However, England boss Gareth Southgate will now have to make do without Arsenal star Bukayo Saka.

The 22-year-old arrived at camp with an injury and has now returned to the Gunners for rehabilitation ahead of his club’s upcoming title clash with Manchester City on March 31.

That’s a move that Manchester United and England legend Neville eerily predicted during the latest episode of the Stick to Football podcast, brought to you by Sky betwhich was filmed earlier this week.

He said: “I have a good feeling that Bukayo Saka, Declan Rice or Phil Foden will withdraw from the second match against England this break.”

Neville later added: “The Arsenal players may not withdraw from the games in England because they have had a few extra days of rest from not playing in the FA Cup.

“But there is a part of me that thinks they need to keep the momentum going and keep playing, especially when England have two games against strong opponents in Brazil and Belgium.

“I think Harry Kane might pull out the second game. He could play one game or make a deal.

“We refer to it because [Erling] Haaland and [Kevin] De Bruyne. I mentioned it a few weeks ago. I said there will be a withdrawal in March and straight away the two best players for City are out.”

Although Neville had predicted it would be the Belgium game that one of the Gunners’ big hitters would miss, fans were still impressed by how right he was.

Another wrote: “He’s been seen there 100 times. No one knows title races better than this man.”

While a third added: “He’s never wrong is he.”

Saka is not the only Arsenal player who will not be present in the match against England on Saturday. Gunners defender Gabriel has also withdrawn from the Brazil squad.

Neville was part of Roy Hodgson’s England staff for a number of years and explained why the March international break was always difficult.

He added: “Obviously I coached with Roy Hodgson for four years and when players pulled out knowing they were probably not injured you were furious. But that also happened during our lifetime.

“The clubs think: ‘We’re playing against the players, we’re having a clash and we can’t afford to lose them.’ “We have Champions League football and that’s huge for us. Or we get a title, quarter-finals or semi-finals of the Champions League.” And that’s why there is that push and pull.

“This friendly match in March is a bad one. It’s during a title run and Champions League games.

“As far as I’m concerned, this should be played again somewhere, because you’re really thinking about ‘club’ and not country.

“Country starts in about May, when the season is over and you have a tournament.”

James Valentine was at a friend’s birthday party last December when the first signs that something was seriously wrong with the ABC radio star suddenly appeared.

“My friend Tom has been celebrating his 40th birthday every few years for a while now and it’s a good party,” Valentine remembers.

“But as usual the bar was free and there was no food.”

Help arrived with three takeaway containers of Thai food delivered to the pub’s party venue about 9.30pm and Valentine gobbled down the massaman beef ‘like a dog blowing up Pal’.

What happened next led the 62-year-old to a doctor’s surgery and a diagnosis of esophageal cancer.

James Valentine, who has been diagnosed with oesophageal cancer, was at a friend’s birthday party last December when the first signs appeared that something was seriously wrong with the ABC radio star

A few minutes after eating the takeout, Valentine began choking and gagging. His wife Joanne said: ‘That’s not right.’

As Valentine clung to a pole in the street outside the hotel, Joanne insisted he visit her sister’s endoscopy clinic for a gastroscopy.

After the procedure, a gastroenterologist confirmed that Valentine was not suffering from some kind of “old man’s reflux disease.”

“It’s bad,” the doctor said.

‘You have a 4 cm tumor where your esophagus meets your stomach.’

The ABC Radio Sydney afternoon show host’s life changed in an instant.

Valentine revealed details about his cancer diagnosis on Thursday in a first-person piece written for the national broadcaster’s website.

At the beginning of that article, addressed directly to his listeners, the former saxophonist for Melbourne band Models said, “I’m doing absolutely fine right now.”

In January, Valentine began five weeks of chemotherapy and radiation. He will soon undergo surgery to remove his esophagus.

“I was immediately given chemo and radiation, but only a mild dose intended to shrink the tumor and clean out the body before surgery,” he wrote.

‘I got tired from the radiation, the chemo made me feel like my whole body was laced with liquid aluminum foil, but I was able to go to work, turn on the radio and even do a few gigs with the saxophone.’

The operation to remove Valentine’s cancerous esophagus will be carried out in a few weeks, during which his stomach will be stretched and attached to his throat to replace the digestive organ.

“I’ll probably feel like crap for a long time afterward,” he wrote. ‘It is likely that I will recover, although that may take several months.

