A mother of an autistic schoolgirl who was knocked unconscious at a skate park has lashed out at “disgusting” scammers who set up a fundraising campaign on her daughter’s behalf.

Angela Jarvis, 44, from Drumchapel, Glasgow, said she was made ‘sick’ by a fake GoFundMe page that was brought to her attention last week but has since been removed.

The page, which has now been deleted, asked people for donations to raise a total of £1,000 to help 14-year-old Abbie recover from the attack that happened just over a year ago.

Speaking to the Daily record Angela said: ‘Someone was sitting there, saw Abbie’s story and thought it would be a good idea to make money from it.

“On top of everything else Abbie has been through, things like this torture her. She just wants to move on from her past, but she can’t because she is constantly reminded of what happened to her.’

In 2022, Abbie made headlines when shocking images of her bloodied face showed the extent of her injuries.

The then 12-year-old was lured to a park in the city’s Drumchapel, where a 13-year-old attacked her with multiple kicks to the head, leaving her covered in blood, while other teenagers filmed the attack on their phones.

Abbie spent two days in hospital and is now suffering from PTSD after the violent attack and school suspension.

The fake GoFundMe page, written by the scammers pretending to be Abbie, read: “Thank you if you donated. This fundraiser is to help with my education and anxiety after this attack, no this is not for a lot of money, this is for my mental health. Thank you very much.’

A GoFundMe spokesperson told FEMAIL: “GoFundMe does not tolerate misuse of our platform. No money was raised. The fundraiser has been removed and the account has been banned.”

They added: ‘GoFundMe is the only platform of its kind with a donation guarantee – meaning all donations go to the right place or can be refunded.’

Following the attack, Abbie’s mother launched a petition to tackle the disturbing culture of youth violence in Scotland. This petition is currently being considered in Parliament.

Speak with The mirror in 2022 Angela said: ‘We are not sure if she will go back to school, she is very anxious and scared. I wanted to go back to work, but I have to keep her safe.

‘Her whole life has completely changed. Even when she was walking to the shops, she would grab my arm and say, “Mommy, don’t leave my side.” I’m her bodyguard now, so she can feel safe.”

In 2022, a police spokesperson said: ‘A 13-year-old girl has been arrested and charged following the alleged serious assault of a 12-year-old girl on Southdeen Avenue near Southdeen Park, Drumchapel, Glasgow, on Tuesday 4 October. .

‘She has been released on an undertaking to appear at Glasgow Sheriff Court at a later date. A report has been submitted for consideration by the Procurator Fiscal and the Scottish Children’s Reporters Administration.”

The father of schoolgirl Mia Janin – who killed herself after being bullied on social media – claims her school asked the children to ‘delete the messages’.

Young Mia Janin, 14, was found dead at home in Harrow, north London, in March 2021 after being bullied by classmates both online and at the Jewish Free School (JFS), where she was a Year 10 student.

A coroner’s court ruled that she had committed suicide “while still a child and while she was still becoming an adult,” after “experiencing bullying behavior from some male students.”

Her father Mariano, an Argentinian who moved to Britain with his wife Marisa in 2001, now claims the school ‘organized a meeting and asked the children to delete the messages’.

In 2022, it was reported that the school pulled some boys from the Snapchat group aside and told them to delete it; it denied this in a statement at the inquest.

Speak with bBC’s Sunday with Laura Kuenssberg, he said, “I didn’t know anything about this online world. They say she was bullied. We found a screenshot showing that she was willing to be severely bullied, with the names of the children who bullied her.

‘They organized a meeting at school and asked the children to delete the messages.

“My common sense says that if you have a police investigation and you have a potential group, you should report it to the police. “Maybe this group of kids have information on their phones, but that’s what they did.”

Ms Kuenssberg also said the Metropolitan Police lost Mia’s phone ‘for a long time’ but are now arranging for it to be returned to her family.

She added that the school said: ‘The coroner’s report was not a reflection of how things are going at the school today.’

The inquest into Mia’s death, held at Barnet Coroner’s Court, heard she was viciously mocked in a Snapchat group of 60 boys after posting a video on TikTok in which she defiantly told her oppressors to leave her alone.

A child who gave a statement to police, which was read out in court, said sick tormentors had photoshopped girls’ faces into pornographic images.

