The best and worst service stations in Britain revealed – including one that is so chic that it has a cheese desk and deli

Which one? Has unveiled the best service stations in the country – and those who can better avoid motorists.
The consumer champion asked 4,000 of his members to assess 90 of the British service stations, to assess their experiences in eight categories, including food prices, cleanliness and external space.
Considered as an integral part of every British trip by car, service stations offer a brew, a bite and a toilet stop, but, the research found, standards could vary enormously.
The bad news for British drivers? Which one? It reports that it is still largely a gloomy picture for travelers on long journeys, with facilities on many service stations described as often ‘dirt, dated and insufficient’.
However, there are a few radiant lights, with Gloucester Services on the M5 that receives the highest score of the customer survey of 85 percent, getting five stars in almost all categories.
The luxurious service station has a farm shop and kitchen that sells locally produced products – including gelato, cheese and patisserie – from 130 regional suppliers, as well as 24 fast charging points for electric vehicles and a quiet lake to sit by.
At the less glamorous end of the Spectrum, Moto Bridgwater in Somerset, an hour south of Gloucester Services on the M5, it did the worst, soil on the list – with one visitor to say that Bridgwater’s toilets ‘melts or stale urine’.