“I will never eat massaman beef again and I think we’ll all be happy about that.”

An ABC spokesperson said there had been an outpouring of care and concern for Valentine since Thursday, with listeners offering messages of support.

Valentine presented the ABC’s Sydney afternoon program for 20 years before holding down breakfast for two years until late 2023, when it was announced he would return to his old shift.

There was an indication that Valentine was unwell on his Facebook page in February when a fan posted: ‘Please stop with mondayitis, we’d love to hear from you 5 days a week on (Radio Sydney).’

ABC management had known about Valentine’s diagnosis since December, but the announcer decided not to tell his listeners until this week.

“I thought about telling the ABC Radio Sydney audience earlier but decided I would just come back to the afternoons,” he wrote.

“It’s a cheerful show overall, so let’s enjoy ourselves there for a few months instead of being in the shadow of my illness all the time.”

Valentine said he expected to be off the air for two or three months, he wrote in his piece.

“I’m going to make sure I’m fully recovered and my stomach stays attached to my neck before I try to broadcast again.”

Nine major symptoms of esophageal cancer to look out for

Esophageal cancer grows slowly and is usually discovered at an advanced stage because there may be no symptoms in the early stages. Symptoms of esophageal cancer may include:

  • difficult or painful swallowing
  • new heartburn
  • reflux that doesn’t go away
  • vomit containing blood
  • black or bloody stools
  • unexplained fatigue
  • feeling of choking when swallowing
  • discomfort in the upper abdomen, especially while eating
  • unexplained weight loss.

From a sign telling you to keep left while pointing right, to a typo at a buffet, these signs are more than a little confusing.

Bored Panda collected a collection of funny photos from around the world, showing some of the most unusual signs in public places.

One image shows a tree jokingly instructing users not to use it as a trash can, while another shows a graffiti removal hotline painted over.

And another sign, found on the London Underground, raised eyebrows when it instructed commuters to walk left while pointing the other way.

WHEN Stephen Fellows opened a letter from HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) demanding he pay back £1,100, he assumed it was a scam.

The note stated that he had received too much money when he claimed the child tax credit and that he had to pay it back within 30 days or it would be passed on to collection agencies.

1

Stephen’s £1,100 debt was canceled after we intervened and he received an extra £100

This is despite the fact that it has been almost 20 years since the benefit was claimed, which has now been replaced by Universal Credit.

The 66-year-old retiree stopped claiming child tax credits more than fifteen years ago when the eldest of his four children completed full-time education.

Stephen, from Chester, immediately contacted the tax authorities to check if the letter was genuine – and was stunned when they confirmed it was.

He was sure that he had never paid too much and that he could not unexpectedly raise so much money.

“We have always acted honestly in our dealings with HMRC,” he said.

“I suffer from Parkinson’s disease and this ordeal has sent my anxiety through the roof.”

Stephen contacted The Sun asking for help on how to proceed as he was terrified of debt collectors turning up at his door, despite having no idea how he owed the money.

Government departments, including HMRC, have the right to ask customers for a refund if they have paid too much.

The general time limit for collecting a debt in England and Wales is six years under the Limitation Act, but unfortunately according to HMRC this rule does not apply to tax credits.

However, they need to ensure this is done fairly, and a 30 day notice period to come up with a lump sum hardly seems reasonable.

Hear about the terrifying HMRC scam where fraudsters claim an arrest warrant has been issued

These departments also sometimes make mistakes, so it is always worth asking if any claims for money owed can be double-checked.

After The Sun spoke to HMRC, it emerged that the taxman had indeed made a mistake in Stephen’s case.

Investigations into his claim revealed that he owed nothing at all and that he should never have received the letter asking for the money to be refunded.

HMRC has now canceled Stephen’s debt and offered him £100 compensation for the stress caused by the mistake.

An HMRC spokesperson said: “We have apologized to Mr Fellows and confirmed that he does not need to take any further action as the debt has been written off.

“We also sent him reparations.”

Stephen is relieved that he doesn’t owe any money, but his case is alarming.

If he hadn’t asked The Sun to intervene, he probably would have just paid the money back.

Who knows if the taxman would ever have realized his mistake?

And how many other people have wrongly paid back money they never owed?

Earlier this year, The Sun helped a pensioner battle the DWP after he was asked to pay back £22,000 for a mistake he apparently made on his pension application six years ago.

After we intervened, an investigation revealed that the error was due to a staff error at the DWP and his debt had been written off.