Mr Janin said Mia, who had ambitions to become a doctor or architect, had struggled to integrate with others at the school and had been happier in lockdown when learning remotely.

He added that after the lockdown, she came home in a low mood and asked her parents if she could be home-schooled for the rest of the year.

The inquest later heard a ballot she had sent to a friend that evening, in which she said: ‘I am currently mentally preparing myself to be bullied tomorrow.’ Her parents found her body in her bedroom the next morning, March 12.

Two handwritten notes were found on her bed, written on pages torn from her diary, which was also found in the bedroom.

One was addressed to her family and the other to one of her best friends.

In the note to her family she wrote: ‘I just wanted to let you know that I love you very much. I was raised well by both of you.

“I learned a lot of things, I love you all very much. But I know this decision is the right one for me.

‘On earth I have never felt connected. I felt a desire to get away for a while. I know this is a shock to you.”

Bosses at JFS allegedly ‘deny’ there is bullying in the corridors, the inquest was told, but the coroner accepted evidence from the agency it said it was not aware of.

Despite this, the hearing was told that Mia and her friends were bullied at school, on the street and on the bus, hit with footballs while boys shouted at her; her tormentors called her friendship group the “suicide squad.”

Months after her death, the school’s security was rated ‘inadequate’ by Ofsted inspectors, who noted that students were reporting ‘sexual bullying, including via social media’. The headteacher, Rachel Fink, left.

She closed the note, “Please let my friends have my stuff. I love you very much.’

He said that “school is not just for the curricula” and that the school must promote “clear values” of respect, adding: “Unfortunately, I am a victim of this failing system.”

When asked if he wanted to see those responsible appear in court, he told the Telegraph: ‘Yes, but this is not about revenge… They must understand for themselves what they have done. I don’t know how they will deal with this in their lifetimes.’

The Jewish Free School says changes have been made since Mia’s death.

Dr. David Moody, the school’s headteacher, said after the verdict: ‘Although I was not in office at the time of Mia’s death, I can only promise that we will continue to do everything we can to embed all the changes that have been made. introduced over the past three years.

“Mia remains a greatly missed member of our school community and our thoughts remain with the family.”

Mr Janin previously spoke of the pain of burying both his daughter and his life partner, months apart, after she died of leukemia at the age of 59.

Mia and Marisa are buried side by side in a Jewish cemetery in Israel; Mr. Janin says he can hardly believe he made the same trip to Tel Aviv twice with the bodies of his loved ones in such a short time.

A ten-year-old girl who took matters into her own hands after a crisp manufacturer discontinued her favorite flavor has been rewarded with a year’s supply.

Grace from Edinburgh wrote to the director of Taylors Snacks after the manufacturer stopped producing the haggis and black pepper flavour.

The company, previously known as Mackies Crisps, had scaled back production so the flavor would only be available in winter.

However, the 10-year-old’s persuasive letter clearly paid off, as the company agreed to keep the flavor on supermarket shelves all year round.

And for the successful campaigner, Perthshire-based Taylors awarded her an extra treat: enough free haggis and black pepper crisps for the coming year, delivered in style in a black cab.

A 10-year-old girl from Edinburgh has been given a year’s supply of crisps of her favorite flavor after campaigning to keep them on supermarket shelves

Mr Taylor said: ‘When Grace’s letter landed on my desk, I was overwhelmed by her enthusiasm and initiative.

‘The Taylors team put their heads together to see how we could celebrate our biggest haggis and black pepper chip fan and can’t wait to show her and her family around our factory here in Errol.

“It wasn’t just Grace who reached out, though. Our customers told us en masse that they were missing their favorite haggis and black pepper snacks.

‘We loved that people took the time to tell us how passionate they were about the flavour. From letters to emails and phone calls, many people contacted us to talk about their love of haggis chips and to ask if they could come back.

‘We’ve been working hard behind the scenes to ensure our customers don’t miss anything and are delighted to announce that haggi chips are back on shelves.’

Grace’s mother Becky, whose surname was withheld, said: ‘It’s fantastic that the team at Taylors took the time and effort to respond and it really made our days.

“It also helps Grace see the power of communicating with creativity and care.

‘Grace was the one who came up with the idea to write to James and to get such a great response, it really validates and strengthens her.

‘These little things can really have a huge impact on a young child’s life.

