A TikToker has revealed why she loves living on a canal in London – saying she couldn’t afford an apartment as nice as her boat.

Maisy Dewey, 24, originally from Savannah in Georgia, lives on a narrowboat on the River Thames with her fiancé Harry and Dalmatian Kipper.

Maisy says she never planned to live on a boat, but came across this one by accident while hunting after it was advertised as a ‘riverside’ property – and didn’t realize how literal the description was .

Her boat is permanently moored, meaning they are connected to the normal sewage system and can still access utilities such as electricity and Wi-Fi, while drawing water and gas from separate tanks.

Maisie gave a tour of her boat to her 25,000 TikTok followers in a videoshowing off her cheerfully decorated and spacious boat.

Speaking to the camera, she explained: ‘I’ll give you a tour of our boat while I tell you why we love living here. First of all, looking around, we wouldn’t be able to afford a regular apartment as nice as our boat.

‘We have a beautiful kitchen, we even have an extra room as an office/cloakroom and the boat is surprisingly spacious.

‘We lived in three other apartments with our dog Kipper before boarding our boat, and this is by far the most spacious place we’ve lived. We also have a lot of storage space.’

A narrowboat is a type of tour boat, specially built for the narrow waterways of Great Britain. Most are about six feet wide and semi-permanently moored or constantly cruising.

Maisy filmed the beautiful interior of the boat, which consists of a combined living and kitchen area, a guest room for an office and wardrobe space, a large double bedroom with extra storage and a bathroom.

The couple moved aboard in November and despite an ‘extremely draughty’ winter, they are generally loving boat life.

Maisy continues: ‘Apart from generally having a nice place to live, we love being on the quay and on the river. It’s just such a great atmosphere and our neighbors are so nice.

‘We’re still getting used to the boat lifestyle, but so far we’re enjoying life on board the boat and all the nice little quirks. I love waking up every night and going to bed on the river, it’s such a dream.”

She added that the boat, which they rent, is the only living space they’ve had that’s big enough for their dog Kipper to run around in.

The boat largely manages to remain stable due to its large size, but can become rocky in windy weather or at high tide.

It has a 50-gallon water tank in the back that provides enough water for the entire boat, and it refills when it becomes empty.

They also have a gas tank, which the landlord refills.

Maisy did not reveal the exact location of the boat or how much she is paying for the rent, but says it is cheaper than apartments she has rented in the past.

Her boat trip video has now been viewed 1.8 million times as people are intrigued by the idea of ​​boat life in the capital.

One viewer said: ‘It’s beautiful!’ while another was also taken back and said: ‘It’s huge.’

Others question the safety of living on a boat, writing: ‘A trailer that can easily sink. Cool.’

It comes amid a growing trend of people leaving their expensive London flats for a cheaper life on the water.

Kelly Rizzo has a message for critics who think she moved on too quickly after her husband’s death: Bob Saget.

After living in Melbourne for just 16 months, where Eva, 28, worked as an IVF pharmacist and Tim, 33, worked for the same engineering company that employed him in New Zealand, the couple had saved enough to spend a year in to travel abroad.

“If we had stayed in New Zealand we probably wouldn’t have been able to travel, we wouldn’t have been able to save enough,” Eva told Daily Mail Australia from Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia.

“Everyone around the world is struggling, but in New Zealand I think they’re falling behind.”

Better money for Kiwis moving to Australia

She said by moving to Australia the couple earned 30 percent higher wages than at home, and discovered there were many other financial benefits such as tax deductions for work costs that simply didn’t exist in New Zealand.

In their Earn money from traveling blog Eva writes that the couple ‘knew that moving to Australia would mean we could save more money AND save money faster than if we just stayed in New Zealand by securing higher paying jobs’.

“What we didn’t realize were the many other ways that living in Australia could facilitate our savings goals,” she writes.

‘For starters, having to pay less income tax.’

‘For an average Australian full-time salary of $95,000, you would pay approximately $21,300 in income tax per year.’

“In New Zealand, on the same salary (if you can find a job that pays the equivalent) you would have to pay about $23,200 in income tax per year.”

