Prince William’s impact on charities is “very personal” and he often works behind the scenes with homeless people, the CEO of one of the groups he works with has revealed.

Mick Clarke, chief executive of the homeless charity The Passage, said the Prince of Wales, 41, has “the ability to listen, talk and put people at ease.”

Speak with TatlerIn a piece exploring William’s future as king, Mr Clarke explained that the royal family has quietly volunteered for the charity on several occasions.

Other experts also discussed William’s commentary on the conflict in the Middle East and how, like his father, he will continue to “hold the space to speak out sparingly on carefully chosen issues.”

The future king, 41, a patron of more than 30 charities, first visited the Passage as a child with his mother Princess Diana – something he says he was ‘deeply moved’ by.

Speaking to Tatler, Mr Clarke said: ‘William’s impact is deeply personal’ […]

‘Two weeks before Christmas, the Prince came to our Resource Center in Victoria for a Christmas lunch for 150 people.

‘He would stay for an hour, helping with serving, washing dishes and talking to people. He ended up staying for two and a quarter minutes, during which time he went from table to table talking to everyone.”

‘William has the ability to listen, talk and put people at ease. During the lockdown of November 2020, he came to help three times.

‘It gave the team a boost that he took the time; it was his way of saying, “I support you; You’re doing a great job.’

In December, William praised the work of The Passage and said he was “deeply moved” when he visited the charity with Princess Diana as a child.

He shared a video explaining the charity’s ‘amazing work’, including ‘life-changing’ work to prevent homelessness and human trafficking, which was posted on X on ICAP’s 31st charity day.

“Having a place to call home is so precious. Every day, the Passage works tirelessly to achieve a society where homelessness does not exist and where everyone has a place to call home,” he said.

Tatler’s article, written by former BBC Royal Correspondent, Wesley Kerr OBE, also looks at how William can continue as king.

Speaking to Mr Kerr, The Times Royal Correspondent Valentine Lowe said William is ‘shaping’ the future of the company in a more relaxed way than his father.

‘He [The Prince of Wales] seeks its own way to be recognizable, to benefit everyone, in the context of a centuries-old institution undergoing significant challenges and turmoil, as head of a nation divided by difficult times, conflicts abroad and social and political uncertainty,” he said.

Charles is sympathetic to William’s approach and his desire to make time with his young family sacred. They are confidantes, as evidenced by the night of Queen Elizabeth’s death; they were both at Birkhall with Camilla, discussing funeral arrangements, while the rest of the grieving family were nearby at Balmoral, hosted by the Princess Royal.

‘Charles has spent almost sixty years in public life and is the most important statesman of our time, having been in the spotlight even longer than Joe Biden.

Last summer, William, 41, appeared relaxed as he linked up with salesman Dave Martin, 61, who has been a friend of the royal family since they hit the streets in 2021 with Big Issue sales.

But will the so-called ‘call me William’ approach be successful?

The prince has certainly led the way in ditching the stiff upper lip and taking a more practical approach to assignments.

In October he hugged his way through a room of Windrush veterans as he celebrated the Caribbean who helped rebuild post-war Britain – but drew the line at kissing.

The Prince of Wales was mobbed by well-wishers at the Grange Pavilion community center in Cardiff, but cheekily told them: ‘I draw the line at kissing!’

Later, as guests posed for a group photo, William laughed with Kate as they moved to a back row and led the Windrush veterans to the front, but the room erupted when the prince joked: “Who’s pinching my bum?”

Mr Low believes the royal family has put a lot of thought into its ‘call me William’ approach to the throne, wondering whether it would work if ‘the whole point of the royal family is mystical and different’ but he is keen to modernize the throne. monarchy.

It was a difficult start to the year for the future king. His father, King Charles, is currently undergoing treatment for cancer, while his wife, Princess of Wales, is recovering from abdominal surgery.

Kate Middleton has been working from home on an early years project that has been hailed as her ‘life’s work’ as she recovers from abdominal surgery.

The Princess of Wales, 42, launched the Royal Foundation Center for Early Childhood (RFCEC) Shaping Us project in January last year, aiming to highlight the importance of early childhood development in children.

Kensington Palace has confirmed that Kate will continue to work on the project while she recovers at home; the Center has funded a trial of a baby observation tool for health visitors to monitor young people’s social and emotional development.

The princess personally suggested the instrument could be used in Britain after seeing a similar system during a royal visit to Denmark, reports suggest. This means that she is very involved in the process and its results, which will be published today.