Edy London worked as an eyelash extension expert, but had to temporarily close her doors during the first lockdown at the beginning of this year.

To occupy her time, Edy designed makeup brushes because she was frustrated by the lack of good options on the market.

“Now that I’ve started my career as a make-up artist – I’ve worked with brands like Maybelline and at events like London Fashion Week, and a number of A-list models and actors and actresses – I understand eye shapes and bone structure,” she explained.

‘The idea to grow my beauty offering came to me during the lockdown. As I put my eyelash extensions business on hold, I realized this was the moment where I could be as productive as possible and launch a collection of high-quality at-home makeup brushes and strip lashes,” she explained.

“When I researched the market, from my past experiences, makeup brushes seemed to fall into one of two categories: they were either exorbitantly expensive, or cheap and scratchy.”

‘I have launched a collection of 28 carefully designed brushes with wooden handles and ultra-thin, silky bristles that are vegan and cruelty-free.

‘I have chosen four of my favorite colors for my customers to choose from and eight different sets that have been carefully designed for my customers’ needs, with a careful and precise description of the purpose of the brush and the purpose of the set.

‘The brushes can be purchased in sets or individually. Designed in four different colors – turquoise, lemon, cool gray and pale pink – the matte paint finish provides better grip.

‘Sold in ‘all’ purpose sets, from just face or eye sets, it is possible to mix and match so that each color of brush has its own purpose, or to choose a complete set in one radiant colour.

‘The colors were always part of my branding. I like to provide options, from stylish, cool gray to fun and sporty yellow!

“If you’re sisters and live in the same household, you can just get the exact same brushes in different colors, no one will ever wonder if you borrowed their brush.”

‘And especially, in those crazy pandemic times, as a makeup artist working on a busy runway or a photo shoot, you don’t have to worry about using the same brush on two different people.

‘You never have to guess again, you simply assign one color to one model.

‘Creating a high-quality product for the home was a natural progression for me.

‘My passion and precision have earned me praise in leading publications such as Harper’s Bazaar and Vanity Fair. All of this has cemented my position as one of the UK’s leading beauty experts.

I was skeptical of Eddie Howe before he took over as manager at Newcastle.

I doubted he could succeed outside his comfort zone at Bournemouth.

Eddie Howe’s future at Newcastle is uncertain ahead of the summerCredit: PA

I was worried about him taking over the club that has the richest owners in world football, with all the pressure that entails.

Yet Howe proved me wrong last season by leading Toon to the Champions League and reaching the final of the League Cup in his first full season.

I hope Newcastle’s Saudi owners don’t forget how far Howe was ahead of the game at the time.

And I hope they take into account the extraordinary bad luck he has had this season – from a gambling ban for Sandro Tonali, to a serious injury crisis, to the dodgy late penalty away at Paris Saint-Germain that has done much to send them out Europe were sent. .

But today’s FA Cup quarter-final at Manchester City, a draw that spells further misfortune for Howe, is of huge importance for his future at the club.

If he stays on Tyneside next season, it feels like he might be in for a shock at Etihad.

We don’t know how the Saudis will react if Newcastle’s season is effectively ended by defeat.

We can guess that they will be ruthless. And we can’t imagine they’ll think ‘well, bad luck, we’ve got Man City’, because if you want to reach the top you’re going to have to beat City time and time again.

CASINO SPECIAL – BEST CASINO WELCOME OFFERS

The Saudis are running Newcastle quite calmly and sensibly.

Maybe they’ll excuse Howe from a season of stalled progress.
But the way FFP restrictions have been tightened, with a number of their players linked with a move in January, shows that Newcastle’s bid to reach the top echelons of English and European football is unlikely to go smoothly .

Shocking moment fan pushes Eddie Howe during Newcastle’s draw in Leeds

I also think that the club’s location could be a barrier to attracting foreign talent.

A lot of the foreign guys I played with only really knew about London and Manchester.

The North East is a great part of the world and anyone who knows football can’t help but love St James’ Park.

But many players prefer a move to the capital or to Manchester, where clubs will also pay high wages.

I remember former Newcastle owner Mike Ashley suggesting the club move its training base to London because of this – which didn’t go down well with the fans, who hated him anyway.

But when players make the move to Tyneside, they often love it.

Bruno Guimaraes is a good example. The Brazilian is adored there and he clearly loves the club.

