The NRL is expected to launch an investigation on Friday evening following an ugly brawl between Roosters and Rabbitohs supporters at Allianz Stadium.

Trent Robinson’s men defeated their fierce rivals 48-6 – with tensions reaching boiling point with rival supporters at Sydney’s Moore Park.

With the Roosters comfortably in front late in the second half, a fight started in the members’ area of the revamped sports facility moments after South Sydney fullback Latrell Mitchell was sin-binned.

Footage of the incident shows several people involved in the brawl exchanging a barrage of punches – in full view of many terrified children.

Security initially struggled to intervene, before many of those involved eventually walked away.

One man wears one Rabbitoh’s sweater was seen with a bloody mouth.

It is expected that CCTV will be used in an attempt to identify those involved, with a ban on NRL matches and possible court dates.

On the field, the Rabbitohs slumped to their third successive defeat, with coach Jason Demetriou now facing an uncertain future under pressure.

“It’s disappointing, it hurts, it’s probably the lowest point of my career right now, but I know how we’ll get out of it. We will fight and fight together,” he said at the post-match press conference.

“I have a lot of confidence in this group and I know they will come out.

‘The only way to relax [the noise] is to get laser focused and get our season going again.

“It’s just a matter of just getting that first win. We need to be more resilient.”

Demetriou’s decision to drop halfback Lachlan Ilias earlier this week raised many eyebrows, as did benching hooker Damien Cook.

Star recruit Jack Wton was also seen holding a knee late in the game in what was a night to forget for the Bunnies.

A sprawling tropical retreat once owned by Gina Rinehart, Australia’s richest person, is up for sale.

The Queensland estate is located on the shores of Murray Bay, just outside Bowen, and extends over 3.5 hectares of secluded land, including 250 meters of private beach.

Dubbed a ‘gateway to the Whitsundays’, the site has a true northerly orientation towards the water and features three detached houses and three self-contained units.

Current owner and former rugby league player Mike McLean purchased the tropical estate in 2020 from Hancock Prospecting, owned by Rinehart.

The main house features three bedrooms and three bathrooms, opening onto beautiful sea views and picturesque landscaped gardens.

It was believed the property was used to house employees of Hancock Prospecting when it was owned by Rinehart.

The listing by Queensland Sotheby’s International Realty claims the property is “the only private retreat to grace Murray Bay.”

Additionally, the complex is only accessible through high-security gates that “declare its exclusivity from the road and ensure that each guest is welcomed by appointment only,” according to the listing.

The waterfront estate is “flanked by crown land and offers access to the bay only by foot” and also features a natural spring.

The property is zoned tourism/residential, which means it can be used as both a home and a resort.

“Whether you envision a premier resort, caravan park, lifestyle hotel/licensed venue, or want to keep this slice of paradise as your own private retreat, this estate provides a curated canvas for your greatest ambitions,” the listing says.

No asking price has been stated, but the owners are inviting expressions of interest.

  • Paul Kent has blasted the NRL’s handling of the racism saga
  • Spencer Leniu received an eight-game suspension for his “monkey” slur
  • But Kent says Leniu did not receive a fair trial

Paul Kent has criticized the NRL’s handling of the Spencer Leniu racism scandal, arguing the Roosters star has been handed an eight-match ban in a harsh manner.

Leniu, 23, was handed the lengthy ban following a hearing at the NRL judiciary on Monday, where he pleaded guilty in Las Vegas earlier this month to calling Broncos rival Ezra Mam a ‘monkey’.

The case has sparked debate in the football world, with Souths star Latrell Mitchell calling for Leniu to miss half the season for the blemish – which would have been one of the harshest punishments in the history of the game.

Johnathan Thurston echoed these sentiments, claiming that Leniu should have been handed a 12-match ban.

But Fox League pundit Kent said the saga “exposed the confusion in the game” and said a stiff penalty would be too harsh a sanction compared to some of the sport’s most egregious acts.

