  • Master Sergeant G is part of the secret Unit 669 that has saved hundreds

An Israeli special forces hero has told of his perilous missions in Gaza to rescue comrades under fire from Hamas.

Master Sergeant G is part of the secret Unit 669, which has rescued hundreds of soldiers on more than 500 ground and air missions since October 7.

The elite troops are trained to SAS standards, but only use their skills to evacuate the wounded in the most dangerous places imaginable. They dodge rocket fire to land in Gaza, meters away from terrorists in helicopters, and aim to get back to the plane with the victim within 60 seconds.

In other missions, they speed across the border in armed vehicles and drive into enemy fire to rescue the wounded by land.

The Mail was given exclusive access to the unit’s base at Tel Nof Air Base near Rehovot, central Israel, where the 29-year-old who we can only identify as MS G talked about his incredible missions.

“Our job is to rescue Israeli soldiers and civilians anytime, anywhere, by air, sea or land,” he said. “It’s about rescuing Israelis where civilian rescue forces can’t reach, so they bring in Israel’s best and most elite rescue team.

‘The unit does this every day, 24/7, all year round.

‘Our motto is: ‘Call on me in times of need, I will be there for you and save you.’

The troops are on standby 24 hours a day. They must be on their way to Gaza within 15 minutes of a call.

Although they are paramedics, they are trained in Israel’s fierce martial art, Krav Maga, and are among the deadliest soldiers in the world. In Gaza, Unit 669 must attack the approaching fire and fight Hamas.

“Every day we come in and out of Gaza,” said MS G. “It is very, very difficult and challenging to land in urban areas where rockets are fired during flight and landing.

‘We challenge the air crews as much as possible because we want to get as close to the victim as possible.

“We’ll meet our teams on the ground, we’ll land and we’ll be able to get multiple victims out, sometimes in less than a minute. Sometimes shots are fired a few meters away from us. You’re not sure if they’re our soldiers or the terrorists.’

Every year thousands sign up to join Unit 669, but only 50 pass the grueling fitness tests. They then train for 18 months, but only half finish.

MS G completed his mandatory military service with Unit 669 in 2018 and was a medical student about to get married when war broke out.

In the past three weeks he has lost three younger comrades from the unit. MS G said the survivors “cry together and then come back to base and are on call again. There will come a day at the end of the war when we can say goodbye in a proper way.’

“So many of our guests have never been to that part of the world, so it’s pretty special to be able to come back there and share with them why we love it so much.”

Gareth Gates broke down in tears as he successfully completed the Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins training during Sunday’s show.

The singer, 39, beat fellow recruits Matt Hancock, 45, and Danielle Lloyd, 39, after the other 16 celebrities failed to make the final.

Lead Instructor Billy Billingham MBE QCB and his team of Directing Staff (DS), Foxy (Jason Fox), Rudy Reyes and Chris Oliver decided that Gareth was the only celebrity who had the mental and physical strength and resilience to pass the course.

After his name was announced, Gareth became shocked and said: ‘Thank you, staff. Wow. Thank you.’

Speak with The mirror After the win, which was filmed in October 2022, Gareth revealed that the “excruciating torture” of the show led him to undergo five weeks of therapy.

Telling the publication, “I had to have quite a bit of therapy afterward and the show is great for that. When you come out you get checked and I had about five weeks of counseling and therapy because it really affected me a lot.”

He also provided insight into the most difficult part of the trial, describing the final interrogation as ‘unbearable torture’.

Saying, “After the entire nine or ten days we were there and the lack of sleep, testing me physically, emotionally and mentally, the interrogation was the only thing that sent me over the edge.

Gareth later described the victory and glory as “enlightening” for two decades after losing to Will Young in 2002’s Pop Idol.

‘Finally I thought: I actually won a talent program on TV and didn’t come second this time. A huge burden was lifted from my shoulders. I’ve finally rid myself of being Britain’s biggest loser in 2002.’

During the episode, Gareth reflected on what it meant to pass this very special, shortened version of the SAS selection: ‘It was a really crazy experience.

“I think winning or passing was great, but being the only one really meant a lot to me. Realizing that this is real for this DS was a real eye-opener.

‘We’re just making a TV show here, but this is what they had to do in real life. I just had a lot of respect for them, that they really had to go through this and protect our country at the same time.”

When asked what made him stronger than everyone else, he replied: ‘At the end of the day, I think I was also mentally strong. You can train as hard as you can for the physical element of it. But I think it’s the mental resilience that really gets people to the end.

On what surprised him about the series, he said, “It shocked me how completely immersive the series is. I expected them to shout ‘cut’, and I thought there would be some peace, a little time to catch my breath.

‘But from the moment you arrive to the moment you leave, the DS treats you as if it were a real selection process. And it’s tough, they burden you in every possible way. Physically, mentally, emotionally, and they really push you to your limits.

‘I think that’s what they were aiming for: those who made it to the end proved that as people they are stronger on the inside than on the outside.

Speaking about where the mental resilience came from, he added: “I think I have become mentally strong and able to cope with the mental load, the difficulties I went through as a child and with my speech.

“Being at school was hard. I was severely bullied. And I think this helped me cope with the difficult circumstances I found myself in during the course. It was tough and my speech was at its worst there.

‘I’m not very good at confrontation or being put on the spot, but somehow I had to dig deep and I managed to take advantage of that. And I think that’s what got me through.

‘I am also very competitive, but especially competitive against myself. I always try to become better and stronger. I train hard in the gym, but I am also very driven in life. I think it all comes from the urge to get myself out of the traumatic situations I faced as a child with bullies.”

When asked if the experience has changed him, Gareth said: “Yes, hugely. It has definitely made me a much stronger person.

“And the fact that I succeeded and won the whole thing so effectively proved to myself that I am strong and that I am not the same cowering young boy who used to hide in the corner. I have now really become a man and can handle anything.’

Danielle Lloyd showed off her incredible figure in sexy black and white swimwear as she posed for sultry snaps on Thursday.

The model and TV personality, 39, – who will be in the final of Celebrity SAS Who Dares Wins on Sunday – put on a confident show for the shoot.

On one occasion, she flaunted her ample assets in a plunging white swimsuit that showed off her toned physique.

In another, she highlighted her toned abs in a cut-out black number with pretty tie details.

For the stunning shoot, she wore her honey-colored locks in loose waves and opted for a typically glamorous makeup look.

It’s because she will take part in the final broadcast of Celebrity SAS on Sunday evening.

She reached the last five alongside Matt Hancock, Gareth Gates, Perri Shakes-Drayton and Teddy Soares.

It will be the seventh and final episode of the Vietnam reality quasi-military training show, airing on Channel 4.

In the tough finale, called INTERROGATION, the celebrities must undergo the final physical and mental test as they feel weak from the rigors of the show.

The famed recruits have been captured by an elite Hunter Force deep in the Vietnamese jungle.

They have been stripped of their clothing and belongings and placed in custody in preparation for fourteen hours of interrogation techniques – the most grueling challenge yet.

Danielle said of the final task: “That was probably one of the hardest things I’ve ever done. Forget the heights and stuff like that.

‘This was intense. The sounds literally make your head rise. I hadn’t eaten, I was wet, it was cold. It was just so hard to stay awake and stay focused.

‘You are physically exhausted, but also mentally exhausted. There were so many times when I almost quit.’

Danielle has three sons with ex-husband Jamie O’Hara, a footballer, and a son and a daughter with current husband Michael O’Neill, a personal trainer.

She had her last daughter in November 2021.