“We look forward to visiting the factory soon and learning how our favorite snacks are made.”

This is the disturbing moment a predator tries to film a 15-year-old schoolgirl under the partition of a unisex changing cubicle at a water park.

Liam Warlow is seen on CCTV hanging out in the changing room at LC Swansea water park in South Wales, looking down the corridor as he stands in the doorway of a cubicle.

The video then cuts to the 27-year-old running out of the locker room after trying to film the girl with his phone as she undressed.

Swansea Crown Court heard Warlow was in the changing area after drying off and getting dressed when he saw the girl, who was at the water park with her mother. He then straightened his hair in the mirror while “paying special attention” to the girl standing next to him.

After she enters a booth, Warlow walks into the adjacent booth and tries to film her with his phone.

The camera footage shows Warlow looking down the hallway of the changing room

The girl kicked the phone when she saw it fall under the partition and Warlow quickly ran out of the booth.

After the incident, Warlow was seen running out of the leisure center without saying goodbye to family and friends and he was there. Two days later he was arrested at his then partner’s home.

Judge Geraint Walters said it was “absolutely clear” what Warlow was planning to do at the water park.

“After seeing her, you purposefully and with a fair degree of determination lingered in the dressing area – and at one point also looked at her through a mirror – until she entered a cubicle,” the judge said. “You went into the adjacent booth and while you were there you used your phone to film her. She said the phone was clearly recording and she could see herself on it.”

Warlow, from Cwmrhydyceirw, initially told police he had accidentally dropped his phone, which had ‘managed to start recording on its own’. Judge Walters rejected his claim, saying: ‘I would have to be very naive to accept that proposition, as would a jury, if you had tried that on them.’

After he was arrested, Warlow told police he could not remember the code to access the “private area” of his phone. The judge added that he would have to be “extremely naive” to also accept this claim.

Warlow gave police a code to access another part of his phone, which contained a video he had taken of himself masturbating in what appeared to be a public toilet stall on another occasion.

Warlow’s lawyer told the court: ‘It is clear he is deeply ashamed of what has happened. Mr Warlow states that the impact on the victim must have been devastating.”

Warlow was spared an immediate prison sentence after a judge at Swansea Crown Court suspended his six-month term for two years. The suspect pleaded guilty to observing a private act for sexual gratification. He has previous convictions for burglary and cannabis possession from 2013.

Sentencing on December 20, 2023, Judge Walters said: ‘You saw her and at that moment decided to see if you had the opportunity to film her as she undoubtedly undressed.

“Your behavior that day ruined you for quite some time. And it will be.

‘You will end up on the sex offenders register. It looks like you’ve lost your partner. No doubt you will come under the scrutiny of social services in any future relationship you have.”

Judge Walters said the sentencing guidelines led him to suspend a six-month prison sentence for two years after recognizing that “most members of the public would probably expect me to send you to prison today.”

The judge added that Warlow would have to deal with his issues surrounding filming in public for sexual arousal, which would require the defendant to complete a 43-day program.

He must also complete 45 days of ‘general rehabilitation’.

Warlow will be on the sex offenders register and subject to a sexual harm prevention order for seven years.

Hannah Waddingham dazzled American viewers with her sparkling dress and even more sparkling personality when the stunning actress appeared on Late Night with Seth Meyers on Monday.

English Rose, 49, who rose to fame playing Rebecca Welton in the Apple TV+ show Ted Lasso, was hoping to attract an audience for her special, Hannah Waddingham: Home for Christmas, also on Apple TV+.

The musical extravaganza, filmed live at the London Coliseum, arrived on the streaming service on November 22 and features guest stars Phil Dunster, Luke Evans, Sam Ryder and Leslie Odom Jr.

Leslie Odom Jr.’s performance was actually a request from Hannah’s nine-year-old daughter Kitty, she revealed to US presenter Seth Meyers, 49.

The Emmy-winning actress and singer joked that she “looked like a competition winner” next to the Broadway star.

This has been a year like no other for Hannah: she used her fluent French to present the Eurovision Song Contest, presented the Earthshot Prize with Prince William, starred in Christmas adverts for both M&S and Baileys, and now presents her own festive special.

Things could reach even greater heights next year, when she stars alongside Tom Cruise in the latest Mission: Impossible movie.