“We lose all reason for emotion all the time – and that’s what we did in this case,” Kent said on NRL360.

“Eight weeks, if you go back to the toughest penalties of the NRL era, they’re all violent offenses for these types of penalties. For a twelve-week sentence, they are all violent sentences. This isn’t that.

“No one is justifying what he did, but I also think there’s a bit of perspective lost in all of this because people are so emotional about it.”

Fellow expert David Riccio pushed back on Kent’s opinion, arguing that eight weeks “sends a message.”

But Kent was not convinced: ‘Four weeks is a message. What message?’

Riccio replied, “That the game won’t last.”

“When has the game ever been like this?” Kent responded.

‘I thought he (Leniu) was going to walk in for eight weeks, whatever he said.

‘I think there’s so much pressure on the NRL to be politically correct and please the general public and give the impression that it’s a game that doesn’t stand for this, when rugby league has always been at the forefront of fight against racism,” says Kent. continued.

But Kent says it wasn't right for people like Latrell Mitchell to express their opinions freely

He also claimed that Leniu’s suspension was harsh and that four weeks was more appropriate

“No one denies that it exists and that it has existed in the game just like everywhere else. But rugby league has been the game that has led the way, as the first indigenous player to ever play for his country was a rugby league player, and the first indigenous player to ever captain the country was a rugby league person .’

Responding to Thurston’s disappointment over Leniu’s eight-match suspension, Kent said: ‘Give us a reason why.

‘He is already the strongest, but for some people that is not enough. Give us a reason why. I’ll come up with a reason, come to the show and tell us why.

“But don’t just sit there because it’s a time to complain and state your position and make your case so you have to make a noise that whatever happens isn’t good enough.”

Kent also called for players to be fined for sharing their views on live NRL trials.

“A coach can’t say ‘s***’ at a press conference without getting fined,” Kent said.

‘Come on. Show some courage, seriously. If you want to stand for something, if you want to be a game that brings out all these values that you keep telling us in the good times, then stand for it in the bad times too.”

A common photo of a ‘small town girl’ enjoying a night out at a club in far north Queensland has Australians across the country claiming the teenager should be a model.

Murri woman Ryli Johnson traveled to Townsville for a weekend getaway with her boyfriend Tyreice Baira Gela and a few friends.

The group were enjoying a night out at The Bank Nightclub on Saturday when the club’s photographer casually snapped a photo of the 19-year-old and her boyfriend.

Ryli said she didn’t think much of the photo of the smiling couple, which was shared on the club’s Facebook page.

Some social media users said her boyfriend Tyreice shared a resemblance to Melbourne Storm NRL winger Xavier Coates.

However, the photo sparked a slew of comments from Aussies who were taken aback by Ryli’s ‘natural’ beauty, with many claiming she should pursue a career in modeling.

Murri woman Ryli Johnson was pictured with her boyfriend Tyreice Baira Gela at The Bank nightclub in Townsville

“Send her to a modeling agency, she is naturally beautiful,” one person commented.

‘She is the definition of beauty. Someone signed her up,” a second person wrote.

“Tell me this girl is modeling professionally. She’s beautiful,” said a third.

A fourth added: “So she should pursue a modeling career, so naturally beautiful inside and out.”

Ryli, who is from the rural town of Moree in north-west NSW, told Daily Mail Australia the response to her photo came as a shock.

“I don’t really wear makeup, but that night I didn’t put any makeup on at all and the guy asked if he could take a picture of us, not thinking it would be posted,” Ryli said.

‘It just started blowing up and my mum showed me all the reactions and I thought ‘what the heck’.

“Like I’m just a little black girl from Moree and all these people from the big city telling me to be a model was something I didn’t expect at all. It’s just crazy.’

Ryli, from the small rural area of Moree in north-west NSW, said the response had been ‘overwhelming’.

Ryli currently lives with her father in Port Macquarie and is considering a move to Brisbane if her application to Qantas as a customer service representative is successful.