Even during the defeat to Chelsea last Monday you could see his passion. I thought he was the best player on the field.

Howe could guide Newcastle to the FA Cup semi-finals this weekend

That Ashley era now feels like a world away, thanks to the new owners’ money and Howe’s excellent management.

But anyone expecting Newcastle to gain the upper hand quickly is likely to be mistaken.

Newcastle are capable of beating anyone in a one-off match and this season they beat City in the League Cup.

If they can beat Pep Guardiola’s side tonight it would mean a change of mood for Howe and his team, and another day out at Wembley for the supporters in the semi-finals.

For a club that has not won a major trophy for over half a century, progress in the cup is extremely important.

You fear for Howe’s future if they don’t. But then I hope I’m wrong again.

A respected Melbourne snake catcher is fighting for his life after being bitten by a highly venomous tiger snake.

Mark Pelley was doing a routine job removing a snake from a property in Diamond Creek on March 10 when his equipment malfunctioned and the snake bit him on the hand, startled.

His daughter Aishah Pelley said she saw him “lose consciousness very quickly before my eyes.”

“The venom entered directly into his bloodstream through a deep bite and immediately began to cause neurological effects,” Ms Pelley said.

Mr Pelley stopped breathing several times and she feared he was already dead as emergency services rushed to the property, she added.

The single father of four daughters was given two doses of antivenom after the bite and is suffering muscle, nerve damage and heart irregularities while being treated in intensive care.

In another vicious blow, trolls have attacked the family, claiming that in a bid to attract attention, they are making much of the snake attack. Responding to the haters, Ms Pelley shared a video of her father in the hospital bed just before he stopped breathing.

‘I get nasty messages that I do this for attention. Here’s Dad in the hospital, just before he stopped breathing.

‘The poison affected his neurological system and he was unable to open or control his eyes.’

In the video, Mr Pelley warns Australians never to touch snakes.

“I can’t open my eyes and I feel so sick,” he said. This is what it looks like when you catch a tiger snake and it bites.”

“Even someone with as much experience as me can get bitten.”

Tiger snakes are notorious for their powerful venom and aggressive behavior when threatened. They are responsible for the second highest number of snakebites in Australia.

With a venom that attacks the nervous system, muscles and blood clotting, tiger snake bites can prove fatal in just 30 minutes, causing paralysis, breathing problems and organ failure.

While her father fights for his life, Mrs. Pelley has taken on the responsibility of caring for her three sisters and grandmother.

She also runs the family’s snake catching business and cares for more than 100 animals that her father used to care for.

She has started a GoFundMe page to raise money for the family and continue construction of a new reptile center after the old office flooded in January.

“My father is my hero as a single father and the sole breadwinner for our family and our elderly grandmother,” Ms. Pelley said.

‘If you knew my father, he would never ask for help, I ask for your help at this time.

“Once Dad gets out of the hospital, it can be a long time before he can work properly again,” she explained.

Many Aussies donated to the fundraiser, with more than $21,945 raised on Friday morning.

“Mark has helped us twice, removing a tiger snake from near our doorstep and searching a bedroom of our house for a snake,” Sharyn Lanham wrote.

‘I wish Mark a speedy recovery and much strength for his family in this most difficult time.’

Footy fans were enthralled by Carlton and Richmond’s blockbuster Round One clash on Thursday night but couldn’t help but notice a shocking event at the MCG.

The Blues emerged victors in a nail-biting match, with Michael Voss’ side recording a five-point victory to get their season off to a flying start.

More than 83,000 fans descended on the MCG, with the ground staff doing a great job ensuring the venue was ready after Taylor Swift’s triple show at the end of last month.

But fans on social media on Thursday discovered what seemed like an obvious problem with the boundary line: It was not completely curved.

“Why is the line now straight at the mcg?” commented one fan on Reddit.

Another fan replied: “Lazy painting.”

A third fan said: ‘This actually bothers me.’

But one eagle-eyed fan offered an explanation for the straight line.

“Look at the fence, it’s parallel to it,” they said. ‘I’m sure there should be a minimum distance between the line and the fence so that players can move up on time.’

Elsewhere, Richmond defender Josh Gibcus is believed to have become the third AFL player in the first five games of 2024 to suffer a knee injury during the season.

Gibcus, who missed the entire 2023 season due to hamstring problems, fell awkwardly late in the second quarter of the Tigers’ game against Carlton at the MCG on Thursday evening.