Dressed in a midi dress from Rixo and matching sparkling heels, the 6ft tall beauty, as always, balanced her glamor with her down-to-earth and quintessentially British character.

The London-born actress has finally conquered Hollywood after 30 years in the game.

Despite twenty years on Broadway and the West End, and roles in Game of Thrones, Sex Education and Benidorm, it was Ted Lasso who really put Hannah in her stranglehold on the nation’s hearts.

The award-winning three-series comedy follows an American football coach, played by Jason Sudeikis, who comes to Britain to manage a fictional English football team called AFC Richmond, owned by Hannah’s character.

Hannah admitted on Seth Meyers’ show that she misses the show, which wrapped in May this year, and said of the cast’s appearance on SNL that they “travel in a sickening pack.”

Since Hannah is quickly becoming a household name, it seems even Kate Middleton is a fan.

When she enters the movie business, perhaps an Oscar could be added to her Emmy, which she keeps in her daughter’s bedroom to remind her that “mommy will only be aware if it’s a real, thriving good reason’.

Hannah, who was told at the age of 38 that there was ‘no chance’ of her having children, is now a single mother to nine-year-old Kitty.

She and Prince William witnessed Hannah sing O Holy Night, accompanied by the English National Opera, at this year’s Royal Variety Performance.

The Princess of Wales was seen turning to the person sitting to her left at the Royal Albert Hall and telling them: “Amazing, that was fantastic.”

Hannah has indeed come a long way from the young London girl who was bullied at school because of her height.

Hannah was born in Wandsworth to opera singer Melodie Kelly and grew up around theatre.

However, the star has previously detailed how she was ‘quite shy’ at school and suffered ‘terrible’ bullying.

She shared on the Kelly Clarkson Show that she was bullied by her classmates because she was taller than them

Hannah said: ‘I was bullied quite a bit. I hated it. I was quite shy, we’re called introverts extroverts, that’s what it is.

“They used to tease me about my size when they were much smaller, but… to your face… now look at me!”

A schoolgirl shot dead another student and injured five others at a Russian school today before turning the gun on herself.

Officials said the 14-year-old opened fire with a pump-action shotgun, and reports say the attack was carried out in a classroom at the school.

She killed one student and injured at least five others, officials said, before killing herself at the school in the Russian city of Bryansk, police said Thursday.

Those injured in the attack at Gymnasium Number 5 school were rushed to hospital, with one – a boy – reportedly in serious condition in intensive care.

Regional Governor Alexander Bogomaz called it a “terrible tragedy.” He said the five injured were all children with minor or moderate injuries.

According to initial reports from Russia, the shooter’s name was Alina.

The news channel Mash published a photo of the dead gunman, sprawled on the ground next to a pool of blood and holding a shotgun, dressed all in black.

It said she was also armed with a hunting knife.

The photo appeared to show a long-handled knife tucked into her right boot.

Other images showed blood splattered on the ground among scattered chairs, desks and a shotgun shell.

The alleged shooter was also pictured in what appeared to be a school photo. Although her face was blurred, she was a blonde in a white school shirt.

Russian officials confirmed the attack.

“According to preliminary investigation data, a 14-year-old girl brought a pump-action shotgun to school, which she used to shoot at her classmates,” Russia’s Investigative Committee said in a statement.

“As a result of the incident, two people were killed (one of whom was the shooter), five were injured and have now been taken to a medical facility.”

Investigators were working to determine a motive, the statement said, and it is understood a murder investigation has been opened.

Students were evacuated from the school, with footage reportedly captured outside today showing them clustered outside in the snow.

Regional Governor Alexander Bogomaz said: “Today a terrible tragedy occurred in gym No. 5 in Bryansk.

‘One of the students carried a firearm into the educational institution. Two children were killed, including the girl who fired the gun.

“Five children were injured, two of them were slightly injured, three of them were moderately injured, all were taken to the regional children’s hospital.

‘They receive the necessary help. All operational services are active on the site.

“We are working with law enforcement authorities to investigate the circumstances under which the student was able to obtain and carry a weapon into the school.

“My sincere condolences to the parents of the girl who died at the hands of the gunman. This is an irreparable loss. The families of the dead girl and the injured children will receive all necessary assistance.”

Bryansk borders Ukraine, with the school about 105 kilometers from the border.