Growing up, Ryli said a few people had mentioned that she was considering modeling, but the comments were made in passing and she dismissed them as if they were a joke.

However, the teen said the reaction to her photo has given her the “drive” and confidence to possibly pursue a career in modeling.

“It’s given me a lot to think about and I feel like I might do some modeling,” Ryli said.

‘The reactions have given me a bit of drive and maybe I’ll enjoy it, or maybe it’ll even be a career change for me.’

Ryli said her father even drew comparisons to Victoria’s Secret model Miranda Kerr, who grew up in the rural NSW town of Gunnedah, just a two-hour drive from Moree.

If given the chance, Ryli said she would “take the chance” and “definitely give it a try.”

She added that one of her motivations if she were to work as a model would be to inspire other young First Nations and Indigenous girls to achieve their dreams.

“I would definitely shout out to people in my home community that there are definitely opportunities for us black girls,” Ryli said.

‘Anyone can do it. It’s possible, you know what I mean? For example, don’t stop dreaming; you will make it if you leave your small town life behind and go big.

“I’ve always wanted to make a difference in my home community because there’s a lot of violence, everyone is under the influence of drugs and alcohol and the crime rate is just ridiculous.”

Ryli said she would 'definitely' consider a modeling career if offered the opportunity and would use the platform to inspire other young Indigenous and First Nations girls

The extent of Ryli’s modeling career to date occurred when she was 12 years old and her mother entered her into an Aboriginal model search competition – which her cousin won.

She explained that her cousin was able to collaborate with indigenous fashion designer Gomeroi woman Auntie Colleen Tighe Johnson and even attended New York Fashion Week.

Last year, Ryli and her brother Bayli traveled to Ireland for the ITF Tag World Cup in Ireland.

The pair both won a bronze medal, Ryli as part of the Australian Indigenous Oztag women’s under-21 team and Bayli as part of the Alliance Rest of the World men’s under-21 team.

  • The former football star will appeal against his conviction on April 3
  • Two-time Dally M winner found guilty of rape last year

Disgraced former NRL star Jarryd Hayne will fight to clear his name in weeks after being convicted of raping a woman in her home on the big final night more than five years ago.

The two-time Dally M winner was found guilty of sexually assaulting the woman at her home in Newcastle in the NSW Hunter Region following a high-profile trial in the NSW District Court last year.

He was sentenced to four years and nine months in prison over the incident, but will be eligible for parole in May 2025 due to the time he has already served in custody.

After his conviction by the jury last year, both Hayne and his barrister Margaret Cunneen SC indicated outside court that they would appeal the verdict.

Moments after learning his fate and walking out of court hand-in-hand with his wife Amellia Bonnici, Hayne held back tears as he told the media he “continues to stand for the truth.”

When asked if he maintained his innocence, he said “100 percent.”

“I never lied to the police, I never deleted evidence, I never hid witnesses. Do the math,” Hayne said at the time.

When asked if he thought he had received a fair trial, he declined to comment.

‘Did I lie? Did I lie? That is factual evidence,” he said.

Ms Cunneen argued at the time that the conviction sentence was ‘unreasonable and unjustified’ and ‘not supported by evidence’.

The April 3 hearing date was confirmed by the Court of Criminal Appeal on Thursday.

The hearing will last three to four hours, with Hayne appealing the conviction based on evidence that emerged during the trial.

He will call into the courtroom via an audiovisual connection for the hearing.

The appeal marks Hayne’s second attempt to overturn his rape conviction at the Court of Criminal Appeal.

The former American football player has faced three trials over the 2018 rape, the first of which ended when the jury failed to reach a unanimous verdict in 2020.

He was found guilty and convicted of two counts of sexual intercourse without consent after a second trial in March 2021.

The former full-back was sentenced to five years and nine months in prison, which he successfully appealed to the Court of Criminal Appeal.

The court ordered a new trial in 2023, which led to a jury returning a guilty verdict on two counts of sexual intercourse without consent.

Hayne hopes his conviction will be overturned for a second time when he returns to the state’s highest court later this year.