The news that she is being briefed suggests that she could be preparing to return to work as planned; Kensington Palace has insisted since January that she is ‘unlikely to return to public duties until after Easter’.

Pro-Palestinian protesters shouted at politicians during Question Time as they called for a ceasefire in Gaza and accused the country’s leaders of “genocide.”

Member for Bean, David Smith, was interrupted in the House on Monday afternoon when he was drowned out by angry chants.

A group in the public gallery of the House of Representatives shouted: “Shame, shame” as the Canberra politician questioned Attorney-General Mark Dreyfus about Labour’s new Administrative Review Tribunal, which will review government decisions.

The calls from protesters continued as Mr. Dreyfus tried to respond.

‘You support genocide!’ protesters shouted.

Other protesters pointed to Prime Minister Anthony Albanese’s response to the conflict.

‘Albanian, your hands are red. 15,000 children dead!’ the crowd chanted.

David Smith (pictured), Member for Bean, was interrupted by pro-Palestinian protesters during Question Time

Others called for a “ceasefire now.”

It is estimated that more than 30,000 Palestinians have been killed since Israel declared war on the terrorist group Hamas.

The conflict erupted on October 7 when militants crossed the Gaza Strip into southern Israel, killing more than 1,100 people and taking about 240 hostage.

Some Palestinian supporters have criticized the Australian government for failing to denounce Israel.

Labour’s Mr Dreyfus responded to Mr Smith’s questions about the new Administrative Review Tribunal by highlighting the practice of ‘stacking’ within the Liberal Party.

“As many as 85 former Liberal MPs, failed Liberal candidates, former Liberal staffers and other close associates of the Liberal Party were stacked for good without any merit-based selection process,” he told the audience.

‘They did it again and again, including on the eve of the last election.

‘Decisions of the [Administrative Review Tribunal] have life-changing consequences for thousands of Australians; from people with disabilities seeking support through the NDIS to vulnerable families trying to access the right social benefits.”

As he continued, protesters were removed from the public gallery by security.

At the end of his answer, Mr. Dreyfus joked, “I hope you heard the last part of my answer.”

Greens senator Max Chandler-Mather later applauded the protesters online.

“Solidarity with the protesters for Palestine in Question Time who are peacefully fighting today for a ceasefire and an end to the genocide in Gaza,” he said.

“Their voices reflect the wishes of millions of people across Australia. History will remember you well.”

JURGEN KLOPP debunked a journalist’s ‘stupid question’ before storming out of an interview following Liverpool’s departure to Manchester United in the FA Cup.

The Reds boss was left seething after Amad Diallo’s 121st A minute strike ended his hopes of a Quadruple in his final season at Anfield.

1

Jurgen Klopp walked out of an interview after answering a reporter’s ‘stupid question’

Liverpool led 3-2 with just eight minutes of extra time remaining before Marcus Rashford leveled things for United.

Diallo then hit the Merseysiders on the counter in the bitter end.

And United have been rewarded for their smash-and-grab with a semi-final draw against Championship side Coventry next month.

Klopp was clearly far from satisfied at the final whistle when he gave his post-match interview.

But he was left furious after a question from a Scandinavian reporter in the tunnel.

The journalist lit the fuse by asking: “Normally intensity is the name of your game, so how come it became so difficult in extra time?”

This series of questions infuriated Klopp, who burst out: ‘A bit of a stupid question, I must say, because you see us so often.

“If you’ve never seen us, you might ask, ‘How can they have more resources?’ We’ve been playing so many games lately.

“I don’t know exactly how many games United have played. I’m very disappointed with that question, but you clearly thought it was a good question.”

However, the reporter was undeterred and continued: “So, too many games?”

But for Klopp it was the final straw.

He shouted: “Oh come on. You’re clearly not in great shape and I have no nerves for you.

Amazingly, Klopp then walked out of the interview, leaving the reporter stunned.

Fans responded online saying: “Completely reasonable questions.”

Another stated: “Great to report this.”

One added: “Sensational viewing.”

TikTok is one of the most popular and largest social media apps in the world – with major brand recognition and loyal users.

It can also be one of the most difficult to sell.

That’s the conundrum facing TikTok as lawmakers in Washington advance a bill that would force the app’s Chinese parent company, ByteDance, to sell the app or it could be banned in the United States. The bill was passed by the House of Representatives on Wednesday, but could face an uphill climb in the Senate.

Rumors are already swirling on Wall Street about who might be interested in buying TikTok. The rumblings grew louder Thursday after Steven Mnuchin, a former Treasury secretary, told CNBC that he was “trying to put together a group to buy TikTok because they should be owned by American companies.” Mr. Mnuchin said he had spoken to a “combination of American investors” about such a deal.