Weapons are normally tightly controlled in Russia, but Bryansk is one of several southern regions where cross-border attacks have taken place in the course of the war with Ukraine and where Moscow has encouraged the formation of self-defense units.

Russia has experienced several school shootings in recent years.

In 2018, an 18-year-old student killed 20 people, mostly fellow students, in a mass shooting at a university in Russian-occupied Crimea, which Moscow seized from Ukraine in 2014.

In 2021, a 19-year-old gunman killed nine people in a school in Kazan, Tatarstan. That same year, a teenager murdered six people at a university in the Ural city of Perm.

And last September, a gunman wearing a swastika on his T-shirt killed 15 people, including 11 children, and injured 24 at a school in Izhevsk where he had once been a student, then killed himself, investigators said.

This is a breaking news story. More to follow…

A body language expert has singled out Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk for looking incredibly “awkward” during a meeting with state leaders.

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese shared a photo of himself with the eight state and territory leaders ahead of the National Cabinet meeting on Wednesday.

Although most leaders looked calm, collected and professional, they were experts on body language Dr. Louise Mahler told Daily Mail Australia that Ms Palaszczuk looked like a ‘clumsy schoolgirl’.

“First of all, she stands on one leg and kneels,” she said.

‘This is a position of weakness and defense. Young girls do it, it keeps your thighs together. Her feet are also slightly pigeon-toed.

‘She looks very shy. If she were a 15 year old girl I would say it’s a nice photo, but she isn’t. She is the Prime Minister of the state!’

Body language expert Dr. Louise Mahler pointed out the main giveaways. Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk felt ‘shy’ and ‘awkward’ during a meeting with state and territory leaders and Premier Anthony Albanese (above)

Dr. Mahler called out Ms Palaszczuk (above) for 'standing on her knees', giving her a 'weak' and 'defensive' appearance

Dr. Mahler said Ms Palaszczuk’s slumped posture and closed body language made her appear shy and intimidated, while the other leaders looked open and confident.

What compounded the effect was the position of Ms Palaszczuk’s hands.

“As an extra defense measure, she has long arms, but one hand covers the other,” Dr. Mahler said.

‘Hands are trust. So there are two problems: that position is called the fig leaf, it’s when you cover your genital area. Then she has the hand covering the other hand.

“She should put her hand on her wrist like Andrew Barr.

‘That’s what Obama always does. It takes you out of the Fig Leaf position.

“Her whole body language screams defensive.”

Dr. Mahler added that the prime minister’s clothing and makeup choices amplified her body language signals.

‘It’s about the jacket. Look, it’s too tight!,” she said.

‘It’s not one size too small, it’s two sizes too small.

“Her smile is beautiful, but who wears light blue eyeshadow under their eyebrows these days?”

She advised that the best thing the Prime Minister can do to appear more confident is to work on her attitude.

Ms Mahler advised Ms Palaszczuk to hold her hands like Andrew Barr (left) to avoid the 'Fig Leaf' position, which made her look like a 'clumsy schoolgirl'

“Stand on two legs, like the men, making sure the body is balanced and upright,” she said.

“You can’t stand with your knees on one leg and your hands covering your genitals while wearing a jacket two sizes too small.”

“She looks like she’s in pain and very uncomfortable.”

Dr. Mahler believed that the other leaders were ‘good looking’, with the right attitude and, for the most part, a broad smile.

As for Albanian, Dr. Mahler said, “He is holding the dog very nicely and the dog seems very happy. He’s fine.’

The National Cabinet met this week for the last time this year. The last day of the hearing was scheduled for Thursday.

High on the agenda were discussions around the NDIS, the National Firearms Register and Medicare funding.

The mother of a schoolgirl who suffered horrific burns after being hit by fireworks on a bonfire night has recalled the moment she turned around and saw her daughter had been ‘set on fire’.

Ten-year-old Rosie Mason, from Cwmbran, Wales, had to have a skin graft after fireworks were shot off from a corner during 2017’s Bonfire Night – but said she now sees her marks as ‘armor’.

Speaking on This Morning today, she sat down with her parents to share important safety tips for the upcoming festivities.

“We were at a friend’s house because our eldest son is autistic and she also has autistic children,” her mother Eleanor said as she recalled the incident.

“We followed all the safety precautions… everyone ate hot dogs and started enjoying the evening.