The mystery woman on the arm of paralyzed former NRL player Alex McKinnon could be revealed as a glamorous young social worker ten years his junior.

Former Newcastle Knights player McKinnon, 32, and fellow Newcastle University student Lily Malone, 22, both shared an image with their arms around each other on their Instagram pages on Sunday.

McKinnon posted the photo of them both dressed in pink at Malone’s 22nd birthday party just hours before the NRL season opener kicked off in Las Vegas on Sunday.

Moments later, Malone debuted McKinnon on her own Instagram page, sharing the same photo with a love heart emoji.

Malone’s mother Monique did not deny the pair were an item when contacted by Daily Mail Australia on Monday.

“I’m not going to comment on their relationship, that’s for them to comment on,” Ms. Malone said.

Lily Malone is studying for a bachelor’s degree in social work at Newcastle University. McKinnon studies psychology there and works as an analyst for Fox Sports.

Malone – who works as a family liaison officer at Life Without Barriers – recently revealed she will soon become a qualified social worker.

“Working with a small, dedicated team, I have developed an eight-session program tailored to the unique needs of “parents of young offenders within a domestic violence context,” she recently posted on her LinkedIn page.

McKinnon’s romance comes after he split from ex-wife Teigan Power in January 2022 after five years of marriage, three children and his own horrific on-field foot accident that left him paralyzed.

When they split, both parties confirmed that the split was amicable and that they remained committed to co-parenting their children, twins Audrey and Violet, and eldest daughter Harriet.

Power announced her new love Jake Nelson at the end of last year.

Last year, McKinnon said he and Power were still connected by a strong, close friendship.

“We are still very close,” he told News Corp.

‘Being a parent is such an important job and having a strong relationship with their mother is just as important.

‘We are still good friends, we both realize that we are role models for the children and we have to show them that supporting each other is the only way to be that.’

McKinnon proposed to his high school sweetheart from his hospital bed just days after his promising NRL career was cut short in March 2014 when he suffered a devastating spinal cord injury in a horrific on-field accident. He was only 22.

He suffered fractures to his C4 and C5 vertebrae after a dangerous tackle just before half-time of a Round 3 match against the Melbourne Storm. McKinnon proposed to Power just a fortnight after breaking his spine.

McKinnon and Power married in October 2017 in an intimate ceremony in the NSW Hunter Valley.

The former Knights star promised his bride that he would get up from his wheelchair when he popped the question, and he did just that at their wedding.

The couple was together for 12 years and married for five years before their relationship quietly ended.

McKinnon’s father Scott told Daily Mail Australia at the time that McKinnon “did well, but it’s really sad – what can you do?”

“I know he’s a good boy, but Alex is a private guy.

“It’s just very, very sad.”

A footy fan left Allegiant Stadium worse for wear after a messy brawl in the stands during the NRL extravaganza in Las Vegas on Sunday.

The Sea Eagles recorded a shock 36-24 win over South Sydney Rabbitohs in the 2024 season opener, played in the United States as footy bosses look to grab a slice of the huge American market.

But it wasn’t all cheering for one Manly fan, who was left bleeding after a nasty fight in the stands, according to footage published on social media.

Details remain unclear, but a series of short videos of the incident suggest it started with a man in a Sea Eagles jersey staggering in the stands and appearing to be intoxicated by alcohol.

One video shows another man holding the Manly fan and apparently trying to protect him, before a third gentleman in a light gray shirt tries to grab him.

The man in the Sea Eagles jersey seems quite defenseless considering his drunkenness, and the third man hits him with a hard punch that rocks his head.

Another video shows the Manly fan leaving the stands with blood all over his face and right hand.

It is not known whether the man in the light gray shirt was processed by security.

Another video shows the Manly fan in a wheelchair being checked by medical staff. Someone is heard shouting ‘go Manly’ as he is watched.

A crowd of 40,746 people attended the Vegas bonanza, while Allegiant Stadium had a capacity of 65,000 fans.