But any potential buyer may face several roadblocks. The Chinese government could block the sale. Under the House-passed bill, the US president would have to confirm that a deal would cut ByteDance’s app.

And then there’s the price tag – almost certainly a big price tag. Research firm CB Insights recently estimated that ByteDance was worth $225 billion, although it is less clear how much the US version of TikTok would cost on its own.

The price would limit the pool of potential buyers to a coalition of private equity firms; a corporate giant, such as Microsoft; or a combination of the two. But it’s unclear whether antitrust regulators would allow a big company like Microsoft (or Alphabet, owner of YouTube) to buy the app.

A spokesperson for the Federal Trade Commission declined to comment. The Justice Department declined to comment.

The last time TikTok was up for sale, ByteDance talked to Microsoft about a potential deal before choosing Oracle, the cloud computing company. Oracle brought in Walmart as a partner, but just as the two were about to buy a stake in the app, the deal collapsed under geopolitical pressure.

Oracle did not respond to a request for comment. Microsoft, which also considered buying the app in 2020, declined to comment.

TikTok has said the legislation is unnecessary because the app does not pose a risk to Americans’ data and does not tailor its feed to the whims of the Chinese government. It has proposed a plan that would see U.S. user data stored on domestic servers controlled by Oracle.

Beijing could apply additional government surveillance. This week, Wang Wenbin, a spokesperson for the Chinese Foreign Ministry, condemned US lawmakers’ attempts to force a sale or ban TikTokalthough he stopped short of saying the country would outright prevent such a move.

Analysts are skeptical that the Chinese government would allow such a move.

“You’re telling me China is going to sell this great company to an American company so they can profit from the profitability and give up all the geopolitical benefits of a ban?” said Rich Greenfield, an analyst at LightShed Partners.

It is unclear how advanced Mr. Mnuchin’s talks with investors are and whether participants have taken the formal steps necessary to pursue a potential transaction, such as hiring a financial advisor or formally approaching ByteDance. A spokesman for Mr. Mnuchin declined to comment.

Mr. Mnuchin has a long history with TikTok. From February 2017 to January 2021, as Secretary of the Treasury, he headed the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States, a group of federal agencies that investigates international involvement in American companies. CFIUS backed the government’s push to get ByteDance to sell its TikTok business in 2020.

Mr. Mnuchin, a former Goldman Sachs partner, now runs a private equity firm, Liberty Strategic Capital. It is one of many private equity firms facing a decline in deal volume amid increasing regulatory pressure and rising interest rates. The company recently provided $450 million in financing to buy the beleaguered New York Community Bank.

For TikTok’s U.S. investors, including Susquehanna Investment Group and General Atlantic, a sale would almost certainly be preferable to a ban. These investors could choose to transfer their stake in ByteDance to a new owner. General Atlantic declined to comment and a representative for Susquehanna did not respond to a request for comment.

“I have to think that most retail investors in TikTok, including some Americans, would want to see a divestiture rather than a ban, because a ban is going to destroy a lot of value, given the size and value of TikTok’s US user base,” says Peter Harrell, a former national security official in the Biden administration.

Footy fans were enthralled by Carlton and Richmond’s blockbuster Round One clash on Thursday night but couldn’t help but notice a shocking event at the MCG.

The Blues emerged victors in a nail-biting match, with Michael Voss’ side recording a five-point victory to get their season off to a flying start.

More than 83,000 fans descended on the MCG, with the ground staff doing a great job ensuring the venue was ready after Taylor Swift’s triple show at the end of last month.

But fans on social media on Thursday discovered what seemed like an obvious problem with the boundary line: It was not completely curved.

“Why is the line now straight at the mcg?” commented one fan on Reddit.

Another fan replied: “Lazy painting.”

Footy fans spotted what appeared to be an issue with the boundary at the MCG

A third fan said: ‘This actually bothers me.’

But one eagle-eyed fan offered an explanation for the straight line.

“Look at the fence, it’s parallel to it,” they said. ‘I’m sure there should be a minimum distance between the line and the fence so that players can move up on time.’

Elsewhere, Richmond defender Josh Gibcus is believed to have become the third AFL player in the first five games of 2024 to suffer a knee injury during the season.

Gibcus, who missed the entire 2023 season due to hamstring problems, fell awkwardly late in the second quarter of the Tigers’ game against Carlton at the MCG on Thursday evening.