“And then we had a multi-shot fireworks box that shoots up… I think it came from a supermarket. It was lit, all the children returned safely from the display.’

However, one of them ‘didn’t quite shoot straight away’ and ended up going back, hitting Rosie in the neck and setting her coat on fire.

Eleanor – who, together with her daughter, is now an ambassador for the Children’s Burn Trust – emphasized that all safety measures have been taken into account; the fireworks were set off at the back of the garden, there was a bucket of sand and a bucket of water at hand and all the children stood back.

Both parents admitted that the horrific incident felt like ‘slow motion’.

“I think our main focus at the time was all the kids, getting them all in,” dad James revealed.

‘We got all the children in as quickly as possible and then assessed each child to make sure everything was OK – and in that sense it obviously wasn’t.’

Eleanor said it felt like an “out of body experience” to realize her daughter was injured.

“I only remember her coat and her scarf,” she added. “She had an Elsa hat on and it all caught fire.”

While in hospital, Rosie (pictured in 2017) had to undergo a tumultuous five to six week procedure before she could go home just before Christmas.

However, Rosie said she doesn’t remember “much” because she was so young.

“I remember we were all just standing around the house,” she said. “I guess I was just in shock, forgetting it all.”

James said emergency services advised them to put Rosie in a lukewarm bath, where he continued to douse her with water until the parade arrived.

The young girl then had to wait patiently for her wounds to heal and then carefully clean them by means of stinging baths.

She also had to have her head shaved to receive the skin graft.

Now Rosie calls her scars “armor.”

“We just watched some programs and listened to other children who are now adult ambassadors for the Children’s Burn Trust,” Eleanor explained.

“And they’ve always said it’s part of their story, part of their life, that it’s their armor.”

The ten-year-old has also gone to schools to give talks and help spread the message about fire safety.

She and her family have also worked to raise money for the Children’s Burn Trust.

Rosie shared her top safety tips with This Morning viewers, while host Rylan Clark dubbed her the new ‘Alice Beer’.

“The first would be to go to an organized exhibition,” she advised. “If you do decide to stay home, stay indoors and have a responsible, trusted adult send you out.

‘Also keep a bucket of sand and water at hand, and remember the three C’s: cool, shout and cover with cling film.’

The case of missing schoolgirl Charlene Downes has remained a mystery since the moment she disappeared from near her home almost 20 years ago.

Her mother Karen Downes will now commemorate the day by releasing 20 white doves in honor of her daughter, who was just 14 when she went missing near the seaside town of Blackpool.

November 1 marks the 20th anniversary of Charlene’s disappearance, but despite two trials and a lengthy investigation, including controversial claims that Charlene’s remains were chopped into kebab meat, her ultimate whereabouts remain a mystery.

Karen, 58, says she has accepted her daughter is dead but hopes a new investigation can provide the answers she needs.

For the mother of four children, the memory of Charlene is as haunting as it is present. “Not a day goes by that I don’t think of my Charlene,” she said. ‘I never sleep. I can’t go on living. I’m still stuck in that day.

“Since she disappeared, I’ve kept a candle burning in my window, and it’s still burning. I hope and pray for justice.

“The memorial service will last 20 years and we will hold a candlelight vigil outside the church where she went for Sunday school. I’m also going to release white doves, one for each year.

‘I never for a moment believed that she had been dismembered and hidden in kebab meat, but it is a claim that haunts us.

‘There have been so many terrible rumors about what happened to her and as a mother it is difficult to accept. I just want closure, for her and for the rest of the family.”

Private investigator Jen Jarvie, part of a crack team specializing in cold cases, recently announced an investigation into the disappearance of the teenager, who would have turned 34 today.

Karen and her husband Bob, 61, are already pinning their hopes on the new research.

The brave mum said she felt ‘positive’ about one day discovering the truth behind her daughter’s disappearance.

“I’ve met the team and I know they work hard,” she added.

Karen has suffered more losses in recent years as she has lost more members of her family.

She said: ‘I lost my son Robert, in December 2021. He was only 30 and never got over the loss of his sister.

‘He used to climb out of his bedroom to look for her. Her disappearance cost his life.

‘It also killed my mother. She couldn’t deal with it. I hope they are all together in heaven. It’s my only consolation.

