to borrow, it is wise to do so rather than incurring debt elsewhere.

However, remember that you will have to pay it back, so think carefully before signing up.

The money will be transferred to you within three working days and must remain for the full five weeks before your first payment.

How do I request an advance?

You can apply for a Universal Credit advance before you receive your first payment from UC.

There are several ways in which you can apply for the loan.

You can sign up with the help of your Jobcente work coach, or by calling the Universal Credit helpline.

You can apply for the loan from the time you first apply for Universal Credit until the date you receive your first payment.

You will need to explain why you think you need the advance, provide information to verify your identity (during your first Jobcentre Plus interview) and provide banking details for the advance.

If you are unable to open a bank account, please contact your work coach.

You will usually be told the same day whether you will receive your advance loan.

If you need help, you can call the Universal Credit helpline on 0800 328 5644.

The lines are open Monday to Friday from 8am to 6pm.

When do I have to repay an advance?

You are expected to repay the loan within the first 24 months of obtaining it.

To pay it back, the DWP will deduct an amount from your Universal Credit payment every month.

You can calculate how much will be deducted from your payment each month by dividing the full cost of the loan by 24.

For example, if you borrowed £1,500, £62.50 will be deducted from your Universal Credit payment each month.

You can request to defer your repayments for up to three months if you are unable to pay them, but this is only allowed in exceptional circumstances.

If you call the helpline and are successful in your application, they will tell you over the phone:

• How much you can take
• The monthly repayment amounts
• When the first payment is due

However, you still have to pay it back within 12 months if you applied for the advance before April 12 this year.

You only have six months if you have submitted the application due to changed circumstances. You can then request a postponement of repayment by one month.
