A PE teacher accused of sexually abusing a male pupil has been sentenced to life on strict bail conditions, with her not allowed to leave her home without her parents.
Tayla Brailey, 30, was arrested last Tuesday for allegedly sexually abusing a 17-year-old boy she taught at Lurnea High School in Sydney’s south-west.
Eight days after her arrest, she was seen in Wollongong on Wednesday looking somber as she visited a cafe in Kieraville with her parents, where they met her sister.
She wore a hoodie with the slogan “Brothers Don’t Let Brothers Fight Alone,” raising awareness for mental health.
The hoodie is merchandise from Talk2MeBro, a local suicide prevention charity, a cause her family has supported on social media for years.
The Wollongong charity was invited to speak to students at Lurnea High School in October 2020. Brailey wrote on Instagram at the time: ‘It was great having you guys today! Thanks again for the amazing presentation!’
Brailey’s bail conditions include that she must live with her mother and father, only leave the house with her parents, a curfew and surrender her passport.

She is also prohibited from using social media, entering Lurnea, contacting her alleged victim or the prosecution’s witnesses, attending educational institutions and being in the presence of a minor unless the child is accompanied by a parent or guardian.
She also has to go to Wollongong police station three times a week.
Brailey, who only married in September, is accused of sexually assaulting a boy three times in July, including at her West Wollongong home and in a car in Lurnea.

Brailey was released on bail a week ago with strict conditions, including a curfew and not being allowed to leave her parents’ home unless accompanied by her mother or father.
Police allege she began talking to the boy after he added her on Snapchat, after which the two began exchanging sexually explicit videos.
According to documents cited in court last week, police allege that a friend who accompanied their alleged victim to her home in mid-July at one point walked in on her performing sexual acts on him.
Police also allege she had sex with the boy in the car after he skipped to school to meet her, then went to the chemist to get the morning-after pill.
Brailey married her partner in September last year, after getting engaged in December 2021
According to the documents, police allege she became “hysterical” and admitted this to officers when they confronted her with the allegations at school last week.
The court heard that she also admitted speaking to two other students via social media.
Brailey was charged with sexual assault, sexual intercourse with a supervised person and aggravated sexual assault. She spent the night in custody at the Amber Laurel Correctional Center before being released on bail last Wednesday.
Her case will be heard at Liverpool Crown Court on October 2.
