October’s best Prime Day smart home deals

Govee’s line of smart floor lamps is one of my personal favorite lighting fixtures. The slim design allows the lamp to be tucked into a corner of the room and paint the walls in light. Govee’s app controls brightness, colors and schedules. There are more than 30 preset scenes with color and movement to create immersive effects. This lamp works with Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa.

GE’s Cync devices are among the easiest smart devices to set up. Once connected, the plugs maintain that connection for reliable use. At just $8, these smart plugs are a bargain and can make virtually any plug-in device smart. Connect your favorite conventional bulb to the Cync Smart Plug and you can automate when the bulb turns on and off, control it with your voice, and more.

Because air quality is so important to our health, you want to ensure that the air you breathe at home is as clean as possible. The Amazon Smart Air Quality Monitor makes tracking the air quality in your home easy by checking for particulate matter (PM 2.5), volatile organic compounds, carbon monoxide, humidity and temperature. The device notifies you when air quality worsens, but can be paired with Alexa to give you updates through your smart speakers, on your phone, and even turn on your air purifier or HVAC.

Officially this model is the previous generation now that the Google Nest Learning Thermostat (4th generation) is out, but this is still a very good option to consider, especially when it costs almost $80 off. It’s packed with sensors and learning software to help you save energy and stay comfortable at home without lifting a finger.

Smart bulbs are an easy way to build a smart home, and the Amazon Basics Smart Bulbs are a perfect choice at just $27 for a pack of 4. These dimmable, soft white bulbs are rated at 7.5 W, which corresponds to 60W incandescent bulbs, and no additional hardware is required to set them up. Simply connect them to your Wi-Fi and you are ready to remotely control, schedule and control your lights with Alexa.

Philips Hue is one of the most recognizable names in smart lighting, and that’s well deserved. This smart indoor light strip features a soft diffuser over the LEDs to provide an even glow for excellent lighting options. Philips Hue includes Bluetooth in this light strip, so you can set it up with or without it Hue Bridge hub.

This price for a high-quality video doorbell doesn’t seem possible, but for Prime Day it’s exactly what you get. This Blink Video Doorbell lands on our list of best video doorbell cameras as the best budget option, thanks to its ease of use, compact design, and local or cloud storage options.

I’ve had this camera in my shed for a few years now and the night vision combined with the bright spotlights has been great for deterring raccoons and opossums from my property. The HD video resolution keeps everything clear, and because it’s a plug-in model, I never have to worry about replacing batteries or recharging them.

Since its launch, the Roomba J7 Plus has been on our list of the best robot vacuums, thanks to its excellent cleaning power and ability to prevent pet messes. It has fantastic navigation capabilities to help you get your home cleaner faster. Although it doesn’t have a built-in mop, it automatically empties the dust bin and provides up to 60 days of storage in the base.

The compact Echo Dot is a fantastic smart speaker in its own right, with Alexa on board to handle your requests and play your music. Controlling your smart home using just your voice seems magical with the Echo Dot, but it gets even more fun when you add the creepy Jack Skellington shell from The Nightmare Before Christmas.

What is Amazon’s Prime Big Deal Days Sale?

Amazon’s October Prime Day event is officially called Prime Big Deal Days, but the shopping extravaganza essentially functions as a second Amazon Prime Day event ahead of the holidays. If you’ve never shopped a Prime Day sale before, you might be wondering what exactly it entails, so here’s a quick explanation. It’s a two-day Amazon sale that offers exclusive savings to Amazon Prime subscribers with limited-time offers, flash deals, and rock-bottom prices. It’s a rare opportunity to score Black Friday-level prices outside of November, so it’s usually worth shopping.

When is Amazon’s Prime Big Deal Days 2024 event?

Amazon’s Prime Big Deal days in October are October 8 and 9 this year. Generally, the deals end this time at midnight on October 9. Some deals may linger beyond the set times of the sale event, but those sales are not promised.

How do Prime Big Deal Days compare to Prime Day in July?

There are many similarities between the two sales. Many of the same deals will return during the October sale, especially on Amazon’s own devices like Blink and Ring home security devices, Fire TVs and tablets, Echo devices, and more.

The main difference has to do with the timing of the sale. Because Prime Day falls in summer in July, there is more focus on back-to-school and outdoor deals. During Prime Day in October, we’ll see more deals geared toward the upcoming holidays, like kitchenware for a Thanksgiving meal or toys and games for kids for Christmas.