The 20-year-old’s right leg twisted after a marking match and he immediately fell to the ground.

A distraught Gibcus left the field on a medical cart and was taken to Richmond’s chambers.

Gibcus’ injury follows two players – Keidean Coleman (Brisbane Lions) and Sam Docherty (Carlton) – tearing their anterior cruciate ligament in last Friday night’s opening match at the Gabba.

The Tigers were already down one player on Thursday evening after veteran midfielder Dion Prestia suffered a hamstring injury during the first semester.

Prestia, who has a history of soft tissue injuries, was withdrawn from the match at quarter-time and replaced by Rhyan Mansell.

We love counting steps. Maybe it’s because we love goals, or because we’re constantly reminded of how far we’ve gone and still have to go to achieve a daily goal. Or it could be that too study after study says that walking is one of the most viable ways to extend lifespan.

That’s why we ask ourselves: how many steps are enough? Are more steps better? An article recently published in the British Journal of Sports Medicine found that just 2,200 steps can help fight diseases made worse by a sedentary lifestyle such as heart disease and diabetes, although it was more effective to walk up to 9,000 steps.

But focusing purely on the number of steps misses the whole picture. Researchers now say that after a certain point what steps you take is just as important as the amount.

So whether you’re hitting the bare minimum goal of 2,200 steps or consistently logging 10,000, here are a few tactics to get more out of your daily walk.

The first step for anyone who no longer wants to walk is to just start, says Amanda Paluch, a professor of kinesiology at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. Walk around the block or make laps around your house. See if you can walk 2,000 steps, about a mile, and go from there.

If you’re older or have a chronic condition that makes it harder to get up and move, walking at any speed is helpful for your health, she said.

It’s often helpful to count your steps at first, but once you consistently reach about 6,000 or 8,000 steps per day, you can focus more on pacing.

Walking causes your muscles to contract, which pushes blood from your legs to your heart, making your heart stronger and more efficient over time. But the benefits diminish once your heart gets a certain “stimulus,” says Keith Baar, professor of molecular exercise physiology at the University of California, Davis, by which he means the same number of steps at the same pace every day.

“To have more effect,” he said, “you need a bigger incentive.”

Push yourself by walking faster and breathing harder, he said. Building intensity when walking isn’t about burning more calories, it’s about strengthening your cardiovascular system. a 2022 article in the journal Nature showed that walking faster led to less sleep apnea, acid reflux, diabetes and hypertension.

Start by walking 30 seconds or one minute faster. Increase the frequency and length of those bursts if you can.

Whether walking outside in itself improves your physical health is still up for debate. according to a 2023 meta-analysis. Dr. However, Baar argues that we use more energy when walking on soft surfaces such as sand, gravel or dirt because our tendons help us walk more efficiently on hard surfaces.

Regardless of whether it’s more difficult, he encourages people to walk on trails, as spending time in nature has proven mental health benefitsand because trails tend to have more hills than nearby streets.

After you’ve accelerated, consider heading upstairs. Finding hills to walk up is a good way to improve your fitness in a world where time is limited, said Dr. Sadiya Khan, a cardiologist at Northwestern Medicine and a volunteer for the American Heart Association.

Most studies, including the recent British one, show diminishing returns on steps over a distance of about five miles. So instead of walking 12,000 or 15,000 steps to improve your workout, walk uphill to keep your heart rate up. You can also walk backwards uphill to make it even harder and target different muscles. The goal is to incorporate vigorous activity into your walking rather than staying at a moderate pace.

Dr. Paluch suggests the singing test: go so fast that you can say short sentences, but can’t sing a song.

“If you’re comfortable talking while you’re doing the activities,” said Dr. Khan, “it’s probably a bit too relaxing to count as a vigorous activity.”

Consider adding weight to your backpack to increase the intensity of your hike even more. Rucking, as it’s called, aids in strength training while increasing your heart rate, said Dr. Khan.

But Dr. Paluch warned anyone interested in rucking to ease into it. Weight can cause you to change the way you walk or carry yourself, potentially leading to injury.

People ask Dr. Kahn often asks whether it is better to walk or run on a course. Although the distance is technically the same, she said your long-term health will benefit more from running.

Just like when you started running faster, start running for 30 seconds or even a minute and then slowly increase those intervals. And whether or not you decide to run, said Dr. Khan: The best daily steps are the ones you take while working just a little harder.

The pizza delivery boy entered the Midweek Lifestyle draw, with tickets starting from 50p, and had to answer one question to qualify for the competition.