However, that wasn’t even the best part.

“In Australia you have the right to claim back tax on all kinds of work costs,” she said.

‘This includes professional fees, costs for working from home, tools, conference costs, work clothing and much more.

‘We eventually discovered that Australia not only pays better; you keep more of what you earn.’

Eva recalled when the couple moved to Australia that ‘everyone said make sure you get your tax back’.

“As far as we knew, we could never reclaim the same costs in New Zealand, not in normal jobs, maybe if you had a business,” she said. ‘The grass is definitely greener!’

More career opportunities

Both Eva and Tim enjoyed career opportunities in Australia that they would not have had in New Zealand.

Eva went from being a pharmacist in a public hospital in Christchurch to working for a private IVF clinic, a private sector pharmacy job that she said didn’t exist in New Zealand.

“My new job came with a raise, bonuses and a small team where I felt valued,” she wrote in the blog.

Even if she had returned to community pharmacy, the pay increase in Australia would have been significant.

Despite working for the same company, Tim was also given ‘a significant pay rise to move to Australia’, which would have taken ‘years’ in New Zealand.

“Shortly after moving to Australia, Tim was able to secure a role with a higher authority, which is a testament to the career opportunities that Australian companies can offer to New Zealand professionals looking to move to Australia,” Eva wrote.

“In addition to a pay increase, Tim’s transfer deal provided us both with flights to Melbourne and a month of free accommodation in an apartment in Melbourne’s CBD until we could secure our own rental property. Not a bad deal, if I say so myself!’

A better balance between work and private life

As if getting paid more wasn’t enough, Tim and Eva discovered that Australians work shorter hours than Kiwis and that supermarkets are cheaper.

‘The standard working week in New Zealand is 40 hours (compared to 38 in Australia), so over a full year the difference is about 100 hours,’ says Eva.

‘It doesn’t seem like much, two hours a week, but it is, and we found it useful because it gives you time to visit the banks when they are open.’

She also said that in Victoria, ‘seasonal cashbacks on dining out, activities and electricity bills are offered to all residents’.

“Thanks to these cashback schemes, we were reimbursed hundreds of dollars during our time living in Melbourne,” she wrote.

Another non-financial aspect that Eva and Tim enjoyed about Melbourne was living in a city that was four times the size in population of New Zealand’s largest metropolis, Auckland.

“If we want something close to the size of Melbourne, the only option is Auckland, but it’s obviously quite expensive to be there,” Eva said.

“It’s probably similar to Melbourne, but in Melbourne you get better wages.

‘You just don’t get the same opportunities. There’s always something to do in Melbourne, there’s always events going on.’

After a 10-month stint in Europe, the couple plans to spend a few more months in Southeast Asia before heading home, which won’t be New Zealand for the foreseeable future.

“I don’t see us going back to New Zealand,” Eva said.

‘Payment is a big problem. If we could get the same pay, we might go back, but we’re still missing out on the city lifestyle.”

Eva said that at times she and Tim felt bad about leaving New Zealand.

“We feel guilty for leaving, we miss our celebrations at home, so we feel guilty for missing that,” she said.

But in most other respects they were happy to be expats.

Eva said they wouldn’t have done thatleaving their country when they could have ‘taken care of us’.

“Australia has given us opportunities that we just wouldn’t have in New Zealand,” she said.

“People can call us unpatriotic, but we just have to do what’s best for us.”

The New Zealand Prime Minister raised concerns about Kiwis moving to Australia

The exodus of working-age New Zealanders to Australia has become such a concern that it was raised in newly elected Prime Minister Christopher Luxon’s State of the Nation address in February.

“The average full-time worker in Australia now earns $20,000 more per year than someone in New Zealand,” Mr Luxon said.

“It’s no surprise that Kiwis voted with their feet. A record 44,500 net New Zealanders left the country last year.”

Jax Taylor says that he and estranged wife Brittany Cartwright are not headed for ‘divorce’ and that she’s already moved back into their Sherman Oaks home.

He made the claims to Page Six on Thursday, just hours after Cartwright revealed on the couple’s podcast that they are ‘taking time apart’ after four years of marriage.

