The 40 biggest dating turn-offs for Brits revealed – do you know any?

According to research, the BIGGEST dating turn-offs include excessive phone use during a date, loud chewing, and bad breath.

A survey of 2,000 actively dating adults found that smoking, poor dress code and being late also ranked high on the top 40 list.

While 14 percent would find it annoying if their date had food in their teeth, 70 percent would at least tell them.

Although 64 percent even admitted they wouldn’t date someone who had poor oral hygiene.

Rosemarie Maka, oral care expert at Philips Sonicare, which commissioned the research, said: “We all know how important it is to make a good first impression, but when it comes to dating, the pressure is even higher.

“As the saying goes, the problem with them is you can only make one, and once you mess up, it’s hard to bounce back.

“Dating can be a minefield and not everything is under control, but when it comes to polishing your smile, there are definitely things you can do early on to set yourself up for success and feel your most confident and best.”

Nearly three in ten (29 percent) believe that first impressions have a major impact on the rest of the date, with 54 percent saying that first impressions influence the impression they have of their date to at least a reasonable extent.

The study found that the top foods to avoid when eating out on a date are foods high in garlic, sushi with strong fish, and onions.

Another 92 percent would be turned off if their date got too drunk and started speaking slurred.

Other things you absolutely should not do while dating include talking about your ex too much (52 percent), interrupting conversations (49 percent) and swearing too much (36 percent).

Two-thirds (66 percent) admit they would probably not go on a second date with someone who was a turn-off even once on the first date.

But some of these inconveniences can be overcome. For example, 38 percent admit they would accept it if someone was late, while 31 percent would give someone in unironed clothes the benefit of the doubt.

However, only 10 percent would go on a date again with someone who had bad breath the first time.

More than a quarter (26 percent) think that someone’s appearance is ‘very important’ during a date, especially 18- to 24-year-olds.

As many as 25 percent believe they have been victims of ‘catfishing’: that they went on a date and saw that the person looked completely different from the photos.

And 30 percent have canceled a date early because they behaved in a completely disgusting way, according to the OnePoll.com figures.
