Terrorist death toll rises to 6, 2 more dead in Kulgam | India News – Times of India
SRINAGAR: Two more terrorists were arrested killed in Frisal-Chinnigam of South Kashmir Kulgam district on Sunday, bringing the death toll from the gun battle with security forces to six.
No further casualties were reported among security personnel after Lance Naik Pradeep Nain of the army’s Para Commando unit and Sepoy Pravin Janjal of 1 Rashtriya Rifles were killed in separate operations in Modergam and Frisal Chinnigam on Saturday.
DGP RR Swain confirmed the ongoing operation in Frisal Chinnigam. “So far, the bodies of six terrorists have been recovered. There were two operations at two different places. The killing of six terrorists is a milestone,” he said. The identities and affiliations of the slain terrorists will remain unknown until the operation is completed.
According to official figures, a total of 27 terrorists have been killed in J&K till Sunday this year. This includes 11 terrorists — five suspected Pakistanis in Kathua and Doda districts last month, and six in Kulgam — killed in extensive counter-offensives following four attacks in the Jammu region on June 9, 11 and 12. These attacks resulted in the deaths of seven pilgrims, their local bus driver and conductor, and a CRPF constable.
On the security situation in Jammu, DGP Swain said, “There has been an attempt to revive terrorism but they are not succeeding. There is no atmosphere of revival of terrorism or its ecosystem in Jammu.”
However, Jammu remained on the brink when a soldier was injured in a firing near a military camp in Manjakot in Rajouri district on Sunday morning. Sources said camp guards repelled an attack, forcing the terrorists to flee to nearby forests.