She also confessed that she recently moved out of their martial home and into a $15K-a-month rental property for ‘the sake of my mental health.’

Jax insists that he and Brittany are back to living under one roof and that their separation is more of a relationship ‘reassessment’ rather than a finite split.

‘We’re together. We’re living in our home right now. She was in a house for a while, but yeah, she’s back now,’ he said.

‘It’s not evil or nastiness. It’s just two people that you now [sic] are hitting a 10-year mark in their marriage,’ he explained.

The bar owner said this is ‘all fresh and new’ so they are still trying to figure everything out. 

‘We’re just spending some time apart and just trying to re-assess, you know, our situation. We have a child involved and we just wanna do what’s best for our kid,’ Jax concluded.

Brittany and Jax were seen reuniting for the first time since announcing their shock separation on Thursday.

Jax paid a visit to Brittany’s rental home, which is located just 12 minutes away from her ex, in the afternoon so he could pick up their son Cruz for some quality time.

While the former SUR waitress lent a hand loading their little one into his car seat, an eyewitness told DailyMail.com that the former couple ‘appeared tense’ and ‘were not very chatty with each other.’ 

The insider described their exchange as brief and ‘business-like.’ 

When Taylor first arrived, Cartwright was seen taking out her trash while rocking a black denim jacket over a white and brown flannel shirt, black pants and white sneakers. 

Meanwhile, Taylor was dressed in merchandise promoting his Studio City bar, Jax’s, for the occasion.

His trip was short, as he only went inside the house for a half hour before emerging with Cartwright to load their son into a white Jeep. 

Later, Cartwright, who changed her clothes and went off to film a project at a studio in Burbank, was seen wearing a sweatshirt with the words ‘better days ahead’ emblazoned on the back. 

The duo met back up at her new rental when Taylor dropped off Cruz.

Cartwright was noticeably still wearing her wedding ring on both sightings.

Earlier in the day, Taylor was seen leaving their Valley Village home and heading to his bar on a red and black golf cart. 

He parked in a no-parking zone for the disabled, despite not appearing to have any injuries or disabilities. 

Taylor and Cartwright announced they currently separated and are ‘taking time apart’ after four years of marriage. 

Brittany announced the news this week on When Reality Hits, confirming: ‘Jax and I are taking time apart and I made the decision to move into another home to take some space for the sake of my mental health.’ 

However, Brittany also later hinted that the ‘split’ could be temporary, as she asked fans to ‘pray for us,’ and added that she believes ‘everything will be just fine.’

Signs of their relationship trouble and marital woes will most likely unfold on their new reality show The Valley, which premieres on March 19.

Admitting that the split is ‘still very hard to talk about’ she added that she is just ‘taking one day at a time.’

‘I don’t know what the future holds, but right now my focus is on being the best mom to Cruz,’ Brittany added.

Brittany and Jax began dating in 2015 after they met in Las Vegas, and their courtship was featured on their Bravo reality series Vanderpump Rules. 

In 2017, the pair split for awhile after it was publicly revealed that Jax slept with another woman.

He cheated on Cartwright with their co-star Faith Stowers.

While speaking about her decision to forgive him, she stated that she was ‘raised to be a good Christian woman’ and told friends she believed ‘everybody deserves’ a second chance on Vanderpump Rules. 

After reconciling off-camera and and on their Bravo series’ reunion show, Cartwright, who is 10 years his junior, told People they ‘weathered the storm.’ 

‘We’re still going through it … [but] we’re in a great place now — probably better than we’ve ever been,’ he said.

He proposed with a three-carat cushion-cut diamond ring. 

‘We are ENGAGED! What a way to start our summer and season 7!!’ she wrote in their engagement announcement on Instagram. ‘I am so happy, so in love, and so beyond excited for this next chapter of our lives! I can’t wait for all of you to see how he proposed! I am the happiest girl ever right now. Love can win!’ 

In a joint statement, they reflected on how they’ve ‘been through a lot together, the good and the bad — but’ claimed it ‘only brought’ them ‘so much closer together.’