The 20-year-old’s right leg twisted after a marking match and he immediately fell to the ground.

A distraught Gibcus left the field on a medical cart and was taken to Richmond’s chambers.

Gibcus’ injury follows two players – Keidean Coleman (Brisbane Lions) and Sam Docherty (Carlton) – tearing their anterior cruciate ligament in last Friday night’s opening match at the Gabba.

The Tigers were already down one player on Thursday evening after veteran midfielder Dion Prestia suffered a hamstring injury during the first semester.

Prestia, who has a history of soft tissue injuries, was withdrawn from the match at quarter-time and replaced by Rhyan Mansell.

We love counting steps. Maybe it’s because we love goals, or because we’re constantly reminded of how far we’ve gone and still have to go to achieve a daily goal. Or it could be that too study after study says that walking is one of the most viable ways to extend lifespan.

That’s why we ask ourselves: how many steps are enough? Are more steps better? An article recently published in the British Journal of Sports Medicine found that just 2,200 steps can help fight diseases made worse by a sedentary lifestyle such as heart disease and diabetes, although it was more effective to walk up to 9,000 steps.

But focusing purely on the number of steps misses the whole picture. Researchers now say that after a certain point what steps you take is just as important as the amount.

So whether you’re hitting the bare minimum goal of 2,200 steps or consistently logging 10,000, here are a few tactics to get more out of your daily walk.

The first step for anyone who no longer wants to walk is to just start, says Amanda Paluch, a professor of kinesiology at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. Walk around the block or make laps around your house. See if you can walk 2,000 steps, about a mile, and go from there.

If you’re older or have a chronic condition that makes it harder to get up and move, walking at any speed is helpful for your health, she said.

It’s often helpful to count your steps at first, but once you consistently reach about 6,000 or 8,000 steps per day, you can focus more on pacing.

Walking causes your muscles to contract, which pushes blood from your legs to your heart, making your heart stronger and more efficient over time. But the benefits diminish once your heart gets a certain “stimulus,” says Keith Baar, professor of molecular exercise physiology at the University of California, Davis, by which he means the same number of steps at the same pace every day.

“To have more effect,” he said, “you need a bigger incentive.”

Push yourself by walking faster and breathing harder, he said. Building intensity when walking isn’t about burning more calories, it’s about strengthening your cardiovascular system. a 2022 article in the journal Nature showed that walking faster led to less sleep apnea, acid reflux, diabetes and hypertension.

Start by walking 30 seconds or one minute faster. Increase the frequency and length of those bursts if you can.

Whether walking outside in itself improves your physical health is still up for debate. according to a 2023 meta-analysis. Dr. However, Baar argues that we use more energy when walking on soft surfaces such as sand, gravel or dirt because our tendons help us walk more efficiently on hard surfaces.

Regardless of whether it’s more difficult, he encourages people to walk on trails, as spending time in nature has proven mental health benefitsand because trails tend to have more hills than nearby streets.

After you’ve accelerated, consider heading upstairs. Finding hills to walk up is a good way to improve your fitness in a world where time is limited, said Dr. Sadiya Khan, a cardiologist at Northwestern Medicine and a volunteer for the American Heart Association.

Most studies, including the recent British one, show diminishing returns on steps over a distance of about five miles. So instead of walking 12,000 or 15,000 steps to improve your workout, walk uphill to keep your heart rate up. You can also walk backwards uphill to make it even harder and target different muscles. The goal is to incorporate vigorous activity into your walking rather than staying at a moderate pace.

Dr. Paluch suggests the singing test: go so fast that you can say short sentences, but can’t sing a song.

“If you’re comfortable talking while you’re doing the activities,” said Dr. Khan, “it’s probably a bit too relaxing to count as a vigorous activity.”

Consider adding weight to your backpack to increase the intensity of your hike even more. Rucking, as it’s called, aids in strength training while increasing your heart rate, said Dr. Khan.

But Dr. Paluch warned anyone interested in rucking to ease into it. Weight can cause you to change the way you walk or carry yourself, potentially leading to injury.

People ask Dr. Kahn often asks whether it is better to walk or run on a course. Although the distance is technically the same, she said your long-term health will benefit more from running.

Just like when you started running faster, start running for 30 seconds or even a minute and then slowly increase those intervals. And whether or not you decide to run, said Dr. Khan: The best daily steps are the ones you take while working just a little harder.