And despite the eye-watering amount coming in, the humble Papa Johns employee has not left his job.

The 28-year-old plans to use the money to buy a house with his wife Alina and treat their family to a luxury holiday.

He said, ‘I’m going to think about it.

“But we would love to buy a new house and go on holiday.”

Marius has worked for the popular pizza chain since coming to Britain from Romania five years ago.

The average salary of a Papa Johns delivery driver is around £12 per hour, which means a weekly income of £480 based on a 40 hour working week.

This amounts to a salary of € 24,960 per year.

Rishi Sunak boldly claimed he was better at loading the dishwasher than his wife this week.

The Prime Minister even admitted that he tends to repack the dishwasher after his ‘enthusiastic’ wife, Akshata Murty, does so.

But how should you actually load your dishwasher? Is there even a ‘best technique’ for it, or is it just a matter of opinion?

According to experts, the answer is yes. When loading the dishwasher, you should consider the ideal gap between the plates and the correct way to arrange the spoons.

And of course, an age-old question needs to be answered: should you pre-rinse dirty dishes?

For good results, leave a space of approximately 2 cm between the dishes in the dishwasher

Do not pre-wash your dishes in the sink before putting them in the dishwasher as this is a waste of time and water

Product training manager at appliance manufacturer Miele Sophie Lane explained The times that there is an ‘art’ in loading and unloading the dishwasher.

A well-loaded dishwasher will have items loaded neatly for maximum cleaning performance, but items should not touch each other and it is best to leave a gap of about 2cm (about 3/4″) between your dishes.

This is because you need to place the dirty dishes in a corner so that it catches a jet of water, but without preventing it from reaching your other dirty items. Smaller items are at greater risk of being completely overlooked.

To ensure that your cutlery looks sparkling, it is very important that you do not clump all the items together. For example, if you nest your spoons together, only the front of the top spoon and the back of the back spoon will be completely cleaned.

And if you use a basket – which some experts question whether it is wise to use – if you put similar items in the same places, there is a risk that they will not be washed properly.

She said she and many other dishwasher experts stack their cutlery in a tray instead of a basket for better cleaning.

A cutlery tray, which normally sits at the top of the dishwasher, also means you don’t have to worry about the dilemma of whether to place your knives and forks up, to get them as clean as possible, or down, to get the most clean. the risk of stabbing yourself if you fall on the open tray.

Do not stack your cutlery too close together in the basket, otherwise it will not be washed properly

And controversially, Ms Lane says pre-rinsing dishes is a waste of time and water. “The dishwasher is there to do that,” she told The Times.

Another general piece of advice is that if your dishwasher looks like it is neatly loaded, it probably is and you are probably getting a good clean.

It also ensures that the rotating dishwasher arm spins quickly so that nothing blocks it when you turn it on.

In 2015, Dr Raul Pérez-Mohedano, who led a University of Birmingham study into the best way to load the dishwasher, concluded that the most efficient way to pack the dishwasher is to circle the cutlery basket (although this is now falling out of the dishwasher). fashion).

Experts made their findings by studying countless cycles, but warned that this could prove difficult due to the way baskets are currently designed.

Dr. Pérez-Mohedano, who led work in the chemical engineering department using a technique known as Positron Emission Particle Tracking, also suggested packaging dishes based on the type of stain they contain.

A 2015 University of Birmingham study found the best way to load the dishwasher at that time

He said carbohydrate-based stains such as potato and tomato require the full force of the water jets to get clean, while protein-based foods such as dried egg yolk require more contact with the detergent chemical.

In the study, engineers used radioactive isotopes to track the speed and direction in which the water jets travel when the device is in use.

They discovered that even though the entire inside of the dishwater gets wet during a cycle, it doesn’t necessarily clean everything the same.

This explains why in some cases a particularly stubborn piece of burnt food can be washed off during a wash cycle, while other lighter stains can be baked in.

Kylie Jenner argues for the fifth whether her new ‘clean girl’ style is a result of her romance with Timothée Chalamet.

“I don’t know how I feel about that,” Jenner, 26, said The New York Times in a profile published on Thursday, March 7. “I just don’t want to talk about personal things.”

Jenner has partially credited motherhood with causing the changes. (She shares daughter Stormi, 6, and son Aire, 2, with ex Travis Scott.)

“It takes a while after having a baby to feel like myself again,” she said Thursday. “Then you get your body back and you’re like, ‘Wait, the trends have changed.'”

Jenner has been dating Chalamet since April 2023, four months before they made their public debut Beyonce‘s birthday concert in Los Angeles.