  • Teigan went public with her new partner at the end of last year

Former NRL star Alex McKinnon has posted a photo of himself and a mystery new woman on social media after his ex-wife Teigan Power went public with her new love in December.

McKinnon and Power split in January 2022 after five years of marriage and three children together, but their divorce was only made public three months later.

When they split, both parties confirmed that the split was amicable and that they remained committed to co-parenting their children, twins Audrey and Violet, and eldest daughter Harriet.

Power announced her new love Jake Nelson late last year, almost two years after the marriage ended.

On Sunday, just hours before the NRL season opener kicked off, McKinnon posted a series of photos to Instagram, including a photo of himself and a mystery brunette.

The former footy star simply captioned the post with a cake emoji.

McKinnon proposed to his high school sweetheart from his hospital bed just days after his promising NRL career was cut short in March 2014 when he suffered a devastating spinal cord injury aged just 22.

He suffered fractures to his C4 and C5 vertebrae after a dangerous tackle just before half-time of a Round 3 match against the Melbourne Storm and was paralyzed.

McKinnon and Power married in October 2017 in an intimate ceremony in the NSW Hunter Valley. The former Knights star promised his bride that he would get up from his wheelchair when he popped the question, and he did just that at their wedding.

The couple welcomed Harriet a day before their first wedding anniversary the following year, and were soon followed by Audrey Jill and Violet John, who turn two this week.

And McKinnon said that while parenthood was difficult under his circumstances, his daughters made his job much easier.

“Parenting while physically healthy is difficult, we all have to adapt,” he said.

“But the girls are great. Even at their age, they are so caring, very aware and very accepting.”

Now in his third year of psychology studies, McKinnon wants to mentor those who have suffered similar injuries, or their families.

Fans begin to take their seats as the gates open, but how many of them are American?

We’re T-minus 65 minutes away from the Vegas launch and as you can see below, footy diehards are making their way to the ‘Death Star’. One of the big questions will be: how many of the spectators who show up will be American? The NRL hopes many locals will be curious enough to give the new sport in town a try.

The cheapest tickets currently cost $19 on Ticketmaster – a low price that many footy fans down under would definitely be happy with the next time they want to go to a match.

Latrell Mitchell gets ‘goosebumps’ when he walks onto the Allegiant field – and predicts how the smaller playing surface will affect games

“For me this is everything,” Mitchell told Fox Sports as he took the field in Souths’ match with Manly just over an hour before kick-off, saying he still can’t believe the NRL has pulled this off and that he’s got goosebumps just looking at the field.

Much attention has been paid to the dimensions of the playing surface at Allegiant, freeing up some space from the standard NRL pitch – and Trell believes this will lead to a more defensive game, with the Bunnies looking to get more through the Sea Eagles to play. instead of working the flanks.

Allegiant’s playing field is 94.5 yards from goalposts to goalposts instead of the usual 100 yards, and 64 yards wide instead of 68.

Double-header loses star power as Hugh Jackman pulls out at the last minute

The world’s most famous Manly fan has been forced to abandon his plan to become the biggest VIP at the double-header due to ‘unforeseen’ circumstances, the newspaper said. Sydney Morning Herald.

Jackman had been in Vegas on Friday but had to fly back to New York, it was reported.

Souths co-owner Russell Crowe is also unable to attend due to filming commitments, but provided the voiceover for an advert explaining rugby league to Americans.

The crowd gathers outside Allegiant Stadium, but how many tickets have been sold?

The lines to get into the venue are forming and one of the biggest questions surrounding the NRL’s foray into the United States is: will they attract enough fans to avoid rows of empty seats appearing on TV?

So far the answer appears to be yes, with estimates putting the number of tickets sold at 40,000 – and footy bosses will hope that number increases thanks to walk-up fans securing more seats on match day.

Allegiant Stadium – nicknamed the ‘Death Star’ – can accommodate 65,000 people in the setup used for NRL matches.