‘I now have eight grandchildren who bring me so much joy and yet I can’t help but think how happy I would be if Charlene had her own children and what she would be like. Life is always ‘what if?’

“I have a six-year-old granddaughter who really reminds me of Charlene and it’s bittersweet. She lives on through her, but it’s a reminder of what we’ve lost.”

Karen has issued an impassioned plea to anyone with information on Charlene’s whereabouts, urging them to come forward.

‘During the twentieth anniversary, as always, I would like to appeal to someone who would like to come forward. Someone knows the truth.

“My candle will burn in my window until justice is done. I hope Jen can be the one to put her mind to rest.”

It is believed the teenager was a victim of child sexual exploitation after being groomed by a gang of Asian men.

The prosecution at a 2007 trial claimed Charlene’s body was dismembered and chopped into kebabs in a Blackpool takeaway.

After a planned retrial was halted in 2008, Karen began to lose hope of ever finding the truth and nearly suffered a nervous breakdown.

But Karen insists she will ‘wait a lifetime’ for justice to prevail. “I can’t believe 20 years have passed and I’m still no closer to the truth,” she said.

“In many ways, her disappearance feels like just yesterday. The pain never goes away. In other ways, I feel like I’ve been waiting a lifetime for justice.”

This is the shocking moment when a pedophile drags a suitcase containing a 12-year-old girl into his flat after kidnapping her and telling her she would be his ‘sex slave’.

The footage, taken in Luziania, Brazil, shows 42-year-old Daniel Moraes Bittar struggling to pull the suitcase up two flights of stairs after abducting the girl from outside her school on June 28.

Bittar kidnapped the child with his 22-year-old girlfriend Gesielly Souza Vieira, who put her in their car and held a chloroform-soaked cloth to her face while threatening her with a knife.

Her legs were then handcuffed and she was zipped into a suitcase, which was placed in the trunk as they drove to a wooded area to dump her cell phone.

But Bittar was arrested and later confessed to having “paedophilic tendencies” when the alleged victim’s school friend called the police after witnessing the gruesome kidnapping.

The girl was found in the flat covered in bruises and chemical burns with her feet handcuffed to the bed, according to police.

Investigations conducted after she was rescued also confirmed that she had been sexually assaulted.

Detective Joao Guilherme Medeiros told media: “The victim stated that Bittar had touched her private parts and she was forced to touch his genitals.

“The girl said he threatened her all the time and said she would be his sex slave. He also filmed the abuses against the student and sent it to his girlfriend. The victim told us he mentioned Geisy’s name on the phone.”

When police first confronted Bittar, he denied everything and claimed the girl in his flat was a cousin, but later confessed, saying he had considered ‘chemical castration’.

During a search of Bittar’s flat, electric shock devices, cameras, sex toys and pornographic material were found.

A jerry can of petrol was also found at the scene, leading police to suspect that he intended to burn the girl’s body after he raped her.

Police say the pair spent three days searching the school for a victim prior to the alleged crime.

Medeiros told local media: “We have footage of him putting the suitcase in the EcoSport since Monday, September 26. The planning of the crime is very clear.

“He actually had another girl in mind, a 13-year-old, who has already been interviewed by our team.

‘This potential victim was known to the co-defendant because she had lived near Daniel’s girlfriend. This girl was their target.

“For some reason, on June 28, they changed their mind and went to the school in Luziania and observed children and teenagers at first, then on a nearby street they approached the victim we found in captivity.”

Bittar told officers it was his first crime, but police say there are indications he may have committed other crimes with the help of his girlfriend.

Vieira, meanwhile, claims she was coerced by Bittar, but the police don’t believe her.

Bittar was fired as an IT technician at Banco de Brasilia on June 29 after the matter came to light.

In addition to his work, he also did volunteer work in children’s hospitals and is the father of a girl.

Vieira is now a mother of two children and presented herself as a Christian on social media.

Bittar had posted several social media posts condemning child abuse, including one that read, “Pedophilia is a crime. File a report,” the police said.

Medeiros added: “Pedophiles disguise themselves as good people to approach children. I say they act pragmatically.

“We have come across several such cases. Therefore, parents should be very careful. But even the experienced among us are shocked by what happened.’

The pair are charged with aggravated unlawful deprivation of liberty, sexual abuse of a minor and torture. They risk up to 30 years in prison.
